TALL PEOPLE BEWARE!!!
Look, I've had three Miatas. My first, a '93 that I bought used, got rear-ended by a whisky-drinker in a pickup truck. I rushed out and bought a nearly-identical second one. When it passed 200,000 miles (going strong I might add) I started shopping for a third, which I bought today - now I own _two_ of these things. My last twelve years of car buying expresses how very, very much I like this car better than any rodomontade I might compose. But. I'm 5'11" tall, and this car fits me like a comfortable shoe. What that means if you're 6'1" or taller, or a likely regular passenger is, I'm sorry but you really need to consider cars with a couple of inches more headroom.
I love it!
Purchased the car used with 25,000 miles. It's my daily driver in the Florida sun. I love it! Handles sharply and precisely. Rough roads produce a rough ride. Not a surprise. Zero problems.

Miata Mama's Fun Toy!
I love my little Miata! It's cute, cool and fun to drive! I especially like how it takes turns/curves and at an accelerated speed, too. BUT, I find myself doing ticketable (is that a word??) things just because I can! Call it my mid-life fling, but this is a car I'm happy to have met!
Mazda mx-5 speed
Easy fit in the garage. Actually has trunk space more than my convertible Vette. Top actuation up/down simple to do. Excellent 6 speed, short throw gear box. Plenty of power (172 HP) to pass. Logical panel lay out, easy to read at all speeds. Great brakes. 28 MPG at 75 MPH. I have owned gull wing, 300 SL roadster, MGA, AH and 2 Vettes. The MX-5 is the best of the bunch.
2004 Classic Red Miata
Previously I had a 2000 Miata which was very nice. Got in a wreck so Had to buy this 2004. WOW this car is great!!! Very nice ride. great handling.
fun but tight
car drives very well: steering control is terrific, makes tight turns, brakes on a dime. Fast on highway but very noisey. cabin is very tight and uncomfortable on long drives. outer design is beautiful but front end gets beat up alot by hellen keller parkers in the city. No front bumper to stop nicks and scratches by license plate area. All around fun drive for about 1 hour and then discomfort settles in. Car is a death trap in snow, ice and slush. Car easily gets stranded on snowy days.
john's review
This is a great ride. The dash-board layout is very nice....everything is at your finger tips. great around the corners, especially at 60 mph. A little noisy, however with the top down and the radio up, you won't notice.
Fantastic!
Though the Miata is a small car, it is remarkably comfortable. The manual transmission has a lot more pickup than the automatic, so I recommend the manual.
Excellent Auto
I love this car. Have had it for one year and with no problems of any kind. More fun to drive than you could imagine. Can't drive it with the top down without getting comments from other drivers on how great it looks. But the performance is amazing - it handles curves like a dream - at 120 mph. it feels the same as 60 mph. - the milage is pretty good at around 35 highway and 30 city. If you are considering buying a Miata, by all means don't overlook the Boss stereo system, best system I have ever heard (and I am 60 yrs. old by the way and have heard my share of systems). I give it a big thumbs up.
Lovin' It
Looked at S2000, Z3/4, Audi TT, and many others. Wanted a weekend "toy". This was by far the best value, without sacrificing any of the features I wanted (zip and more zip). Better handling in the curves than the others.
A "real sports car"
This small car was designed to mimic a '60s Lotus Elan. It looks and drives like a sports car should. Mine had automatic transmission, but I would have preferred to shift manually. It has a moderately firm suspension, excellent steering and braking and is a delight to drive. The seats have limited adjustability and a big man would have trouble fitting in. It is very noisy; the top, the engine, the tires and the wind combine to drown out the radio at highway speeds. A sports car is supposed to be noisy and the noise adds to the joy of driving. The top is easy to put up or down and it's really watertight even in a Florida downpour. The radio is a Bose and sounds great at low speed or stopped. Performance excellent and suited to the car. I believe Miatas are the most popular race cars in the world. It is not a cruiser car for long distance driving. At 70 mph it feels like 100 but it surely is fun.

My Miata
This is my second miata. I had a 2001 for a short time. I love the body style and the size of the car. It also handles very well. It's a lot of top down fun for a reasonable price.Gas mileage is good and I believe the repair costs will also be reasonable.I was also treated very well at the dealership. Things that I have not liked about the car include:cramped interior ( I'm 5'10"),I would have liked more acceleration ( maybe the turbo) and the clutch shatters if you don't give it enough gas on take off from a standing start.
Miata--best kept secret
Purchased a 2000 Miata for my wife in June of 2003. I thought the car was a joke until I drove it. Interior is a little small for me but perfect for my wife. The car's handling is outstanding and can't be beat on those curvy, hilly roads. Maybe a little underpowered at the start but once rolling it's got plenty of getup and go. Even with an automatic transmission the economy is great at 26mpg around town and over 30mpg on the open road. Plus the car appears to be well built with perfect alignment of doors, hood, trunk lid and body panels. I'm now a Miata nut who leaves his T-top Camaro in the garage and takes the Miata out to burn up the roads.
First New Car
The 2004 Mazda Miata Mx-5 is my first car. The handeling is great, and while it's a little lacking in acceleration power, the car makes up for it because it's so fun to drive. I learned how to drive stick on it, and I had no problems. The clutch isn't tricky at all. (I had previously driven automatics.) The car turns heads. The exterior is amazing. The interior is a bit tight. The cup holders are in an awkward spot. You can hit them with your elbows. The sound system is great. You can hear everything clearly with the top down.
Awesome
I got in a serious wreck that would have totaled any other car, and just barely hurt mine. The police couldn't believe it, and niether could the body shop. It has 4 wheel disk brakes andis reinforced in the back front and underneath.
doesn't get any better!
This is my 3rd miata and I love every minute I am in it! This car looks like a mini Jag and is more fun to drive. What more can you say about a car that looks good, fun to drive past the pumps and will never leave you stranded on the side of the road! Total miles I put on my 3 miata's is 225,000 and never had to do more than normal service, lets see BMW owners say that!
car is awesome
this was my dream car until last month when it became MY CAR!!! I love everything about it it is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SLOJAZZ
"SLOJAZZ" is the custom license on my 2004 Miata, and like a a jazz composition it hums and purrs. This is my 3rd Miata and is the best of the three. While it is hardly comfortable on long trips, the performance and sheer fun of driving it make up for the highway noise and crampted cockpit. If you want a fun drive at a reasonable price you can't go long. The reliability of my previous two Miatas was excellent and I expect the same with this one.
Great Value
Fun to drive on those windy mountain roads or along the cost. OK on the highway, top down or up. Doesn't get blown around by the big trucks. Real value at $19,000. Great 3rd car. High gas mileage. Great grins for the money.
I feel like a kid again!
I love driving the Miata in the early evening of summer days, with the sun going down and the air starting to cool. Everywhere I park the car, people say "That's my car" I say "Dream on"
New Miata Special Edition
Great looking car and a lot of fun to drive with the 6-speed. The interior comfort is fine. My only problem has been with the clutch pedal being too close to the left footrest on the floor. The car runs and performs flawlessly. The Bose music system is also great. Gas mileage has been around 26 mpg so far.
100,000+ miles and still feels new
I bought a 2004 Miata MX-5 used with 107,000 miles on it from a 72 yr old man, who bought it from an 81 year old man. I'm 62. I spent $5000 for it with the hardtop. I invested $5000 in it to replace the top, the cat-converter, new high end stereo, detail, brakes and a few other things. At 13 years old, the car is tight and desirable to drive and now worth every bit of the 10k I have in it. I sold hundreds of sports cars in the 80s, but never bought one myself until now - although I have had a penchant for luxury coupes and sedans. My mechanic tells me I got a steal here locally, given the condition and the fact I also got a hardtop with it. One of the best used car values I've ever run across.

Atlantic to Pacific
I am 65 wife is 64.We planned a trip to Las Vegas to watch our Son Thunderbird #1 fly his last show. Taking delivery on the Miata we drove to Daytona Beach, Fl. Put the rear wheels in the Atlantic and headed to Ca. where we put the front wheels in the Pacific. The Miata performed excellent at high altitude with steep climbs. On Interstate 40 we set the cruise on 80. We drove in hard rain and rough Interstate. No Leaks, No rattles. We logged 7000 miles in less than 4 weeks. Fuel Consumption 30+mpg. "We love this Car"
Had to have it
This is my second Miata. Had a 2001 that got creamed by an SUV that ran a red light in 2002. The car was destroyed almost beyond recognition. I ended up in a shock trauma unit with a devastating right leg injury that will be with me for the rest of my life. After 13 months I was able to return to work and went right out and brought a new Miata. This sucker is just plain addictive fun.
Little Sweetie
THis engine gets everything wrung out of it that is possible. Running at3500 RMP she simply sings down the highway! Excellent in "down shift and up throttle" mode. With the factory- installed spoiler on the trunk lid, it tends to settle the rear end at higher speeds.
Is there any more fun than this?
It's a great curve-hugging ride that looks clean, cool, and doesn't break your wallet. I've test-driven BMW, Porsche, Audi, Toyota, and Honda convertibles ... none of them come close to the practical fun of a Miata. Zoom, zoom, zoom!
This car is ok
I bought this car as a novelty, you know 30 going on 31 dad trying to be cool. The vehicle is not very comfortable for tall people like me. it is fun to drive with the top down only as with the top up it can be quite painful for me. If someone were to ask if i would buy 1 again i would have to regretfully decline.
Awsome
This car is great fun. It's impossible to drive it without having a smile put on your face. Your neighbors will adore you.
Mazda Miata MX-5
I bought this car as a fun alternative to my SUV and love every minute of driving it!! It makes daily sales calls fun and takes the edge off of all of the windshield time. On days when it is possible to pop the top, that is the most fun of all! With the wind blowing through your hair and the radio blairing, what could possibly equal that?!!!
MazdaSpeed Miata
Mazda's MazdaSpeed Miata, is all that the Miata was, and more. Intercooled turbo, Hart Racing Wheels, new suspension, and new Toyo Proxea tires. The way I figure it, that alone is worth about $3000 if I had done it myself. As close as I can tell, it was about $600 more on the sticker. This is the best value I have ever had, and it runs and handles like stink....
Pure Driving Fun!
I was looking for a vehicle that I could have fun with, but keep me out of trouble with the speeding tickets (grin). I also wanted it to reasonably priced and reliable. That's when I decided to test drive a Miata. I didn't need or want a convertible, but I heard how well it handled. Well, I purchased a 1999 LS and absolutely loved it. I then fell in love with the 2003 Miata (Shinsen Edition), so I traded my 1999 LS. I never had any mechanical problems with either of them and I just love sunny days so I can zoom zoom zoom down to the beach and cruise the coast or head to a twisty road!
1999 MX-5
Great Car! I would buy another anyday! The car handles great and for a 4 cylinder puts out alot of power!
Fifi's View
Overall a great sports vehicle with low maintenance, great handling, priced a little high for limited options, no optional interior storage areas.
Mazda Miata Convertible.......LOVE IT!!!
This car not only gets you to and from work, but on the weekends is your best friend!! All I can say is it's fun to drive and a head turner.
FUN FUN and more fun
More power than on the charts, More fun to drive and gips the roads so tight I have lost two passenger seat covers. Had to find a local club with other Lovers of this great car
Mazda Miata
This car has replaced my Harley Electra Glide because it is safer, more comfortable in adverse weather, yet it rides low to the ground and you can still "feel the road" and let the wind blow in your hair!
My MX5
This is the most fun and enjoyable car I have owned in years. We will be taking it on some long trips soon but so far it is a great car. Trunk space is small but great for weekends. Power enough for large hills and fast enough for the freeways. Just not a winter car, too low to the road and the top is always up because of the snow and cold. I you like the MGs of the past you will love the MX5.
it high speed proformance
i just love this car .
The car that made driving FUN again.
My first Miata was a 2000 standard edition; 5speed, cloth/vinyl interior, factory stereo/cd, standard suspension and wheels etc... I drove it for about a year and loved every minute of it.I missed it from the moment it was gone. Now, 2 years later, I have a '01 LS 6- speed, Nardi interior, leather, Bose Stero/cd, CC, sport whls/tires and suspension. As well as the standard model handled, I was shocked and amazed at how much better the LS handles. This car corners like it is on rails. It's definitely not a muscle car, it has plenty of pep and I get 30 mpg hwy, and 20-25 city.I highly recommend the Miata to anyone who wants to enjoy driving again!
exceptional value
Fun to drive in town and interstate. Have made 2 2000 mile trips and the seating position for me is less fatiging than all vehicles I have owned.Fairly strong engine for vehicle this light in weight. Very tight, no rattles. I live in midwest and have to swap tires in winter for better traction. Did my homework, and found Falcon to be best for snow and rain. Have added stainless steel roll bar and Racing Beat stainless steel muffler. Plan to keep.
Most Fun to Drive
You can get a power to weight ration that will rival super sport cars with the many aftermarket options. This car was designed as a convertible, so there is not the "second guess force and fit" with most other convertibles. This is the car that started the roadster revelution in 1990 as the car of the year. It has ranked in the Top 10 cars ever since.
My 2004 Miata
I have never purchaced, nor owned a more fun-to-drive car than the Mazda Miata. It handles curves effortlessly, has excellent road manners and the styling is superb. Its nimbleness allows easy maneuvering through tight city traffic.
Excellent Car
I had a Saturn SL2. The car handles tight corners, avoidance manoeuvers superbly. Interiour is well thought out, nice materials. The transmission shifts very smooth and precise. Trunk is small, but better than MR2 Spyder. Overall quality and finish of materials is very nice. Longitudianl engine, easy service. The Mazda VVT and longer stroke make the 1.8L powerplant feel more powerful.
A must-drive before you buy
Wow. I thought the "fun drive" thing was hype, but I was wrong. A real joy to drive. I drove them all, Porche Boxster, Audi TT, Nissan 300, BMW Z-4. Thought I was going to get the Z-4 until I drove the Miata....AND I can get my golf clubs in the trunks - NO OTHER CONVERTIBLE COULD DO THIS - and its about 60% of the price of the Z-4.
2nd 1 and still love it
best bang for the buck
tomsmiata
The Mazada Miata is an excellent sports car. It is fun to drive very inexpensive to operate and maintain. Retains a high resale value. Excellent curb appeat and attention grabber on the road. The ride comfort is excellent. fit and finish EXCELLENT. Overall great car.......
non
its a great car and everyone else love it too!
for the money
THIS CAR DEFINITELY HAS A SMOOTH SPORTS CAR FEEL AT A REASONABLE PRICE. GOOD LOOKING AND GREAT DRIVING AND RIDING.
Awsome
The Best Car Ever!!!!!!
the mean machine
extreme turning, add a turbo-charger to it and it will keep up with the new corvette. as it is, it can take over a lot of cars on the road due to it light weight design and rear-wheel drive. its a very fun car to drive. if your really interested, you can now get a MAZDA SPEED version which comes with a turbo already. a test drive will sell the car. have fun!
