The 3 row SUV for the driving enthusiast
After moving back to the city, it was apparent that my 20 Toyota Tundra Platinum was no longer in it's element. I moved into a house with a small garage and could barely fit the truck in the garage, and driving in the city was cumbersome. It was a difficult decision to let this fine truck go, but now I own a 21 CX-9 GT in soul red. Initially I wanted a Signature, but decided that the 2nd row bench seats was going to more useful than the captain chairs. The Mazda is such a joy to drive. It feels much smaller on the road than any other 3 row. The driver inputs are met with precision. The powertrain is smooth and well calibrated. The 2.5L turbo with its 300+ft of torque gives a nice shove at low rpms. This engine is not a screamer, very seldom will you need more than 4k rpms. Because of this, the engine never feels taxed. The transmission shifts quickly and is always ready to downshift. The paddle shifters are very useful for saving the brakes on mountain drives. The brakes are powerful and direct. The cornering limits are very high with very little body roll. The driving position is perfect and the seats are very supportive. The heated and ventilated function work well for keeping my back comfortable. I love the infotainment setup. The scroll wheel takes about 5 minutes to figure out and is much better than the distracting push button screens found in most of the competition. The Bose stereo is very impressive, it has a very clean sound. The HUD is easier to read and keeps my eyes on the road. Another feature that I love is the front camera and 360 degree camera. A big plus for getting my car in my small garage. With all the positives of the CX-9, the only weakness would be the lack of cargo/people space. I rarely have more than two passengers in my car but it is nice to have the third row for occasional use. And honestly if you need something to haul 6 or more passengers, a minivan would be a better choice than any 3 row crossover. If you enjoy driving and need something a little larger than a 5 passenger crossover, I would highly recommend an extended test drive of a CX-9. It will put a big smile on your face.

Fantastic Choice
I knew the CX-9 was a good suv but I didn't it to be a GREAT suv! Styling is superb, engine is very smooth and torquey. The materials on the inside of the driver cabin is on par with brands costing thousands of dollars more.....I traded in my 2016 C300 and never looked back. Really didn't need the 3rd row for it just my wife and I so we fold it down when we need extra cargo space. I would recommend this vehicle for anyone looking to not look like the others

Big bang for the buck!
Been driving my 2022 CX-9 Carbon Edition for three weeks now and I very satisfied with my purchase. I was a little nervous in in taking the plunge on this vehicle since the current iteration has been around for quite some time. I traded in a 2019 Passport Elite which I must say was a fine vehicle. It was super dependable, has storage for days and was easy to drive whether it was to the grocery store or on a road trip to the Carolinas. The Honda was like wearing your favorite pair if khakis; it never let you down, comfortable and not the least bit flashy. One must admit however the Passport especially the Elite model does exude an aura of style, toughness and personality that most Honda's do not. All praise for the Honda aside, honestly I do not miss it at all. The CX-9 (Carbon Edition especially) looks great, drives great, feels and handles like a much smaller vehicle. My Honda felt strong and sturdy while the Mazda in comparison feels quick and nimble. According to all reports the Honda is actually faster 0-60 than the Mazda but you would never know it by the way they feel. The CX-9 is quite and comfortablre and I cannot wait to get it on a road trip to Michigan in a couple months. I can nitpick a few items on the Mazda that are all generally small annoyances. The inside storage (center console and doors) is well below average and again in comparison to the Honda, miles behind it. The good news is with less space I will not store so much junk and perhaps my car will stay cleaner! Doors feel light and often times find myself seemingly having to slam them shut to get them to close properly. The 3rd row cupholders are really unnecessary and all they do it eat up potential storage space in the rear of the vehicle making it feel somewhat narrow. I'm sure the 2023 updated CX-9 (or CX-90) and other new Mazda SUV's will be fantastic vehicles too but it's not hard to see what there are so many CX-9's and CX-5's on the road today. The CX-9 still feels and looks like it belongs and the drive confirms my decision every time I get behind the wheel. Dollar for dollar, feature for feature you will be hard pressed to find anything with such a combination of satisfying drive, adequate space, contemporary looks for the money!

Can't Beat the Value
Been looking at a lot of SUV's to replace my wife's 2015 Toyota Highlander XLE. By far the Mazda is the most luxurious option for the price. Went with the Grand Touring for all the features plus wanted a second row bench seat. Rarely use third row but need the cargo space. I drive a BMW X3 and I have to say this car is loaded for the price with the same quality, fit and finish. To get all the features in a BMW you would pay another $10-15k. Considered another Highlander, Santa Fe did not look at Palisade. After seeing it and driving it there was no comparison - it's that good. Time will tell if it is as reliable as the Highlander was for us buy Mazda rates high on all the quality surveys. Recommend you add this to your list!

So much fun to drive!
Get the extra's - it's so nice to have heated/cooled seats and the extra features that come with a Grand Touring model are so worth it!
