I’ve owned 2 Acura MDX’s and most recently a Hyundai Santa Fe and this car has them both beat. It’s packed with great technology. I wanted something with great handling and the CX9 fits the bill. It has great acceleration, steering and braking. It’s a fun driving car, super smooth and frisky.

2016-2020 CX-9 has an issue with the cylinder head cracking. $6-10K to repair. TSB issued about problem. Avoid this model.

Outstanding vehicle for the price

This SUV beats the competitors hands down when it comes to performance, technology and safety features. It is not that Mazda's competitors don't have those features, its just that they add many more dollars to the final cost. Mazda doesn't play that game. It is true that the Mazda has 4 different trims available but Mazda is very generous even at the base level. I have owned 1 Mercedes, 1 Audi, and 3 Infinities and after driving this SUV I no longer see the point in paying extra for those name plates. They were all wonderful cars but they were expensive to buy and expensive to maintain. This SUV is quiet and comfortable. It has great acceleration especially when you consider how big it is. It is going to be cheaper to maintain than my previous cars and not just a little cheaper but a lot cheaper. I did opt to get the extended warranty because this SUV comes with a lot of Tech and I plan on keeping it for a long time. I like the styling but I understand the look is not for everyone, but I have already received complements in parking lots.

The CX-9 was the clear winner...

When considering handling, styling inside and out, and cost for extras, the new CX-9 beat all other vehicles we test drove. We liked the Hyundai Santa Fe since we have the Sport as our second vehicle, but 7-seater had not been updated compared with the 2013 version and we were looking for something a little more fun and new. The Nissan Pathfinder was nice, a bit more spacious, but when adding the extras, the cost was more and it ultimately didn't not have the beautiful interior and exterior styling. Overall extremely happy with this purchase.

Stopped in parking lot in remote area. Returned to vehicle and it would not start. 2017 cx9 with 4100 miles and full tank of gas. Engine would just grind when pushing on started. Seemed like it was not getting gas. Had to call road service. Had to wait an hour till they got there. Vehicle had to be towed about 35 miles to dealer. Dealer could not determine cause of not starting. No fuel pressure coming from fuel pump. Had to leave vehicle and take loaned. Very unusual malfunction with only 4100 miles. Still dont know cause. Very disappointed with vehicle malfunction with such low miles Update. Car in dealer service 6 days. Fuel pump computer failure. Computer modulator had to be replaced after 4100 miles. All covered by warranty plus loaner car but it happened while on vacation. Fortunately i was at my destination and it didn't happen at a rest stop. Still questioning the reliability of vehicle.
