I like Mazda as a Company....they get what I like in a vehicle, good driving dynamics with quality materials at a reasonable price. This is my 3rd Cx5....and every iteration gets better. The knock appears to be the base engine power. Personally I find the base 2.5 to be more than adequate. No regrets here. UPDATE: The design is attractive, power adequate and a well appointed interior. I don't mind the central control knob for audio functions and the standard audio quality is very good but I find Android Auto clunky to use . My only real complaint is the small and low location of the climate control buttons. My lease was up so I purchased the vehicle. Totally pleased with it.

One of the best rides you can get for the price. CX-5 Looks stunning and the available Turbo engine is something I think should be standard in zoom-zoom Mazdas. CX-5 is BETTER than Rogue, Pathfinder, Rav4, and Highlander. I am telling you, you WILL NOT find better looking or driving a car for this price. And one this I see reviewers talking about as a negative is trunk space. Put it this way I couldn't care about the trunk. If you have a family of 5 then get Odddesy or something. CX-5 PREMIUM car with a lot to offer. I will not buy anything else ever again. 3 years later review. I can sign under every word I wrote. After three years of service, I couldn't be happier with my baby. 2023 CX-5, here I come !!!! I only wish for one thing. CX-70. If it's anything like the cx-5 in a super Luxury package with an updated Engine AND transmission. OMG. If you're looking for a new car around October-ish of 2023. I only hope CX-70 is on the horizon. Put it this way, CX-5 is a zoom-zoom car. CX-70 is a ZOOM-ZOOM car with luxury attached to it. If you want a Mercedes or BMW, look at CX-70 before you do anything else.

I absolutely love my Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring drives smooth handles very well 187hp and 186 torque is more than adequate turbo engine would have been nice to have but not willing to spend the money. Plus I rather have V6 then a turbo engine people make a big deal out of horse power but when a Nissan Sentra pass you up on a highway it really does not matter. Awesome car it should be on everyone’s top list.

Formula 1 in an SUV

Three years on I still stand by my review below. I have had zero issues with vehicle so far and still average over 30mpg. After significant research and testing I traded my well used Honda CRV in for the Mazda CX-5. Another CRV was on my mind but the Mazda had better towing capabilities, more power and better mpg. After test driving multiple makes I found it to personally have a more refined interior design, handling response and ride. I get excellent highway mileage averaging around 36mpg, unless I start using the paddle shifters. Add all that the "fun" I have driving it and the smile it puts on my face is well worth it. I like the multiple rear seat release configurations with the added ability to put the seats down from the cargo area. A few drawbacks: infotainment center operation is a bit dated and could use a new software package but it does work great just takes a bit of "getting use to". The CX-5 2.5L can be a bit wonky when it comes to oil changes. The actual amount of oil needed can and does vary by vehicle and it is a known "quirk" with Mazda. After my first oil change my "oil" light (there are several) came on for "low" oil. I stopped for 5 minutes and it was okay but came back on later. I found out my CX-5 actually requires an additional 6-8 ounces of oil to keep the light from coming on. I've had no issues since doing that. It easily tows my boat with no effect on the rear suspension or change in handling response. The brakes work great but I will likely upgrade to a performance package in the future as I have done with all my vehicles (excluding motorcycles). Three years and 32K in everything is working great, replaced the stock Toyo tires which made a huge difference in ride and upped the handling response. I'm averaging 26-28mpg around town and 32+ on the highway.

First Mazda as a Subaru Owner

After reading the high praise for the drivability, reliability and customer loyalty of the Mazda brand, the CX-5 seemed like a great choice for a small SUV. I was very impressed by the luxurious quality of the interior. The soft leather, quiet ride and solid materials give me the overall feeling that I’m driving a much more expensive SUV. As a new parent, I was concerned about the rear-facing infant car seat space behind the front passenger, but there was plenty of room for my wife of 5’8” to sit very comfortably. There is ample power that the AWD and turbo 4-cylinder deliver when you need it. The AWD is also great when cornering, making this a very confidant vehicle. My only wish echoes others on the media experience - only the top-level Signature trim comes with Navigation, but I understand that Mazda is eventually moving away from proprietary systems toward the customer preferred Apple and Android systems. I can’t say that the experience with the interface is awful, it just takes some getting used to. Overall, I am very satisfied with the 2020 GTR. It’s the first time I feel that I’m getting more value than what I paid for the vehicle, and will definitely be a future Mazda customer.

My 2014 Touring with premium package was a great car. Fun to drive, economical, and reliable. Main safety feature was BSM, which saved my butt many times. I only had 53,000 miles, but traded it in on a 2020 Grand Touring, white with parchment leather. It’s everything I liked plus more! More safety features, more style, noticeably quieter, and more fun. Could not be happier with my decision. Yes, the AWD and Turbo engine would have been great, but I have been satisfied with the NA 2.5 liter engine. As far as features, the GT gave me everything I wanted.

Great little vehicle! Fun to drive as it really sticks to the road. Not over-powered, but it has enough to get you there safely. Love the "command center knob", and was very impressed with the ACC and how well it kept up the selected speed and held the distance from the vehicle ahead. Interior is very well done; good quality and appearance. A little short of storage space.

Love everything but beware the sport model does not come with rear cup holders. I found out when my son did have any where to set his drink. At this price point they could have put in cup holders, I would have bought a different suv if I would have realized.

I traded in my Mazda3 for a cx5 this year. I was going to make a cross country road trip (the first of many), and I knew the little mazda3 wouldn't cut it. I test drove several other brands of small SUV vehicles, but it came down to two factors: I knew Mazda was very reliable based on my mazda3 experience and consumer reports ratings. And second, I compared HP and torque, and the upgraded Mazda engine was one of the top performers in its class. I got the top trim so I could get a sunroof, seat warmers, the upgraded engine, and AWD. I haven't regretted buying it for a second. Even my husband, the picky race car fanatic, drove it one day and liked it.

I had two Nissan Rogues. One a 2011, at 125k cvt started slipping. 2017, started feeling the same at 44k. I test drove the Cx 5 and there was no comparison! I bought the Grand Touring 2020 and has been a fun ride as I feel like I am driving a sedan vs an suv. It’s quiet, has mostly all the bells and whistles. Looking forward to many years with my Mazda cx 5 GT

I went from a Cadillac Escalade to a 2020 Mazda CX-5. I’m use to luxury and big SUV and when I first saw the Mazda it caught my attention the front grill looks amazing kind of similar to a Lexus front grill. I test drove the Mazda and I absolutely loved it great deal for under 30K can’t go wrong with that I highly recommend this vehicle.

Had a Subaru Outback 2019 top of the line. Great car, but zero fun factor. Traded it for CX 5 signature. Could definitely tell that Mazda is more premium built and finish even though Subaru was great. Mazda is drivers car. Simple layout, sporty feel and blast to drive. If you go easy on a gas pedal can get very respectable gas mileage. By the way Mazda took first place on reliability taken over Toyota and Lexus. Best price and value car.

Superior ride at an affordable price. The quality of this vehicle is readily apparent from the moment you slide into the drivers seat. The interior finish is similar to that of an Audi or BMW. The seats are comfortable and the settings adjust nice and easy. The dash is well appointed with dials, etc. within easy reach. The intuitive cruise control is a favorite attribute of this vehicle. This SUV handles really well on the road, from rough surfaces and around curves to highway driving and in adverse weather conditions. This is one quiet ride. Although the cargo area is a bit smaller than the Rogue and CRV, it is still plenty big enough for me. The 4 cylinder engine is adequate and transmission is smooooth. Frankly, I just plain love driving this vehicle.

Best in it's class

The Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve is by far the best option of any mid-sized SUV. It has all the safety features like blind spot monitoring, lane assist, backup monitoring. Plus it has all the luxury items you want in it's heated AND cooled driver/passenger seats, power driver/passenger seats, heat rear seats, auto climate control. But, best of all, it has one of the best heads-up display out for a vehicle under 50K. You get the turbo engine with the Grand Touring Reserve and Signature models. Very fun to drive. It has really nice LED headlights and tail lights. The info system is a bit lagging behind the competition but the Bose sound system makes up for that. Compare the Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve or Signature to BMW X3, Alpha Romeo STELVO, Lincoln Corsair and any of the Lexus's and you get more features, better ride, and just as good looking for thousands less in the CX-5. In my opinion, only the Lincoln Corsair is worth the extra 10-15K. Only reason for not giving a 5 star is the infor system. I don't know why Mazda didn't put the same system as the CX-30 in the 2020 models of the CX lineup.

Great Car with Great Features

I purchased the Touring model with the Touring Preferred package (Auto Lift Gate, Bose Sound System and Moonroof) For an average family of four, this car is perfect. Style, performance, room and features that really make you happy to drive the car. The seating is very comfortable and my kids really dig the car (bonus!). Bose sound is fantastic, styling is top end. The engine isn't a rocket, but it works just fine. Drop it into Sport mode if you want to rev it a bit, and you'll be satisfied.

Red 2020- Mazda CX5 Signature

May 24, 2023 Update: CX-5 continues to perform like a champ which at the end of the day is why I bought her. However, 3 things really bother me about the car. The key fob apparatus is awful. As discussed in many forums, the audio system is extremely dated. The small gas tank has be at the gas station constantly. If these three items are critical to you, I would strongly urge you to dig into them, prior to buying this vehicle. I'm not sure I would knowing what I know today. I purchased a red, 2020 CX-5 Signature last month with about 32k miles on her.....I was in the market for a Grand Touring Reserve but this bubbled up, and at the right price I grabbed her. I live in New Jersey and since then the Mrs. and I have gone round trip to Philadelphia (200 Miles), r/t to Holy Cross in Massachusetts (400 Miles) and r/t to Providence (400 Miles). The car is basically what I expected and why I bought it. First off, it looks fabulous, doesn't it? The reason for the purchase was the performance, and this car has it. I could probably get 30mpg if I really babied her at 55-60 mph, but who wants to do that....seems like I am getting 25 to 27. People have commented that the front seats are too confining, but I am an average to above average guy, and I do not have a problem with it. As many reviews point out the technology/audio system really sucks. I cannot believe they put it in such a great vehicle, but again, not why I bought it. I plan to keep it for a while, and maybe ultimately sell it to one of our kids, who trust me will be happy to have it based on how we maintain our vehicles. So far so good....

The Mazda CX-5 is a great SUV. It is comfortable, has the automatic latch on the hatch, and gets about an average of 28 miles per hour.

I have the non-turbo, and it still packs a punch, handles like a dream, and rides pretty smooth! Looking forward to many more miles in this car. Interior leather accents very nicely finished. Many don't know that Mazda has been working with Toyota for a few years now, so that is a plus that drew me to this vehicle. I've heard some complain that the infotainment system isn't touch screen when the vehicle is in motion(I believe that's adjustable in settings, but I haven't changed it), and that's fine with me as I can't ever seem to hit the right app the first time with touch screens anyway and it causes my eyes to be off the road too long. The knob, while driving, is simple to use and accurate(though figuring out where it will go when you spin it may take some getting used to). Many may also get tripped up by the fact it is a basic 6 speed transmission. Do you feel it shift? Yes, but not horribly, and coming from a manual transmission car, I really like the shifts anyway. The transmission is not incapable by any means either. As far as I have noticed, the RPMs stay pretty low, and the power is readily available when needed. Gas mileage is solid as well. Best part? For as new of a car as this is, the DIY serviceability is still there as opposed to other brands that have limited working on their vehicles to dealerships. This vehicle has dipsticks to check your oil AND transmission fluid(may be normal, but i don't figure it is on newer vehicles). Overall the CX-5 is VERY driver intuitive and just makes sense.

Bought new with 31 miles on it. Following maintenance schedules and vehicle is great on gas. All the options were added to a regular touring model.

I love it! Bought it new in 2020. Grand Touring Reserve with the turbo in Soul Crystal red metallic. I'm currently at 56k miles with zero issues. I do oil changes every 5k miles. Originally I test drove a CRV, RAV4, Forrester, and CX5. I picked the Mazda bc it looks, feels, and drives like a luxury SUV. 320 |b/ft of torque for a compact really gives it the edge over anything else in the class. Four years later and it still feels as solid as the day I bought it. The handling's amazing, and the ride is great! Some people have called the ride firm but I would say it's super compliant. It settles very quickly over bumps without feeling upset. The Bose system sounds "good" but only has bass and treble adjustments with no mid which would make it even better. The ventilated seats work better than in other cars I tested as well. It's also one of the quietest too letting in very little wind and tire noise.

Fabulous car. This Mazda CX-5 replaces our 2016, Honda CRV which I liked, but LOVE this Mazda. Like a “poor man’s BMW.” Quick. nimble, well designed. Liking the turbo power, essential in merging and passing. Amazing features: Intuitive Cruise control (slows the car down when cars in front of you slow down… Even to a stop!) Runs on regular gas, a plus. Air-conditioned seats in hot weather! Heated windshield wipers! Front crash mitigation. Auto lift gate, Apple CarPlay (displays your smartphone on the car’s screen, great for Waze, Google Maps) My fave: “heads up” display projects your speed like a 3D hologram in front of you Overall, an excellent vehicle, fun to drive. I see so many CX-5’s on the road these days. Probably my favourite car to date (have owned Chevy Suburbans, BMW SUVs, Honda CRV, Nissan Maximas, Hyundai Santa Fe’s). The downside: 19-20 mpg local driving 27-28 highway. Smaller capacity than the CRV Overall, Highly recommend this car.

Only been a week, but coming from a 2010 Camaro that broke down most of the time, I’m having fun getting used to not having blind spots. It’s just me so I’ve all the room I need .

Great little SUV with a powerful turbo and excellent handling. Interior is upscale considering its price (actually, even not considering the price), Nothing but positive things to say other than I got a good price as a trade-in - bought a 2024 Mustang GT. So win-win.
