Good control/comfort. Poor mileage.
Mileage is definitely lower than 23 mpg in city and 33 on highway :( ... comfortable to drive but experiencing bluetooth and air-conditioner issues.

Technology is overrated
My CX-5 is a good car but many features fall short of expectations. 1) The vehicle has all city braking which, unfortunately, is not ready for prime time. Really the feature is rather useless. The car will not stop before a collision occurs. 2) The navigation system is useless. The car does not offer real time traffic updates. Mazda needs to update their vehicles to use Apple Play. That would allow the driver to use Waze or Google maps as navigation systems. Entering a destination is cumbersome and time consuming. 3) The speed sensing cruise control is great. It does slow the car down in traffic. Unfortunately, it shuts off at 15MPH so cannot be used in stop and go traffic. 4) The headlights are great as they turn the corner with you. Brights can be programmed to come on automatically. 5) The Infotainment system is bad. My pet peeve is that the screen for Sirius does not display the full name of the song nor does it show the album artwork.

Mazda 2016 CX5 brakes are a problem!
Liked the car pretty much except for the fact that it is very noisy at startup. Now I am very annoyed with the fact that the brakes will need to be replaced, including one caliper in the rear left brake that is frozen. I never use the electronic emergency brake so that is not the cause. The pads are in rough shape and there is a lot of rust on the brakes. The car only has 45000+ miles on it. I have NEVER had this problem with any other car I/we owned. In reading online about these brakes I found that there are a lot of other folks experiencing the same thing. So, I hope that Mazda will take notice and work on fixing this problem. In the past I did see that Mazda was replacing some brakes on the CX5 for older years even when out of warranty due to this same issue. However, it appears that the 2016 Mazda CX5 brake problem is not being addressed. I will switch back to always buying a Toyota.

I love this Car
I did tons of research..and am very very happy with this car. I opted for the tech pack and the grand touring. I wanted the leather and the cooler wheels and the led lights..also the 9 speaker bose system is awesome. Mazda of North Miami were great! Perfect car..looks dope, great on gas...huge inside for a compact car..better ride than the lexus NX also

mazda cx 5 sport 2016
had a cx 5 2013 the radio was nicer for the fact that the usb port worked with a mp3 player and the 2016 won't. First we were told the mp3 player wasn't new enough for the newer radio, so we baught a new mp3 player and still wont work through the usb port, then they told us the technology in the 2016 wasn't able to read the mp3 player. So why was the 2013 able to do so but the newer 2016 wont???????
Test drove - great car - lacked "zoom zoom"
We loved everything about the CX5 AWD Grand Touring except for its lackluster power. The zoom zoom we were looking for was just not there. Similar power to weight ratio to the Ford Escape 1.6 ecoboost and Hyundai Tuscon Limited. We wanted to like it for everything else, but couldn't get past the feeling of not being able to get out of it's own way. The new "MMI" style audi/nav interface was so simple to use while driving. Win there for Mazda. Just lacked the zoom zoom.

great new car
just upgraded from my mazda 3 hatch into the 2016 cx-5 touring with bose/moonroof. its a great car with amazing handling for a vehicle in this class. I was shocked at how well it holds the road even with its 8.5 inch of ground clearance. this really is a great little suv.

Love the car but...
Owned since 4/16. 25,000 miles. Safety features are great; Especially the blind spot warning indicators. I opted for the GT because it was the only trim with XM radio and leather.Plus I really like the optional LED light package. The ride is smooth and has all the pep I need as I mostly drive highway so, I set the cruse and forget it. Mileage range is 25/30 mpg. The seats are very comfortable and sit up high. I'm 6'2" and the ride is smooth and comfortable. The only issue is the center console and the cup holder location. To access the console safely, you'll need to pull off the highway because you have to turn your body around to access the thing! Bose speakers are OK but, I expected more from Bose. So far, I'm happy with the car but...for the cons...... l typically keep a car for 10 years and the durability of components concerns me. I completely clean and detail this vehicle every week and have noticed a few things that concern me after only 1.5 yrs. Some of the finish has started "flaking " around the info screen, the handle in the hatch to release rear seats keeps falling out. And while it fits good, some interior plastic parts just feel "cheap". Exterior: The paint must be micro thin. I don't tailgate but the hood has numerous small chips and over reviews have noted the same issue. The exterior black plastic faded very quickly and must be dresses every week to keep the shine. My wife has a 3 year old vw Jetta and you can almost feel the difference in the paint thickness. While I believe I'll get good service from this CX-5, the appearance 3 years from now does concern me.

Wish I never bought it
Nothing major but little things that drive me nuts. Trans hangs often at 50 mph, dealer says that is "normal". A warning message EVERY time car is started telling you it is dangerous to use electronic controls when driving, takes a 5 seconds or more for it to clear meanwhile the radio, cd, etc is playing and you have no way to stop it until warning times out. After a few hundred times I don't need the message anymore. Dealer "claims" the daytime running lights can not be turned off during daylight , the manual says they can but dealer says the manual is wrong! Everytime I change a station on the radio the sound drops to low and comes back up slowly over 3-5 seconds.

No Mazda no more!
I purchased a brand new, 2016 Mazda CX-5. It looked great. It seemed to drive well and was comfortable during my 5 minute test drive. BUT, it is, by far, the WORST automobile I have ever owned. It stared falling apart within two months! I’m serous! Within 2 months: 1. The latch on the center console broke. 2. The seals (that go around the car where the rear doors meet the body) came loose and had to be “reinstalled” nightly. 3. The trim around the right rear wheel well came loose near the right rear passenger door. It also had to be “reinstalled” frequently (about once a week). 4. All the bolt covers came loose, and one was lost. (The car is poorly designed. There are exposed bolts in the back, where the rear seats meet the floor. They have plastic covers over them, but those covers come off easily. I had to replace them nightly.) 5. The Bluetooth had frequent issues. (Full disclosure: I was driving for Uber at the time. I had a lot of people in and out of my car each night, so the problems appeared very soon after I bought the car. I would guess that a typical family of 4 or 5, with active kids, will most likely experience the same problems with the seals, the trim, and the bolt covers, within a year or year and a half.) I was not in the area, so I took it to another dealership. They fixed everything. Temporarily. Within a couple of weeks, I was doing the nightly fix on the rear seals and bolt covers, plus a weekly fix on the trim around the right rear wheel well. I was finally back in the area, so I hurried to Tyrone Mazda. I bought the car from them, so I knew they’d take care of me. Wrong. (Apparently $24,000 doesn’t buy great customer service). They replaced one of the seals with a brand new one, and just taped the other one in place. Seriously. They took a 6” wide piece of tape and covered the seal. It looked like crap. They did put all the bolt covers back, and, at my insistence, screw them into place. When I picked my car up from them, and saw what they had done. I was not happy, but by this time, I had already had to fix the seals a couple hundred times, so I decided to give the tape a try. Then I noticed they hadn’t addressed the trim issue. I pointed this out to Mario, the service manager. He popped it back into place, just like I had been doing for the past several months. I should have insisted that he do something more permanent. My fault. I should not have let them get away with the shoddy workmanship and with not addressing the trim issue. I was in a hurry though. I was heading back out of town, and wanted to beat the rush hour traffic. The next time I was back in town, my brother in law, (who has never worked in the car business), was able to do a much better job of fixing everything. Everything was fine. No more nightly, or weekly repairs. Then my center console latch broke again. I called Tyrone Mazda. They said Mazda had an amnesty program and they would fix it without charge even though it was out of warranty. I took it to them. I also told them about the trim. After a few hours, they had fixed the latch. They didn’t fix the trim. Mario angrily told me that it was “out of warranty!”. Yeah, it WAS out of warranty. But if they’d have fixed it right when it was still under warranty, I wouldn’t have had to go back. Also, when they inspected the trim, they made it a lot worse than it was. It was halfway off when I drove away. They said they’d fix the trim for $166.00, parts and labor. No way in hell was I paying them anything. No way. I went to Brandon Carsmetics. The manager said if I bought the part, they’d put it on for me. I went to Brandon Mazda, bought the trim for $63. Went back to Carsmetics. They put it on for me. The charge? 0! Nothing. They didn’t want one penny for what Tyrone was going to charge $100 for!!! I had never done business with Carsmetics. They had never met me before, and yet they did for free what Tyrone Mazda was going to charge me $100 for. Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. I’d have been okay with Tyrone charging me the $63 for the part. But $100 for the labor?! Now the other issues: A five minute test drive does is not enough time to assess comfort. I found out very soon that the seats are exceptionally uncomfortable, if one has to drive for more than a few hours. The front seats have a rise on the sides, as do most car seats. The rises in Mazda seats, however, are very, very hard. If you are average size, or above, the sides of the seats will press into your thighs and hips. It’s not noticeable at first, but after a couple of months of driving a few hours a day, the pain starts. The seats themselves are made for small people. I started having back issues within months of getting the car and the back issues didn’t stop until I stopped driving more than an hour a day AND got a lumbar pad. Apparently, Mazda’s electronics weren’t designed with iPhones in mind because the Bluetooth absolutely sucks. It would stop working every damn time

No support
If you use Bluetooth avoid this car. Also don't be fooled by the cute screen and control knob, they can be a pain. The voice recognition for dialing is beyond bad, it is useless. There is no voice training so it does not improve over time. I tried everything to "call home", gives different messages all the time, a couple times it worked BUT did not route call thru the car speakers. Usually it displays a random contact and asks if this is the number I want to call. I created another contact "house", I said "call house", everytime I do this it jumps to the navigation screen. WTF. Manual says dealer can turn off the daytime running lights from always being on during the day, nope !!!
CX5 Touring-standard no extras
I just have my 2016 CX5 for about 4 days (hence the 4 star review) and so far I am loving it. Still can't tell much about the fuel economy as I haven't driven it that far yet. So far I love how it has a smooth acceleration and can go pretty fast pretty quickly. I am no expert when it comes to cars, the other car I drove for 8 years was another Mazda(3)which is now my son's car. I am hoping it will be true to its EPA estimate of 26/33 MPG or 29 combined. This is the first time I have owned a bigger vehicle, most cars I have owned were compact sedans. So the fuel economy is quite important. I didn't get the optional navigation system as for the moment I don't have use for it.
Not worth the money
This was my 2nd Mazda cx5 the first one I leased. This one I bought and decided to get the most of it. But now I know there is another one with more features. There is way too many different options for a CX5 now. First off I got remote start and I have had nothing but trouble with it. Saying I don't have enough bars to connect with the remote start. I have had it serviced 2 times now and they will not do anything for me. Second there is hardly any leg room in the back seat by the time you have 2 in the front. I have had this car for about 3 months now and it shifts bad. No lumbar support in the front seats. When they changed the touch screen system to be by the cup holders was a mistake. now not only to you have to look down to figure out what you are doing you have to concentrate on what the screen is doing and keeps your eyes off the road more. They also made the backup camera beep if something is coming but mine will beep even if something is not moving. Kinda scary when you cant see what it thinks it sees. After 4 Mazda's Will not buy a Mazda ever again.

Great Car! But it does have it's interior issues
I have had my car for a little less than a year. It has about 12,000 miles on it thus far. I have taken it on some great road trips in the mountains and the beach. The amount of cargo it holds is great! The steering it great, the power of the engine is great, but seems to struggle a little bit when going up inclines. When I say inclines, I mean freeways going up a hill. I thought that the engine wouldn't struggle as much as it does with a 2.5 engine...but it does. The breaking is great on the car and the steering is able to turn better than my Honda Accord! The stereo set up is kind of wonky and not very user friendly. I love the back up system! Nice big monitor to see whats behind you. The AC vents are placed in odd places in the front and the air flow for the passenger and driver is awkward and not really direct. The placement of the center monitor is to blame for this. One of my biggest gripes with the car is the quality of the interior seats! THEY SUCK! the material after only having the car for a short time is already deteriorating and unraveling. This is due to the seat belt rubbing against the side of the seat! I'm not sure if this is happening because of my height, but this seems like a design flaw Why they chose such a cheap material to put in the car is beyond me, but as a car buyer I am NOT happy with it at all. In very hot weather, around the front video screen monitor, the material is starting to bubble and come off...NOT GOOD! I LOVE the car, I really do, but the interior quality of the seats is no good and I can see myself getting them re-upholstered in the near future. FIX IT MAZDA!

Better than I hoped
I love the interior with the parchmant leather seats and the new center console. Feels more like a sports car and I wasn't really expecting that. It is my wife's car but I used it extensively over the weekend and I was really impressed. I am glad I talked her out of a volkswagen beetle and into this. She has thanked me several times as well.

Maxda CX 5 Grand Touring
Love my 2016 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring. It looks so fancy with the white exterior and white leather seats. The drive is amazing. The dealership in VA was also great to work with. Koons Tysons very professional folks.
GREAT mid priced SUV
I'll start that I live a portion of my week in my car communing from North of Boston to South of Boston on Rt 128. I drive 30K a year, I just traded my 2016 in for a 2020 because it had 90K miles on it. The CX5 was comfortable, stylish, depandable, peppy, safe, full featured, and a great stereo. Which is important for a PT musician. This was my first SUV. I have had AWD Subarus, Volvos, Infinitis. This was by far the best of them in snow and bad weather. The others required snow tires, The CX5 just needed a good set of all seasons and was a trooper in the snow on 128. I only required scheduled maintenance. I guess that says it all.

so far, love my new Cx5..it has everything I wanted in a Hyundai Tucson that would've cost 10,000 more! Go test drive it yourself. The only thing I am not happy with is the radio..it does go in and out depending where you are..but..I have my CDs, my Pandora and honestly I don't need Sirius XM, so expensive..so go check it out..can't beat the price for what you get..hope they upgrade the radio on next years model, then this car would be "perfect"!

Great Ride!
Took advantage of Mazda's sign and drive deal back in August. Almost at 5K miles. So, far I love this car. Only the Sport trim was available for the sign and drive deal but, it had all the features I wanted and with the 2016.5 model, all the trims come with the 2.5 L 185 hp engine. The vehicle drives like a car, a sporty one. Handles great and was pretty comfortable on three two hour one way trips so far. Easy to maneuver and park. Great visibility from the driver position and even the lowest trim gets the rear view camera. Averaging 27.1 mpg with so far which is decent for a crossover with pretty good acceleration. I'm able to easily pass other cars going uphill and you toggle into "sport" mode for a little extra boost. Once you get to sixth gear on the open highway, you can easily get more than 35 mpg. The climate controls are easy to use and it is quick to use and both the heater and AC are fairly powerful. The bluetooth pairing is cool and if someone tries to text you while you are driving, it will auto reply with a message that you are driving and can't reply. You can also have the system read aloud the text messages that receive. No problem playing music with my older iPod nano and it is nice you get two USB ports. Rear seating is decent and plenty of storage in the rear. The only things I don't like is the lack of cup holders for the rear passengers and you have to buy the rear storage cover for both the Sport and Touring trims. Fortunately, I found one on Amazon that is half the price of getting one from Mazda. The sport trim doesn't give you all the high tech safety features but, I was fine with that. I was fine with the cloth seats as well. Overall, I really enjoy driving this vehicle and will probably lease or even buy another one when my current lease is up.

I LOVE the Mazda CX-5!
I researched this car for over a year before making the purchase. And...I'm so glad that I bought it. It's dependable, fun to drive, handles well in bad weather and is pleasing to the eyes. The only "negative" that I can say it that the MPG was advertised as getting between 27-32 MPG on the highway and we're getting about 24. Not bad though. Otherwise, a GREAT car. Our next new car/second car might also be a CX-5; yes, that good!

Reluctant to upgrade to an SUV from my Mazda 3 hatchback, this car is just as fun to drive and has significantly more power. It is very comfortable, with lots of great features, such as being able to drop the back seats down by using a level in the trunk, so you don't have to climb into the back to do it. Great storage room. Does not drive like an SUV- drives like a car!

Get the cx-5
I bought my 2016 (and a half) brand new in 2017. I swear by this vehicle. Mine has over 257,000 miles on it (unfortunately had to use it as a work vehicle). Outside regular maintenance, nothing happened to my vehicle until 183k miles (had to replace the serpentine belt, couple hundred dollar fix), and ofcourse needing some suspension work done at over 200k. It still drives like it has 35k on it. I wish they would update the look, cause I would definitely upgrade to another one, if they did. If you want something reliable and cheap to maintain, please do you, and your family a favor and jump on the cx-5. Oh, and dont worry about the non turbo model, once you put the sports mode on you will feel a very smooth, fast airplane take off. lol. I still love my vehicle, despite the very high mileage.

How much would a backup sensor COST????????
The car has side sensors which is a nice feature and it has a backup camera if it is not raining because raindrops obscure the view, but it does not have backup sensors which was standard on many cars 3 years earlier. I backed into my garage door ( I know what you are saying, he is a dummy) but I know other drivers who have damaged their back gate doing the same thing. The rear sensors would have prevented that.

Horrible
Do not buy this car if you want a comfortable, quite ride with music. Do not buy this car if you take your dogs with you. It collects hair and dirt. The dashboard is made of a black rubber tire. How do you clean that? Do not buy this car if you haul grain or horse supplies. It takes hours to clean. I think the body is made out of Pepsi cans. Every bump in the road you will feel. The road noise is deafening especially when you ride in the backseat . Forget trying to listen to the radio while driving over 40mph. I live in the mountains, so I can't get a radio station anyway. I thought it had Sirius , but of course not. It can't even be installed. I bought this piece of junk for 33,000 dollars. I traded in my beautiful Hummer and would do anything to get it back!!!

Had High Hopes
I am still in the market for a SUV 5 seater and based on the reviews was ready to give a try to Mazda. Her is my laundry list of why I did not go further than the test drive. 1. No auto rear open hatch, not even as an option. 2. Interior was sparse and not as well appointed as some of the competition out there. There is a plasticy feeling in the car and no real feature comforts. 3. No rear back up sensors available. The positive is the price and it does have some punch to it. Also you cannot beat the gas mileage. We were blown away however at the Santa Fe by Hyundai. Never even thought about owning one, but I am super excited about possibly getting one. The options are many, including turbo 2.0 engine. All of the gadgets a guy/gal could ever want including, Apple Car integration, rear sensors, all around camera view, cruise control with auto distancing, reclining rear seats, heated seats available on both up front and rear seats, cooling feature on the seats upfront, an amazing full car sun roof and one of the best bumper to bumper warranty out there 5 years/60k miles. All at a price is in line or lower than anything out there.

Run to the nearest other dealer in the area......
First off, the looks are deceiving. It's a fantastic looking SUV. However, once you start using it daily, the looks become a mockery. I'm going to start with the basics. Cargo capacity, in real life, bites. The slope of the roof and the trim pieces that make it look so pretty are just in the way. It's also deceptively narrow, shallow and short. It looks like it can manage almost anything when, in reality, I've had to use my friend's '04 Subaru Legacy wagon to haul things that most normal people would have expected this CX-5 to manage easily. Now for the really bad stuff: The voice control is total garbage. It's almost like it has a mind of its own and purposely selects the wrong information. The navigation doesn't allow you to forecast out of state travel. I live in Portland, OR and do a good deal of driving in Vancouver, WA (literally a short bridge span away). If I have a destination in Vancouver, I have to wait until I enter Washington state airspace before the navigation system will locate anything. I have the BOSE sounds system, and it is AMAZING! However, there are different volume settings for the music function, the phone function and the navigation function. You can't just set one and forget it. So I can be listening to an amazing tune and then have to turn the sound UP to hear the phone conversation. Now for the REALLY big pain in my behind: The transmission: It's just like having a 1963 Ford Falcon with a manual transmission. Unless you come to a complete stop, that POS 6-speed automatic won't shift down into first gear. I have pulled away from stop signs rolling at 5 mph or less, and the car will not go lower than 2nd. If you're in traffic and need to get around someone quickly, you have to stomp your foot on the pedal and make sure that it connects with some little trigger on the floor before it will make any kind of attempt to accelerate. Otherwise, you're stuck in 3rd or 4th gear after 22 miles per hour and taking your life in your hands. If you're above 1,000 feet you can forget about passing anyone, EVER! You have to have the presence of mind to select 'Sport' well before you attempt to pass in order to get any kind of grunt and performance. The road noise isn't well controlled either, which becomes grinding after about an hour or so. I drove a stripped down KIA as a rental and you could hear a pin drop at 80 mph. To say I was disappointed was an understatement. Mine is a 2016.5 Touring with Moon roof and BOSE system. I paid just over $27k for it (Leased) and I'm turning it in after one year and just over 18k miles. I'll take the hit, pay the difference and UBER over to Ford where I have a shiny new Escape waiting for me. A 1.5L turbo 4-cylinder that will smoke that Mazda all day long and a ride that is compliant but capable. My foolish notion to give Mazda a chance has proven the critics correct. Many told me to look harder at the Escape. I wish I'd of listened. Take heed...buyer beware.

A few minor negatives
Overall I'm pleased with the vehicle. A few minor inconveniences are: 1. Speedometer is a dial not digital. Sometimes it's hard to see your exact speed. 2. The armrest is behind the driver and only a partial armrest. Not big enough to rest on. Other than that I love the vehicle especially the good gas mileage of approx 33 mpg driving country roads.
