2021 CX-30 Preferred trim, machine gray color w/blk 'leather'/dark brown wrap-around trim; purchased new in Nov. 2020 from Dealer; 2.5L non-turbo; add-ons...moon roof deflector, side window rain deflectors. Previously owned a new CX-7, then a new CX-5, loved them all, especially for their safety features which sold my Wife on. CX-30: I've read and seen all the reviews saying 'why bother with building this segment model' (mix of '3' and '5' models). For empty-nesters like us (I am 74,retired), it has been a good fit. Good mileage, adequate size. I can average 36mpg on the interstates w/o a 'lead foot'. In my case (strictly mine,I realize), I've only had the rear seats in the upright position twice since purchased and find plenty of space for everything we need to make any of our trips...lg,med, sml suitcases, beach chairs, tent, table, tripods, camera bags, emergency eqpt, etc. I fell in love with the style of this compact SUV! Have always enjoyed how Mazda handles the road...though the natural 'stiff' ride is more noticeable at my age. I appreciate the 'minimalist' design of cabin controls. Backup camera, heads-up display, blind spot warning on side mirrors, adaptive(on turns) headlights, sport mode are much appreciated. The auto emergency braking(AEB) works as it should...while driving in town, had a driver break his vehicle at last minute b4 making a turn...my CX-30 auto-applied brakes, saving my butt. I like the stop-and-go and adaptive cruise control when traveling on the kind of highways that have stop lights every half mile; and also in city traffic....no back and forth from brake to gas pedal. Negatives for me: - MINOR: large black plastic cladding outside trim (but it's a car-makers trend); newer models, high trim levels have matching color trim (I've seen). - Major: paint job (could be an exception): prone to chipping...perhaps I should have had a ceramic coating added - MINOR: position of front cup-holders; use of scratch-susceptible material around the center console - MAJOR: after retiring a year ago, and the car sitting for 3-4 days at a time, I had dead battery issues; then only making short trips, of course, did not fully-charge the battery. Dealer did replace battery and tested electrical system..no help. Having a usb hub plugged into the console cig-lighter port may not have helped, but I decided not to trust the battery. I purchased a cheap trickle-charger that installs under the hood (simple install) and ran power cord to the front grill area to conveniently keep it plugged in. I also will purchase a cheap battery monitor that is blue-tooth enabled so that I can get heads-up on status of battery from inside my house and not have to plug in the trickle-charger all the time. In summary, I will always recommend Mazda. I received nice compliments on my CX-7 and my CX-5 was very good. I may have lost some cargo room, but I’m a loving FAN of the -30 (5 of 5 for style). Looking forward to a new one in a couple years (just put new tires on this one)….or let’s just see what Mazda has to offer then 😉

A good choice for a subcompact SUV
I have owned this for 8 months now. Pros: Comfortable front seats, very good fuel economy (I have the non-turbo version). Cons: Rear visibility using the rear view mirror is limited. I removed all of the rear seat headrests which helped considerably. The body cladding is a personal taste and I find it to be very ugly. At first it is very easy to hit your head while entering or exiting the vehicle due to its low roofline. You adapt after hitting your head a few times. There is a rattle in the shroud surrounding the steering column that is very annoying. New vehicles shouldn't rattle. My 2013 VW Tiguan does not rattle. It rides rough with the tires at the recommended pressure (36psi). I lowered them to 33 psi on a recent trip and it was much better, except the TPMS light came on a few hours into the trip. I put the pressure back to 36psi and it has been fine since doing that. It would be nice if things remained off when turning them off . An example of that is the adaptive cruise control. If I turn it off it remains off only until I restart the vehicle. If there are features I don't want to use it is a major annoyance to have to disable them each time I start the vehicle. This is the first vehicle I've had with safety features and adaptive cruise control. It's great that the adaptive CC will adjust the CX30's speed to maintain a decent distance to the vehicle I'm following. What is not great is when a vehicle from another lane cuts in front of me and the brakes on my vehicle are applied rather hard. I've learned to keep my hand by the Cancel button of the CC so I can turn it off before that happens. I'm not sure if my brake lights come on when the CC decides to apply the brakes. It seems like a dangerous situation for me and the person following me. When I bought the vehicle in April of 2024 it had about 7350 miles on it. It now has about 13,500 miles on it and I haven't had any problems yet. Some aftermarket parts are hard to find, such as a cabin filter. I bought one off of amazon that was much cheaper than the OEM filter and it is doing its job. I'm OK with the smallish fuel tank.

Zoom, Zoom!
The added turbo in the 2021 CX-30 really puts the Zoom back in Mazda, front and center! Although the mpg performance (or lack there of) was not at the top of my must have list, it would have been welcomed.
