BMW couldn't make a car better for the money
I've just started commuting 50 miles a day, so I decided to trade in the 7 year old Dodge Stratus. While looking for one car to manage a commute, a car seat, and a yearning for my old 86' GTI, I drove my sister-in-laws Mazda 3s sedan. Great car, but not quite right with an automatic. I finally test drove a 3s wagon with a manual and fell in love. This is a better GTI than the current VW is! It makes no sacrifices in its pursuit of greatness. I bought my red one that same day. Test drive one asap. (But get financed first!).
Fun!
I bought this car to replace my '96 Pontiac Bonneville. This car was a huge improvement! Given, the interior wasn't quite as nice, but it was sporty, which was what I was looking for. The car is much more responsive than I would have expected and has an all around sporty feel. If you want a nice smooth, quiet ride, this car isn't for you. You can definitely feel the road (which I like), and it's a little loud inside, but it could very well be my tires. The suspension is superb, you can take 90 degree turns going 30 mph on a dime. If you get this car, make sure to get the manual! This is what makes it so much fun!

Great Fun Car
Gave my reliable '97 Ford Escort to a church and got a new Mazda3. It's lots of fun and feels great. I thought it was head and shoulders better than the 2006 Civic.
2nd Mazda 3
This is my 2nd Mazda 3 5 door. I traded my previous 2004 model that had 33,000 miles for a tricked out one. I thought the 2004 model was a nice ride, but the 2006 seems to be smoother and quieter. Plus the Grand Touring upgrade with Nav System is very nice. Options I would expect on more expensive cars.
Best of the Compact cars
I've had my car for a week now. Maybe I should have sprung a little more money for the leather and sunroof and Bose stereo, but that's OK. I'm trying to save some money anyway! Car has great power for a 4 cylinder. It pulls a hill on the freeway in my area in 5th gear at 60-65 no problem. Flat cornering, great steering, awesome shifter/clutch.
