Love-Hate Relationship with my RX 330

On the highway, the RX 330 drives like a dream, but in-town driving is a different story. The transmission is terrible when shifting from first to second gear; too much hesitation. The headlights have a blind spot in curves. I expected more at this price point.

Reliable "mature" SUV for road trips & snow

Purchased 5 months ago. When we buy, we research and focus on so-called "older" cars that are deemed reliable (by professional reviews and owners). Then we drive them for 10-15 years. A 16-year-old Lexus fits the bill. Luxury for a bargain. Not low mileage, but we trust Toyota and Lexus. Our other car is a Nissan Leaf; it will be used for nearly all of our city driving. Thus, the Lexus will be driven for about 1/4 of our total kilometres. We anticipate the Lexus will last us 10 years. So, my review comments are not based on long-term ownership. My comments are based on my research plus our short-term observations Positive: comfort, smooth handling, good turning radius, AWD for snow, solid reputation. I can sleep in the back of the car - good for brief camping trips with the dog. Good price; we appreciate that the 2 previous owners absorbed about 90% of the depreciation. Negative: Huge C-posts: poor rear viz. Cargo capacity is good, but limited by the slope of the tail-gate. Quirky transmission, many others have made this comment (still, I trust Lexus). The original sound system is acceptable but not great. Lexus gas milage is just so-so; however, annually, we won't use much gas because we'll drive the Nissan Leaf most of the time. OWNED THE CAR 30 MONTHS NOW. Quirky electronics. Dash-board lights up suggesting motor problems. Expensive repairs. One mechanic replaced the alternator. Because he had to disconnect the battery during that work, some of my electronics had to be re-programmed. For that, he charged me another $150 to resolve the problems created by changing the alternator. So, the next time I needed service and repairs, I took it to the Lexus dealer. (I sense they might know more about Lexus repairs.) Expensive. And, the dealer suggested I get more repairs -- $3,400 of them. Sheesh. I hope I don't come to regret buying the Lexus.

NIGHTMARE

My RX330 was in for service 4 times in the 1st month that I owned the vehicle. They are unable to fix the alignment and I have had 3 speakers replaced & another broken one. No one from Lexus would return a call until the 4th time that I called and demanded to speak with a real person. They said they would replace my car and then said something different. McGrath wouldn't take it back because they said it was used. They gave me a defective car but no one would help......until I contacted an attorney.

My wife bought this for me as a gift for my recent promotion; WOW! I couldn't ask for a better gift. Lexus has, once again, hit the nail on the head on the RX redesign, making a great SUV even better. I particularly like the upscale interior and the sporty exterior. The ride is super smooth, quiet, and surprisingly agile. I can't get over the extremely soft leather, the highly polished wood trim, and the little extras which make owning a Lexus special. I am extremely pleased with this car and would definitely recommend this vehicle to anyone reading this review.

Transmission is Dangerous

Do yourself a favor and read all of the boards on the web that discuss the awful and dangerous transmission. There are severe hesitations and failure to engage when accelerating. There are also reports at www.dot.gov of this problem. Just do a search on the vehicle.
