1000 problem free miles and lovin my Renny

I might not have the most miles in the world, but their problem free so far and I think that all that matter. More than problem free, I loving everything about my car! All the techs and spec and the design is just great and having it makes me so happy. Gas isn't the best, but it's still pretty good for an SUV, better than I expected for a Jeep actually.

It is what it is. A good daily commuter. Acceptable mpg. Keep your foot out of it drive below 65 and 32 to 35 on the highway. Quality great. The Italians did a good job of putting it together. Its not a grand Cherokee or wrangler. It is still a jeep and worthy of the name and reputation. It just keeps ticking along.

Major disappointment

Car bucks and jerks like you are riding a horse. The car is only 1 year old and has been back for service many times. The mechanic has just told me this is the best the car will ever ride. My husband and I have owned many cars over the years from inexpensive to higher end. Never has any of our cars driven this bad. First and last Jeep we will ever buy. We are at a loss for what to do.

Do not buy this car

I had very high hopes when I bought this car. I had a Liberty that I absolutely loved. I hoped that the Renegade would be a wonderful replacement for the Liberty. Pretty much the only good things I can say about it are the size (it has a great turn radius!) and the gas mileage. Unfortunately, I've already had to have the ignition completely replaced, they've adjusted the transmission more times than I can count and they dealership said they're just waiting for it to be recalled, it rattles as it goes down the road and I just had a tiny fender bender at less than ten miles an hour that completely destroyed the impact bar under the bumper. It didn't crack the bumper, but cracked a tiny grill in the bumper, which I took in to be replaced. When they took off the bumper, the impact bar was barely hanging on by a thread. They thought that I had been in a major accident and couldn't believe that the airbags didn't go off based on how the impact bar looked; I don't think I was even going ten miles an hour. Needless to say, I'm selling this car while it's still under warranty.

Big Disappointment

So I was excited to own my first jeep but after 3 months it became my worst nightmare. Was in the shop 8 times in 2 months. I finally just quit taking it. Opened a case with the manufacturer which was a joke. They blamed the issues on my usb port and told me not to use it. I told them it was a feature I paid for, I should be able to use everything and the lady kept saying you have Bluetooth, don't use the port this case is closed. The first problem that started at about 3000 miles was issues with the electronics. I would start the renegade and the screen would have an error message and not work. No Bluetooth, no radio nothing. Dealership did an upgrade, worked for 2 days and did it again. Then the doors would randomly lock and unlock while I was driving down the road. Took to dealership and they said I needed an oil change and that would fix the problem. Ummm no that makes no sense. I had to argue with them so they said well we cant duplicate the problem so we can't find anything. So I go to lunch, get in it and the screen is down with the error again, I drive to the dealership so they can see it. They schedule me to come back in a week and tell me they replaced some module. Next day, same crap again. Drive it a couple of weeks and the windshield wipers now start to come on randomly and I can't get them to stop. I drive it for a few more months and then the blinkers and dash screen just go blank, I'm trying to turn and I have no working signals! After owning the renegade for 18 months we went to another dealership and traded it and took a big loss on it. I only had 18000 miles on this vehicle and never in my life have had so many issues from a NEW vehicle. I loved my little jeep and cried when getting rid of it, but for my safety and the safety of grandchildren we felt it was best to just take the loss and get out from under it. Needless to say I lost $6000 on this vehicle that I had to put on top of the vehicle I just purchased. So disappointed in Jeep.

SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE HAS NO REVERSE/POOR SHIFTING

I bought my 2015 Jeep Renegade 4x4 brand new around 1K the vehicle started getting a kick when shifting into gear. Kicks when going up hills, has a skip to it when stopping the vehicle. Wheels lock up when coming to a complete stop when you try hitting the gas to move again. when the vehicle warms up and you go to back up I have no reverse/no power sometimes I got stuck in the middle of a road. Keep taking the vehicle to the local Jeep dealer all they do is tell me the computer needed to reset.

My car has been in the shop for over a month!

I'v had my 2015 Jeep Renegade for a little over a year now. I got out of work one day and the car wouldn't start. About 5 different warnings lights were on and I still have about 3,000 miles until my next oil change. Luckily I was still under warranty. At first they told me it was the computer and that I had to wait for the replacement. That wasn't the issue so next it was the radio. They had to reprogram both keys for the new radio. That didn't work so they had to get corporate involved and fly someone in from another state. Then they tell me it's the harness. They got that fix and then it's now my air bags. Now it's been over a month since my car has been in the shop. Not to mention, I was the one who had to call for updates on my car and not the service department. So I decided to call FCA North America LLC for Jeeps and the only thing they can do is refund 1 month of my car payment. What makes them think that the mechanic that wasn't able to find out what's going on with my car will be able to put my car back together! I'm very upset and disappointed with Jeep and their representatives. I will never buy another car under this manufracture and definitely do NOT recommend this car to anyone!

This car I great. I love driving it. It shifts a lot since it has a 9 speed trans but if you learn the feel it’s a great ride. I’m getting used to it’s gas usage and it shows how your driving correlates with how far you can go on the gas you have! Overall 9.5 out of 10!!!

Finally traded it as I could not risk owning it beyond the warranty. Problems were many, major, and constant. The first 20k miles was wonderful, then the shifting problems started. Sometimes subtle, sometimes harsh. I first noticed it when stopping at a light from highway speed I experienced a loud bang. I thought I had been rear ended. No, it was the transmission. Then there were hesitations and bangs, sometimes good sometimes not. The dealership said "performing as designed." They rode with me and witnessed the hesitation and rough transitions between gears. Again, "performing as designed," and " it's a Fiat, we can't re-engineer it." Finally the Jeep obliged me with a solid bang and kick in the rear with the service manager in the passenger seat. "Oh, you have a major problem." (No kidding, I've been telling you guys that for the last year and a half.) Replaced the valve body, ran smooth for a few weeks then the shifting quirks started again. Again the dealership said "performing as designed, its a Fiat and this is how Fiats run" they can't/won't fix it. Additional vehicle failures: Steering rack, engine and transmission mounts, fuel pump, radiator fan, front window seals came apart on both driver and passenger side, and then the usual ankle biters. The bottom line is that I cannot trust this car out of warranty, and even if I could, it rides as if being driven by a teen who hasn't quite figured the clutch out yet.

I gave a fully loaded trailhawk my sky roof panels navigation heated leather seats white with the black strip on the head, so excited when I first got it bought it with28k. This vehicle changes my settings every two weeks miles goes to kilometers the heat goes from Fahrenheit to Celsius now my check engine light is on the error code says it my thermostat is broken I have the oil change it says is my coolant was very low and I was down almost two quarts of oil. My Jeep isn't under warranty anymore I'm about 3 months over how does a vehicle with 32k need a thermostat replaced which cost 700 bucks, my buddy erased the code causing the check engine light to come on now I have a new problem when I get in to start this piece of junk my dash tells my key fob not detected. I'm going to unplug the battery and try to reset the computer for now, looking for another vehicle asap the problem with that is its only worth 14k I owe 19k what a joke and Chrysler now's it..

I loved the car when I first bought it four years ago. The mpg is great and things were smooth for the first year or so. I began to experience issues with the radio where it would just randomly go out and the screen would be black as well as the back up camera not working. Then came the mother of all issues in year 3 of owning the vehicle which was the faulty transmission. The car would jerk forward and come to a halt after I would accelerate from a rolling start. At first the problem was inconsistent then as time went on the issue has become a consistent problem when driving the car. I took the car to the dealership to get the issue repaired. They completed some type of software update and as soon as I drove off the lot the car jerked forward right into traffic. The service center had me waiting for 8 hours to fix this issue that wasn’t even corrected. I have done my research and found that the transmission is faulty and this is a manufacture issue but Jeep did not issue a recall. I advise people to purchase the later model Renegades and not the 2015 model.

We bought this new in 2015 and it has been a steady friend. Easy driving, good handling, GREAT turning radius, very capable in snow and rain - an all-around good deal. One fix required (broken electric window motor), and a few minor recalls (all handled in a timely fashion by our dealer). I wish this model year came with Apple CarPlay, other than that it is a very good value and very reliable - still getting 25-27 mpg average over city and highway.

Start with issues. Acceleration is jumpy, not smooth. Dashboard technology is quite impossible to Learn tech features. Design is almost identical to the Kia small SUV but okay with me. Good is, it corners like a roadster, 2.4 engine is quite peppy, Jeep grill is my favorite, To new to say much more. My ownership is less than 16000 miles.

First car in my life that I've hated!

Donna (Seattle, WA), 10/05/2016
2015 Jeep Renegade Limited 4dr SUV 4WD (2.4L 4cyl 9A)
3 of 9 people found this review helpful

I've bought plenty of cars in my life, never terribly expensive ones but ones that I thought were a good value while providing all the features I need. I thought the Jeep Renegade fell into that category. I bought my car in October 2015. I'm usually one to give things some time before making up my mind, so although I noticed some issues with the car right away I decided to give myself time to adjust to driving a different car than I'd been used to. I've had 4-cylinder cars in the past and liked them just fine, but this one is downright dangerous! The engine has such trouble shifting between gears that it hesitates between them, causing the car to almost come to a step when doing so. It also has very lethargic acceleration. On top of that, I've noticed that the steering wheel pulls to one side when trying to accelerate quickly to get into traffic, making it feel like I'm losing control of the car. This car has scared the daylights out of me many times for these reasons. I feel like I'm going to get into an accident every time I drive it. To make matters worse, the remote lock and security system is apparently very easy to exploit. Twice now the car has been broken into in front of my house, only yards from where I sleep, without the alarm going off. The car window isn't broken, so clearly someone has figured out how to override the security system and get in easily. I don't feel safe parking it in front of my house and I certainly can't leave anything in it. What a huge disappointment this car has turned out to be!

I loved this Jeep when I first bought it ,was perfect size for me the mileage was fantastic, I got compliments on it ,the inside was perfect for me. And then there's the transmission. When I first bought it I took it back to the dealership and ask him why it kept jerking all over the place when I took off from a stop sign. They explained to me it had a 9-speed transmission. I don't know how anyone else is Jeep works, but when I start off from a stop sign or a red light it completely jerks while it's going into the next speed .I'd say from 0 to 35 your jerked around at least four times trying to go through all those speeds , besides how cute it is and how economical it is,I'll put up with it... however it does not jerk around like that on the freeway, trying to get gas nozzle into the tank is a pain in the hind end, but I'll deal with it it's too cute is too economical and I love the Bluetooth phone pairing devices...yes..you can baa haa in this😋

I purchased the vehicle 8/1/15, I was super excited because the test drive was awesome. Forward 6 months later to the car shutting off while driving. I had the car towed to dealer and was told after looking car over could not find anything wrong. Another 6 months car shuts off again and towed to dealer. Dealership informs me it needs oil. I am confused since this is newer vehicle. Around same time I have a crack in my windshield. I call my insurance company whom put me in touch with a dealer for repair. I am told I need to be put on a wait list because there is an issue in the making of the windshields. At this point I call Chrysler and am told there is no back order on these and if change my claim to the car dealership they will send one right away. I immediately call my call dealer where I purchased the vehicle and am told the same thing about a wait list. They also informed they had someone that has been waiting almost 60 days already!!! I call Chrysler back and informed them what the dealership has told me and they repeat almost word for word what I was previously told, "there is no wait". Needless to say I waited the 60 days for my windshield. My next trip to the service department was for a terrible noise in the rear of the vehicle. I received a call letting me know the strut is bad and needs to be replaced, but this cannot be done since they need to order the part. A week later I am back to have the awful noise fixed. I call the dealer to inquire if the vehicle is ready and told at this point they replaced strut but it still makes noise. They will be keeping the vehicle and have a call into tech support at Chrysler. A full week later the car is ready to be picked up finally! I am told the noise was due to the rivets in the back of the vehicle coming "loose"?! Really! On to my latest adventure of the car shutting off while driving. This week was the 3rd tow to dealer for vehicle shutting of while driving. This time I am told I am 2 quarts of oil low and I quote" allowable oil consumption is 1 quart every 1000 miles. I should check oil every 500- 1000 miles. SO BUYER BEWARE BECAUSE I WAS NOT WARNED THAT THIS IS ACCEPTABLE PER MY DEALERSHIP...KEEP A CASE OF OIL IN YOUR RENEGADE BECAUSE YOU WILL NEED IT.

The renegade is average in many aspects. Tight back seat, plenty of minor issues with the key/starter, parking break etc. But one thing that stands out with it is the durability on impact. We were rear ended, we were stopped and a full size Chevy Silverado hit us at 45 mph, no breaking, no swerving. The driver of the truck admitted being distracted by his phone. We had our grandsons in the backseat, one of them was in a rear facing carseat. Long story short, all 5 passengers of the Renegade we're fine, no shattered glass injuries, the Jeep stood up to the test. The Jeep is totaled but the Chevy Silverado is too. The back hatch was crushed in all the way to the backseat, but none of the passengers were affected. Praise God! We could have been much worse off than a totaled vehicle.

I purchased this vehicle with 16k miles 4 months ago. In this time I have put 5k miles and in this time period I have brought my car in for repair 3 times. There seems to be an issue with the Turbo. The dealership never wants to tell me what the issue is until 2 days later leaving me without a car or a free rental. It does drive fine and is a comfortable vehicle but I dont plan on keeping it past the new car warranty limit. I just dont trust this car for a long run.

I read a lot of reviews that were mixed before I bought this car in February 2017. I liked it when I sat in it and drove it, and I wanted a manual 4x4 with decent fuel economy. This car has delivered. It's fun to drive. Has had zero problems for which to take it to the dealer. We get 27.3 mpg in mixed driving. 29-30 on highway going fast. The manual transmission is fun if you like driving manual. I put an after-market DVD/Rear Camera/Bluetooth with phone for 300 bucks into it. The only negatives are the need to put in premium gas and it is kind of expensive ($400) to put an after-market roof rack. An update 9/5/18 - still doing great. Windshield cracked from a rock. Replaced by safelite. My wife took the car from me and likes it a lot. We change the oil when the indicator tells us. 32000 miles now. I Rotate the tires when we change the oil, even though the manual doesn’t mention rotation. Its a great car. We lost one of the keys. It hasbeen 8 months and they still can’t get us a replacement key. That’s weird. We just have one set.

The Jeep Renegade from the 70s was my dream car as a kid. I was the first in-line when they brought back the name badge for the 2015 Jeep Renegade. I test drove the Sport, Latitude, Limited and Trailhawk (with and without the My Sky roof) and found that the Limited has the best of everything. It has all the off-road capabilities of the Trailhawk - proven on the Range Rover test track - and can hold its own with the Jeep Wrangler. The Renegade turning radius and compact size are beneficial as a practical winter months ride. It has great ground clearance and well insulated from road noise. The ride is still “Jeepish” but much smoother than the Wrangler (but not quite as comfortable as the Cherokee.) Have never been stuck in ice or snow with just leaving the setting on AUTO but have used the SNOW setting when intentionally drove into deep snow. I have never used the MUD setting, but looking forward to using the SAND setting this coming summer. I do wish Jeep had made the Trailhawk (or Deserthawk) with removable doors and, had an off-roading accessories catalogue for all the models. I also wish they would bring back newer models with the Sierra Blue exterior color. Otherwise, great little Jeep

Pros first: it’s a very cute little crossover, the “shortness” of it makes it easy to park in tight spaces such that you’ll find in LA. That’s about where the pros stop. Cons: computer and electrical problems abound. I had it in the shop 2 weeks after buying it brand new because the security system somehow thought I was trying to steal the car and it went dead on me. Sluggish transmission. If you don’t mind waiting what feels like eons for your car to move from reverse to drive after you’ve shifted, then more power to you. Strange jerking, very loud vibrations at stop lights, and even the service guys at the Jeep dealer told me that Renegades are rife with problems and are, essentially, junk. I traded in a Honda CR-V for this back in 2015, and regretted that trade in after about two months with the Renegade. I actually just traded it in for another CR-V last week and haven’t looked back.

First off I kept reading the reviews here, and most of the reviews are for the 2.4 automatic trnsmission, but yet it is supposed to be for the 1.4 T Manual. I purchased my1.4 T manual Rene brand new 5 yrs ago and would not trade it for the world. I love how it handles in all kinds of weather, I also enjoy taking it off road and testing its limits. Yes it is a stock Renegade with no mods, yes the approach is 2 inches lower than the Trailhawk, but the departure is the same,so just pay attention and you can have fun off roading

I bought a used 2015 jeep renegade latitude to commute to and from work. I had it for a year and about seven month ( from 55,000 miles to 65,000). I was in the shop for electrical issues. It was automatic but sometime the gears would have a hard thump between 2nd and 3rd gear when accelerating or slowing down. Some days it didn’t have it. Woke up one day and started hearing a weird noise and decided to give up. Didn’t feel like dealing with some other repair so I traded it in. It’s sad because I really liked it. It’s roomy, sporty, and the features were great.

This was my first car, and the one I learned how to drive on. I’m not gonna lie, she had some problems first, mostly with the battery, but since it was replaced, goes like a dream. Personally, the thing I love about my Limited Renegade is the voice. Bit sturdy and loud, but definitely enjoyable whilst accelerating. Does wonders off-road, too. Not the fastest car, that’s for sure, but I found it pretty reliable in the past 5 years. Definitely recommend the newer versions (I got the chance to drive a 2021 trailhawk renegade, and it was magical). Also, it’s a nice little subculture, coming across other Renegade drivers is always funny and exciting.

Bought in September of 2015 with 11 miles on it. Around 30k the dash graphic inverted. Black letters on white background and harder to read. Around 70k the serpentine belt broke. An accident hitting a large coyote on the interstate put it in the shop for 28 days (entire front end including what holds the radiator is plastic) *replaced broken driving light with non OEM and have intermittent error about parking light out but it's working)second serpentine belt went bad around 150k. BCM went out about 5k later. Currently no problems and still is full of oil after a 1600 mile road trip. Not that I know personally but I've heard you can't set the cruise control past 110mph. Update. Brakes and rotors finally changed after 168k miles. Those Mopar parts really lasted! Check engine light is on. Something about fuel pump or sensor. No notice on running or mileage so won't address it at this time.

For me, I don't know, engine blew with only 4400 miles and I had a oil change at 3000 miles, other than that, the jeep is okay. I don't think I would go this route again.

Needed to downsize from a pickup due to longer commute and this fit the bill. Nice commuter with light off-road capabilities. Not sure I'm going to go all out with it, but decent for backroads and most trails. Storage was a bummer and the transmission always seemed to be fighting me. Maybe it was just the trade off for better gas mileage. And the headlights seemed very dim regardless of bulbs used. Otherwise, was a decent little vehicle.

I have a 2015 Jeep Renegade SUV, 4WD, 4 door. I have had it since August, 2015, and have broken down twice in remote areas (mountains and beach). Although I was told by the dealer (from whom I have bought 4 Jeeps) that to buy the Roadside Service would be a good thing. It wasn't. Neither was the service from the Company (Jeep/Chrysler) nor the dealer (Atlantic Auto, Egg Harbor Township, NJ). Yesterday I spent 4 1/2 hours on the beach as I watched the tide get closer and closer to my Jeep. I was finally pulled out of the sand. I have had other instances where the service has been terrible. My last 5 vehicles were Jeeps (Liberty and Wrangler) but I will never buy another one and will never buy another vehicle from Atlantic Auto Group.
