Used 2012 Jeep Liberty Consumer Reviews
Good, lotsa “thank god I have a warranty” repairs
I bought my 2012 Liberty Sport new in October 2012. This is after the last one had rolled off the assembly line. It had been on the dealer’s lot for 4-5 months, and had only been test driven once, so it had 9 miles when I bought it. The dealer had ordered it with upgraded “trim” so it had factory tow package, moon roof, leather seats, and 18” alloy wheels. So it is mostly a Limited with a Sport nameplate. At the time of purchase, I bought a Chrysler Unlimited mileage warranty for about $2250. It is good that I did. Each covered repair costs me a $100 deductible (plus tax—this is Utah). I’ve had the heater core replaced twice—the second time required about four trips before they got it figured out (only one deductible, however); #1 valve spring broke, causing me to limp 60 miles from near the North Rim of Grand Canyon into Kanab, UT, and then tow it to my dealer 250 miles (I now have AAA). Then, the hinges on the rear glass “flip gate” rusted out. $80 each, so the deductible saved me a bit. Most recently, the head gasket blew out. Again, only $100 deductible. The overall cost of the repairs has been far more than the cost of the warranty. This has been my daily driver since it was new. In 2013, I bought a Casita fiberglass trailer (17’), and have towed it using an Andersen WDH. We get varying amounts of snow here in northeastern Utah, storms bring from 4” to 15”. The first four sets of tires lasted only 25K miles or less. The most recent sets have lasted about 50K miles. Gas mileage has improved from 19 mpg to about 21 since the head gasket repair. The Jeep now has 219,000 miles. It is still my daily driver, but I now tow with a 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport.

Nice looking vehicle!
I just bought a 2012 liberty trail model, 6 cyl. Repairs immediately upon purchase? The heater had to be back-washed to operate ok. Now the engine light is on. I am told it needs a smoke test to figure out if this will be a small repair or a big one. Did I purchase a lemon? Or hopefully the repair will be at a minimum costs. Or are these repairs indicating that I bought a lemon?
