CRD 2.8 first thoughts
Purchased on 2-14-2005. Drove to Alabama the next day. Seats are terrible. After 100 miles, it gets uncomfortable. 200 miles and you have to get out for a few minutes. Poor tires, Goodyear ST's. Those are the bad points. Overall, love the engine and most other things about this vehicle. It could use a deeper cargo area.
BUYER Beware!
I have had nothing but problems with my 2005 Jeep Liberty Diesel. I have been a gentlemen with people who really DO NOT CARE about my poor experience. I have had so many problems that I cannot get into it. I would be very careful about buying one as I would NOT want another person to go through what I have had to endure.

Needs a little more design work
A little tight after driving a Dodge Caravan for almost 6 years. Interior storage does not compare nor does console design. Brake and gas pedal are too close to each other, could easily depress gas while using brakes. Thirsty at the pump does not say enough.
TOO BAD, SO SAD ...
Bought my Liberty CRD brand new with 222 miles on it. Within one year, had two recalls where I was without vehicle for a week w/ no replacement. Replaced EGR valve and sensor after 2 years, now 1 1/2 years later, have to replace again. Very expensive fix and Chrysler and dealer won't do anything about it. Why buy brand new (or from Chrysler) if their vehicles constantly are in the shop? Regular maintenance, tires, brakes, etc. understandable, but these big ticket items are ridiculous! Never again. (Too bad, though. I was soooo excited to get this vehicle! Always a huge fan of Jeep and Dodge, but this has completely soured my taste for all things Chrysler).
Diesel Dilemmas
Lots of low end power and torque for climbing hills, when it is running ok. Has been in the shop 5 times in the 9 months that I have had the Liberty. Most of the time they reset or flash the computer and send you out down the road and then you're back the next day when the check engine light comes back on. Seems there is a defect in the EGR valve that either hangs open or leaks by causing the diesel motor to lurch on cruise. I think this problem will show up more as mileage on others increase.
