Diesel Dilemmas
Lots of low end power and torque for climbing hills, when it is running ok. Has been in the shop 5 times in the 9 months that I have had the Liberty. Most of the time they reset or flash the computer and send you out down the road and then you're back the next day when the check engine light comes back on. Seems there is a defect in the EGR valve that either hangs open or leaks by causing the diesel motor to lurch on cruise. I think this problem will show up more as mileage on others increase.
2005 Jeep Liberty Sport CRD
In garage two times for ERG. replaced second time @ 30,000 mi. I now have 83,000 mi and no problems. Get 22mpg all around and 26-33 mpg on hwy @`55- 65 mpg. I am extremely happy with my Liberty! If you can find a vehicle that gets this mileage and can tow 5000 lbs for the price (or, any price?) you better buy it and let me know what it is!

Should have known :(
Ok ... I love(d) my Liberty. I think it's decent looking, nice size, nice capabilities, practical for what I want in a vehicle. But lets be honest here... I only got it because it was a cheaper alternative to a Nissan Xterra. I was very happy with it, however, till about 10 months and 22,000 miles into owning it. I have had it in the shop 5 times since then and it still hasn't been fixed. It's turning into a nightmare and I am about to look into the Lemon Law. First it was blowing spark plugs, then it was going through fuel injectors, and now it needs a new head gasket ... with 31,000 miles. What kind of quality is that? And the dealership is giving me the runaround. Thanks Chrysler!
Lousy customer service
Dealer was unsympathetic to my plight. EGR valve and engine light. everyone had same problem with the Jeep CRD but the guys at the dealership acted like there was no problem. Dealer had jeep for a week before it was fixed. no loaner car. Jeep customer service was terrible. You roll the dice if you get the CRD. Glow plugs had to be replaced at 20,000 miles. Brakes wear out quickly just normal driving conditions. Jeep did not get behind the Liberty CRD.
Happy.......with a few quirks
In the over-all we love our liberty! Mpg's are not stellar but considering she's a go any where 4x4 and 5400 lbs., not bad! No Major problems but the factory specified routine maintenance costs a small fortune. Fun, safe, peppy (3.7l) comfortable and capable on road and off. One annoying rattle emanating from the rear swing- gate/Glass region with no resolution to the problem in sight, many liberty owners with the same complaint! Very maddening considering a 24k price tag! Maybe "it's a Jeep thing" haha. Other than that we're pleased, let's hope it has the longevity of the Honda crv that we chose it over! Long live the liberty!
