Used 2004 Jeep Liberty Consumer Reviews
DON'T BUY THE JEEP LIBERTY
MULTIPLE BRAKE PROBLEMS, SEVERE GRINDING AND CLUNKING NOISES. IN AND OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP FOR THIS PROBLEM. SEVERAL DEALERSHIP VISITS "COULD NOT REPEAT NOISE". ENTIRE BRAKES REPLACED TWICE. NOW A STB HAS STATED THAT A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM WILL NECESSITATE ROTOR REPLACEMENT, WHEN THE PARTS COME IN, HA! ALSO, HAD THE TRANSMISSION SEAL REPLACED. I HAVE HEARD ABOUT THE BALL JOINT RECALL, BUT I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM JEEP CONCERNING THIS MATTER.

Sluggish and Jerky
I love the look but hate the performance. At slow speeds it lurches when you step on the gas. Climbing and hill in goes to a higher gear instead of downshifting. At all other times, it is fun to drive and very comfortable. Looks good on the road. Even with the sound upgrade, the stereo is poor.
Jeep Liberty vs Ford Escape
As a dyed in the wool Ford guy, I was surprised when I recently traded in the 2001 Ford Escape for a 2004 Jeep Liberty. The comparison provided by Edmunds was right on, the Jeep has rugged but refined styling and out performs the Escape in all but a few areas. It has more HP, more torque, larger fuel tank and more creature comforts. My wife loves the steering column audio controls and I like the power passenger seat, none of which are available on the Escape. The EVIC (Electronic Vehicle Information Center), is a blast, this thing even monitors my tire pressure! Jeep has come a long way since the old days of the Comanche and the Wagoneer.
Wife loves it!
My wife bought this Jeep for work. She love it's quickness, handling, surprisingly decent gas mileage for a v6 its and maneuverability (turn radius). I would not recommend it for extremely long trips due to the short wheel base, keep trips to 100 miles or less. It has had a few recalls which our local dealership has been very quick at responding to. There is a little rust bubbling under the paint at the pop up Glass at rear door just under the third brake lite at the welding seam. It's covered again by jeeps 5 year 100,000 mile warranty. Wife says she will always own a Jeep.
