Used 2004 Jeep Liberty Consumer Reviews
GO LIBERTY!
When the Liberty first came out I was optimistic about its look and overtime it grew on me and I eventually took one for a test drive and feel in love with it. It has the fun and ruggedness of the wrangler and the luxury comfort of the grand cherokee. I have taken my liberty off road and I am much more impressed with its handeling than the wrangler , not to mention that it is much better on gas.
First and Last
This is my first Jeep and probably last. Terrible gas mileage and a maintenance nightmare if you have to work on it. Even changing the oil is a hassle. Check engine light is always coming on and going off.

Not Pleased
Front ball joints went bad causing excessive wear on new (expensive!) tires, power steering / crank case problems, split hoses, calipers locking up and wearing new brake pads down - black, sooty substance all over hubcaps from brake pad burn. Transmission (auto) sometimes slams into gear unexpectedly during stop & start traffic situations.
Nice vehicle
Took the Liberty over Xterra at my wife's insistence and I am pleasantly surprised. Braking is excellent with 4 wheel disc and no ABS, handling is fine, interior controls took a while to get used to but all within eay reach and intuitive. Easily slips into and out of 4WD. Better than rated gas mileage - I did a 50+ mile commute on a snowy day in 4WD the whole way and go better than 19 mpg. My only complaint is the short seat and I'm only 5'10".
fun to drive,
i bought the 6cyl. standard shift.it is easy and fun to drive.easy to get in and out.easy to clean the windshield.the rear glass and door openng is unique.plenty of room front and back.plenty of power,i just came back from towing my 3500# boat and trailer without any trouble.my ist fuel fill was 20mpg with local and highway driving.
