Not-So-Grand Cherokee

Frustrated Jeep Owner, 05/17/2021

I purchased a 2021 Grand Cherokee Limited in Oct. '20 to replace my wife's 100k+ Outback because I wanted to have a reliable car. Big mistake. Upon delivery it had a transmission fluid leak the dealer repaired under warranty. At just under 13,000 miles the fuel gauge went out. It's been at the dealership for 11 days and I have no idea when it will be repaired. They had to remove the gas tank to get to the sending unit. That required dropping the drive shaft. When the did that they learned that when the vehicle was made bolts holding the driveshaft were over-tightened and stripped the threads. The sending unit and bolt assembly were not in stock. Upon arrival and installation they learned that the mother board that controls the dash was also fried. Had to wait for parts again. Once that arrived and it was put together they learned some other part of the gas gauge system was also bad. That part is back ordered for about a month. They had me come pick up the car and drop off the loaner and said to drive it without a gas gauge. While driving home I noticed a strong vibration I could feel in the steering wheel and could hear that wasn't there before. I turned around and returned it and picked up the loaner again. I have no idea when it will be fixed and at this point I have very little confidence in this vehicle or the dealership. I regret buying it and wished I'd kept our 2014 Subaru Outback which ran flawlessly for over 100,000 miles. Update: I got one of those standard surveys from the dealership asking if I was completely satisfied with the service. I responded that I absolutely was not and the reason why. I was contacted by the Service Manager two hours later who provided a lot more information. Turns out when they tried to disconnect the driveshaft from the differential a bolt broke off in the differential and it couldn't be removed. That had to order a new differential which will take about a week to get shipped and installed. He apologized for the poor communication and seemed very sincere in wanting to make it right. We will see. It has now been just over a year and 25,000 miles since we accepted delivery of the Grand Cherokee. I'm happy to report that the back-ordered part finally arrived and the fuel gauge was repaired in July. There have been no problems since them and the Grand Cherokee is no longer the Not-So-Grand Cherokee. I've driven out of state several times and it's a great road car and averages about 24 mph which is good for a vehicle its size. Hopefully its problems are behind it and will provide several years of good service. It's now been over 2 years and almost 50,000 miles. There have been no more gremlins. It has been reliable and I'm pleased with the car. Three years and 68,000 miles. Had a repeat of the transmission fluid leak which was repaired under the extended warranty. Otherwise, it's been a reliable vehicle.

This is the second Grand Cherokee we have owned and it was a great vehicle until the “radio” as the service department prefers to refer to it stopped working. The problem is that this is not just the radio, but the interface to the entire vehicle. Without it the navigation does not work, nor does the back up camera, you cannot adjust the climate control, change any of the vehicle settings, and yes, play the radio. This is a known defect involving two class action lawsuits, but the dealer pretend like there is no issue, even though they admit to having to replace these Uconnect units for several years. Best of all, they say it’s only covered under the three year bumper to bumper warranty. They suggest the next “attempt” to solve the non-issue is to pay to replace the unit, but cannot confirm if the refurbished unit has been fixed or still has the same defect. If it were not for this sole problem I would give it five stars. But who could recommend a vehicle that the manufacturer will not stand behind?

Constant Problems

I have had my Grand Cherokee since April 2021 and have taken it to the dealer I purchased it from several times and left it for a week at another dealership. Because it doesn't "pop a code" I'm told they cant find anything wrong with it. The did reset the "learning" on the transmission and my problems still exist. The problem started about a month after I purchased it. It hesitates every time I drive it, especially when going below 25 MPH. It shifts hard and feels like it doesn't want to shift. This happens with or without the auto shutoff on. I am at my wits end with it because its just getting worse.

Overland 4x4, Select Train, and Ecopia tires?

So far, the vehicle feels solid. Interior finish is great, it’s loaded with great safety tech and Jeep quality off road capability. However, there’s a noticeable clicking noise from the engine bay like a timing belt is off, need to have it checked out. My biggest WTH is I bought an odd road Overland model with Quadra Trac II 4x4, Select Train management, and it comes with cheap Bridgestone Ecopia tires that aren’t designed for anything all terrain and have dangerous ratings for driving on snow/ice/slick surfaces. It’s awful buying a brand new $55K off road vehicle and immediately spending $1000 on decent all terrain tires.

Purchase my ‘21 GC approx 6 months ago. After a 20 year hiatus from Jeep products. I have had nothing but issues since the date of purchase. Interior trim coming loose, repeated electrical issues, had to replace the front axle! And am now dealing with intermittent stalling and rough idle. I truly cannot believe how horrible this car is.

2021 jeep grand cherokkee

Detailed review of brand new jeep grand cherokkee 2021. First of all nobody ever buy jeep brand. Because technologically and mechanically it is a crap. I bought 2021 jeep grand cherokkee on January 2021. After using 3 months had series of serious problems with it. Vehicle stopped in the middle of the road with undiagnosed issues. The dealer is still trying to figure out what is wrong with it for two weeks. next, I called consumer protection ontario and they told that jeep never going to replace your if your vehicle has serious issues even after 1 day purchase.. you will be screwed for sure. I called customer service department and the lady who spoke with me told the same... they don't care about the safety of the people and they only care about the money. If your jeep is not running next day after you purchase, they will never replace your vehicle because it is already mentioned under the terms and conditions.. the dealer won't tell any of those things when you purchase vehicle.. Now it is two weeks that I left my vehicle with dealer and they never called me or updated the status of the vehicle. I called chrysler canada and they don't either have a proper answer for what happened with my vehicle..I spent 78000 for this vehicle. So never buy jeep vehicles. Better stay away from jeep brand.. read the reviews first and select reliable brands..I will never ever recommend jeep to anyone at all..

Just purchased a 2021 Overland with 5.7L and 19 speaker audio. I thought the upgrade to a v8 would cause a rougher experience a la my 2015 SRT, which I'm keeping. But this car is incredibly smooth. Hard to notice its running. I previously had a 2014 Limited and a 2015 Limited both with V6s. I strongly recommend the V8. And, by the way, there's no stop-start with the V8. Apparently a 5.7L hemi is incompatible with stop-start. And this car has a sport mode. Not an SRT, but makes the whole driving experience a lot more fun. And manual shift option, but without paddles. Then there's the 19 speaker audio. You could just sit in the car and listen to music. It's that good. The car is just smooth, powerful and a joy to sit in. And there's a shift lever, which I understand is going the way of the dinosaurs. But where are you supposed to put your right hand? And, of course, not everyone's cup of tea, but there's no better looking SUV on the road.
