I recently purchased a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee 65th Anniversary Edition with the 4.7 Liter V8. I do a lot of highway driving an was instantly impressed with the Gas Mileage. I average 20, sometimes event 21/22 in a V8! (and i am a 23 yr old male, so believe me when i say i don't really baby it) The city gas mileage i average around 16/17, which is "ok". I mean it is a V8, cant expect a lot. I love the power the V8 offers, and the towing capabilities. The looks are sleek, and I always get compliments. I HATE the seat belt chime doesn't turn off. Overall I am really happy with the purchase, I have had it for about (2) months now and no real complaints so far.

This was my second Jeep. Our original was a 95 Grand Cherokee Limited. Ran great and saved my wife's life in a car accident. I figured I'd buy another jeep since we liked that one so much. BAD MOVE!! About a month after we bought the car we took it back to Chrysler due to stained seats from minimal rain water. We were told it wasn't covered under warrant. At about 6 months and 7,000 miles our car began shutting off for now reason. Turned off going 60 mph on the highway, took it to the dealership and they said there was nothing wrong with it. Since then we've had it in the shop 4 times for the same problem and they always say there's no problem. Also, car seats don't fit well. Not recommended

We have had few problems with our Jeep. We got it in May 2005. There is a recall on a part for the transmission so that was fixed but our check engine light kept coming on, and we barely drove our Jeep anywhere; it was a problem with the shifter. It was repaired after a few days, when they finally figured out what was wrong. I'm a stay at home mom so we barely drive it. I love driving it though I used to drive a Civic. What a difference. The only complaint is the trunk. I barely have room for a stroller let alone anything else.

I bought my Jeep as a demo with @ 6000 miles. I have 42,500 miles on it now and it's still under warranty until 75,000 or December 2011. I've been very happy with the comfort and reliability of this Jeep. Very few if any problems. The only thing disheartening is very poor gas mileage. Don't underestimate how much the gas will cost you. I'm seriously considering a 2007 BMW 335i series now and by my estimate I will save $100 month on gas, and pay only $15 more on insurance. It's hard for me to ignore. But I must say it's hard to think about possible maintenance on the BMW, when this vehicle has been so cost free and will cont. I'm hoping the ext warranty will help me to sell.

This 5.7 Liter Hemi really hauls! Unfortunately, this power does come at the expense of gas, where I average 12-14 MPG in mixed driving conditions. This might be more tolerable if the gas tank was larger. The engine is quiet and provides plenty of power, the transmission is smooth, suspension is excellent, road noise is inaudible (an improvement from earlier models), and off-road capabilities are unmatched for its class. This car is the perfect balance of power, refinement, and on and off road capabilities. Dependability will be determined; this has been a sore spot for Jeep in the past. Interior materials could be improved, plastic inside the car is abundant and cheap looking.

Been very reliable. Had one warranty claim. Gas mileage has been good for its size average 18 city, 22 hwy. Mine is v-6 2wd so it will be the the best of all of the models. Has 45,000 miles now. not a squeak or rattle. Just as tight as the day I bought it.

I leased this vehicle for the fact of always wanting a jeep. After 5 months I wanted out of the lease. Poor gas mileage, small interior room, poor build quality. I guess this is a testament to the outgoing Chrysler owners. The truck had 2 transmission problems in the time I had it and 2 rear window issues. Loved to have a truck and 4WD. Needless to say i am a Very Happy Honda 2010 Pilot Owner now.

2nd Jeep 05 and 06

My 2005 was a lemon. I was given a $5000 settlement from Jeep. The transmission kept blowing pumps and it had a vibration even after the recall on the torque converter, 3 converters and a transmission rebuild. I took the money and traded it in on a 06. So far the 06 does not have the problems the 05 had, but on the 05 it started with 16,000 miles. In the first 6,000 miles on this Jeep it has been fine. Jeep sales depreciates pretty quickly due to many of the incentives and a lot of Jeeps at the auctions that come off lease ruin the market. So if you’re buying a Jeep make sure you aren't in a hurry to sell, just run it into the ground.

I bought my vehicle (used) in November of 2007. It has only been 8 months and I have had it in the shop 4 times already! 1st with the radio and heater, 2nd with the transmission, 3rd time with the transmission AGAIN, and now it's the a/c and shocks. I WILL NEVER IN MY LIFE PURCHASE ANOTHER JEEP. I have had nothing but trouble. And the gas mileage is even worse. I only average 15.3 HWY! Now I'm stuck with this piece of garbage for 5 years!!!

I bought this Jeep a few months ago and have had NOTHING but problems with it! I would be driving down the road and the jeep would just shut off. The next day it wouldn't speed up over 10 miles an hour. I have had it in the shop 3 times in 3 months! Chrysler keeps telling me they can't find anything wrong with it. Yeah, right they can't. I will NEVER buy another jeep again.

I traded in a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with 130k miles. I looked at Lexus SUV, Cadillac and 4 Runner. None of them compared to the Jeep. Rugged, as always, but very refined compared to older Jeeps. Variable displacement is crucial. A big improvement from my old Jeep. Extremely fun to drive. If you are worried about fuel economy, buy a car. If you are looking for a class ride with a whole lot of muscle, drive this beast!

I purchased this Jeep, never owning an SUV before. It runs great, has been incredibly reliable, and I haven't had any issues with it. I'm surprised at how great of a car it has been. The only thing, as with all suvs, is the gas mileage. It's good for an SUV, but it's not a Honda Civic. Overall it has been a great vehicle.

And this is from somebody who has only owned Jeep products and going back to 1993. Mine is an 06 Hemi Limited with 29,000 miles now. 2nd day I owned it had to be towed away on a flat bed. The electronic throttle control went out. At 17,000 miles both differentials needed to be rebuilt. Drive shafts replaced for vibrations, memory seat work when it wants to. Passenger side window wont go up without a fight sometimes (window regulator) Engine ticks, transmission clunks, cannot be driven at 65 mph since the tranny cant make up its mind. The dealerships are complete scum and constantly try to get out of warranty work. You must fight them on everything. $44,000 msrp and now worth $15K

This car has been in the shop for shutting off while driving multiple times, rubbing noises when braking, windows not working properly, mirror has to be replaced, car still stutters periodically, manual locks had to be fixed. Until reprogrammed, car would stall when you hit a bump. Would NEVER buy another jeep. Horrible investment. Check resale value before purchasing.

I have a love/hate relationship with my Jeep. I love the style, comfort, and features. But the reliability of this vehicle is extremely disappointing. I do drive quite a bit, but there have been so many things break on this Jeep that should not go bad. Starters, ball bearings, water pumps, and hoses... I can't afford to keep this Jeep. It's always twice as much to service and fix than anything else.

Good price among same category SUVs available having many more features for the same price as competitors. Has nice handling in curves thanks to ESP and electronic transmission control. Descent sound quality and air conditioning unit. Center rear view mirror auto dimming is definitely a plus. Transmission is jumpy and kicks from time to time. Interior finishes are kind of mediocre and unfortunately there are noises from the trunk's posts plastic covers and in the front console

I've been looking for a SUV for the past 4 months or so. I really liked the H3 but realized that it may not be the most practical. I like styling in a vehicle and I'm tired of spending top dollar for foreign car parts and service. I looked at the H3, Nissan, and Toyota. The Jeep seemed like the best choice. So far I have been pleased. I've seen others complain about the cheap plastics. While I agree to some degree, it does have style to it. The car was designed to be an off road vehicle while still delivering great on road performance. It rides that tight rope very well. On top of it all, I got mine for a song, $22,500 out the door (with rebates). At this price, it can't beat!

This is my 4th grand Cherokee and will definitely be my last although it is a big improvement over the 2000 I had before. I have the 65th Anniversary with the 3.7L V-6. It's a much more refined ride over the 2000 Laredo I had. 31,000 miles and the brakes have already had to be re-done 3 times, and the 30k mile service cost me about $900 after taxes...OUCH! Fuel mileage on the highway is 19- 20mpg and in the city is 14-15. My wife's Tahoe gets better and has better room and power. Had a transmission leak at 14k miles (fixed under warranty). Mine has been in the shop 7 times (brakes, transmission, electrical problems (the door locks wouldn't work) The dealer does a good job but is $$$$

This is my 5th Jeep since 1998. 3 Laredos, 1 Liberty, and now Grand Cherokee Limited with the Hemi. Love it! Tested Lexus 400H and Nissan Murano, but came back. Really feel secure in this vehicle when driving down the road. Heavy, smooth. I am 5'2", 95lbs, and can see (slight blind spots in back like all my Cherokees) and reach everything. Love the satellite radio, auto high beam, window wiper sensors. After the Liberty, which still have, love how the wind doesn't push me around in this vehicle. Drive 500 miles to and from work every week and this makes it really enjoyable. Can't believe the compliments from co-workers in the parking lot.

I have had Jeeps for many years and have learned to love the quirks (e.g. wandering on highway, bouncy ride, poor MPG, noisy, etc.). I recently bought an 06 base model Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 and have been pleasantly surprised given that I had very low expectations as far as performance, ride, MPG, etc. The car is a pleasure to drive. For my current needs I saw no need for the 4.7 or Hemi engine since I will not be doing any heavy towing or rough off-road driving. The one concern that I have is that the city MPG is currently awful. I only have 3,000 miles and hope that it improves with break in and gets closer to the estimate of 17.

After driving the 1997 Grand Cherokee with the 4.0L 6cyl. for several years the 2006 does not disappoint. The 4.7 has plenty of power and is smooth as silk in either light to light driving or at highway speeds. The only down side is that it is a bit harder to see out of than the 97 but large side view mirrors help. Also the adjustable pedals are great for keeping the shorter people in your life well back from the airbags which is a huge piece of mind for me.

Prior to this SUV, I had a Chrysler Sebring LXI. I really needed an SUV for my new baby (born in May). I've been pretty satisfied with it until my air bag light started going on. I was about 100 miles before my 6000 mile service and today took it to the dealer at 6100 miles. They said no code was recorded and that the system would be reset. Guess what, not even 1/2 mile down the road and the light comes back on. Went back to the dealer (with my 5 month old baby) and they tell me no code again. I've been researching all night and found that this has been happening since 1998. Can't Jeep fix this? I'm worried about the future. I need reliability! Saw that '02 models are having window problems. Yikes!

This is one of a few vehicles that offer an electronic limited slip front/center/rear. Other vehicles like the H1 and the Range Rover offer this type of four wheel drive system and both of them cost over $100,000.00. I love my Grand Cherokee Limited with the 5.7L Hemi. I have changed the exhaust to a 3" Magna Flow and put an inexpensive Cold Air Intake on it. I can run a 15.68 second quarter mile time and the thing weighs 5200 lbs with me in it. That is awesome. The road grip is second to none hands down. I have been in school 210 miles from home and had to drive it home on weekends this past winter and had no issues, even with 6" of snow on the Highway.

My 2005 Jeep Cherokee Limited 5.7L with chrome rims, back-up sensors, back seat entertainment, satellite radio and 7500 lb. tow package has proven to be great fun to drive, comfortable for my passengers, and eye catching. The separate climate controls with duel infrared sensor works very well creating two separate environment. The MDS 5.7L engine mileage is 13 to 19mpg with smooth power delivery to all four tires. The tire pressure monitors (also in the spare) is comforting because Jeep displays the pressure for each tire right on the instrument panel. Jeep has integrated Bluetooth, CD, DVD, Sat Radio, and GPS on a single intranet bus. The IgKey is a small computer. It is my work horse.

This is our 3rd Grand Cherokee that we've leased. This 2006 Jeep is a huge improvement from our 1997 and 2000 Grand Cherokees. My kids said that our new Jeep rides better then my 2005 Nissan Maxima, which I only drive on nice days. Big improvement on engine and transmission, however the 3.7 liter is a bit sluggish around hilly areas. The handling is also greatly improved. No more leaning when going through the corners.

Averaging 21 mpg on highway -- very pleased with that. Our Jeep is very easy to slip into -- not like other SUV's we looked at. We don't need running boards or a ladder to get in to our Jeep. Ride is perfectly acceptable -- quite smooth in fact. Heated seats do not cycle on and off in the heat mode -- steady warmth -- nice here in Wisconsin. Killer stereo system! We were very happy to find ours with every option imaginable expect for a sunroof which we did not want anyway.

Who would think of a 6 cylinder Grand Cherokee as being fun to drive? I thought that the most stripped down Grand Cherokee would never be considered a sporty vehicle, but I was wrong. My GC is the Laredo model that came with only 3 options, full time 4-wheel drive, Qradra-Track II transfer case and luggage rack. It pulls strong away from stoplights and seems very stable on switchback roads. The gas mileage is fair averaging about 16 MPG overall in mostly city driving. Although the car is only rated to pull 3500 lbs., it has no trouble pulling my tandem axle trailer with my John Deere compact tractor and attachments aboard. Overall, I have been very pleased with my vehicle.

I purchased this in July with 22k on it and loved it from the get go with only a few reservations, first:the dealership never did give me the 500 dollar gas card I was promised so that soured the experience somewhat. Also the radio went haywire after a few months and the passenger window has a mind of its own at times, the local dealer (not where I bought it) has been great with warranty work though. I would like to have them put the manual control for the 4wd back though as I prefer to decide when this is on. Handles well, drives like a car! Gas mileage is abysmal for a v6... I average 19 or so.

Have had the rig about a month. Traded in a Ford F150 Crew Cab which I hated from the day I drove it home. Jeep is fantastic in almost every aspect except fuel economy around town. Plenty of power and handles like a dream in the snow and ice. Great seat heaters. Great sound system. Turns on a dime. Got the inferno red which generates lots of compliments. Worth the $200 extra. Very quiet ride. Puny cargo space.

I bought my car in 2007. I was excited about getting an American vehicle instead of an Asian car. But after having some minor problems, I learned that it was very much expensive to keep up with the replacement of this vehicle as oppose to an Asian vehicle. My warranty stinks. My navigation had problems, and when I took it to the dealer, they made me pay them $100 just to tell me that I had to buy the new CD to replace my navigation. I was pissed off about that. Another thing was the back middle seat belt got stuck, and wouldn't pull down. The dealer did not cover for that either. Overall, the dealer warranty stinks! I pay an additional $40.00 per month for warranty for nothing!

Had no issues first few years in MD. Moved to a year-round warm weather area. Tube that carries fluid from front to back windshield washer busted and water leaked from the column onto the driver side interior. Fixed by dealership, but not under mile one warranty. As another reader posted, engine was revving and all the gear displays were lighting up at once. It was the shifter computer or something. Fixed by dealership, under mileone warranty. About 250 out of pocket w/ deductible.

I purchased this Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 3.7 V6 on August 10th. 2006. I can not find a single thing wrong with this fine vehicle, nothing. It's solidly built, quite, and smooth riding.

Overall one of the best SUVs you can get. Many options and styles to fit any need. Gripes -- plastic interior looks good but very hard and cheap to the touch. Leather seats have more vinyl than than leather. MPG should be better. Drivers power seat is too high.

This is a gas hog in city driving and I drive it as gently as possible! Good MPG on the hwy at steady speed. Rear window and rear pillars too thick, blind spots. Tire pressure monitoring system comes on in cold weather for no reason. Interior finished with plastic, plastic and more hard plastic. Too much interference from traction control on icy streets, impossible to turn if off completely.

This is my second jeep ( had a 2004 ) And i really like this car. Have had a few minor problems that chrysler took care of... i had the emergency break cord unhook and it was making a horrible noise under the car as if the muffler was dragging.. they had to replace something on the transmission and shifter column because it would decelerate for no reason.. all was fixed though by the company... Overall the GC seems really safe for my family .. It's got very solid handling and to maneuver this car is so easy! driving it has been really fun!

Best Car I've Ever Owned

Let me be the first to say that I was not keen on the Grand Cherokee at first. I was a dyed in the wool “true Jeep” fan and was not interested in a “Chrysler” Jeep. My previous two vehicles were a 1989 Jeep Cherokee and a 1997 Jeep Cherokee, both of the original AMC design. It was about time to replace my Cherokee when I went on a business trip and ended up with the new Grand Cherokee as a rental and was immediately impressed. So when I got home, I purchased a base model Laredo with a V-6 and have been very happy. Lots of features on the base model and find the gas mileage and pick-up to be very impressive. Great on long trips. Still feels solid after 24,000 miles. No Rattles!

Good looks...bad ride

Really like the looks of the Jeep, but BIG disappointment with the ride. Not very smooth and seems to "wobble & shimmy" on the road...worse when you are on open highway and very windy. Wish I had had a better test drive, would have thought twice about buying. Looking to trade now!

Purchased This jeep off a lease with with 24k on it was hoping to get at least 18 to 20 mpg on the highway, best I've gotten is 16.9 average and now it has dropped to 14.7 mpg, also wouldn't shift into reverse right away sometimes. Dealer said it was some kind of faulty shift mod, and supposedly replaced but it still acting up, Just had it in for oil change and noticed the transmission pan was all wet with fluid but we couldn't tell exactly where it was coming from maybe a bead seal on the pan, I have my eye on it. overall I love to drive the jeep.

LOVE MY JEEP

The Jeep I purchased was with the Limited 5.7L V8 HEMI option. I love the vehicle, this is the 2nd Jeep I have owned. I owned a 1995 Jeep Laredo which I traded in after 9 years, and now am in love with the Jeep Limited. It is a lot of fun to drive, there is a lot of power in this vehicle and the interior is very comfortable and the options are outstanding. I definitely recommend the Jeep SUV and will probably not own any other brand of SUV. I'll be on #3 in another 9 years (or less) hopefully. Jeep makes an awesome vehicle, my husband is on his 2nd Jeep also.

Jeep owners have long enjoyed a special relationship with their vehicles. Unless and until you own one it's hard to imagine getting excited over a car, especially if you don't consider yourself a "car person." At the urging of my wife, I decided to give an SUV a try. I couldn't be any happier; JEEP has definitely got it going. The comfort level is excellent on short or long drives. The rigid ride takes some getting use to, but only adds to the overall experience. Navigation is a bit clunky, but well worth it. I was amazed at the performance of the 4WD and put it to the test with back to back 24" snow falls; child's play. 21 MPG hwy, not bad. Reliable, zero problems. JEEP. I Get it Now!

Don't buy-transmission problems

Good looking vehicle. Has many mechanical issues. Transmission is crap. Mine went out at 41000 and I had problems getting Chrysler to fix it. There is something horribly wrong when a vehicle has 41000 miles on it and the transmission fails. Don't buy. Cheaply built. I traded for a Honda.
