Jeeps got to love them
This is the most powerful Jeep I have owned to date. I have owned a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and a 1995 Jeep Cherokee Country also. I still own the 95 as an extra car. It is pushing 99,000 miles and is still in mint condition. The 99 Jeep shows great improvement over previous models. Plus it is so much faster and more powerful then also all the other SUVs I have driven(excluding the BMW X5 4.4i and 4.6i).
luke
At 57000 miles I had to repair the front gear box at 950.00 dollars. At 68000 miles I had to repair the back gear box at 950.00 dollars. Was not to happy. And two sets of front rotors in.

There really is only one Jeep!
This is what I consider to be the best looking SUV on the market. My GC offers the perfect mix of style, practicality and is a joy to drive! I feel it's what a premium SUV should be.
EXCELLENT
VEHICLE HAS BEEN EXTREMELY RELIABLE TRACTION IS SUPERIOR COMFORT SUPERIOR SOUND SYSTEM - INFINITY GOLD IS SUPERB 10 CD HOLDER HAS WORKED SUPERBLY I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS SUV TO FRIENDS. I LOOK FORWARD TO OWNING THIS VEHICLE FOR 10 YEARS. VEHICLE IS SERVICED LOCALLY BY WARNOCK IN EAST HANOVER, NEW JERSEY.
very solid
I have owned this Jeep (2WD GC Laredo) since it was new. Had a few issues - replaced fuel pump seal twice (once under warranty), replaced oxygen sensor. Fun to drive. Has 84k miles now, still solid. Has almost always had a "double-clutch" feel up-shifting from 2nd to 3rd under load, but never gotten worse. I am very pleased with my Jeep.
Too many shop visits
I've had more problems with this vehicle. The a/c went out. I've replaced 3 sets of front brake rotors, new front axles. Now it's making a loud noise in the front end when you get to about 20 MPH and up. The dealer told me it was the transfer case. Someone else told me it's the front differential. The door locks failed. I'm getting rid of this one and won't buy another.
My love/hate relationship
Bought 14months ago with 37000 miles. Lots of trouble. Replaced front brakes twice. Replaced relay switch in fan. Repaired A/C, Replaced stereo, Repaired transmission leak, Replaced rear end. Jeep does not stand by their product. This was my dream vehicle but turned into a nightmare. Don't even consider buying this year and model Jeep.
Everything is great except powertrain
This has really been an excellent car, except for the recent transmission problems Im having now. This SUV drives smoother, has better interior, and more power than even some of the V8's in its class (Ford, Nissan, Toyota, etc). But the transmissions are notorious for going bad soon after 50K (Im one of the unlucky ones). It slips when shifting between 2nd gear and drive...it either hesitates between gears, or wont shift out of 2nd until the rpm's are way high. The new tranny is costing me $3000. If you notice any weird sounds or shifting behavior...dont delay...take it in asap.
jeeps r fun
i've enjoyed my jeep. we've had 2 grand jeep cherokee's with v8's. only had problems with the brake rotors. otherwise, good stuff.
Jeep
My husband and I have enjoyed this Jeep, but we're glad the lease is up. We tried to sell this vehicle and got *no* hits (probably because it was devalued by the dealerships with all the 0% APR). No real probs, but it did stall in the middle of a hip-high river once, while an old chevy and even a Suzuki Samuri made it through no prob. We had to be towed over 12 miles. Through the desert. Pushing down on the gas to pass, a half-second wait for power??
Good looking jeep, Exc. design & perform
Exc. design & performance
Good once it's fixed
I have the usual brake shimmy and a little drivetrain noise but other than that, after 63000 miles it's working well after 7000 dollars worth of waranty repair. If Jeep can get this one right the first time, it's an awesome purchase. Don't count on MOPAR to get it right the first time though. They just don't have the track record.
Junk
Awful! 60,000 miles and the brake system (pads, calipers and rotors) replaced twice; rear differential & axle replaced twice (under warranty fortunately); transmission replaced once. $35,000 cars should not fall apart like this. Partially my fault- should not have trusted claims that quality of American cars had improved. I love America but will never purchase American designed/built auto again.
no more rotors
I love the look of this SUV and i guess that is what got me into trouble. Did not research the mechanics as I will on my next purchase. The brakes are a complete nightmare, pads and rotors replaced 4 times and starting to SHAKE again(all you Jeep owners know what I mean). My fan needs replacing, car overheats when not in motion:( Nice looking and fairly comfortable!
Great car - on or off road!
This has been a great family car for a very active family. My kids are now teanagers and we bought this car to replace the minivan. We take it off road camping, drive in deep snow, rain, and have driven accross the country. I still like it five years later! Very little has gone wrong with it. Electric lock on the back hatch failed and weatherstripping on one door came loose. It's a heavy car, so breaks don't last as long as on a sedan. The 6 cyl. has all the power you need. The interior is a little tight for four people with gear on trips, but so much of the driving happens around town I couldn't see buying a larger SUV with a V8.
nice ride
I have had my Jeep for about a year now and although i have seen people on here dog them, i have been nothing but happy. I have almost 60000.00 on the jeep and still havent had to replace the brakes. The stereo is nice. My wife loves the heated leather seats. V8 has some good low end power. I had my friend look at the brakes and he says they look good.
It's a Jeep!
Well I've had to replace the ignition cylinder. The driver door power lock is acting up, and at 61,000 miles had to replace the engine (4.0). Thankfully it was covered under the extended warranty. Rear diff is noisy. They get you with style over reliability, but that should be well known by now.
Reliability
I suggest that if you buy a Jeep, you also buy an extended warranty. I paid around 1,500 for my warranty and within the last 2 years, my differential went, door locks went, etc... Total repair costs covered by the warranty are approx $3,000. The best thing is that the warranty has another 3 years to it. I will be sure to sell it before it expires.
Good performance and looks. Cheap used.
I bought this 8 cyl. Jeep at three years old, 29k miles, for just over half its original price (paid $18k), after deciding that $40k was too much for new. Original buyer's depreciaion loss was my gain. I couldn't be more pleased, even if I'd bought it new. My wife loves the looks and power around town with our children. It handles great in snow and ice, is comfortable on long drives, and has performed admirably in light off-road use (fishing, hunting, camping). We had to replace a transmission sensor to fix hard shifting ($150), as well as replace the stereo (covered under the extended warranty). Starting to get a little brake pulsing at 50k miles.
Jeep - it's the snow
The best ride in snow on the market. Long drives are a joy, no fatigue.
Dont buy a jeep
When i bought the jeep, i was pretty stupid and fell in love with the looks. one of the dumbest things i have done. I have taken the jeep in over 15 times and still i have problems. the quality is so bad that you must have alot of money in the bank just to fix the repairs. such as the ball joints, transmistion, speakers and breaks. I will never buy an american made car again. look at somthing else!
It's a Jeep
Great off road and winter driving vehicle. Have a 100,000 miles on it and very satisified with overall performance, reliability and looks. Brakes were initially a nightmare with front rotors and pads changed three times (once covered under warranty). Cruise control out twice. PCM went bad at 74000. If you buy one of these vehicles, I recommend you get extended warranty.
Jeep = Worst Junk Car
It is such a junk car!!! Since I bought it, I have kept getting back to dealer for repairing, radio noise, gas tank leak, window noise, power window not working, power seat not moving, door can not be unlocked, engine check light on, so on........If any one wants a reliable car, never look at the Jeep!!!! Take the lesson from me! But you like the fancy functions and don't care to visit Jeep car dealer for fixing "small problems" once a month, go ahead for it.
Thw worst vehicle $30K can buy you
From the day I got this vehicle, it has been one thing or another. It just seemed like everything was falling apart inside-out. Considering I traded in a Honda Accord to get this Jeep, made me feel like a loser even more. Current list of problems - broken transfer case, break system failure, suspensions need replacement, steering wheel alignment, power windows dont work. As you may have guessed, all of this starter happening right after the warranty expired.
I love my Jeep....except
I bought my Jeep used with 35,000 mi. I test drove 2, and the other one had more pep (both were V8's). I now have 69,000 mi and the brakes have "hot spots" that cause the front end to shake. Suggestion is to upgrade to racing rotors ($$$). The radiator still leaks after being replaced. The turning radius is poor, and on hard turns it makes an awful noise. Truck looks great though! Cargo space is good. Needs shoulder belts for middle rear seat; only accomodates 2 children in booster seats. Mileage averages about 16. Thinking of upgrading to Durango to get extra seating with similar style and mileage. Audio controls on steering wheel are fun. Even with the problems, I will still miss my truck.
I love my Jeep
My '99 Jeep looks and feels brand new. The only problem I have is with the wheel bearings - the front have gone bad. Everything else has been wonderful. My next car will be another Jeep.
It is an a tough SUV
Have had problems but it is a great suv. GREAT POWER!!!!!! comfortable and stylish. Problems-brakes,rear bearings, and starting. it is 1000 times better then my buddy's explorer. but no bmw.
Will someone blow my Jeep up?
I'll highlight some of my favorite repairs. $300 - Front calipers rotors. $900 Rear bearings. $150 fuel pump regulator something or another. Anyone know why the steering wheel moans when you turn it? Is there supposed to be water inside the headlight assembly? Ok, why won't the cruise control engage? I love the fact that the HVAC control doesn't work anymore. Its stuck in the defrost mode! Looks like I'm going to buy a 4runner. Oh, the gas shocks that hold the hood up...they don't like the cold, so make sure conditions are ideal the next time you need to check under the hood, or else you will find yourself literally "under the hood".
99 jeep gr cherokee
i Love this truck ill never own anything but a jeep
Love my Jeep
If you're looking to get into a Jeep, the new (1999 and up) body style is sharp, and these vehicles are GREAT in bad weather. I use mine to haul computer parts, car parts, and even X- Mas Trees. The first year I had it I actually tried to do snow donuts, no luck. Get the I-6 engine, VERY reliable, will run forever!
Nice Truck!
I purchased this vehicle with 50,000 miles and 13000 miles later, I have no major complaints. It rides nice and the air is amazing...a very high quality to have for a Florida driver. I have had a few minor problems that have been outrageously expensive to repair, and the gas mileage could be much better (about 15mpg in town), but I should have known what to expect when switching from a little Lebaron to a 4X4 SUV. Overall, I would buy another Jeep and would recommend them to anyone interested in a decent SUV for a low price. The 4X4 is the excellent quality that is typical of a Jeep. Glides through Florida sugar sand like it's on asphalt and leaps right out of a 2WD hole.
Stay away from the 1999 JGC
The power train is great. Everything else stinks. The first week I had it, I had it in the shop 4 times. Service is poor and in the 3 years I have had it, I have had it in the shop 30 times. Anything from the brakes (twice) to the sunroof. Do not buy. The problems were fixed in 2000, but I would not take that chance again.
Great SUV for the money
Bought the Jeep Grand Cherokee with 80,000 and have been totally happy with the vehicle. Even at 6 years and 80K it looks and drives like new. Lots of power and still gets 25 MPG on the highway. Turns more heads than any other $9,000 vehicle I know of.
Great SUV
My Limited has been a pleasure to own. The brake problem is the only dissappointment. Chrysler should take responsibility for their poor brake design. Other than the brakes the vehicle has been totally trouble free.
Brakes/Rotors
Great vehicle except for the brakes/rotors. I brake very smoothly, yet I have to replace my rotors annually. I will look at other models next time if Jeep can't fix this simple problem.
JGC Brakes break my heart
With 80K miles on my '99 JGC I'm now looking at my 5th front end brake job. Warped rotors have been turned, turned again, and replaced with after-market rotors. Still going bad after just a few thousand miles. Otherwise, it's been a fun vehicle - plenty of class and comfort. Just wish my brakes didn't break my heart.
Oh well
I bought a 99 Laredo 4WD. Since I've had it, I have taken it for a warrenty fix 24 times. Uncalled for. The starter (4X), passenger window (3X), rear wiper motor (2X), rear Differential, electrical shorts..blah blah blah. Let me tell you, in between fixes, I love the Jeep dearly. If my friends were risk takers, I would say buy it and pray for a good one. Otherwise , stay away, far away and wait for an Audi- type turnaround for Chrysler.
Jeep
I bought the '99 model after testing it Carmax. So far we have had 2 power window motors replaced, the water pump, the door lock system failed, 2 speakers and the brakes twice. I can't keep front brakes on this thing. The good news is that we bought the extended warranty ( the mechanics have no clue what they are doing by the way). On the bright side, it is good for long trips and has enough room for my family of 4 and all our stuff. The four wheel drive works well also. As soon as we can afford it, I am trading it for a Ford F150 pickup.
Jeeps are Junk
Too many problems, in six times for warranty work...as soon as out of warranty, transmission problems. Power window problems, sensor problems, tires wore out very fast..this car will not last to 100K miles. Will never buy another Daimler-Chrysler product in this lifetime.
Drives well, but....
I had a 1988 Cherokee Pioneer and loved that car. However, I have been disappointed in this Jeep. The power windows have each had to be repaired at least twice. The weatherstripping keeps falling off and although I have had it in twice for the rear window weatherstripping, it still leaks. I've also had to take it in for at least four recalls in the last three years. It also has blind spots due to the thick window supports -- I've nearly gotten into two accidents because I haven't seen cars coming toward me on a curve. Would I buy another Jeep? Not on your life.
My 3rd and Worst Jeep
This is my third top-of-the-line Jeep, and owning it has been my first bad experience with Jeep. I have spent about $1500 per year on non-warranty service. The brakes have to be redone at least every six months. Mechanical failures are too many to list. I love the look and feel of Jeeps, but this weekend I am trading it in for anything but a Jeep.
Could be worse...
My wife and I have owned four other Jeeps prior to this one, all of which we were very pleased with. We bought this one and also bought the extended warranty. We have many mechanical problems with this one that we didn't have with the others including new transmission, fuel pump & regulator, axle bearings, taillight assemblies shorting out, warped rotors, calipers that stick, and wind noise. Fortunately, everything has been covered under the warranty. Overall, it has a rock-solid motor, good styling & good value. I am not unhappy with the car, but I would be if we didn't have the warranty. Our warranty runs out in two more years, and we will probably sell it just before that.
On the verge
I love the way this car drives. It is the best hadling SUV out there and with the power that the v8 rovides it is fast and nimble. But,,,, The brakes were replaced at 20k the tranfer case is leaking and the back windoe leaks water. Asside from this it is a great car. I am gald I have leased it though for I dont trust that this car will last.
Great SUV for a Sportsman
Very nice SUV for the guy that likes to play outdoors, like me. Plenty of room for camping supplies for camping trips. Can put my racing road bicyle in the back hatch area with the back seat down for are bike trips. Also great for are golf trips. We are big into ATVing these days so it's also great for towing are Polaris Sportsman's around with plenty of room for are supplies in the back.
1999 Grand Cherokee is OK
I bought this Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo used when it was 6 months old with 17,000 miles. Other than replacement of a leaky right headlight assembly, and upgrade of front brake pads and rotors, this vehicle has been very good and completely reliable. It has negotiated very steep inclines in excess of 45 degrees; it is comfortable on and off road; it pulls a 4500 lb. trailer with no problems. I would trust this vehicle to go anywhere. The gas mileage is 18 mpg/city. As a suggestion, purchase an extended warranty from warranty direct (7-year, 100,000 mile plan for $1,350), just in case I trashed the transfer case. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone.
Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo
I heard alot of negitive things about the Jeep. After buying one, I love the feel of the ride, the handling of it's 4 wheel select-trac system. I thas been an over all joy to own and drive. I have heard from other people, that some SUV's have different drive systems (automatic shifting). As far as I am concerned, if you cant control when it will shift, you cant control the vehicle. That is what makes this jeep lover happy.
BEAUTIFUL NOT RELIABLE
Bought at 36K. Immediately after the dealer's 60 day warranty expired the transmission stripped completely and had to be replaced. The check engine light comes on about once a week - it's always something, though usually minor. Heated seats circuit blew B4 I even bought it. This car has THE MOST comfortable seats I've ever had, and is the only car that doesn't bother my bad back. Interior fit and finish is nice, too. Good firm ride though trucklike motor noise comes straight into driving compartment, becomes grating on long trips. BIG problem is that car will not start on even a slight grade if the gas tank falls below one-quarter!!
1999Jeeep Grand Cherokee
I've really enjoyed my Jeep so far. It has great towing capabilities for towing that boat or camper around.
A nice Jeep:)
I bought a Jeep Grand Cheerokee for our family just last summer. I had bought it used from the dealership. The person who had owned it before I had it out on a 3 year lease. I have been very pleased with it's performance from bringing my family for Prince Edward Island and Back to Maine. It also has bought us down to Massachusettes many times to visit with relatives.
3rd Jeep is a charm
This is my 3rd Jeep, and it is the best Jeep yet. I owned an original Cherokee for 7 years....great vehicle....and a 1995 Grand Cherokee.....very bad vehicle. On return from living in Asia I bought the current Jep, and have not had any problems after 4 years of use. Acceleration is excellent, 4WD is fabulous, everything is tight & precise.
