Distress
Insurance is high, fuel economy is low. Minor problems can be very costly. According to the dealer the fuel pumps are issues. Loaded to the gills it still is nothing to brag about!
Never Again Will We Make This Mistake!
Run for you life! This is the worst SUV on the market! Problems from literaly day one. Black smoke poured out the back after owning for one day. Company would not diagnose correctly until warenty had expired! Thank you Chrysler! The brakes ate up our entire savings, the transmission was my right kidney, and not to mention the new engine we had to put in it. The front door does not lock, the windows leak, the hood does not stay up by its self. Please what ever you do DO NOT buy a 1999 Jeep! It is by far the worst decision my husband and I have ever made! We tell everyone we know how much we have "loved" our Jeep. If you own a Jeep you understand the nightmare.

Nothing But Junk
I purchased this vehicle used about a year ago. At 36K, there was a terrible transmission clunk when shifting. At 40K, rotors had to be replaced due to poor DiamlerChrysler caliper design (well known problem). DC refused to assist in the $450 bill. I phoned the 800 number and they refused to let me talk to a manager and then hung up on me! Their customer service is horrible and rude. DC capitalizes on the Jeep "American" tradition (but it's a German automobile). Don't make the same mistake I did. You will be sorry.
Never Again
I bought this Jeep to downsize from a Chevy Suburban, not to go lower quality. Brake rotors replace within 6 months. Differentials are LOUD all the time. Heating and Air selector sometimes switches to different zones, sometimes doesn't. Three water pump replacements in 2 years. Warning light came on yesterday "Low Coolant" - so this is never going to end. The transmission hesitates from 2nd to 3rd gear, I don't even want to talk about the trouble of going to 4WD and back. I have to make sure I have a clear area before switching 4WD/2WD. However, I like the looks, I love the interior driving position and center console. The engine is still strong and torquey.
Excellent car...but...
It's been a great car. I bought it new, and since it was the first year of the "new" style, I would think some problems were to be expected... No show stoppers at all, but changed 6 electrical windows in the first 2 years (yes, you read right - 2 of them had to be changed twice), because they stopped working. Breaks disks tend to warp quite frequently, and hence you should expect some at least minor break problems every 18-24 months or so. Also changed 2 computers. No drive train or engine problems at all though. Very reliable engine/drivetrain.
