11 years of reliable performance, style
Purchased new, utterly reliable. Lowest maintenance cost of any car I've owned in 30 years. Performs as well now as the day I bought it. A joy to own and be proud of!
A Very Fast Cat
This is the 1st Jaguar I have owned. My father had a beautiful 1975 XJ6 with lots of problems. The new Jags are spectacular. The XJR is a completely different machine. Under the hood is a Supercharged V8 that delivers 370 horse power. It's a 4 door Porsche. In 1998 it was rated as the world's fastest production sedan. Need I say more. I will! The interior is exquisite. Everyone knows that the British make the best interiors. Rolls Royce, Bentley and Aston Martin. Just sit in one. The exterior is SEXY. The looks from people on the street, especially women, makes it all worth it. Mercedes & BMW's are on every street corner, but a Jag says classy, unique and very sexy.

Sleeping Beauty
This car really moves, but doesn't look like it. Is faster than most, looks better than most, more fun to drive than most. If you want a fast car that doubles as a head turner, than this car is for you. Had early problems with timing componets, but once repaired look out, nothing but fun!!
The "ASC" light comes on / the car stops
I have a 1999 XJR supercharged. I'm having a tough problem. When i first start out driving the "ASC" light comes on and then the car goes into a "slow mode" for a block and then light goes out and car drives another few feet and then light comes back on, and the car goes back into a slow mode. Then the car "gets over it " and it drives fine.
Love My Jag!
A wonderful car in every way! Very fun to drive, superb comfort, lots of power, an extraordinarily classy car that draws admiring stares wherever I drive. I've had this car for three years with nary a problem. I did rate down on fuel economy, but then what can you expect with a 370 hp engine? All in all, this babe's a 10!
The Love and Hate
As a jaguar enthusiast, I love my XJR. Amazing accelerations, fun to drive and the look!! The most beautiful sedan design. But in 6 months, the car has worked well only 2 weeks!!! AC valve. Gasket. Electronic problems. ASC, traction control, heated seat, etc... Today it's a knock sensor!! And tomorrow?? If you have a second car, a mechanic who knows (!) Jag and a lot of Zen attitude this is a dream car.
1999 Jaguar XJR
I own my Jaguar for 5 years now, and only had to replace brakes and holes. Brake job cost over $500 and some holes jobs cost me $500 (Labor). Dealership labor is $120 an hour! It's still worth the money. When I drive my Jaguar XJR people stop and look at the car. I have all the time drive-by and give me a thumbs-up! My next car will be a 2008 Jaguar XJR, But I'm still keeping my 1999 Jaguar XJR.
A Blast with 4 Doors
I bought this car a year and a half ago with only 7300 miles on it, it was almost 7 years old and still smelled new. I drove it over 1000 miles home (fast) and have only put another 200 miles on it in the time I have owned it. It's a weekend car for me and I absolutely love it.
Jaguar XJR is an amazing car!
I did a lot of research before I bought my Jaguar XJR and I had been wanting to own this beautiful car. Finally the day came and we bought the 1999 Jaguar XJR. The car was in excellent condition and the 4.0L engine is super smooth, the acceleration is superb, and everything about the car is very smooth. I own a Chrysler 300M and once I drive the Jaguar XJR, I can tell the quality of the Jaguar is far more superior than the Chrysler. The high quality leather and wood trim interior is beautiful. My wife and daughter love sitting in the back seats because they are comfortable. Since I love high performance cars, the Jaguar XJR really meets my expectation.
Jag Love
The company has made it difficult to deal with recalls. The reliability, especially the electronics are disappointing. The power is suspect at times as the acceleration has waned at the most inopportune times; like getting on the freeway.
Speed Thrills
This car is an absolute blast to drive and handles like a dream. The seats could be made a little more comfortable for those longer road trips. They are not quite as sticky as the tires.
Jag xjr
It's like driving a Corvette only with a real back seat.
'99 XJR
I bought this car with 16,000 miles on it and have driven it over 15,000 in the past year. The car has been a joy to drive and an exceptional performance car. I have had no problems whatsoever in any area. The car is tight and solid without any squeaks or rattles and the quality throughout has been very pleasing. This is the best car I have owned and when its time to replace it in the next year or 2, I expect to get another XJR.
good but not great
370 horses makes it fun, lots of subtle, head-turning class. My 3rd Jag, they're getting better each generation, but still disappointed in the little problems that pop up, like part failures, irritating rattling noises due to build quality, and electronics issues. Twice now it just stopped running out of the blue while driving, and dealer can't find problem. XJR has a tendency to hop when cornering and hitting a bump at speed, even with proper alignment and top of the line tires.
I love it all
This car is amazing. I would suggest it to anyone looking for a car with more performance and luxury than you could ask for. This car is worth every penny you spend no matter what cost.
Satisfaction
Very friendly precise machine with the best comfort and smooth ride. Although the age of it is 7 years and 127000 miles the machine in excellent condition under the regular care from 1st owner. Fuel economy is corresponding with engine.
Still nice after all this time
I keep my XJR garaged in the winter so I haven't driven it for a couple of months. This year's Ohio winter has been mild enough, I could have driven it a lot. A great car! I am considering selling it this summer to get money to start a business. Easy to say since it's garaged. After I start driving it again I could have second thoughts. It's a head turner, I get lots of complements on the road.
Love and Hate Relationship
I really enjoy driving this car, but I the hate tires it's riding on. It sometimes feels like I'm in a horse drawn carrige rolling 70mph over cobblestone streets. This car needs a wider variety of tires to choose from. Okay, The good is the XJR's stealth like appearence at stoplights when the little young bucks roll-up in their asian street rods or the occassional Mustang or Camaro? I kill the traction control and pop on the Sport Mode and give them a run for their money, so you know the 540 or 740 don't come close. The sporty yet classy interior is a plus.
Low, Fast & Stylish
I like the way the car looks and the way it handles. The supercharged engine is smooth and powerful. It leaves the line with no hesitation. The gas milage is great considering the size and weight of the car. The low profile Pirilie P zero tires ride a little harsh at slow speeds on rough pavement.
My 99 XJR is a blast
This car is fantastic. It's way too easy to hit 100mph at the end of a merge lane entering the freeway. Change lanes like a nut at over 80 mph and the car hugs the road like lane paint.
Jaguar 1999 XJR
This car is the most fun to drive. I have been stop and ask to slow down but no tickets as of today.
Jaguar nailed it
What I really love is you can drive it for 4 hours and get out as if you hadn't driven at all. The car is incredibly fast and the sport mode button is very effective when needed. Many times cars have this option and it seems useless. Not the case with this car. I bought it used with 40k miles and it has been very reliable. The only complaint I have is the climate control sometimes wanders regarding temp.
XJR WonderMobile
XJR WonderCar. This is a rocket ship on four wheels.
WHAT A CAR
I OWNED A 1998 CADILLAC SEVILLE STS BEFORE I BOUGHT THIS JAGUAR AND I STILL DRIVE MY STS BUT NO WERE NEAR AS MUCH AS I DRIVE THE JAG IT IS A GREAT DEAL NICER INSIDE I DO LIKE THE STYLING ON THE OUTSIDE OF MY STS BETTER BUT OVERALL THE JAG WOULD BE MY FIRST CHOICE JAMIE C. LANGE
Good Bye Lexus Forever
After being told that Japanese cars were the best out there by the media, I bought a LEXUS LS. WHAT A WASTE! The car had no soul like the Jaguar. People mistook it for a Camry. The valet always parked in the back. Now with the XJR, I always get a smile and the front row at resturants. No More POSURE cars for me. I love it!
Nothing lost
Moving from a smaller sport coupe to the larger XJR was a great choice. I now have room for friends & clients, but I didn't give up my acceleration and sport handling.
Be sure you know what you are getting...
This is a long term ownership review. It had around 42,000 miles on the odometer at the time of purchase. Be sure you're ready to pay the "Jag tax" for ownership. In other words it is very expensive to maintain. Don't get me wrong, I love this car, but certain items of normal maintenance are expensive: Catalytic converters: $2400, tires, $1200, cooling system repairs, $$, depending on what you have to do. Brakes, $1000 unless you have Brembo, then it's double that number. Given the cost of ownership, if you find one that has had much of this done, or are willing to fess up in the first 100k miles, you too can really have a fun, classy, powerful ride.
WOW WHAT A CAR
I HAD A 1999 CADDY STS AND I LOVED IT BUT WHEN I GAT THIS CAR IT SEEMED LIKE A JUNK. THIS IS A REAL CAR. FAST SPORTY AND ITS A JAG!!!
