1991 Jaguar XJ6
Love this car...It has been great since the moment I drove it brand new off the lot. The ride is smooth and comfortable. Hate riding and driving other vehicles because in comparison the ride is bumpy and rough. We have never had any mechanical problems. Simple routine service (oil/lube) has been a breeze. The breaking ability is superb. Its performance has been outstanding. Even now, at 11 years of age it is still a delightful car even in comparsion to brand new cars.
I'm Too Sexy ...
2nd owner; bought w/60k miles; orig owner had suspension converted; was in immaculate condition! It now has 130k miles but starting to blow oil smoke. Also, I can't seem to keep (1) tires in camber and (2) A/C charged with freon. Have spent about $2k in repair work in last 6 years.

Never Again!
Jag's are terrible mechanically once you get to know them. I bought mine used and at first it was great. Then the problems started. It would stall for no apparent reason and refuse to restart for a couple of hours. Now it has an electrical gremlin where the battery discharges. I had my mechanic check the car and he cannot trace the problem. It is a little anemic in the power department, but that is bearable. When it runs, the ride is great, the seats are comfortable and I can drive it for hours without feeling fatigue. The problem is reliability. I finally grew tired of the problems and dumped it.
Great luxomobile, still turns heads
large enough, still quiet and powerfull, reasonable economy BUT needs premium fuel. The steering died and needed BOTH pump and rack, replaced at 120 K miles for about $900 with rebuilt parts. Everything else still works, no other reliability problems. It drives nice and turns heads, elegant car and rarer thna your average neibour's Benz or BMW.
Mine's a 1990 XJ12 Vanden Plas - Not listed here but....
I have an XJ12 Vanden Plas 4 dr 12 cyl that is hard to find reviews for so I thought I'd post mine in it's little brother's area. This Car is AMAZING. Not only is it of superb comfort and style but the darn thing is bulletproof. It cruises along at 60 - 70 mph without effort and feels more like you're in first class seating on an aircraft. Everything is situated perfectly for comfort and access.
92 XJS V12 COUPE-BEAUTIFUL * FAST
This is the most BEAUTIFUL, exciting, FUN, attention getter, PRIDEFUL, powerful, SEXY, smooth, CAN'T STOP MYSELF FROM STARING AT, vehicle I have ever had the PLEASURE to own!!!!!!!!! I love the cockpit/racecar feel/view that it has. It's low to the ground, and goes 0-60 in 7.5 seconds.
The Very Classy XJS Convertible
One of the most beautiful cars in the world. Loads of power and very comfortable. A great GT! Car has a fair bit of scuttle shake so drives better on freeways - minor roads aren't as much fun. Every conceivable extra comes with these cars but I have the feeling it is a 'fragile' car compared with say a Mercedes. If you want to look good and don't mind the awful fuel consumption (15mpg ave) this is the car for you :-)
Gajag
Purchased at 121000 miles. Repairs over the next four years included a complete AC system, a fuel pump, A valve job, complete brake sets all around, 4 tires, an exterior passenger side door handle and a headliner installed. The door locks all failed at the same time and heve yet to be repaired. The car is now in super drivable condition, looks great, has no oil leaks anywhere, burns a quart of oil every 2000 miles, and is delight to drive on the highway, and no slouch in town either. Gas is 23 on the road and 16.5 in town. Average since purchase 19.9.
Great car!
A 15-yr-old car that has stood the test of time. Held up well. Only gripe is hard seats for a long drive. Absolutely beautiful car, powerful wonderful to drive - find a GOOD independent mechanic who can get good prices on parts!
The Best of the Best
Simply the Best. I love this car. It is absolutely perfect in every way. You should get one too.
First Car
Bought my Jag XJ6 Sovereign for a very good price. Great gas mileage, average 18.3mpg. Very comfortable, reliable, performs like a champ, and overall a great first car and birthday gift in a sense! Update 08-05-16: Have had the car for a few years now. And in the past few weeks I've had my first major part failure: the starter. All cars are prone to it. Luckily the starter is readily available!

Great exotic Grand Tourer
The XJS convertible is an awesome car, its supercar V-12 is unlike any other. It produces a sound better than a Ferrari's V-12 and can keep up with one too. Would recommend this car to anyone, especially since preowned prices are low. Great ownership experience never had to take to shop other than scheduled maintenance. Very much like an Aston Martin from the same period; a fast, sophisticated, luxurious, beautiful (inside and out) British GT.
Good, but not great
Have had my XJ6 Sovereign for 6 years now. A great entry model into Jaguar driving, but get as late a model as possible, 1990 on up or later. Don't get 1989 or lower. If possible get a 1995 or later.
Smooth Rider
I paid $3K for this car via a friend in the Jaguar business. It was a single owner car with 35K miles. The gel coat was bad, plus I immediately spent another $3K on brakes (a full rear end job is very expensive on any XJS model prior to 95), and it's been worth every penny. I'm about to splash out on a paint job, because I love the old fashioned style of the car, and this one has chrome wire wheels as well. I may have had about 10 Jags, including 3 XJSs, 3 XJ12s, and an XJR (8) and my wife has a 2005 S-Type with all the "bells and whistles", and I think I am enjoying this as much as any, even the XJR. Don't let the low initial cost fool you though. It's not a cheap car to own.
AN AWESOME BUY!
ANY MONEY PUT INTO MAINTENANCE IS EASILY OFFSET BY THE LOW PURCHASE PRICE. IMAGINE A TRUE EXOTIC FOR ABOUT 5K...WOW! PARTS ARE READILY AVAILABLE...YOU CAN JUSTIFY ANOTHER 5K IN REPAIRS,IF NECESSARY, AND STILL BE AHEAD OF THE MOB. THE V-12 IS A SCREAMER...PURE JAG AL THE WAY FOR A RIDICULOUS PRICE! GO ONLINE TO "JKAG-LOVERS" AND KIRBY PALM'S ONLINE HOW-TO MANUAL IS A GREAT DIAGNOSTIC GUIDE TO REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE.
Jaguar could be a prefered brand, but ............
The manufacturer intent on selling new cars with much fanfare, but like an illegitimate child it wants nothing to do with it after it is sold. The Dealer-body chimes right in with this. In many ways the dealers are worse for their inability to build product loyalty, they see the owners as plain and simple cash-cows. Jaguars in many ways are wonderful cars that have a lot to offer, but with the present dealership structure the car will never become what it could be. I showed up at a dealership with a gleaming older model and was ignored at the parts dept. for 40 minutes ,staff walking by me until I walked out. So much for multi-brand mega dealerships owned by racing magnates who's mechanics aren't even trained to work on older models. Jaguar should be elated to have so many enthusiasts that lovingly restore their legacy products, but like their dealers, they don't care. Until Jaguars snobby attitude changes, customer loyalty will not last beyond the first three years and then, just like new status restaurants with an artificial cache, its customer-base will flee to the next status symbol. Only now will it be more difficult to attract customers to the off-lease or post -sale used products for the fact that the cost of failed electronic components and software no longer available will make Jaguars basically a worthless proposition. With the over-dependence on computerization and electronics there will be no more collectable " Legacy" vehicles of all makes in the future years to come.

1990 JAGUAR XJ6 2 owner
It was a top of the line in it's day. It still has the style and beauty that cause people to stop us and ask questions about the make, model and year. Their response is always about what a great looking vehicle it is and how much they appreciate the quality that went into the manufacture of those vehicles.

first love
I have always admired these cats on the street and I decided to take the plunge on an older XJ6, 1990. quite frankly I was scared but since then my fears are gone. This is a great car and it rules the highway. One has to remember that the car is after all 15 years old and therefore some things will need taking care of but the engine and major components on this baby are just puuuurrriiing.
91 was a great year!
21 mpg. Quiet! So quiet. 90 mph drives like 60 mph. Huge trunk. Perfect comfort. The front seats adjust in innumerable variations. Around town and trips, comfort. I can not remember ANY big work until 2005. (Earlier, we had to replace the front light..a stone. In 2005 we put in a new transmission.) All the car needs is oil changed, fluids, and new tires. Now it is 15 years old and still excellent. I think cars have personalities in a positive or negative vein based on their year. 1991 was a great year for the Sovereign.
cool cat
What a head turner! If I had a nickel for every time someone stopped me to talk about this car I would have over $3! (which would pay for enough gas to go about 15 miles.) The car is powerful, not quick off the start but smooth and fast going from 50 to 100. The ride is comfortable. The upkeep can be expensive, but if you stay ahead of the curve by doing preventative maintenance it is very reliable. Change the bushings, hoses, and other rubber mounts, put in new switches and you should be all set.
Great Fun Car
this car has been a joy to own and drive, great riding car, and many features. Highly recommend.
love my cat
great car for a little money, gets a lot of looks , rides like a million bucks. why buy anything else? for the money this is one of the best buys in the world.not as expensive as people make them out to be. check it out good and dont jump at everything that seems wrong these cars are very tempermental. but overall you cant beat this or at least i cant for the money. the best money ive ever spent on a car!
Showroom classic
Just got this in showroom condition with only 15,200 miles on it from a friend who is original owner, for $8,500. Old design but boy does it get the looks!
I loved my XJ6 Soveriegn so much I bought TWO!
Well always wanted a Jag, just had to have one and finally last year I bought my first jag 1990 Soveriegn and I love it! Loved it so much that 6 mos later we bought at 1992 XJ6 that is exactly the same inside and out as the 1990, Twins! Yes these cars are not for the faint of heart or wallet. We are lucky to have someone who loves jags and knows how to fix them and knows his way around the junkyard for those hard to find parts! These cars are a labor of love, if you don't love your jags, then don't buy one, cause they can drive you crazy with the maintenance and issues, but when they run its a blast to drive and show! "cats gotta run"
91 XJS Convertible is HOT !
This is the most gorgeous car on the road. The headturning rating is off the scales. If you don't like drawing attention to yourself, this isn't the car for you. You have to get used to people stopping to tell you what a great looking car this is. Don't settle for the sedan when there are great deals out there on the convertibles.
XJ HEAVEN
I have had this vehicle for 6 months and it is the best riding car I have owned. I just had it painted and it now looks like a brand new $70,000 Jag. I believe it is the best value/price of any used car. It is a joy to drive and a joy to look at! If you can find one that is well maintined and relible for a decent price 3-6K jump on it!
Excellent Buy
These cars are a steal at 5 to 6K. You get so much luxury for the price and 1990 and above are trouble free.
*******
it was ok , after all those years with it felt old and reliability was horrid and repiar bills were unbelievable.
1992 JX Jaguar
throughly enjoyed driving this auto...very comfortable and secure feeling...holds the road well at various speeds...liked the sun roof feature...large truck space...mostly the reliability of the engine...
1992 Jaguar 12
The car runs great and has needs very little maint
Used Jag - bad idea
I let the low price tag fool me. This car cost me a lot of money. It looked and drove like a new car. But after all was said and done, I would have been better off leasing a new one. (not that I could have afforded that either)
Inexpensive Introduction
I bought this car from it's second owner in Dayton, Ohio in '04. It drove like a dream all the way to Dallas. It rained across OH, WVA, VA, TN, & AR. IT got warm in TX. Since then I have replaced the AC compressor, headliner, rack & pinion bushings, some PS hoses, had a brake job, repaired both rear door handles, and tinted the windows. There is some minor body rust to repair. I'd also like to replace the Blauplunkt w/ an original radio. I'm trying to find OEM wheels to replace the current alloys w/ plastic Jag caps. If you are patient and want a great daily driver that doesn't look like everything else on the road, this one was affordable. Which makes restoring it less painful.
bad buy ,a lemon
this car breaks on me all the time. its has costed me a fortune i advise donot buy this car. i strongly suggest mercedes-benz products and lexus. lexus got the highest rating of preowned vehicles by jd power. over all its a bad buy and if you have the money to keep on fixing it then so be it.
Looks great in the garage
This car required three transmissions (albeit covered under warranty)within its intitial 1,600 miles. It seems as though it's had just about every part replaced by 65,000. When it runs, it runs great--but I won't take it anywhere out of town. Thankfully, I've been able to afford a second car throughout twelve years of ownership.
73 YEARS OLD AND FINALLY GOT MY JAGUAR. V12 WOW!
NOT A WORK CAR. BIG TIME FUN CAR. BEAUTIFUL AUTOMOBILE. POETRY IN MOTION.

Pleasure to drive
My pride and joy. A great roadster. Plan on buying a hardtop XJS. These are great world class autos.
Must have gotten a good one
I have had little or no problems with my Jag. I have put over 35000 miles and only had to replace a starter relay. I just love this car.
