Used 2000 Isuzu Trooper Consumer Reviews
If you find a low mileage Trooper, buy it!
I bought my 2000 Trooper S 5-speed new. I had it for 21 years & 166,000 miles. Extremely reliable, huge inside, but handled smaller. I drove it from Canada to Mexico to Maine to Texas. I've done hard-core off-roading including Moab slick rock, AZ Jeep roads, and hauling Pennsylvania hunters in 10" of snow. The Trooper excels in tough conditions, yet can cruise comfortably on the interstate all day. In those 20+ years I experienced only: faulty TPS sensor @15k miles covered under warranty, inop power window switch @125k miles/14years, replaced starter @140k mi/15 years, replaced front pinion seal about the same time. That's it. Averaged 18+ mgp highway. I regularly changed the PCV filter and EGR valve so I didn't experience the high oil consumption noted by some. I sold it cheap to my nephew after 21 years and 167,000 miles, and he took it to Minnesota and beat it like a rented mule (like most kids today he immediately hacked off the muffler)(!). He drove it another few years before selling for a sports car. Look for a manual transmission Trooper - the autos had longevity problems, but could be upgraded. Planet Isuzoo is a great forum for information and parts. These make a great first vehicle for the kids, and daily driver, or that second vehicle for the cabin. If you find a cherry one it could be your primary car. I wish they still made them, and I wish I never sold mine. I'm looking for another for my son who soon will be driving.

Super Trooper
Good Vehicle for those that enjoy a combination of style, speed and power.
Maybe mine is a Lemon
Bought mine with only 8K miles in '01. Everything went well until engine threw a rod at 58K miles and destroyed the engine. Engine was replaced under warranty by Isuzu. Good customer service, it just took 3 months for the engine replacement. In the interim had to buy another vehicle to fill the void. Once car was returned engine management system failed at 62K miles (not covered under warranty). Quality of build pales compared to my old '86 Trooper II. Not recommended.
