I love my Tib
I bought my Tib brand new and yes the radio went within three months and yes the front wheel barrings keep going(left 2x right 3x), it goes through headlights like no tomorrow, has had 3 alts and those tires phew, can they make some decent tires for this car? And right now my timing belt and water pump just blew at 135,000 (replaced at 90,000). I still love this car. My husband wants me to get rid of it but its perfect. Handles great, good on gas, zip in and out of traffic, I have no trouble in ice and snow or rain. I would buy this car all over again. When the time comes to get another vehcile I will buy another Hyundai.
No major problems
Overall have had a good experience with this vehicle. Only owner. Have had to fix both windows ($300-400 each) and the driver's side is acting up again. Tape deck went bad within a few months, replaced under warranty. ~110,000miles and have changed oil and spark plugs, no issues with engine or other components. Have been in a few (not too major) accidents and was impressed by the safety of such a small car. Handles great in good conditions. So light that drives horrible in snow, not that good on very wet surfaces, and only OK on dirt/gravel. Not enough weight on tires to keep enough friction. Backseat is hard to fit anyone over ~5'5".Trunk is surprisingly roomy.
Amazing little machine
Well I came to the states after done with high school in europe and my uncle gave me this car! I did not think of much at the time but it has captured my heart as i said amazing car even though way underestimated!! I do not want to give this car away ever!!
First Car
I got my Tiburon when I was 16 and still have it at 22. I'm just now thinking of getting a new car after putting this little thing through hell. It drives well, parks well, can take snow, rain, and just about anything. Mine has had issues with the fuel pump most recently, radiator, thermostat, and a few other things. But this has been a course of 6 years. Its still running and currently my daily driver and has been for several of my family members lots of times. Its a little car, but its tough. I've had several incidents in it, but it keeps going. If you need something small and reliable, this is definitely it. I have over 200,000 on mine and if it wasn't giving issues that cost more than it was worth and had four doors, I'd never want to get rid of it.

nice car for the price
I've had this car since 2006 and have put 24,000 on it so far. I've replaced the belts and front brake pads; done my own oil changes and had the atf replaced. The automatic tranny has never felt right, it shifts weird but has never broke down. The power is decent and the handling is ok. The brakes are fantastic but to sensitive at times. I locked the left front wheel only in a sudden stop and the car had handling issues after that. Its noisy even with the windows rolled but the sunroof is a great feature. The fuel regulator leaked so I replaced it but the new one started leaking after a year. The stereo is possessed. Cant skip forward on a cd just back, changes from radio to cd on its own.
2001 tiburon
I bought my tiburon about 3 years ago it has yet to let me sit. however the only proublems i have had with the car is the breaks. i had to put a new master cylender new calipers all new break lines and hoses and a new break booster. other than that the car has been good to me it runs great and has 123000k miles on it. however i dont think i would see my sefl buying another one
2001 Hyundai
Great car to drive around city and fun summer vehicle. Not good for country night driving on dark country roads. I had alot of fun driving in the warm months but do not like how it handles on ice and in snow. This car has great miles per gallon. I bought this car brand new and thought very reliable until this past year. Transmission went out so it was great to have the 100,000 mile warranty.
FAST HYUNDAI
I am 15 this is my first car and i love it, i have gotten in two several races and this car is stock! this car is the best car ever i bought it for 2400 salvage title, it was really a good investment. i just did a tune up and vrooom man this car is great. i would really suggest this car two someone who is looking for a fast tuner.
It is what it is.
After 8 years the stick is still a fun drive. Typical of exposed braking systems is noise and caliper rattle at times. The headlamp filament is probably too wide for the vibration it receives and is prone to break about every 6 months-- I don't see this as an electrical problem with the headlamps. The brakes are very substantial for the car's weight and braking on slippery roads requires some concentration to maintain control. This was surely designed to be a fun, economical sports car. With TLC and a little help from the warranty, it is exactly that.
i love this car
i've got a 5 speed silver 2001 tiburon at thanksgiving. i first fell in love with the tib as one sailed past me on the highway earlier in the year, and for the same money, i'd much rather have the tib than a civic. better customer service, the car is so much fun, better warranty, and i'd rather have a unique tib than the same old civic or corolla. it is zippy, can keep up with just about anyone, the stereo is great, it responds well, it gets good gas mileage (usually about 28 mpg).
just gotta love her!
I have had my Tibby for 3 years now and she has been the best car I have ever had (I have only had 4 until I got the Tib.) I don't experience ALOT of noise, there is some, I have only bought tires once, that was 3 months ago. I have driven on the hwy at 150km no problem and in the city I have no problem accelerating. And it's cute as a button!
No major issues after 7 years
Bought this car originally for the mileage and warranty...and hasn't let me down yet. Nothing major (besides hitting a deer).....replaced normal wear items and battery. Only out of ordinary issue was a bad rear wheel bearing at 75K. Couple of design quirks....the cup holder sucks, tilt steering is funky to operate, the front end look is love/hate. Still averages 35MPG on the highway...only aftermarket parts is a larger throttle body and K&N drop-in filter. The paint does suck....clear coat is gone in spots...but all in all I got more than my $ worth out of this car. Good hauler too....did just fit 50 2x4 studs in the thing, all I had to do was take the headrest off the pass seat lol
Looks cute, but it's a special needs car
If I had eschewed the last three repairs (at least $6,000 ago), I could have afforded a more reliable used car by now.
Quick Little Econo
This in my opinion is a great car for someone that wants that sports car, but still wants the convenience, price, and reliability of an economy ride. Never had a problem and after a few performance modifications I found this car to be very quick.
Love my Red ride
Bought 2001 with 98k...knew nothing about Tiburons. Found it at a dealership online. Was looking at several other vehicles at the dealership. When arriving at dealership a hot red car was on display prominently in front. I said to my husband "look at that car, it's so nice!" My husband said "I think it's the one we are here to see".....I still laugh to this day when I think of that. I paid $5400 for it not knowing one thing about it. It was sold as is. We had a check for $3000 from insurance company because I totaled my family van...,we needed a car since we were driving a rental because of accident. Did not actually like the way it drove since I was used to a larger family van. But boy, did I LOVE this little car over the years!! Black leather seats and moon roof. We always get looks. Our boys both had their own cars so we didn't feel too bad treating ourselves to a small sporty car. I put 55,000 miles on it in 10 years. Not many problems. Just rust that developed on driver door and lights burn fairly often. I am thinking of replacing the door and having it painted. Can't give it up :( but I'm currently investigating rav4's but keeping my tib!

Never again
it looked nice. it ran like junk . When it rained the lights blew out. The tranny was bad and the color was awful. The paint job on them was bad and honestly i will never ever buy another one ever again . We let them know the paint was peeling and they said it's under warranty . Well yeah if i wanted to pay 500- and whats more it was only 6 months off the line. Thxs and sorry never again
Hyuandai's are Awesome
I love to drive my car.....It is fun and sporty and buying gas doesn't clean out my bank account....I can drive from Monroe Louisiana to Dallas Texas on one tank of gas....It is perfect for the college student who loves to save money and still have adventures.
Not so Happy
I've had my Tib for a year and a half and am not too happy with it. I have had no mechanical problems, but many annoying minor problems. I've had the driver side seatbelt replaced for not retracting, both headlights and fog lights have been replaced twice in the past 6 months, windshield wipers actually got stuck together in a rain storm, driver side running panel is warped, paint chips VERY easily, and bird poop eats right through the paint (even when washed off within a few days). Other than that, it's fun to drive. But, I am not sure I would buy another.
Tiburiburon
never would have given Hyundai a second thought but the interior was great looking and compared to a Celica, it was like 5 grand cheaper and w/ a few more options. Warranty is the best and this car is super reliable. Common problems are headlight bulbs and wheel bearings which are covered in warranty. car is so customizable w/ aftermarket parts and I got SO many compliments from what I did to it. I made people w/ cars that cost so much more look like nothing. I am so pleased with Hyundai and their service and if they came out with a "real sports car" I'd for surely buy it. I crashed my tib and truely miss it as do many people. Its truly one of a kind.
OK CAR
I have read some of the other reviews and I agree with some of them. The Tib is not a very sound car, I mean you can hear alot of outside noise when you have two people in the car you have to turn up the radio to hear it at all over the outside noise and normal conversation. I have also had tires replaced and they sell for $200 each. I am now on my third set of headlights and taillights. The paint is less than desired. I had bird droppings on the car and in less than a day it took off the clear coat. The car co. wanted to charge me $2000 to paint. I don't know if I would buy another one especially from this Dealership. Service people are not very nice and it takes 3 hr to change oil.
Tiburon, a nice car for a good price
Generally when you see a new type of car like an eclipse or something along those lines it is marketed and sold for a pretty high price I beleive the eclipse hit 18-19000, which is alot of money. When i needed a new car I looked at the Integra, Tiburon and Civic. I pretty much threw the civic out of the picture it just didnt suit me. So it boiled down the the Tiburon or Integra, and the Tiburon won. It has the same specs as an integra but its 4000 dollars cheaper. Most of the reviews I read said it was not as reliable as the integra but I dont drive that much and it has not given me any problems
Best bang for the buck
I purchased the 2001 Cobalt Blue with leather. I had a few minor problems which were fixed quickly by the dealership. I love my Tibby! I've put a magnaflow muffler on it, took off the resinator, added a k&n air filter. I'm getting it tinted and eventually hope to improve the horsepower. You can't beat the warranty! I'm not worried about the low resale value because I plan on keeping mine for a long time. If you're thinking about buying one, give it a test drive. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Even with automatic it's a fun car to drive.
my tibby
fun car, no power, looks good, overall a good value
Problems, Problems..
I should have really thought twice when buying my Hyundai. From day one I had problems with the car, it even failed inspection! Im not downsizing Hyundai because they have come a long way, but they kind of failed with this car. The newer models are great but after this car I really wouldn't trust them.
Really Good Car!
I've never had a moments trouble with my "sports car". This car is great to drive, and as far as the noise quotient - it's a sports car! If you want an uber-quiet drive, buy your grandpa's car. If you want a reliable, fun, good performing, and great gas mileage car, complete with loads of compliments, buy this car!!!
lots wrong
i like the look of the car and the pick up.. i dont like the tires why does it need a v rating? i had it up to 148mph but i got a aem cold air and a 2 1/2 catback. i hate the cup holders and the room in the back. i had alot of proublems with it i had 2 replace the lights a couple times and the motor in the window. the moonroof had a leak. and when i got the music up somtimes the window wont go up or down... its not that smooth of a ride and it makes alot of noise even though i like the car at times i would never buy one again and i wouldnt let any of my friends get one either
Tiburon 2001
I purchased this car new in July 2001. I love the sleek design; exterior and interior. For the price, it's not bad. My issues with this car are the lights, the trunk and the seat belts. The seat belts are very "sensitive." If I make even the slightest move, it locks up on me. I have to literally slam the trunk so it can close; if not, the trunk light will stay on. I think this car might have electrical issues; headlights constantly need replacing, sometimes, there's a ringing noise that goes off after the car has been running for 15 minutes. The tires that came with the car are horrible, especially in the rain and snow. Explains why they have such a great warranty.
My wonderful piece of CRAP!!!
This car is THE WORST car I have EVER owned. I WOULD NOT recommend that ANYONE would buy a piece of crap like this. I've had it into the dealer many times to get it fixed, and they can't fix the problem. The car has NOT worked right since the day we drove it off the lot. I'm ready to take the car back to the dealer, with only about 6500 miles on it. If you are thinking of buying one. DON'T!!!!
I LOVE THESE!!!
I have a 2001 Hyundai Tiburon and I am so in love with it. I wouldn't trade it for anything except for maybe like a Porsche Boxter or something... This is the cutest "cheaper" car I have found and I love it!
Great Car!
I like everything about this car. Looks great, handles great, lots of room, quiet and comfortable. I've had this car over a year and have not had any trouble with it. Great gas saver also, I get 30-33 mpg! Can't understand all the negative comments, maybe I've just been lucky.
I've had my car for 2 weeks
Includes 17" factory alloys. Gets fairly good gas mileage and performance on premium fuel. Handles great on standard factory GT tires.
Good Value
I bought mine about 4 months ago and can't say that I'm disappointed. Yes, it could use more ponies, and some of the interior trim is cheap, but for the money it is an outstanding value. Exceptionally fun to drive, good gas, great service at the dealership. Nothing else in the price class is even close. Warranty outstanding. Get the leather and rims, it's worth it.
Don't Depend On It!
This is the biggest piece of crap ever. Almost immediatly the squeaks started. Also have to replace the headlights every time it rains. We bought this new and have put in a transmission at 80,000 miles among other things. At least it was covered under warranty. We have had this thing towed so many times that we upgraded our towing miles through AAA! Buyer beware.
MyTibby
I bought the car new in 2002 , the year they skipped and introd the 2003. I fell in love with the model on first sight , so it was the ultimate impulse buy. This model is FUN to drive.Very nimble in city traffic! A great ride for the handling enthuiast. Some people find it under powered , but I never thought so. I am a Bear (5'5" , 210lbs) of a guy , and it wasn't always the easiest fit , but I learned to love this little hot rod of mine!
TO MUCH ROAD NOISE
actually find this car to be decent, hard to get into reverse at times, at 11000 miles seems to be a well built car..with the exception of the road noise.. would perfer a standard rear wiper for safety issues. for the price with the warranty a pretty good deal
My second Tiburon
I am on my second Tiburon and I have become a true believer in the Hyundai product. I agree with the prior reviewer about the cluttered design in the radio/cup holder/ash tray area. Otherwise- I have logged in almost 100k miles on my Tibs and all I have ever had to do is replace the headlights (must be a flaw there). Otherwise, these cars are reliable, fun to drive and really unique looking.
2001 Hyundai Tiburon
I bought the car for 13,563.19 Brand new in 2001 It has cd leather fully loaded. The car rattles a little but i expected it. I race the car in SCCA SOLOII H Stock the car does well and will do better with mods. The bottom line is this at the time there was no other car that offered its performence for the price. By the way did i mention that the car weighs only 63lbs more than the Integra type r. And with all the races iv'e attended with 22,000 miles I put on it I still have not replaced the brake pads.
Best
My dad bought a 2001 Tiburon for me in 2003 I thought it was so cute and there arnt that many on the road. It gave me a little trouble but only because the person who had it befor me didnt take good care of it! I wouldnt trade it for the most expensive car in the world.
Secret sport coupe
People are constantly poking fun at my "hyundai"! But it is by far the step child of sport compacts and the moxt under estimated, it handles just as weel if not better than it's competitors and on it "on days" it can out accelerate any sport compact with equivalent performace talking about the motor... It's seems a little temperamental at times depending on weather and road conditions, it may not perform as well but still thrills me every time I hit the accelerator and throw it through a hard curve!
Tiburon - value and fun to drive
My previous car was a Dodge Neon - what a mistake! By comparison the Tiburon is a delight to drive. Even the selling experience was not unpleasant. Two problems to date - both fixed quickly and at NO cost under the great warranty. Highly recommend this model.
I will never purchase another Hyundai
I presently have 67,000 miles on my car. Recently, I have had nothing but problems it. Although I have done all the scheduled maintenance on this vehicle, everything not covered under warranty is wearing out. In the last couple of months, I have had to put almost $2500 into it to keep it running. I am also being told that the clutch and the power steering are going at this point. I have taken care of the car, and not run it hard. This is my second Hyundai (my first was in the 1980's), and I thought with the warranty I was getting a better car. Not so. The drive train warranty covers only the internal engine and internal tranny parts - the dealerships don't tell you that. Buyer beware.
Great Ride
I got the tib in the summer, and its doing great, i have over 11,000 miles on it (using it to commute) and its consistantly had great milage and no performance problems. Only complaint is that there is a lot of road noise, but the stereo upgrade drowns that out. Great city car, easy to park, lots of pep when you need it.
Mixed Feelings
overall, i like the way the car drives. however, i noticed a problem with the car a couple days after driving it off the lot. It had a terrible intermittent vibration and wabbling - out of control. I also noticed that the car pulled to the left side. The most frustrating part of this problem was the dealership. The claim that nothing was wrong with the car after taking it in several times. I think the car had bad tires. Since then, I had to replace a tire which was not covered. I have also had a few other parts replaced. It was frusttrating to find that my new had these problems, but even worst was the way the dealership dealth with it.
Much better than you think
This car is pretty good. The only problem I've had is that my front wheel bearing was shot around 80,000 miles. The dealership fixed it for free under 100,000 mile warranty. No other problems so far and I'm nearing the 100,000 mile mark. I do my own oil changes, and did my own tune-up. Paint is still excellent even though I park it outside. I did wax it a couple times. Overall, an excellent car, but not very comfortable because after a long drive, my back hurts. The only time I had to call a tow truck was when I ran out of gas. LOL.
not what it appears to be
Lots off rattles and squeaks. Less comfort than expected. Poor acceleration and poor handling. seems to slide off the road over bumps.
Best Buy For The Money
I have had my Tiburon for 2 years now and haven't had a thing wrong with it! It is fun to drive and I don't have to worry about it breaking down anywhere. I have no complaints after 2 years!
GT-R
Ever since the Tib went on sale in 1997, i wanted this car. It looked like nothing i had ever seen, and for a cheap amount. my grandfather bought me a used blue 2001 tib with 10,400 miles. i've now had it for 8 months and has been so much fun. i prob wash it atleast once a week. sufficient amount of pick up for an economy car and is fun to shift. already have put a magnaflow exhaust and an AEM cold air intake on it. lots more performance for $500 worth of mods. its worth it. overall, great first car for a 16 yr old!
resale value
We just sold our Tiburon. We brought it new from Hampton Hyundai. It went for $16000 in January of 2001. When we went to Hampton to trade it in, they only offered us $7000 for it!!! Great car, but don't expect much of a trade in.
You gotta love the look!!
I think over all this is a very good car. I test drove many other sports coops before I picked the tib. The main reason for my choice is its a great looking car. Second is price and the 3 was it had good handeling. So far I have had only one problem with it during the winter I wrecked one of my whippers because it froze to the the window and I turned them on.
Love my Tib
This car is my baby! I got what I paid for, it's obviously not a lexus, but way less problems than any other car I owned. The Power windows was a known issue and the Dealership will fix any little thing I can complain about! It's a great car to drive, looks really cool too.
