Got the 2021 Hyundai Sonata Limited. This car is loaded with technology. All the bells and whistles. Like driving a Lexus with all the options at a much lower cost. Beautiful styling inside and out. Drives great!

This is my fourth Sonata. They keep adding more and more features as standard equipment. Although the SE is the cheapest model, for a few dollars more the SEL adds more electronics, lane avoidance/collision avoidance and nicer interior and exterior add ons. Comfortable interior seating and power drivers side also part of the package. Special wheels and tires give it a sharp look. I paid extra for red paint but I think the car stands out in red or black. Three years free maintenance now included in the price. Very good rebates in effect now and the warranty is second to none. Although this car is a "sister" to the Kia K5, Kia offers no significant rebates.

I own a 2021 Sonata SEL, white with the panoramic roof. There is no question about the appearance of this car. I get compliments about it all the time. The interior is nice and well thought out. But, I didn't buy this car just to look good I needed a reliable car that I could count on. I'm sorry to say that reliable hasn't happened for me. Currently it has 17, 000 miles on it and a huge list of problems. Intermittent starting problems, front defogger doesn't work, steering wheel worm gear bad, lights on control panel fade in and out, display screen goes black, the remote lock doesn't work it says I have an open door and I don't, bluelink doesn't work etc. All these are covered under warranty but what good is a warranty if you have to wait a month and a half to get an appointment for service? There are 3 dealerships in my area and they are all like that. I can't even get an oil change without waiting over a month. Meanwhile I can't count how many times I have had to try for over an hour to get it to start. Here's the icing on the cake! When I do take it in next week the service advisor told me it may be there for "awhile" and they don't have loaner cars. So I will be taking public transit while my car is in the shop for who knows how long. I am beyond frustrated and regret buying this car. On the bright side it does look good while it's breaking down.

Like others have reported. Multiple electronic faults. The car dangerously shuts off while driving & the front collision breaking sytem randomly tries to stop the car. I’ve owned the car 4 months. All 4 payments have been made while the car sits in service. The service department has no idea what’s happening. I am in the final stages of a lemon law buy back.

I have been looking at several new vehicles the last 3 months. We have owned dozens of cars over the years and when you can be somewhat picky, it can make the decision process a bit daunting. After looking at many many vehicle's, the Sonata Limited seem to fit the bill.

UPDATE AS OF 7/3/21: My car has now been in the shop over 2 weeks. We have contacted Serra Hyundai. The manager, initials J.P., said we would have a resolution by 6/30. We haven't heard from him. We were also told that after putting a claim in through Hyundai, we will receive a call within 10 days. No call. After 2 weeks in the shop, we were called to come pick up the car. It messed up when we started to leave as soon as it was started up. It is STILL in the shop. At this point, it has been in the shop longer than out of the shop. So, after buying the car on 6/3, I drove it for 12 days before breaking down. Please don't waste your time buying from this dealership. If you have a problem with your car, they will NOT help you. UPDATE: After taking the car to my local dealership, the code that is being found that goes with these problems, was given PRIOR to me buying the car. It was cleared out the day I bought it. Bought a brand new 2021 sonata limited. Within 2 weeks, it has messed up 5 times! The dashboard lights up like Christmas morning with warning lights. Of course the dealership can't get it to replicate it when I bring it in. Caught it on my phone camera today. I don't even have the car titled and it's already giving me issues. Of course the dealership I bought from is no help. Don't bother with this car. Yes, it has a good warranty. Apparently I will be using it!!!!! Ridiculous!!!

Impressive value with a few flaws

John Teere, 08/08/2021
2021 Hyundai Sonata Limited 4dr Sedan (1.6L 4cyl Turbo 8A)

When I first saw the 8th-generation Sonata, I was both confused and awed by the blend of elements both classy and modern, by the different impressions conveyed at each angle. Was the Sonata interesting now?? I continue to be impressed by Hyundai's aggressive efforts to evolve its brand, not only staying competitive but earning business by providing remarkable value in terms of features, safety, style, etc., all at an economy price. I have spent about four months with my 2021 Sonata Limited now, and I conclude that overall it's a great value for the price with an impressive attention to detail but a couple of glaring flaws. It certainly looks more expensive than it is with its sleek, refined appearance and luxurious beige-gray interior (depending on which color you get). The Limited trim level also has a sprightly little turbocharged engine and an impressive array of features, not to mention simply being an enjoyable "place to be," as the car reviewers say. All of this constitutes - on paper, at least - a better value for the price than the fully loaded competitors (Camry, Accord, etc.). But I am surprised by the few flaws that did slip through their development process despite the otherwise thorough attention to detail that is evident. First, there is no interior handle with which to close the trunk, encouraging owners to leave fingerprints on the rear paint (I usually close mine by touching one of the taillights). I might even recommend one of these for the hood as well. Second, there is much more road noise than I would expect from this quality of vehicle, which diminishes my enjoyment of the Bose sound system. The third and most glaring flaw is the over-specified suspension system which I find excessively stiff and jittery for what is supposed to be a more luxurious sedan. Certainly it handles corners fairly well despite having significant body roll, but most consumers interested in this car want something more comfortable and will not be driving aggressively enough to justify this level of stiffness. I really like this car in general, but the stiff suspension may lead me to selling it sooner than I had planned. To my understanding the Accord and Mazda6 manage to have sporty handling while still being comfortable, so I would think Hyundai could do the same. Even my 2017 Elantra seemed to have fairly tight suspension (though I never tested its limits) and yet I had no issues with comfort. My theory is that they used essentially the same suspension system for all trim levels of the Sonata so that it would be sporty for the N-Line and average for the others, but as a result it's sporty for everyone. Those with the base model probably don't notice this as they have much more sidewall, but anyone with 17-inch or 18-inch wheels is destined for the chiropractor. So in conclusion, the underdog still has a few things to learn, and my search for an interesting, affordable, yet comfortable commuter car continues.

I was so excited to drive home the beautiful Sonata Limited a few months ago. A week and less than 1000 miles into my experience, the car's dash began to display multiple errors regarding driver features (lane departure, collision avoidance, tire pressure), all in sequence. Sometimes, the speedometer would fluctuate wildly, and even turn off, steering would get light (or very hard). I even had occasional sudden breaking while backing out (for no reason as there was no other cross traffic). I turns out wiring harness issues where causing severe electrical malfunctions that made the car "light up light a Christmas tree" to coin the phrase of Hyundai tech service. I was lucky not to have been in a major accident while driving given the driver malfunctions. The dealer took 5 weeks to solve, spent over 300 miles of testing, hours of idling while troubleshooting. Now I got my "new" car back that been dismantled and put back together twice, has oils stains on seats that I cannot remove and am nervous the repair may be temporary since service department "thinks" found the faulty electrical issues. My new car feels like a clunker now (and forget about the new car smell). Customer service was contacted, they logged my claim but never got back to me as promised by the rep; 3 weeks later I am still waiting. A nice car, nice features does not compensate for poor initial quality and bad customer service. I understand issues pop up with all cars, but a manufacturer stands out in how they treat their customers and provide peace of mind. In this case, Hyundai does not stand out. This car should never have left the quality control department. There's a reason why Toyota and Honda do not have to con customers with lengthy warranties.

To begin, I wanted something with style and character, not a generic car. I also did not want to drive an SUV. The Sonata, particularly the SEL Plus with the Technology Package is am amazing deal when you consider all of the features and technology that comes with the car. The car turns heads and my friends cannot believe how far Hyundai has come. It also get up to 39 MRG on the highway, so I am really pleased with my purchase.

I have the non turbo 2.5. The car seems sluggish on the low end. The radio is malfunctioning at 6K miles and displays an HD station when there is none. The sound seems weak. I could not get the Bose because I did not want the Turbo. A cars warranty is only good if Hyundai would Honors it. As of now Hyundai refuses to fix My radio in My 6-month-old Car. I bought the car New.

From the first day I traded my 2020 Sonata for a 2021 sel Granted I saved $40 a month but whenever it rained the cars anti-collision control system would try to stop the car not fun in Florida while doing 60 on the highway and running into a thunderstorm. I went through the lemon Law process and waiting for the buyback price from Hyundai! Been in a rental since 8/30 now 2/6

We have owned the Sonata for over 2 years now. It has been a surprise pleasure to drive, and the gas mileage seems to be a little unreal. On the highway we are getting between 40 and 45 miles per gallon, and in the city between 35 and 38 miles per gallon.

Bought a 2021 Sonata Hybrid and after only 4 days, it broke down. Returned to the dealer and got a '21 Sonata SEL Plus with the 1.6T engine. Pros: - technology in this car is fantastic. - NO CVT - Great driving position for me Cons: - 1.6T Turbo and/or gearbox has severe lag. Hit the accelerator and wait 1-2 secs for a response. Driving around town was jerky. - 8 speed auto is always fumbling around looking for the right gear. - Seats are heat magnets After 2 months of choppy driving I traded the Sonata for a Mazda 6 and glad I did.

5 months ago I purchased a 2021 Hyundai Sonata. I’m first going to list some of the drawbacks. I’m not a huge fan of the spoiler fin in the back. It has however grown on me a little . The seats are a little hard and I would have preferred more cushion. I would have liked a little more acceleration from from first to second gear, but that’s not a huge issue for me. Ok, now on to the positive aspects of this car. First , the price is relatively cheap for the car you get. It looks like a more expensive car, maybe 10 grand more. The exterior , especially front and side is beautifully designed with sharp lines . The front headlights are very sharp and sporty. A very attractive car . The interior is very spacious , front and back seats. A tall person will be comfortable . The interior fabric and dashboard are of good quality and physically attractive . It is a technologically good car, particularly the safety features ! When you are inside you feel like you are protected in the event of a crash . The engine is relatively quiet and it offers a smooth ride. The handling for a large car is actually surprisingly good , with a good turn ratio. The A.C. Unit is very good , and blows out very cold air ! Better than most cars. It isn’t a gas guzzler and with gas prices going up, that’s one criteria important to me . I used to drive Toyota’s but honestly this car is up there with the Camry if truth be told. I’m a tough critic , but this car doesn’t disappoint. Over all I would highly encourage any potential buyers to get inside and give it a test drive. I think you will be pleasantly surprised . I know I was !!

2021 Sonata hybrid limited issues

After owning a 2012 sonata hybrid. My wife decided she missed hers. So we bought a 2021. While we love most things about the car. Here are the issues we’ve had. 1) noise in the front right side like a break dragging etc. (1) dealership said it was dust on the breaks and needed the brakes cleaned. Now it’s been 30 years since I was in auto mechanics. But I’ve never heard of a car needing brake dust cleaned off the rotors. Especially at 20k Miles. Also not covered by warranty. 2) The radio navigation system locked up 1 hour into a 6 hour drive. After I tried using voice calling on the car. After researching. The only way to fix it was shutting it off for several hours. 3) after having the brakes looked at. My wife went on a 5 hour trip. After returning home. We found that the under cover had came loose. Note she didn’t hit anything. But it also caused the wheel well cover to come loose.(3) Well those don’t just come loose. Ok give me a quote $600. 4) the navigation system Would say Unavailable try again. (4) we’ll see if an update fixes this issue.

I purchased the Phantom Gray .. very pretty color and kinda looks like black with speckles. Nice smooth ride, easy to handle on the road. Its been about 2.5 years later and its still running smoothly. I have no complaints about this car except I wish Hyundai would have the passenger seat able to adjust like the drivers seat. Its kinda silly to have adjustments on just the drivers side unless you pay extra for it. It should be standard.

A very nice car with a lot of safety and tech features. Fun to drive for us Baby Boomers. Downside is a lot of the features are controlled all over the dash and can have a lot of small icons that are hard to find for for a Boomer.. I bought for the extensive safety features, but are being negated by brake problems. Brakes are very grabby and just about impossible to make a gentle smooth stop. Been to dealer twice and they said nothing wrong. FOR THAT REASON WOULD NOT BUY AGAIN!

I really digged the new design on the sonata. I'm coming from an Audi sq5 and I'm not really missing much to be honest. Compared to the Kia, Toyota, Nissan etc offerings I felt like the design and interior were just way above. The Honda offerings come close but I'd still give a little edge to Hyundai. The standard safety features are great to see. Compared to Audi and Sunbury I've driven with lane tracing and adaptive cruise it's the best imo. The Audi constantly thinks your hands are off the wheel and the Sunbury bounces in lanes a little. Love the key fob remote start and the app is somehow miles ahead of the Audi app (Audi app was by far the worst I've used sadly). The turbo has enough pep to keep me happy, and I find the road noise to be great. Really no complaints at all the first couple weeks owning!

I previously had a 2014 Elantra GT and needed an upgrade as my new job was an hour away from home (approximately 60 miles/one way) and I noticed the GT wasn’t handling it too well. I loved the features Hyundai vehicles offered and pricing compared to other makes similar in features. I knew I wanted to stay with Hyundai but I needed something better where I didn’t have to fill the tank 3+/week. Made the choice to go with the Sonata SEL as it had more room compared to the Elantra plus better MPG. Gas tank/MPG on my 2021 SEL allows me to fill my tank only 2/week. Plus the lane control and lane assist help tremendously when most of my driving is at speeds of 70+. This vehicle, in my opinion, would be a suitable choice if looking for reliability on highway conditions. If I really had to find a downside to this sedan, it would probably be the exterior, specifically how the front end is designed. I hadn’t noticed it until a coworker pointed out that the new Sonata looks like a ‘catfish’ from the front and once taking a good look, I agree. For a vehicle who’s performance exceeded my expectations, Hyundai should’ve designed it to match its performance more appropriately. That may literally be my only downside but know it doesn’t change how much I still love my 21 Hyundai Sonata SEL.

I had a 2017 Nissian Altima plagued with transmission problems and decided to buy a 2021 Sonata. The price was great and I was amazed at all the features and how fast it is and how great it handles. The only minor complaint I have is that if you drive with the driver assistance on, it will brake your car if it feels you are too close to the vehicle in front of you which can be a little nerve racking if you are changing lanes in traffic going over 55mph. I suggest turning that feature off if you plan to go high speeds on a highway, but everything else about this car is wonderful and I still give it 5 stars. I have had zero problems for over 60,000 miles. None.

Ive had my 2021 Sonata for 18 months and ive had so many issues with it and everytime i take it for an oil change and mention the problems im having with my car, they never fix or address the issues!! My car had a major chip in the paint, you can clearly tell it chipped off and not hit with another object, but it seems to not be an issue to them. The silver part on my steering wheel is peeling off, along with the buttons that have park reverse and drive. I feel like this car was made out of cheap aluminum foil

For years I was a dedicated Honda driver but after driving the Honda Sonata it changed my mind. The ride is smoother quieter and more comfortable. The Sonata is yards above the Accord. The only thing that the Accord has that I miss is the passenger side camera display but I gladly gave that up for everything that the Sonata offers.

I purchased this 21 sonata on January 1st 2021 and it was not even 6 months that I had the vehicle and they need to put a new motor in it. Was driving and got a check engine light that would not go away. I took it to the shop 2 weeks ago. They can keep that car period 😡😡😡 if they think I’m going to pay for a car that already need a new motor and it’s not even 6 months old.

Outstanding. This is one Outstanding car. I had a 2019 Sonata ltd sedan. Honestly no comparison. The 2021 is an excetion car. Controls organized and set at finger tip reach. Seats are totally comfortable with adjustable settings to please you on any trip long or short. Gas mileage is superior and unrivaled by othrr cars in and above its pricing. Very pleased. I need to mention the ride so quiet and smooth. I was overly disappointed with my 2019 for a conversation was difficult but not in my 2021. Dollar for dollar my satisfaction is off the scale. Yrust me you won't be difficult.

I drove this model for about 1700 miles across very different places in California, a rental. It surely compares well against western cars, but they do not set the standards, even the luxury ones. My own car is a Kia 2019, it has very similar mileage, same comfort but much better technology. This sonata model safety features is a like a nagging girlfriend or mom rushing to start moving when the car ahead start moving when the stop lights turn green, which is not really the safest and best choice. It won't stop "suggesting" to stop to relax for a coffee break after driving like a hundred miles, which would not relax me at all as the night falls or the day just passes by, things to do, while I would just be sitting drinking coffee in some place I never cared to stop. Have no idea why that'd be relaxing. Lazy people may well like that, which there are plenty of. That's all the safety features I noticed in the car. My Kia doesn't nagg. Instead, it has very useful side lights in the mirrors warning about incoming vehicles in the blind spots. Sonata was unable to connect to my iPod, I had to connect my iPod a radio interfering device, which obviously did not work in most places. A lot of fun screwed. My Kia, and former Honda cars, do connect well to devices. It would've been a nightmare to buy this brand new car of moderate price just to get a naggy junk that does not do what I want or would like to get, instead just naggs on and on.

I had to get a replacement car right away when my 2006 Camry blew a head gasket. The repair would have equaled the value of the car. After a week of almost frantic looking I did the unthinkable and looked at the Enterprise Care sales lot and found this bright red 2021 Sonata Hybrid I had been keeping the Camry expecting to buy a hybrid in another 1-2 years. Despite the seller's market. I was able to get this thru Enterprise at a very reasonable price and their processing fee of $399 with a 12 month/12,000 mile full warranty made the new car dealers look like pirates! Only time will tell if I got a great deal, but for now I am very happy!

Seems to be a typical Hyundai (I've owned several and I loved them until now), well built, incredible fuel milage, but poor technology. I'm not sure who decided "Car play" was a good idea (cell phone reception never fails, right?) and the "Smart Cruise Control" is probably the worst system I have ever had the misfortune to have on an automobile. Bends on bridges on country roads and the car slams on the brakes because it thinks the railings are stopped vehicles. If someone straddles the lines in front of you even when there is plenty of room, the car looses it mind. Beeping, braking, messages flashing all over the dash board. Nothing like distracting you with unnecessary warnings during the time you should be paying the most attention. I have been driving for over 40 years, including over a million accident free commercial miles. The safety features in this car are designed for poor drivers, and I suppose for them it works well enough but for anyone who enjoys driving, those same features are a disaster. Pleas, please, please set things up so this junk can be turned off.

Very pleased with my purchase, however, I am a bit biased having been a fan of Hyundai for a long while, (having owned 6 other Hyundai's over the last couple decades). Smooth ride, power enough for any driving need, great technologies, great safety features.

I recently upgraded to a 2025 Sonata from my 2021, because my experience with my 2021 was (mostly) very positive. There is way more good with the Sonata than there is with the bad, including: an elegant interior with premium amenities, great pickup/responsiveness, slick handling, a gorgeous exterior, surprisingly good fuel economy, and a quiet ride. And the best part? The Hyundai dealership experiences are all wonderful, with great customer service and a desire to help customers. So, why not give this vehicle 5-stars? Well, that was a very difficult decision, but it ultimately came down to two things: comfort and interior build quality. As someone who is over 6 feet tall, the 2021 Sonata was not the most accommodating in the driver's seat. For passengers, sure, but the angle of the infotainment system propped my leg towards the center enough to not be as ergonomic as it could have been. Additionally, the seats are not as plush as competitors or even other Hyundai vehicles. However, worse than that was the interior build quality: things just wore out more quickly than they should have. Over time, more and more components got loose/creaky, and certain components began rattling or popping out from their placements. The steering wheel was also victim to creaking/crackling over time. Ultimately, it was these rattles that led me to upgrade my car. However, despite these cons, I had no regrets in purchasing my Hyundai Sonata. It was a truly wonderful experience and kept me loyal to the Hyundai brand for my next vehicle.
