This is one great car. Hyundai has gotten everything right. I have owned 28 cars in my life including Mercedes (awful), Audi, Lincoln, Avalon, etc., and this Sonata does not disappoint. This my second Sonata.....the first being a 2011. The most noticeable improvement is the increased level of quietness. The 2011 had an unacceptable level of tire noise intruding into the cabin on coarse roads. The 2013 is almost silent on most city streets and measurably quieter at speed. Wind noise is non existent. UPDATE: The car is now 3.5 years old (I will very likely get a 2017 in December). The passenger seat on this one as well as my 2011 sits far too low. I give an extra seat cushion to female friends so that can see out! Car does not have electric seats, and no manual raise/lower. The Bluetooth has been the only weak spot. It often cannot understand my dialing instructions. Incoming calls are fine (and no, I am not driving when I speak on the phone!) It will play music from my iPhone if it feels like it. Hyundai dealer has replaced the radio system twice with no improvement. They say the fault has been with the manufacturer of the system. I continue to love this car and "they and thought of everything" plays through my head every time I drive it.

Has some issues with the sales team at the local dealership (but that's not the car's fault). I struggled with the idea of buying a Hyundai but after lots of researching and test drives, it was hard to deny the value. You get a lot of car for the price. I'm 6'2" so the Elantra was a bit tight for me, but the Sonata is a really comfortable ride. It's not built for drag racing, could be peppier off the line but beyond that it can move and the steering is really responsive. The finishes, exterior and interior, are really nice. I've had it for 2 months now and am very happy with the car!

This is my third Sonata, a 2007, 2010, now a 2013. Each is better than the last. I have the Limited with the 2.0 Turbo. It is as fast as the old muscle cars, but smoother and more conomical. Interior is nicer than in the past, dash layout is good and the instrument panel lighting is very sharp. Seats are comfortable and both front and back are heated. Compared to my V-6 Sonata, I'm getting 3 to 4 mpg better milage and with better performance. As for reliability, none of my Sonatas ever needed warranty service. The style is better than cars costing twice as much. Every time I park next to a luxury car, I still prefer the Sonata styling and the high quality of the pain

I bought my car in November 2014 with 47 000 miles. It is an appealing car, that competes with Toyota Camry, Honda Accord , Nissan Maxima etc. Overall it is decent car with a lots of features even in a basic trim (GLS) model line. Decent acceleration and braking, plenty of interior and cargo space and decent overall reliability. The good: Appealing design, easy access to basic maintenance, ease access to spark plugs oil change and filters as well as battery and belt maintenance. Decent acceleration 195HP from basic 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine. Decent braking and great list of safety features ( airbags, ESP stability control, ABS as well as good crash tests. Great interior and cargo space, decent size mirrors and good visibility. Price per value. The bad: Handling/ impossible to align geometry/steering. ( Car is slightly toed out, even within the specs per manufacturer-tried to align tooo many times with dealer as well as independent parties). As an result, car need tiny, yet constant steering corrections, which leads to fatigue in longer trips. basically car cannot go exactly straight in higher speed on Hwy. Jerky transmission shifts. Bad body roll. Lesser than advertised MPG . Uncomfortable seats, paint peeling from steering wheel. Road noise, even with Michelin high end tires. Fuel economy not 24/35 in reality City 20/Hwy 30.. it is pretty bad for 4 cylinder naturally aspirated engine. Overall car need a lot to be desired and even a low price tag does not justify shortcomings in design and quality control. Shall you have any questions hit me up.

I love the car. I work with Dealers from All over the world. ( I do NOT work for a Hyundai Dealership) but I do work with dealerships from every vehicle type on the road. The only draw back is the passenger seat sits low. They need to put an adjustment control on the seat just like the driver seat. I'm 5'8" & driving so I didn't notice it until my sister who is only 5'1" said I can't see out the front window, so I gave her a pillow to sit on. My Father is 6'3" & he sat in the back seat with no problem at all. He said he had enough room to stretch out his Long Legs.

I bought this car with the popular package which was pretty good with heated front seats, power drivers seat and alloy wheels. (Can't stand hubcaps). I also got the power rear view mirror. Overall, I am satisfied. The one issue I have is that the steering is electronic power and does not have the center detente. Wherever you point it, it goes. So it does not center itself when you let go of the wheel. This is OK when I don't think about it, but has a disconcerting affect if I do. However, for the money, this is a great car. I frequently rent cars for my job, and the Hyundai Sonata has always been a favorite. If you iphone, you will like the options. I prefer playing through bluetooth.

That's the name I have dubbed my 2013 Sonata. Was looking for something more fuel efficient after my trusty 4runner was totaled. Cross shopped some small SUVs and midsize sedans. In the end, the Sonata had the right mix of value, style, and performance. Rode better than the Tucson, CX 5 suvs. More personality and value vs Camry and Accord and more comfortable than Altima.

Only had it 5 months but so far it has been nearly perfect. Limited visibility out the back and some road noise (not all of it bad, nice little engine hum); lower gas mileage but have taken no long trips and my commute is a nightmare so maybe MPGs are OK. Got Limited turbo with premium package and cannot imagine getting a finer car for the money I paid. Rides well; handles great; very fast and responsive, I love this car.

The Hyundai Sonata is exactly what I found for the price I paid. It has an amazing, engine and great power. Its spacious and reliable. I don't know what others people are writing about the bad mpg. When I drive, I get 26 city and 33 on highway. It gives me more mpg than my wife's Camry. But this all depends on how you maintain the car and how you drive it. If you go crazy on the gas pedal and don't do schedule maintenance, of course you are going to eat more gas and get bad mpg. People need to go easy, a Sonata is not a sports car. Overall, the Sonata is a great car that offers more for the money than its competitors. For my next car, I will definitely buy another Hyundai.

Bought it new in '13 and after 90,000 it's still a great car. Replaced the brakes all around and put on tires, other than that have done nothing to it. Gas mileage has been excellent 20's around town and mid to upper 30's on the road. Have gotten over a little over 40 once but consistently 35+ MPG if you will keep it under 80. Good acceleration and rides very well. The sound system is just ok but overall this is a great car!

Well, I bought the car about 3 weeks ago and i find it attractive and quite sporty for a 4 cylinder. The ride is smooth, absorbs bumps pretty well but the road noise is a little loud. The interior of the car was mint, well taken care of. All the controls are where you would expect them to be. The screen for this model entertainment system could have been bigger and come with back up assist, but alas no...The blue lights are nice and overall the car has been fun to drive without much fuss. The only thing I did notice was the power steering seems a bit sticky when you turn the wheel, very touchy. I am very satisfied with my purchase and thank Edmunds for the help...

First of all I had a 2011 Hyundai before this one ! Now, I think this is a great vehicle ! I love the heated leather seats! Plus the Blue Link app is great to have in the winter! I have the sun roof which I would give up for either the rear camera or navigation! The gas Milage around town isn't the greater but great on the highway ! I am keeping this vehicle after the lease but will buy another in the future! I gave this Sonata to my granddaughter and bought a 2020 Hyundai Sonata new out of the show room in May of 2021!

Updated my review... I have own multiple vehicles over the years. I average 100 miles a day just going to my office. I also drive that vehicle for my job. I average about 35,000 miles a year. I have never gotten rid of any before 250,000 miles and never had any major issues with any of my previous vehicles. At 103,000 miles in this 2013 Sonata, the main bearing burnt up. Originally I was told my a mechanic that it was the oil pump. (Took it a different place to have the engine replaced.) The engine has been burning oil since 40,000, at 60,000 the engine starting chattering. The transmission has been slipping since 80,000 miles. I've heard that Hyundai's engineering/manufacturing has come a long way, but they still have a long way to go. As soon as I replace the oil pump, it's getting traded in for anything but a Hyundai or Kia.

Beware of 2013 Sonata remote starter kit defect

Bought my car in May. Everything is excellent with the car EXCEPT OEM remote starter kit had major defect if installed in the 2013 Sonata. Purchased kit during sale. Needed to wait 4-6 weeks before 2013 kits were available. When it was available, Hyundai dealership installed it but it failed (i.e., would actually turn engine off). Dealership informed me wiring instructions were wrong from Hyundai. Dealership kept car for 2 weeks and couldn't figure out problem. Regional technician came in and also couldn't figure it out either. Dealership removed unit and returned car back to factory default. Finally got my money back.

From Camry XLE to Hyundai Sonata Limited

Had been driving Toyota Camries for the last 20 years. The new 2012 Toyota Camry styling just did not do it for me. I liked the Sonata exterior styling much more. The car is good looking and fun to drive. Rides nice and looks great. The Nav option is very nice; only complaint being the special cord required for IPOD use. The 2.4 engine is ample in power; a concern I had since I was coming from the V6. Gas mileage at this point not great, but still in break in period. Given that the Hyundai comes with a very good warranty it is discouraging and concerning that the dealer pushes hard on the extended warranty for a sizable sum of money; makes you wonder about the service aspects.

2013 Sonata burning oil

I loved my 2002 Elantra. I needed a larger vehicle so I bought a brand new 2013 Sonata. My Sonata started burning oil around 36,500 miles. I have been going back a fourth to the dealership doing oil consumption tests. After 3 tests, it has burned up 4.5 quarts in about 2,000 miles. I still can't get anyone to fix the problem. Instead, the dealership says I need to do 1,000 more miles of oil consumption tests and corporate says I need to do 3,000 more miles of oil consumption tests. The warranty sounds great but good luck with getting them to fix anything that is covered.

I drive this car for 2 years now, engine broke down after 63000 miles but Hyundai replaced the engine for free because of the recall, unfortunately I didn't had the car for 3 weeks and Hyundai didn't give me a rental car and were ignoring me when I called them up, very upset about that, but now everything works perfect.

If you are a new car buyer and plan to own car for 10 yrs maybe but beware if you but pre-owned the warranty isn't worth the paper it's writtem on, trust me I have a 3 yr old pre owned Sonata! Warranty aside, I have never owned a car that has had as many problems as my Sonata! Hardly 3 years on the list of failures are a yard long! Worst car I've owned! There is a reason they market their cars on their so called warranty, it's because so much IS going to go wrong with the car! The list: air bag! (seriously this component is never used and yet it fails? How does a component that is never used become defective?), a/c: every part you could think of!, actuator, power seats. I've had at least 6 problems that were covered under warranty, yet the hazzle, it's not as if Hyundai will give you a loner!

Update on March 19, 2020: This car has been performing great for me. I have not had to take it for any major repairs. It's been faithful. I've owned this car since May 2015 and overall I love it. My wife owns a 2012 Toyota Camry and I get equivalent mpg on both cars. The only thing I have reservations on the Sonata is that when I play music through Bluetooth it does not show the metadata on the LCD screen, just the name of the phone while my wife's camry does. Otherwise I love this car. Addendum: It's been over a year since I got this car and I'm still loving it. I changed the tires and this made the ride a lot quieter. Addendum (March 2017): I still love the car. Recently added remote start in winter. Since I like seeing the metadata of the songs I'm playing from my phone to car's bluetooth and this car does not display metadata I leave my phone screen on so I can see the track playing. Just a minor inconvenience. Addendum (March 2018): I still own the car and have not had any issues with it.

Gas Mileage Off by 1/3, total misrepresentation

When I was shopping for a new car, I was only shopping because I was taking a new position, and mileage was a huge factor. Bottom line, Hyundai advertised 35 mpg on 2013 Sonata, driving like a granny with almost 100% highway miles, the best I ever got was 26 mpg, but usually 25 mpg or less. At almost 14,000 miles on it, I'm looking to trade it even though I have a wrap around 100,000 mile warranty with zero deductible. I cannot drive a car for 100,000 when I was flat out lied to about mileage, for which they've already settle one lawsuit, and they still do it.

Ive owned many vehicles in my lifetime but this 2013 Sonata has had so many repairs in it's 30k miles that it has broken the bank. Hyundai doesn't honor much of their warranty. I've had to shell out thousands and I feel overwhelmed with all the repairs. No other car I've ever had has had so many problems. I recommend you dont buy one as there is a reason why they are so cheap, they are completely useless in the real world where people need reliable transportation.

Just bought my ’13 Sonata SE on 12/31/12, and so far I’m in love. The gas mileage calculator is ticking up steadily as I get past the initial leadfoot (it’s plenty fast, even without the turbo…) test drive miles, so I’m curious to see where it levels out. I hear that it takes up to several thousand miles worth of driving before the mileage really gets where it’s supposed to be, I will likely update this in a few months with that knowledge, as well as doing manual calculations when I go to the gas pump. I commute back and forth a total of 80 miles a day, 99% in highway traffic; even with the SE suspension and the low profile 18” tires, the ride is pleasantly firm rather than harsh- even over expansion joints and through construction zones along the interstate. It’s likely that a GLS or Limited would ride softer, with the slightly different suspension and taller-sidewall tires, so if cloudlike ride quality is a concern, consider that. For my money, I prefer the SE. Radio display could maybe be a little better. I’m still not 101% used to how it’s all laid out, though, so my opinion here may change. Blue backlighting is nice, auto-adjusting to ambient light conditions as the automatic headlights go on and off I could take or leave, I think. I will be digging into the manual to see if that is a setting I can adjust. That said, my phone paired to the stereo in about 10 seconds and calls through the mic/speakers in the car are easy to hear and easy to be heard, which is a good thing. Stereo on my particular SE sounds good and although it doesn’t seem to really crank (I think I have the 104 watt base stereo), that’s OK, the car is quiet enough at highway speed that it doesn’t have to. Need to read the directions and get all my stuff figured out and set up there, find some XM stations I like, etc. I’ll wait a while before I tear into the radio like I tend to do in most of my vehicles- but again, it’s 100% serviceable as is, and with plenty of connectivity (Bluetooth, aux input jack, etc) besides. My particular vehicle also has the BluLink connection – to be honest, beyond “Hyundai-brand OnStar,” I don’t even really know what this is or how I’d use it- another thing to look in the manual for. Nice touch if you’re looking for it and/or had something like it on a previous vehicle. The driver’s seat is comfortable and easy to adjust, and the cloth material on the center section of the seat has kept me in place well, no sliding around like a full leather seat can sometimes cause. Heated seats are a nice thing – never would have picked that as an option living in AL like I do, but my wife loves them and during our brief winter I’m sure I’ll love them too. Used them this morning. Also worth noting is that Hyundai is smart- lots of people with Sonatas are going to have a kid or two (three in my case) in back, at least occasionally. The back side of the driver and passenger seats (at least in the SE) appear to be leather/leatherette – that way you can wipe off the marks from dirty shoes, etc., if any happen to get put there. Cloth might have been cheaper to install, but that one little touch will cause the car to look nicer, longer. Same story on the armrest areas on the doors and the armrest on the console – all appear to be covered in material that will wear well, which is a good sign in my book. While I’m on the interior, I’ll note here that I’m 6’2” and generally automatically move any seat, in any car, all the way to the back. My new Sonata is the first car I can ever remember not needing to do that in. Front legroom is excellent, and even more to the point, so is REAR legroom, even when I have the seat where I’ll need it. If things go according to plan, by the time I get rid of this car, those little boys won’t be little any more, so this was important to me. As a lifelong manual transmission prefer-er, my left foot keeps looking for something to do, but I am enjoying the paddle shifters just as well as manually rowing the gears- and I’ll admit that it’ll be nice to be able to let the car do the shifting whenever I happen to get stuck in the occasional traffic jam. One of my reasons for preferring a manual transmission is the simplicity argument- it’s one less thing to break years down the road. Here’s hoping I never have to use it, but the long powertrain warranty Hyundai offers was one of the reasons I was able to get my own head around buying an automatic- the paddle shift ability is just a bonus for me. The trunk is utterly cavernous. I don’t golf and don’t really know anyone who does, so I won’t use the usual “holds _ golf bags!” metric, but those three boys I mentioned earlier like to eat. Groceries for our family are sometimes a two-cart affair coming out of the store. The old Montero Sport we had before had plenty of space for anything we wanted to put in it, but I’d be amazed if this car had any less- comparing the space below the back of the rear seats in the Mitsu vs. the trunk in the Sonata, just from looking at it, I’d say the Sonata probably actually has more space. I won’t be throwing any sheets of plywood in here (I have an old pickup for that…), but I don’t think I’ll ever wish for a bigger trunk for anything one could reasonably expect to transport by car. These are my initial impressions on a car I’ve had only a couple days, but I shopped casually for a long time (18 months?) while squeezing the last utility out of our old SUV, and I drove the Sonata back to back with an Accord and a Camry. The Hyundai was every inch the car as both of those, and better in most cases. Hyundai is for real. If you’re like me and remember with amused horror the Excel and other terrible mid-90s Hyundai’s, do yourself and your wallet a favor and drive a new one. I think you’ll come away pleasantly surprised. Leveraging last-day-of-year and having Edmunds.com TMV looked up on my phone, I was able to confidently negotiate a great price for a great car that should serve my family for years.

Gas Mileage not adding up

My main reason to buy a Hyundai Sonata was because I had the 2001 model that never gave me any real issues so to go to the latest model was a no brainier. However I am not that impressed with the engine technology. Considering that my 2001 sonata got around 24 mpg with a six cylinder engine. I thought that the 24c-35h that was on the sticker would be the way to go. I live in Fort Myers and sometimes have to drive to Ft Laud. I figured this would be a perfect test to check the gas mileage. I filled my car with premium gas and set the cruise control to 70 mph. Oh and also turned on the ECO control. Started the 110 mile test at 25.3 mph but finished at 23.9mpg. I lost mileage. That is not good.

12/29/2021 update The Pandemic has me driving very little for 2 years. I have gotten normal maintenance issues performed; oil and filter changed and tires rotated. Currently 58,239 miles, about 4800 miles in the last 1.5 years. 06/28/2020 update Had radio replaced $900 that only cost me $25 because I bought the extended warranty. That is 83% of what I paid for the warranty so it is paying for itself. No other new issues or repairs to report. Running like a top. I'm getting about 10% better overall mpg than when I bought it at 33,323 miles. currently, 53,400 miles total on the car . 06/27/2018 update Nothing to update, no new issues or repairs to report. . 12/19/2017 update Minor repairs during 10,000 miles since buying car. Needs brake job normal for 45,000 miles Highway mpg at 60mph is 34 It took totaling my previous car to be able to get this one. Design in 2011 took auto design by storm. From Chevy to BMW everyone over the past 5 years has changed their design to similar to Sonata's aggressive slant forward design. I have only owned the car for 30 days, but have really fallen in love and only found minor little irritants and nothing that is difficult or a problem. All of the dash design and electronics are very intuitive.

Some good and compromised quality issues

I own a Hyundai Sonata 2013 Limited and have put 18 K miles on it. Hyundai Sonata is a solid car overall with a powerful engine, great design and several added features for a lower price. It also has very good safety ratings (which hopefully will not be tested while I am on the road). But to gain on these aspects, there are some compromises made by the company in making this car, which are pretty glaring and somewhat annoying.

when I first got the car I loved it. that was before I went on the highway. on the highway the car is dangerous!! not safe! steering is very sensitive and it is hard to keep the car in the lane. bad design and i'm very surprised that no one crushed this car on the highway yes and there is not a recall. after I discover the problem I called the sales person and she told me that it is normal, bc of the electric steering power...what kind of nonsenses is this? I drove Hondas for the last 15 years but fell in love with this car on the test drive and the price was great. so for now I will say. great city car and that's it!!

The 2013 Sonata is a very nice looking car. I traded in a 2010 Elantra for the Sonata. The Elantra is a much better car than the Sonata. The Sonata has a very rough ride, especially at highway speeds. I expect this to lead to abnormal tire wear. The GPS/Radio/Bluetooth/AC combination is poorly designed and difficult to use. The combination design gives you control over one function at a time. For example, when the navigator is active and you receive a call, the navigator goes to the background. If you are on the call when you need to make a turn, you will miss it. The voice recognition feature is absolutely horrible. I have gone to using an external GPS and avoid using the built-in

For some reason I purchased a Turbo Sonota and wondered why since I'm 65. But, since I've been driving it I'm finding it is really fun. Very smooth and powerful. I leave most folks in the dust. I've had Elantra's and Tucson's and this is a pocket rocket. I was spoiled by the Tuscon's easy in and out because it is so high. But, I'm adjusting to the lower Sonota. The regular Sonota was fast enough so you really don't need all this extra power but it sure is fun and not too hard on your wallet, gas wise. And. it really is easy on the eyes. My brother looks at it and says, man, that's one beautiful car.

in 2016, I purchased my beautiful Remington Red 2013 Huyndai Sonata with bluetooth, back up camera and a panaramic roof. Fell in love with the car instantly! In 2017 there was a recall on the engine and before I could get it to the dealership, the engine blew. It was replaced and handed back to me running great. So here we are again in 2019 and I received an email about the car engine needing a system update. Low and behold, before I was able to get the car back to the dealership, the car quit on me. I thought it was something minor and had to ahve it towed to the dealership. Called a few days later to see what the problem was and I was told it was the engine AGAIN. So currently i am waiting for the ,engine to be replaced for the second time in 3 years. UPDATE May 05,2020 I cannot stress the fact that this is the worse car I have ever purchased. My panoramic roof (which I’ve barely used) will open but it won’t shut unless it’s forced. The tail lights keep going out and I was told that these cars have wiring issues that cause this problem. My back up camera no longer works. The screen is blue. This car is only 7 years old. I can’t trade it in because I owe so much on it (my fault) IM JUST OVER IT!

Owned gls with pop package for six months now. Fantastic car in this segment. Perfect performance everytime. Remote start installed and have had 0 problems. No adjustments, no glitches. Tire noise on rough roads gets a bit noisy, but mainly due to low resistance tires enhancing road noise. Smooth road....like butta! Suspension smooth and controlled, but not floaty. No rattles, squeeks, noises..(except loose objects in top of console will rattle.). Placed liner in and rattling stopped. Many dress up options on ebay, including chrome wheel skins for only 69.00 set of four. Car looks expensive, but doesn't give buyers remorse. Tons of room, seats comfortable. MPG 23/35 avg with eco.

Overall, this car is not worth buying. Plagued with rattles and wind noise right off the lot, and more importantly, the steering. The Sonata's steering is entirely too sensitive and requires constant correction on the highway. Don't let the dealer tell you it's because it has electric power steering, this is not why something is wrong with the steering. Go drive another car with electric power steering and you will find it to be worlds more comfortable to control than the Sonata. My arm is literally tired from keeping it in a straight line. If you go on a test drive, try staying in the middle of your lane; it is impossible. This steering problem is a safety issue.

Gas mileage is lower than I had hoped, but most of my driving is 80% city, still getting a respectable 22.5/mpg. At 60mph I get 35mpg which gives at least a 425-75 minimum mile range. . Acceleration is responsive, and there is an eco-control to provide better gas mileage. Brakes seem to work in an emergency stop well, on both dry and wet surfaces. I highly recommend utilizing the age-old formula of at least one car length per 10mph in front of you, more for wet and double for black or regular icy conditions. . Overall, very, very comfortable front seats. I would like more extended thigh support, but the seat end is firm enough to assist in turning my knees apart for additional support - plenty of room to do that. . Both front seats have On/Off seat heaters - a blessing for people with lower back troubles. The driver seat has 8-way power control with additional power lumbar controls. . The steering wheel has both up/down and manual telescoping controls providing more than enough choices for comfort and safety. . Other than the last used, there are no memory settings for anything. . Despite some consumer magazines reviews about a difficult and insufficient small view with small C-pillar windows and large C pillars, between the view there coupled with both outside mirrors ^and^ looking back over those sides should an almost 270-degree view of safety with only about 5-10 feet at the blindest spot+. . Controls are straightforward and intuitive. Mine doesn't have the larger screen with a backup camera (which every future car of mine will have). There is a seemingly endless supply of after-market cameras - some work very well. They are available in both wireless ones that use your cell phone, and wired ones that do the same. . Single climate control, but the blower is powerful enough with enough combinations of controls and vents to circulate very well and quickly. . Overall, very, very comfortable front seats. I would like more extended thigh support, but the seat end is firm enough to assist in turning my knees apart for additional support - plenty of room to do that. Sirius XM radio is available, and makes full use of the powerful sound system. There are 18 memory settings for satellite, and the same for conventional AM/FM. . The radio connects via either Bluetooth or a direct USB plug to your cell phone (both Android and iPhone). This also allows the usage of the phone through the sound system. Only use while the vehicle is not in motion. In some states (like CA) its illegle to do. I haven't yet discovered how to fast forward either the cell phone or the built-in single cd player. . Overall review score, 9/10

I purchased my 2013 Sonata with 24k miles on it and I never had any issues with the car until around 65k miles when the engine seized while driving on the freeway with no warning. I have always kept up on all maintenance and always on time. Shortly after I discovered there have been many recalls for this car and engine failure is one of them. I believe this is the second time it's happened and I'm still waiting to hear back from the hyundai manufacturer. The cost to replace the engine is about $7,000. First and last time ever buying a hyundai.

Efficient, Reliable, and Drivable

J. Savage, 07/16/2018
2013 Hyundai Sonata GLS 4dr Sedan (2.4L 4cyl 6A)
3 of 3 people found this review helpful

The best features of the 2013 Sonata are its fuel efficiency, its reliability, and its "drivability." According to the car's dash display, the car has measured at 35-40 mpg on longer road trips and averages around 28-30 mpg combined. Having had the car for 6 years almost and having driven over 100k miles, I expected to have made at least one major repair by now but that has not been the case. The largest "problem" we have encountered was a burnt taillight assembly. The acceleration on the car is not always the best, especially when driving up any sort of incline, but the car handles well at all times, brakes efficiently, and the engine is more than capable of sustaining power on level ground. One drawback would be cargo space (although there is quite a bit of space in the trunk it cannot always fit awkward or bulky items well, such as strollers and yard work tools). Another drawback is the deterioration of some aesthetic features; some of the plastic on the steering wheel components peels with normal use and the cloth seats also show signs of wear even without extreme use. Overall I would suggest the 2013 Sonata to those who are looking for a fuel efficient, reliable vehicle that performs to average standards.

I really love my Sonata, turbo. It is very stylish and gets great mileage. I drive to the Jersey coast during the summer, it's a flat, straight drive at 65 MPH standard which means everyone drives at 75. I can get 37 MPG at 70 MPH in cruise control. I've checked this a half dozen times already. I'm positive this will improve with a K&N air filter. It's very responsive, can hardly hold it back. I thought I'm really going to get in trouble speeding on I-95 with this car but so far I lucked out. Love the price and warranty. Last car was a 07 Tucson which I also liked but not the mileage. Owned it three years now and no problems. Two thumbs up and a smile. 2017 and I still love it. Just put Michelin tires on it for a quiet smooth ride. With the rear seat down I can get my bicycle in plus containers of clothing for the trips to the shore. Even though it has had two recalls, I am glad they are on top of things which are kinda minor anyway. They were taken care of quickly, no charge. #happy. I sold the car a couple years ago. 2018 and still happy but starting to look for a new vehicle with newer technology. will wait until Dec. 30 to buy a new car. Best time to buy. bought a 2020 Honda CRV Very happy.

This is our third Hyundai Sonata. It gets just terrible gas mileage. The two previous Sonatas got much better mileage. Went back to dealer and got this answer from the technician. There were no codes showing a problem and 19.9 city and 27 highway is acceptable. Called Hyundai and got nowhere. This is not acceptable. This is my last Sonata. Herb
