Leaks
I purchased a used 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe with 5500 miles on it for 18,900 and then it rained saturating the rugs on the driver's side with water. Two days later it was back at the dealership. They put it through the car wash and said the leak was coming from the door and that it would be ready in two days. They then called and said they were going to keep it two weeks. I took it back home waxed it and kept it in the garage. Last Saturday it poured, I had left it outside and again the rugs were saturated with water. Resealing of the windshield didn't work. This experience has soured me on Hyundais although I really liked the feel and large cargo area. Carmax took the vehicle back.
Looks nice-don't be fooled. Worst car ever
I've owned several Toyotas. My last was a 2007 Highlander Limited that I bought used in 2016 with 110K miles on it. It was totaled by a hit and run driver in February. At the time, it had 135K miles. I had to buy another car in a hurry, and based on the CarFax, and low miles (110K miles), I bought a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited. I thought 'it's a year newer than my Toyota was when I bought it, should be fine.' Wrong choice. This car looks nice, but in less than 4 months, I spent $500 on door gaskets-they evidently wear out at about the 110K mark. Also had to replace the rack and pinion assembly---it was leaking ($1500). The dealership probably used shoe goo, or something like that to seal it because the leak didn't start for 3 months-once the weather got warm. The leather upholstery and the seat fixtures are also falling apart, and the gas tank release has to be opened from the trunk because the switch in the door doesn't work properly. So in less than six months, I've spent $2000 on the car, and who knows what will be next? In the nearly five years I owned the Highlander, I did not spend that much money. I got regular oil changes, replaced the windshield wipers, and had just changed the tires ($700) a month before the accident. The leather interior was worn in places, but the fixtures weren't falling apart and the door seal gaskets weren't unhinged from the frame. It's no wonder Hyundai offers such a generous warranty-100K miles, they know the car has built in obsolescence. The car is a piece of junk. My hope is to pay it off next year, and get something made by a reliable manufacturer, like Toyota or Honda. 2022 update: Had to replace the rack and pink on steering again. Still working remotely, so I drive fewer than 9k miles per year-if that, on paved streets. It periodically makes a screeching sound when I start it—no one can figure out why. My update is that it is still the worst car/brand ever. Will never buy another.

Great value for your money
Our Santa Fe has everything to offer for our family of four. Really smooth ride and very fuel-effcient for it's size. Only thing is the engine's reliability . Only 10500 miles and already there is a small oil leak. I'm taking it into the Dealer to get it looked at, but I must say I'm disappointed that a brand new car would already start leaking oil.... :-( Overall, I recommend the car for what it has to offer at a reasonable price. Only flaw about the interior is the lack of an auxiliary port, but I found out that the 09 models were equipped with this, standard. Should of waited a lil longer :-/
Excellent Value
After 1000 miles I am still impressed with this SUV. It has a car-like feel with a hint of luxury. Quick when it needs to be, corners well and has sleek curves. I paid $22,900 which represents an excellent value for the features and ride.
Much better than expected
Never thought I'd buy a Hyundai (after many Toyotas, Hondas and recently Subarus), but the 2008 Santa Fe Ltd. had all the features, mpg, comfort and room I was looking for. I'm getting 22 mpg average, and everything is rock solid after 3k miles. This car is *quiet* inside, and everything feels well thought out and well put together. The Ltd. has a great stereo, quality leather, all the options, and looks and feels like a Lexus EX. The CR-V and RAV4 are nice, but smaller and less comfortable - and they cut corners and it feels like it. The Santa Fe is less $, but nowhere does it feel cheap, and I continue to find things that make me say "hey, that's nice they thought of that."
