Corrosion in thefirst month

Only 450 miles on a new car and the dash displayed collision warning lights, low tire pressure, no turn signal indicators and went black. The vehicle spent 10 days at a certified Hyundai dealership while they and the factory tried to determine the cause. After the whole dash assembly and drivers console were removed, a "corroded" wire in the wiring harness was discovered and repaired. Make one wonder how does corrosion get in the wiring harness of a new car, and are there more wires affected, and how many other new Hyundai vehicles may have the same problem lurking. Hyundai America has refused to take this lemon back. This is my family's third and "last" Hyundai product.

Purchased a new 2024 Hyundia Elantra SEL in spring of 2024. I drive for work, so obviously wanted a new, dependable car right? Wrong. 1st oil change 2 months later in May at 5k miles, at the dealer. Went fine, next week car is out of coolant. Leaky thermostat. Ok no problem, Drop if off at dealer for warranty work, says it will be done in a week. Wrong again. About 2 months later after hardly any updates I finally get it back. Hyundia customer service agents deserve a negative score. ONE DAY after getting it back, I notice water sounds in the floor. Sounds like a gallon of water sloshing back and forth every stop/acceleration. Again, bring it back to dealer, which were not able to provide a rental car again in a decent time period. Dealer says they will check it next day. WRONG. 2 weeks until I get car back, and guess what, it still makes the sound. This entire time I have been in contact with the dealer I bought the car from - ZERO help. Also in contact with Hyundai Customer Support - ZERO help. This car is advertised as dependable, I have had the complete opposite experience. I have bought used cars from people off of Facebook and had better customer support than from HYUNDAI. Its a cheap car, gets great MPG, but loads of issues, every interior body panel rattles it seems like, and the paint quality is garbage. If you want a dependable car from my experience, steer clear of a 2024 Hyundai Elanatra.

Great Car for What It Is

2023 Hyundai Elantra SEL 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl CVT)

I've had the Elantra for about 2000 miles. Like the title says, great car for what it is. An inexpensive commuter car. Easy on the eyes, easy on the wallet. The pros are the looks, the cost, the MPG and the insane amount tech you get for the price. The cons are the engine isn't terribly engaging and I don't like CVTs. Also, the interier is one place you really feel the lower cost, but it's ok. My biggest complaint, is that it comes with really cheap wipers that were screeching across the windshield like nails on a chalkboard from day one - even when it rained. I had to replace them within the first month. All in all, very happy with the purchase. I plan to drive it until my 11 year old gets his license and then he can have it.

My 5th new Hyundai

Cass, 09/09/2022

I previously purchased four Sonatas and love the Hyundai product, especially the BlueLink feature that allows remote actions from an app on my Smartphone. I decided to downsize to the Elantra. It is very easy to handle, giving me the feeling of good control. The basic model is equipped with many standard features that were on my upgraded 2019 Sonata. The only negative is currently there is limited inventory which hinders getting a great deal, so be prepared to pay more, even if the car is smaller.

The long and the short of it

2023 Hyundai Elantra N Line 4dr Sedan (1.6L 4cyl Turbo 7AM)

I, for one, had one of the first original N Line models made for the US, a 2020 Elantra GT N Line which is an upgraded Elantra Sport. That car was nearly perfect. It had the Technology package that included the panoramic sunroof and ventilated seats. Over the course of the past two years, I followed the Elantra N and it’s N Line counterparts, a slightly used (under 500 miles) 2022 Veloster N as well as the updated Honda Civic Si. I also considered the Mazda 3 Turbo and the new Subaru WRX. After test driving all of them, this was my conclusion on each: Elantra N: Excellent car. A bit too boy racer for my taste. The brace in the trunk while useful hinders it’s practicality. No deals were to be had on this car and my insurance on that car would be insane. Mazda 3: Simply beautiful but lacked that “it” factor. Great interior furnishings but the blind spot on the hatchback was a bit much. The sedan is nice however it doesn’t tickle the same as the hatchback. Both were less spacious. Subaru WRX: Not the prettiest car but what Subaru ever was (exception being the BRZ). It performed well, my insurance was reasonable and there were plenty available. Reasons why I didn’t bite? Gas mileage was abysmal, little safety tech unless you got the SPT/CVT and the cargo space. Honda Civic Si: A better car than the last one. Nicer interior too. However, dealer markups were crazy (still are). Piped in exhaust sounds? Slower than the last generation? Hondas are well built and have a great aftermarket yet it wasn’t enough for me to buy that car much less pay $3K-$5K markup to get one. Veloster N: Similar to the comments about the Elantra N. The insurance was cheaper, though. However the dealer was asking $36K. It was considered a used car and the interest rates on it were considerably higher that those of a new car. The Elantra N Line struck the right balance of performance, looks, tech, practicality, price and VALUE for my money. Out the door I paid just under MSRP before taxes. Because I bought it on the last day of the month, I was able to negotiate as well. All the dealer add-ons were taken off the price of the vehicle (about $1600). Besides, nitrogen is in the air of ALL tires. I’m pleased with my purchase. I do miss not having cooled seats for summers and not having that big panoramic roof but I also don’t miss not having blind spot monitoring, which this car has. Looking at that large fully digital dash and upgraded infotainment screen only increases my love for this purchase. I think I’ve said enough.
