Used 2013 Hyundai Elantra Limited 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl 6A) Consumer Reviews
WORST CAR EVER
I purchased a 2013 Elantra pre-owned car in January of 2014. Since that time there has been 3 recalls on the car. Currently, I have 55,000 miles on my car, and I have had maintenance done on my car more often than what the dealer recommended, i.e., I had the oil changed more often than recommend. Then 2 months ago I heard a ‘pinging’ noise coming from the engine when I accelerated. The noise was caused by ‘scoring’ on the wall of the first cylinder. The solution is a new short block engine from Hyundai. Total repair cost is more than $6,000, plus $350 for a rental car. Thank goodness I purchased a Comprehensive Extended Warrenty for $2,400 when I purchased the pre-owned car. I will NEVER purchase another Hyundai.

Elantra Excellence!
If you are looking for the best bang for your buck in smaller sedans, with great warranty, safety, fuel efficiency and features, look no further than the Hyundai Elantra. I have owned four different trim levels over the years, and the car has proven itself over and over again! I have veered over to others such as BMW, and have had nothing but headaches with a supposedly "luxury brand." I will now stick with Hyundai for life!

Replacement of engine
I bought this car new. The engine had to be replaced twice. The dealer was unable to find the cause of the engine failures. I do not feel secure in the vehicle. Hyundai was unwilling to help me find a solution to this problem. Elantra owners beware of engine problems.

The worst car I owned and the most expensive one.
Original review: The 2012 and 2013 Elantras will apparently always be able to write they get up to 38 MPH. They did lie to the EPA and over-inflated mileage. That's fact. Hyundai (corp.) told me the old stickers (Monroney) should've been replaced on cars reflecting actual and lower mileage. That never happened I understand, however, from Edmunds that this slight of hands (my phrase) is quite okay. But I bought a car that "got" up to 38 MPH and no trip has come close. Problem 1. Under 500 miles had a hardware problem to my overpaid and larger GPS. It took time and effort to get that corrected and I read a review elsewhere when one person gave up on the GPS. (Added - one service mgr blatantly refused to even look at the problem because replacing the unit cost $4000. I called them and obviously didn't bring it in.) I'm back at my own dealer. I have well under 9k miles on my car and three things needed to be fixed. The dealer may have been somewhat confused but at least they agreed to correct it. The issue, however, is an old one. Bring it in. They see what the issues are. They order the parts or not. I bring it in and they got the wrong part and did little to nothing with my car. Do they care? Doesn't seem like it. I like the dealership at this time. I loathed them when I bought it and when we buy another, it will not be a Hyundai. But I held my breath. Maybe they improved. It appeared that way. The service dept. doesn't have to drive it back in three+ times to get things fixed that should've been done ONCE. It feels like the old days with the old very bad dealers and cars. The good news is I am dissuading friends from going to Hyundai. It's working so far. * * * * Update 4/14/16: I have about 10,500 mi on the car. Service center in Asheville were really stupid. Black trim was buckling. They had no clue. I pointed out (figured it out) it hadn't been cleaned (as in I bought the car and they were supposed to clean it and didn't) before giving it to me. Black was tape. That's nuts and one dealership. The service manager there didn't even realize it. We were both trying to figure out what was going on and I peeled the black back. Bingo. Asheville Hyundai didn't do their job and the service manager didn't catch it. I DID. The noise inside the car is very bad. I'll never get over the est. mile/gallon deception but I am writing facts. My hope buying this car was that it would be my last (due to my age). This isn't happening. Looking to ditch it now. 10/14/16 update car miles now 12952 Can't lock glovebox (nuts and not new just cheap). Brakes have never felt right. Couldn't get out of a driveway (slight incline) w/dusting of snow. 2017 - Engine blew with about 13,500 miles on it. There was a squealing noise from the engine. The dealer didn't need my records because my engine was so clean. But give me a break. This is sheer lunacy and I can't get enough for it to get a reliable car. In 2018 when moved, took it to a dealer and he had Elantras backed up on a waiting list to have the engine replaced. Problems continue (late 2017): The gas cover no longer pops open. Springs had to be replaced. 10/2018: Just under 23k mi. Left turn signal blinks rapidly. (This is all over the internet for different years.) Inside seat holding (split seat) mechanism needs to be fixed. Warranty is up in a couple months and this happens. 11/1/18: I took it to Lehigh Valley Hyundai in Emmaus, PA. The left turn signal had to be fixed. I couldn't push down the rear split seat without pulling on the trunk mechanism to release it and going through contortions to release it. More happened but it was too inconsistent to know if it was going to turn into an issue and it wasn't mechanical. All this constant garbage and fear of what else pushed me out of Hyundai into a car that has a superb reputation all around. I picked up the car. I made the dumb assumption Lehigh Valley Hyundai fixed the car and didn't check it (why... simple fixes). I pulled out of the lot and used my drivers side turn signal that was rapidly blinking. The mechanic replaced the light bulb but it didn't fix the blinking. I pulled over and left a message about how infuriated I was. I read info on the internet and reviewer after reviewer said the light bulb was replaced and didn't fix the problem. Was the oil change really done? Was the interior air cleaner really replaced? I'll never know. I left the dealer and drove to a Subaru dealer where I ditched the blasted car and bought a real one. I loathe the incompetent dealers everywhere (except Quakertown, PA where one mechanic knew what was going on & Nashville Hyundai - the only place that would fix my GPS). THIS REVIEW IS COMPLETE. FINALLY DITCHED THE 2nd worst car I've ever owned. Good riddance, Hyundai.

Not Happy
Purchased 05.14.2013 had it in the shop for bluetooth not downloading contacts, delivered with scratch on glove box door and window tint not done properly on 05.24.2013, windows retinted, glove box door replaced bluetooth problem not fixed. The way vehicle drove seemed odd took a few weeks to get use to it, noticed it was pulling to the right and the steering wheel was not centered and extensive wear on left front tire. Bluetooth still will not download contacts have tried several different phones. Dealership told me that steering wheel and pulling to right would not be covered by warranty, even though it has driven that way since i got it with 65 miles on it. Making another appointment. Update 6.14.16 Car has 38k miles, i dont drive it much because of the handling and the ride. It is the worst vehicle I have ever purchased. I do not recommend.
