2019 Passport Engine issue, only 750 miles on it

I bought a new 2019 Honda Passport a couple months ago, and noticed it idling rough when I started it. Soon after, about every warning light came on, indicating engine, transmission and brake system issues. Long story short, it’s been at the Dealers for 5 days now, and the tech is saying it appears to be a head gasket issue, and are waiting on Honda’s “permission” to take it apart to inspect for damage! So much for Honda quality, and why does the dealer have to have “permission”? I will update, when I get a solid answer, and it’s repaired. Not impressed with Honda In general, and the dealership. ** Update 7-30-22. No problems since last update, getting 25-26 mpg on the road, low 20s in town. Liking the vehicle more and more as time goes by, at least barring anymore issues. ** Update 8-30-21. AC quit working over the weekend, took it in, found out my AC compressor needs replaced. And it will take four days to get it in. And I only have 3,600 miles on it. So much for Honda quality! And not impressed with the service tech at the dealership. I think I have bought my last Honda! **Update 2-13-21, no problems since original head gasket issue. Like the vehicle, great gas mileage for the size...averaging around 22-23 mpg in mixed use. *Update 5-7-20, the head gasket issue, turned out being a head issue (“porous casting”), which required the replacement of the head. The dealership had the vehicle for a total of 18 days, part of which was due to waiting on Honda to give permission to do the replacement, and other procedures. I have had it back now for a while, and appears to be running fine. The dealership told me this was the first issue of this type they have had on both the Passport or Pilot. Lucky me! Update 2-1-24, no problems since the initial engine issue. I’m getting 18/19 mpg in city driving, and 23/24 on the road trips. Update 8-1-24. I decided to raise my overall score to 4 stars, based on the past few years good experience. No problems what so ever, since you initial engine issue. Update 1-17-25 continues to perform, with no reliability issues. My only complaint, other than the “ride” with the orginal low profile tires, is having to replace my brake fluid at 20,000 miles, due to it being 5 years old. Otherwise, all is good.

Passport Touring: Love the car... not the wheels

2019 Honda Passport Touring 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl 9A)

The car itself is awesome. If you live in or frequent urban areas... get a wheel & tire replacement package. Or a lower trim. Owned only 3 weeks and already had curb damage necessitating tire replacement. I sprung for the Touring model with the extra equipment -- not realizing it had smaller sidewalls (265/45R20 vs 245/50R20). I feel like the smaller sidewalls give less confidence in tight quarters, as you're going to pop a wheel easier. Might have stuck with an EX-L (or Sport) had I known this going in.

Not just for young adventure seekers!

Buy the EXL trim. It's loaded, and Touring and Elite aren't worth the extra money. Bought mine for almost $3,000 under MSRP, and it was every dollar. Biggest pluses for me: giant cargo space and overall roominess. Drove 950 miles fully loaded to Myrtle Beach and got 25 mpg. A bonus: plenty of giddy up in the 280 hp V6.

Looking for a two-row SUV and really liked the passenger room & storage Passport offered. Very quiet ride. Push button shift was a little strange, but after a week it becomes second nature. Black car with black trim & wheels is very attractive. Perfect car for us!

The SUV that does it all

Own the Elite (4WD top of line) 2019 passport for 6 months and could not be happier. It's got power, style, great looks and functionality. Leather looks great and feels nice. Cabin is roomy, luxurious and equipped with everything you could possibly want. The main display is visually clear and easy to navigate and works seamlessly with Apple Car Play allowing Google Maps/Waze and Tidal. I like this car much more than the Pilot. It's a little smaller which makes it nimbler, but importantly it rides higher off the ground which gives it a more commanding view. The Passport is a very responsive car - to some maybe too responsive - as 9 gears sometimes feel like a stick shift drive. That is to say I can manipulate gears to slow up/down in response to exact pressure on gas. If you like that kind of thing then this car will really work for you. In comparison to other SUV's, yes maybe you can find an SUV that's faster, or one that's better off road, or one that might offer higher interior refinement and luxury , but I defy you to find one that does all of these things and really well AND at the excellent price point of the Passport.
