Creaking like a rocking chair

Bought our new 2021 Odyssey Elite last month, immediately began hearing creaking noises S if the floor board and steering wheel was going to fall out. Notified salesman immediately and took it back in to service department. 4 hours of waiting and was told “it just needs to be broken in”. We all know a new car doesn’t need to be broken in to get rid of broken noises. Went to corporate and got them to get me an appointment in body shop. I have bought Honda exclusively since 1989, been on a new Odyssey every 2 years since 2006. Our 2018 had electrical problems and computer problems. This is the last Honda we will ever buy.

Bought a 2021 Honda Odyssey elite few weeks ago and it’s been nothing but a nightmare from day one. We only had a car for a week and since than it’s been at the dealer for electronic problems. Everything shut down every two minutes, radio, DVD player, back up camera, phone charger, blue tooth nothing works. Honda doesn’t know what’s wrong with the car or how to fix it. Just found out that they are having a same problem since 2018 and they have done nothing to correct the problem. We have a loaner from the dealer which is a 2020 Honda Odyssey EXL and it has the same problem. I had a 2012 odyssey and never had any issues with that car. I can’t believe that Honda is selling defective cars for three years and are no fixing the problem. I guess this is our last Honda bow, time to move to Toyota.

Terrible experience with a 2021 honda odyssey

I bought a 2021 odyssey and what a nightmare since day one the car drove weird until a couple of weeks the car wouldn't start. The car got towed and they gave me a loaner which will shoot down on me twice waiting at a light! I got my Brad new car back yesterday and I can still feel the vibration like before... When you are supposed to feel happy and satisfied with a new car???? I do not recommend this new 2021 odyssey unless you are open to be dealing with this drama..... I wi be calling honda service on Monday!

Brand New 2021 Odyssey Creaking

Bookworm , 05/11/2021
2021 Honda Odyssey Elite 4dr Minivan (3.5L 6cyl 10A)
9 of 9 people found this review helpful

We bought our Odyssey in January so it now has about 5,000 miles on it. It's okay, but the creaking noises while driving are super annoying. We have a service appointment for Saturday and will see if they can fix the issue. If not, we may just have to trade it back for something else. There is no discernable pattern to the creaking - it creaks when we are driving, turning, braking, accelerating, etc. It creaks at all times of day and in different temps. The sounds are not in the steering wheel, but just in the front cabin. Super dissatisfied. We have a 17-year old Suburban that we use to haul things and it is a quieter ride.

1,200 miles and having transmission faults, the locks on all doors start rapidly locking and unlocking while driving down the road. The Navi system will show the speed limit is 100mph in 25 mph zones. What a COMPLETE disappointment. Honda has fallen far!

Just leased my 6th Honda Odyssey minivan and I am so much happier with the 2021 than my previous 2018. I experienced hesitation and lag time when trying to accelerate in the 2018. The new 2021 has none of that and provides a much smoother ride. I am extremely pleased with my new 2021 Honda Odyssey.

A very enjoyable vehicle to drive except for the really annoying road noise which is a common feature in the Odyssey. The engine auto start-stop feature is the worst and saves no gas and damages the engine plus u have to turn it off each time you start the engine. Android auto takes too long to initiate and sometimes the vehicle won't start without pressing start button more than once.

Infotainment power issues

I only have less than 2000 miles in this car. I am a fan of the Honda brand. I always purchase Honda brand cars since 1994. However, I am unhappy with this model. Their infotainment system shut down during my vacation trip. The screen went black. Any features that require an infotainment system would not work. Also, my front windows, sunroof, door lock system were not working at all. I took my car to my dealer today. I am hoping this is a real simple fix.

Really surprised at how much nicer our new 2021 drives and rides compared to our 2012 Touring. Still learning how to manage the new safety tech and entertainment system which is kind of fun. Nothing to report for problems at this point.

Bought a 2021 Honda Elite about 3 months ago. No complaints. Traded in my 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback, which I loved, to make highway trips to see the grand kids safer and more comfortable. The ride is, of course, better, but the decrease in road noise is wonderful. I like the configuration options for the seats. Being in a higher profile vehicle allows me to see and be seen by the myriad of trucks sharing the road. It's easy for our dog to enter and exit. I'll update if anything develops to change my opinion, but good so far.

First every van

brittany, 04/16/2021
2021 Honda Odyssey Touring 4dr Minivan (3.5L 6cyl 10A)
3 of 3 people found this review helpful

we just bought our first ever mini van and with two kids an no debt we were very excited about this purchase. so we bought the car in February during a snow storm and we will say the car does very well in snow. so the first thing we noticed was there was rust in the back seat the middle seats that slide back an fourth, than the car started to creak, it reminded of us a cruise ship on its first voyage, than the breaks squeak. we are like oh my the creaking happens when you turn when you go to accelerate or slow down. and it sounds like sometimes it sounds like the wheels are just going to fall off or something is going to break. Also the arm rest for the passenger side goes all the way down to the seat so its like who has their arm all the way down there. so we took it to the dealer. I am a mom of two kids one is 4 one is 1. the first day it was to rainy for them to look or hear the noise. we took the car on a road trip an came back the next week. well once again they had me wait 4 plus hours or longer i cant remember i was trying to entertain two kids in a dealership. they couldn't figure out the noise and they had no loaners. so i went back and they told me to come back another day great thats fine we can do that. this is our only car and my husbands in the military and needs the car most of the week. so i take it down there again sit from 9 til about 2pm in the afternoon and than a loaner car shows up an i didnt care if it was small i wanted to leave. they gave us a honda accord. so they keep the car over a week they didnt hear the noise, then about a few days in to the second week they heard the noise. they dont know where its coming from or how to fix it. but they marked on our file so in case there is a recall later down the road we will hear about it and they will fix it. but other than that we love the car its been great we just turn up the radio so we dont have to hear the creak.

2021 honda odyssey strut problems.

Had my 21 for about a year. At 8 months my car was knocking. They greased the steering so they say. 1 month later knocking again. Replaced right strut after 24 hours in the shop. 1 month later left side knocking. Took in again and said left side needs replacing. Had to wait 7 Weeks. The NEXT day knocking again left and right side. DONT WORRY! HONDA is aware of it. They keep INSISTING it's safe to drive my 5 yr old around in it. So frustrating!!! Any advice??

Great improvements for 2021/22, but a stupid flaw

We love our 2022 Odyssey EX-L. Lots of minor, but thoughtful tweaks to the interior, good decisions on design of the drive train. EXCEPT for one flaw: there is no way to get the electrical transmission shifter into neutral if the engine won’t start! This means if your battery is dead, or anything else prevents the car from starting, you are stuck in PARK and can’t push the car into a garage or off the road. Stupid design oversight! We had this happen in -8F, when the entire undercarriage was covered with a thick (4”) coating of ice, which prevented anything in the engine compartment from moving.

Poor storage space design

Experienced Odyssey Owner , 12/27/2020
2021 Honda Odyssey Elite 4dr Minivan (3.5L 6cyl 10A)
14 of 22 people found this review helpful

I had my 2007 Odyssey EX-L for 14 years and finally decided to get a new 2021 Elite. Of course, I like many improvements, especially the electronic safety features. The road noise seems also lower. But to my unpleasant surprise the storage being overall larger is much less convenient. The glove box in my old van had two separate compartments - I kept all the required papers - insurance card, registration, etc. in the upper smaller one, flush light, spare glasses and all other larger items - in the lower larger compartment. The new van has only a single compartment and keeping all the above items together is really inconvenient. The old van had a sliding out bin under the front passenger seat. This is where I kept all the DVDs for the entertainment system. The new van does not have this bin. The well between the first and the second row was the place where I kept all my road emergency stuff - air pump, jump start cables, road flares lights, etc. Now this well is occupied with the spare tire and the place in the back where the old van had the spare tire is taken by the built-in vacuum cleaner. It is not bad to have a vacuum cleaner, but I can hardly imagine vacuuming in the middle of my trip, and when I come home I have more powerful options in my garage. Talking about built-in devices: I would rather have a built-in air pump which becomes very handy when you get a nail in your tire - just pump it up enough to get to the nearest tire shop. The number of cup holders is great but just as it was in the old van. But the old van besides the cup holders also had a few covered storage bins in the back for the 3-rd row passengers. Now they are gone. Overall the new van looks good, but the in-cabin storage design is much worse than it was before.

Practicality and Value

Jim, 12/09/2020
2021 Honda Odyssey Elite 4dr Minivan (3.5L 6cyl 10A)
4 of 6 people found this review helpful

My second Odyssey (first was 2011) and this 2021 does not disappoint. Considered new hybrid Toyota (less horsepower and more complexity) and various SUVs like Toyota 4Runner, Chevy Tahoe, Lexus GX, Audi, BMW, etc. Although AWD is nice (my Subaru Ascent trade had it) not a deal breaker for me as winter tires and Honda’s snow mode feature are sufficient for my needs. (Have a diesel 4x4 superduty if I want to really get off road.). If you can live with the anonymity of a passenger van, this Odyssey is a stellar choice: more capacity with automated sliding doors and driving attributes of an agile sedan. Engine and transmission are wonderfully smooth with lots of power; ride is comfortable and inside is quiet (acoustic glass windshield and front/rear doors. Interior appointments and execution rival more expensive alternatives while staying practical to the everyday demands of a sportswagon. Low load floor and power doors make every day use a pleasure as does all the thoughtful details like vacuum, intercom, WiFi, rear entertainment, hands free tailgate, power folding mirrors, and so on.

I have had the same issues with the infotainment system. I had to battle with dealerships 4 times to get it fixed. It turns out there is a recall for the bus connections... It's just loose connectors. Now my van is PERFECT. Only other complaint I have is it eats tires. I feel like the tires are undersized for the vehicle. I only got 33,000 miles and already shopping for tires now. However, these issues do not bother me since everything about this vehicle I love. So much space. I love the transmission.. butter smooth. I get so many head turns with this vehicle too. Amazing engine. Built in vaccume is awesome! I have checked out almost every other brand for a year before buying. They all SUCK! Comparing to the drive quality of the Odyssey. Just try for yourself. You won't be disappointed. I'm a odyssey fan now.

I have had this car for 5 days. I traded in my wonderful 2017 Honda Odyssey Touring and I sure wish I could get it back! My husband is at the dealership as I write this! The electronics are ridiculous and impossible to figure out. The car is making a “tick-tick” noise instead of running smoothly. At every stop sign, the car hesitates and sometimes turns off and restarts because of some economy feature I guess. We’d tried everything we can find to disable it. The radio system is a nightmare and completely non-intuitive. This is my 4th Odyssey Touring and I always have been satisfied from day 1. Edmunds, I counted on your review before I bought this lemon.

This is our 3rd Odyssey. We traded in a 2020 Pilot for this Odyssey because functionality it just didn’t compare to the Odyssey. The safety features are great. The drive is smooth and I don’t notice much road noise. It really is fun to drive. I find myself looking for excuses to take it for a drive. The Odyssey does make having a mini van totally cool!

ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS!!!

Lilypu, 01/23/2022
2021 Honda Odyssey EX-L 4dr Minivan (3.5L 6cyl 10A)
1 of 1 people found this review helpful

About three months after owning this car the "infotainment" screen started having glitches, then the sound ,then the push button start intermittently would not work, then the dash screen would freeze, the tailgate would not open. It has been at the dealer twice, all day and they said the only fix was a software update (which did not work). I called American Honda and filed a complaint and here we are 4 weeks later and have not heard a word from them. When I called the local Honda service department and told them I was thinking of trading the car the service advisor said " that is a good idea, do it asap". I traded it for a 2022 Highlander last week. I honestly loved the van except for the issues it was having. I had only 4600 miles on it and would have kept it for the next 10 years if this had not happened. It is my understanding that many of these vans are plagued with these electrical problems, which as we all know can be nearly impossible to find and fix. I test drove an Acura MDX when I decided to trade it and ultimately decided against it solely because Acura is a Honda product and I no longer have faith in Honda products. We had been loyal Toyota owners for the past 30 years and had to buy a Honda van due my husbands mobility issues. We are back with Toyota to stay....

I took my Odyssey into the dealer, Russel and Smith Honda Houston for a recall. Turns out there were two recalls one for side mirrors and one for service cable connector. I had noticed a rattling coming from the front and I asked them to diagnose the issue. Turns out I needed a new right drive shaft and front lower controller arm. I decided to pick up the vehicle while they got the parts. As I was driving away, I noticed the A/C was not working. Not good in the 100+ degree Houston Summer. I took it back and they said the Schrader valve was leaking and needed to be replace. A week later everything is fixed and my wife is driving down the street and the car loses all power and a warning light informs her to move the vehicle to a safe spot and turn off the vehicle. I take it back to the dealership and they indicate I need a new compressor, clutch, condenser, and drive belt. All this on a low mileage vehicle less than three years old. I've had 3 Odysseys b/c I like the way it drives. None have made it much more than 150k before mechanical issues (cylinder heads, suspension, etc.) have made them unreliable. I am done with Honda. Toyota's don't have the same feel but at least they last. If you buy an Odyssey, get the extended warranty. You will need it. Also make sure you have loaner car benefits. Honda doesn't have the parts and you are going to be without a vehicle a few days at the minimum. One day to diagnose the issue, one day to communicate the issue/check on parts, 2-3 days to order parts and get them in (if you are lucky), and one day to fix it. That has been my experience. In hindsight, Toyotas seem a lot better value.

I've owned 2x Honda Odyssey's in 2x Countries on 2x Continents. So to be honest the car is a great family vehicle, comfortable and was a good fit for a family of six. But I've bought the most "loaded" version I could In N. America and Australia and they definately do not hold value, no matter what Honda says. First car lost more than 50% of it's value in 18 months and less than 30k km on odometer, second lost 70% of it's value in 4 years. I've owner, GM, Ford, Dodge, BMW, and VW, none of them depreciated as hard as a Honda. So my advice, don't but a new Honda, buy used these cars are good value for $$$ but far better because of the depreciation to pick up a used one 12 - 18 months.

I've had the EX-L Odyssey for almost 3 years and in spite of the few electrical component glitches and the horrid auto idle that stops the engine and starts it back up its been a great vehicle.

I had purchased a 2021 pre-owned Honda Odyssey with 25000 mile July of 2023. Unfortunately, my first bad experience was the left side passenger door started to malfunction after a month. However, I had taken it back to get it resolved, but it wasn’t done. After another four months the vehicle kept shutting off while driving, and the last incident it was totally dead I had to have it towed to the dealership. In my opinion, I believe that this vehicle wasn’t properly serviced before it was sold to us. Unfortunately, we didn’t get recompensed from the dealership, but Farah one of the sales rep. who saw our distress came and assisted us in transitioning into a new vehicle which had cost me more expense to my monthly payment.
