Great for the Heat...not for the cold.

We bought the 2018 Honda Odyssey to replace our 2006 Toyota Sienna. So alot has happened technologically so that was something getting used to. Although I still am mourning the loss of the CD player...but we will have to find a way. The controls for the temperatures are another story...I don't mind that things are touch-screen, but some things just can be reached without taking off the gloves...and when the windchill is -20 degree outside, it's pretty tough. PLUS we spent an entire 8 hour drive from Chicago to Cleveland trying to figure out how to get the defrost/defogger to work properly. We ended up with windows that were frosted ON THE INSIDE of the car because we couldn't figure out the proper settings. All in all the van is good. Just the temperature controls have issues. In terms, of interior storage...we found that the back seats don't lie completely flat. There are bumps and ridges on the seats that would not allow you to lay something down. For example...if I wanted to sleep in the back of the van while camping, it would be very hard because the molding on the seats would make it near impossible to only have a sleeping bag. You would need a mattress to cover up the plastic on the backs of the seats.

I owned a brand new Honda back in 2009 and when the a/c shot after 3.5 years of owning the car (in upstate NY mind you), I vowed I would never purchase a Honda again. Especially because I missed the warranty by 1,000 miles and the dealership wouldn't stand behind the repairs and wanted more than the car was worth to fix it. I digress. Fast forward to 2018, I now have 2 children in carseats and a third on the way. I bought the Odyssey mainly because of the 2nd row seats the move side to side. Because I will have three under three in carseats, access to the back row was incredibly important to me. This is the only manufacturer at this time that offers this sliding seat option. So, hesitantly, I test drove the Honda and was assured the a/c in the van was phenomenal and was told several times that the technology was amazing etc etc. I have had the car for 3 weeks and I loathe it. LOATHE it. If I could return it today, I would in a heart beat. I now reside in TN and the summers get in the upper 90s, 100s. When its that hot out, the a/c doesn't work for a long time. 17 minutes I had HOT air blowing in my face and on my children in the back seat. Yes, 17 minutes. I tried turning econ mode off as suggested on several forums with no luck of it improving. Mind you, after the 17 minutes of it blasting on "Lo" it wasn't even cold air that began to come out. It was simply cool. Felt like 73 degree air (this is what I ran my Subaru Legacy at). Lo claims to be less than 58 degrees. No way is that possible. I called the dealership and they immediately said they would get it in to look at it. The lady was sweet and after she heard me rave about my Subaru, suggested that their umbrella of dealerships also sells Subaru and the Ascent is coming out with the third row option. Informed her I wish I went that route, but seeing how I just dropped $40k not even a month ago on this piece of junk, I would likely not get what I paid for it now. Hung up with her, end of work day comes and I go to pick up my kids. I started the car while walking about @ 3:50. Arrived at daycare within minutes and left the car running while going in to get them because it was STILL blowing HOT air. I figured, I am going to be in there for a minute getting them, surely it will be running cool by then. 4:08 I am exiting the daycare and HOT AIR is still blowing. My car felt hotter inside that it did outside. It was 98 degrees outside per the car gage. Loaded my kids in, hoping driving would help. 4:17 I finally started to feel relatively cool air coming out, again STILL NOT COLD LO AIR that you would expect. This is garbage. A brand new van, blowing HOT air while on Lo. After reading several reviews on here, I am NOT the only consumer who purchased this massive heat vessel that is beyond dissatisfied. I now am beyond concerned to add another baby to this car and force one of my littles to sit in the back of this hot box. I would not purchase this car if you're looking. Keep looking. In fact, go to Subaru instead. If I can afford to, I plan on getting rid of this car asap and buying the Ascent. The moveable 2nd row seats and sliding doors are NOT worth the money on this thing. I would rather deal with the inconvenience of trying to access the third row and swing out doors that deal with this junk.

Console interface - Wonky

Sceptical, Chicago, IL, 04/20/2018
Honda Odyssey EX-L 4dr Minivan (3.5L 6cyl 9A)

Our last car was an 8-seat Sienna. It needed major $ fixes after 86K miles. So we tried the 8-seat Odyssey. Like the reviews said, we also found the console interface wonky and too distracting. How can you drive and navigate the console at the same time? Even to switch from AM to FM is a chore. There is an app which ties your smartphone into the screen-console, and that doesn't work well at all, especially if you have an Android. We also found that the passenger door does not close without slamming it, and we need to bring it back for a fix. The salesman was a little pushy and we feel he lied to us.

We replaced our 2006 Odyssey with a 2018 Odyssey in October 2018. We loved our 2006 it had 185,000 miles on it and still ran like a new van. Did not use a drop of oil and idled smooth and quiet. However this new odyssey is so much better than our old one. We now have 19,500 miles on it with out any issues. It drives wonderful and I love the electronics it has. We got the EXL model as we did not need a DVD player or cabin watch. Apple play is fantastic, you hook you iPhone up through the port and your navigation comes up on the screen making purchasing the navigation option in the van worthless. Pandora or Spotify plays perfectly through your phone and the SiriusXM radio works very well. This van drives like a fine automobile and not anything like a van, it’s quick, nibble, and the transmission so far has been flawless. The safety features are fantastic, Lane departure, automatic distance control from cars in front of you, automatic braking if you fail to slow down fast enough, blind spot alerts. I love this vehicle. We are averaging about 26 miles to a gallon, and so far I have zero complaints. I understand some people have been having some problems with the new model 2018 odyssey. I'm so sad for them Because ours has been running great with no issues except we did receive notice that the sliding doors need to have the latch replaced on both sides. I’m not happy about that, but as far as I’m concerned, this is a wonderful van and so far I love owning it. I would buy it again for sure. We are retired and traveling from Connecticut to Flordia is a joy in this vehicle. Five stars from me Now after owning it for two years. I love the vehicle. We had a problem with the injectors and had all six replaced under warranty. Other than that issue, I absolutely love this van. I bought the extended warranty because I plan on keeping it for many years. This van drives wonderfully, and has so many safety features. Highly recommend for families with children, we are retired and travel a lot, can’t beat this vehicle. UPDATE ON 2018 ODYSSEY We now in 2025 have 108,000 miles on our odyssey. Truly one of the best vehicles I’ve owned. No major maintenance issues, change belts and water pump at 100,000 under the extended warranty ( highly recommend purchasing it because of all the electronics) Changed Normal wear and tear items, brakes, tires, changed brakes at 88,000 which was unbelievable. My tire wear has also been unbelievable, 1st change at 47,000 and next set at 90,000 which I guess because mostly highway miles. I absolutely will buy another odyssey when they change the design, I think, but this one runs perfect and I love it. We have twelve grandchildren and this is the best people mover, as well when the seats are out it is great for moving furniture etc. Body has no rust, none, seat are in excellent condition and we have been very happy with this van

Ten Cu Ft Less than my 2008 Odyssey

The second row seats are on a dolly of sorts that can not be removed. It is no longer wide enough for a 4X8 sheet of plywood to fit without angling it. It has 10 cu ft less cargo carrying volume than my 2008 Odyssey. All of these are non-starters for me.
