If one must own a minivan, the Odyssey is great
My wife and I swore that we would never own a minivan. Then she became pregnant with our fourth child. Combine that with the complexities of the car lines at the kids’ schools, and poof, we went from being cool kids to owning not just one but two 2018 Odyssey Elites. I previously owned a 2017 Lexus LX 570 and she owned a 2016 Volvo XC 90. Needless to say, we were pretty happy with our former vehicles. But sometimes things happen in life that cause needs and priorities to change. We went with the Odyssey primarily because the magic slide seats are, well, magical. It is amazing how easy it is to configure the interior seating of this vehicle. I am 6’1” and a big guy. Because of various other family members who tag along sometimes, I’ve ridden in the second and third rows. Amazingly, with the magic slide seat pushed inbound and forward for entry purposes, I had no problem entering the third row. In addition, it was comfortable and I actually enjoyed sitting back there and watching a movie with my 6 year-old daughter (who thought it was hilarious that daddy was in the back with her). I have 2100 miles on my Odyssey and have had no problems with the vehicle whatsoever other than the doors (which I will get to). The van drives great, is economical, loaded with amazing technology, and has more utility and useful room than any large SUV I have ever owned. I still find myself wondering how a vehicle that small (I’ve previously owned Suburbans, etc.) can feel so big inside. I still haven’t towed anything yet (my 10 year-old sails competitively) so the jury is still out on that one. I also find myself why I previously owned much more expensive SUVs that had no more (and sometimes less) tech than the Odyssey. In a world where a loaded 2018 Expedition costs nearly $80k, a loaded Odyssey Elite at $44k (what we paid for both of ours) seems like a pretty great deal. Have there been a few occasions where I felt a little less macho with my minivan? Yes, a few; but surprisingly, not many. Being a man is about taking care of your family; and this van is the best family vehicle I’ve ever owned by a long shot. Two months into ownership, the stigma is long gone from my head and I stopped caring about what others think. The only “complaints” that I have about the vehicle are as follows; 1) the driver’s armrest is useless to me. There is no position in which it feels comfortable; 2) the sliding doors are a little quirky at times - usually closing in car line. I suspect that is some kind of sensor that relates to someone being close to the door on the outside. It’s pretty rare, but worth mentioning; 3) no 360 degree camera. This is the only thing my wife hates about the Odyssey. Acura has it. Nissan has had it for years. Honda, this would have been a simple addition; 4) the automatic emergency breaking feature, while it saved my behind on my last vehicle, is a little sensitive in the Odyssey in town with lots of traffic; and 5) the second row seats are heavy and difficult to remove. However, on the last point, the second row seats on the Pacifica are much less comfortable. Comparing apples to apples, I’ll take magic slide over stow-and-go any day of the week and twice on Sunday. While I have read complaints about the 10-speed transmission, we have not experienced any such problems. Good luck shopping.

3rd and last Honda - beware of the 2018 Odyssey
We purchased this van brand new in March 2018. This van is scared of vacations. At 800 miles, van speed derated from 70 mph to 40 mph on vacation journey through north Florida. Drove van in limp mode 16 miles away to Lake City, FL Honda dealer. Van was repaired several days later for a stuck valve cylenoid. After returning home to north Georgia @ 1,700 miles, van derated again on highway. After parking, van would not shift into gear and had to be drug onto tow truck sent by Honda Roadside assistance. Van was down for an additional week as spool valve assembly was replaced. Today, at 3,800 miles and three months old, oil is leaking on back side of motor and is dripping onto catalytic converter. Heading back to dealer again. We have created our third case file with Honda N.A. After second break down, Honda NA response was that they didn’t see the van as having an issue and told us they would not be offering any trade assistance towards an another Odyssey in an effort to get us out of the apparent lemon. So much for Honda customer service. This will definitely be the last Honda in our family.

Test Drove 2018 Odyssey - major issue with AC
We waited over 7 months to finally purchase a Honda Touring 2018. Went to dealership and it only had an Elite in stock. So, we finally got around to test driving it. Here are the results: Pros - Magic Seat (awesome!), performance - good, brakes - good, navigation system - good (thought there would be a glare; however, it was minimal), cabin watch - good, remote engine start (thank god) - great! Cons - OMG, they screwed up the Air Conditioning. The front seat is okay. However, I would feel very sorry for anyone sitting in the third row. It just blows air (and not even cold). Also, the vent is on the bottom side. If anyone push the seat back, it gets partially cover. Forget the person sitting in the middle - no air at all. And, the second seat is almost the same. Unbelievable mistake. We live in Las Vegas and it can get up to 115 degrees during the summer. I sat in the car for 20 minutes, had the fan blowing high with the AC set to the lowest setting, and still, it was uncomfortable in the back seats. I even got the sales guy to finally admit that he was not comfortable with it. This is not acceptable in Las Vegas. As a result, we decided to hold off on this purchase. Hopefully, they have this fix in 2019. Unreal!!

Pretty Disappointed with Quality Decline of Honda
We replaced my wife's 2016 Honda Odyssey Touring a few months back for the all new 2018 Elite. We were having Transmission Issues at only 21K miles with the 16' and upon reading several online reviews and forums, found this to be more common than it should be. We initially picked up a new 18' EX-L as the options were pretty similar to our Touring and immediately started having issues with a couple of rattles that the dealer could not pinpoint after keeping the car for a week. Being that we only had it in our possession for 1 full day the dealer agreed to let me swap it for the Elite. Fortunately the rattle's have not been an issue, but now we have a new problem. There is a rather severe popping from the front end when turning under power (i.e. into a parking spot, parking in driveway). We took it back to the dealer where they kept it for a week to replace the entire front/left strut assembly and coil. Picked it up and less than 30 minutes later when backing out of a parking spot and turning we heard the pop again. It's done this several times since and we are planning to take back to the shop once more. Also as other reviews have pointed out, the placement of the rear a/c vents is horrible if you have children in car seats. I can't believe Honda wouldn't think about this issue before removing the vents from the roof. Other than these problems, the new Odyssey drives great, is quiet and gets better mileage. The new electronics are a huge improvement as well. We love driving the new Odyssey, just very disappointed with the quality of our $47K van.

terrible safety defect
The dealer has attempted to repair the radar in the collision avoidance system 3 times now, and still the vehicle will abruptly stop or slow down in traffic when there is no car in front of it. Most times it gives a warning but twice it has autonomously braked, once at freeway speeds. I was fortunate that no one was close behind me at the time. I'm stuck with a lemon law headache and fearing for my safety when I drive this car. Don't make my mistake, pass on buying this car.

Power sliding door not opened
I owned this minivan for 5 months so far and I'm not satisfied with the reliability. First I need to point out that this car is made in USA. So I will except some little issue will happen but it is too soon to my expectation. I have a 1999 Honda Accord and never had any issue, only replaced one light bulb and turning bulb (regular maintain not included) for 18 year of ownership. So for this 2018 Honda Odyssey, I have a couple issue so far: 1. Passenger power sliding door just not opening yesterday, I can hear the motor is trying to open the door but can't. I tried everything such pullin the outside handle, remote control, inside button and driver side main control button. No succeed. 2. Auto shut off idling function is not working most of the time, when I activate it, do nothing, engine not auto shut off. 3. The motion sensor from the tail door is not working most of the time, I followed the video from you tube and I can only open it 2 times so far. (Lol) 4. Driver power sliding door sound weird now, hopefully it won't break.

Love my Odyssey!!
I owned a 2011 Toyota Sienna. It started having too many problems for me to justify keeping it, especially considering it's only 6 years old. I had to replace both sliding door motors, driver's door lock, front and rear rotors, several small engine repairs ($870 worth). I test drove both the Chrysler Pacifica and Odyssey. The Odyssey won, hands down. The Pacifica'Stinky styling was too funny for me, some of the interior materials seemed very cheaply made, and the rear seats and head room were pathetic, along with the infotainment system. I picked up my 2018 Odyssey Touring last week. So far, owning it has been an absolute joy. The features I love most is the way it drives. It's quick, very responsive, and the steering feel and control is amazing. It drives much more like a car or sporty SUV than a van, certainly tons better than the Sienna. I rides so well, too. The seats are amazing for me, a 197 lb. 6.0 ft. tall guy, and a good amount of headroom, even in the second row! The rear seats are just as comfortable as the front, unlike the new Chrysler Pacifica that we also test drove. The rear seats were unbelievably uncomfortable in the Pacifica, most likely due to less padding for the seat to fit and fold down into the floor. I'd much rather have comfortable seats that don't fold into the floor. The sliding second row seats are also incredible and useful. I have 2 kids and a wife, so usually the third row seat isn't occupied. But If it is, we still have plenty of room for cargo in the trunk!! The infotainment system is very quick and lag-free, also very unlike the sluggish Pacifica infotainment. We didn't get the Elite trim because we don't need the CabinWatch or CabinTalk feature, because my kids are grown. We chose the Touring trim over the EX-L mostly for the extra safety features. We love the features, especially LaneKeep Assist which definitely adds peace of mind while driving at night or when tired. I honestly have zero complaints with my van so far! If something comes up I'll definitely update my comment. If you want a fun to drive family hauler with impressive features, the Odyssey is for you. Definitely worth a test drive!!

So far, So good
Traded in my 2002 Odyssey EX with 209,700 miles last week for the 2018 EX, White Diamond Pearl with Mocha interior. I loved my old one but I had an urge for new technology and comfort. So far, I love my new one!! I didn't bother looking at any other Minivan because I knew I wanted another Odyssey. I also really like the styling of this one. 2 weeks and 230 miles of ownership, and I've gotten 3 comments from people saying my van looks nice!! The seats are super comfy and supportive, everything on the interior seems high quality and not cheap at all. Practicality is this van's strong point, cup holders and storage compartments everywhere!! I hate clutter, so I can neatly store and organize all my junk in the door compartments and under the seats. I'm most impressed with how this van drives, the steering is a little stiff with good road feel, minimal oversteer. along with a buttery smooth transmission gear changes and superbly quiet cabin even at high speed! I'm a huge fan of the gauge cluster...it looks modern and cool, but easy to see while not distracting my eyes from the road. My only complaint so far is cosmetic and completely subjective; the wheels. They aren't cheaply made, just not a fan of the design. I am planning to upgrade to 19 inch rims. I love my new Odyssey and look forward to driving it on lots of road trips in the future!!

My very last Honda or Odyssey
I was one of the first in America to take delivery on my 2018 Honda Odyssey Elite. The dealership had not even been trained on the whole new technology system so i still have no idea to work most of the functions on the computer. I told the general manager of the dealership to have someone at Honda contact me, so I could set up a private education session for my wife and I. That has not happened and it has been over a month and a half. 2 weeks ago my 12 year old son grabbed the front grab handle and it came off in his hand as he fell to the ground. Lot's of rattles and noises that our 2 previous Honda Odyssey's never had. Now the "biggie" A week ago the rear passenger door window stopped working. Brought it to my local dealership who looked at it and said it was probably the motor. We made an appointment for Monday July 17, 2018 at my local dealership to have the window fixed. Today i was told by my dealership to come pick up my van and that the window was not fixed!!??? They told me that Honda USA is well aware of a problem with the rear windows on these new 2018 Odyssey's and that parts are on backorder and Honda has "no idea" when the parts will be available!! So I wasted two days of my wife and my time to get my broken van back that is still broken. This new Odyssey has less than 2,000 miles on it...and if we could bring it back for a full refund we would run not walk. This van is a piece of $%&(

Meh, not the best.
I am a reluctant minivan driver but with three kids in car seats it is the current season of my life. Anyway, soon after purchasing the car the passenger side door would randomly not close. I took it to the dealership and no issue was found. This problem still occurs about once a week and finally a recall has been issued but no fix as of yet. Then about 3 months ago my brakes started squeaking every time I used them. I took it back to the dealership where they cleaned my rotors but otherwise found no issues. In the ultimate CYA move they claimed most cars have brakes that make noise (umm no). The noise went away for less than a day and I’m back to having squeaky brakes. Finally last week there is some new sound that sounds like a loose belt. So back to the dealership I go. I’m not impressed with this car at all. Once all of the issues are resolved I would like to sell it so I don’t have to continue my familiarity with the staff of our local Honda dealership.

Parents of toddlers beware (update)
I have owned Honda vehicles for years and our old Odyssey was great. We were approaching 150,000 miles and loved all the new features of the new design so we purchased one day 1. We love most everything about the van with one glaring exception. We have a toddler in a rear facing car seat in the second row. Now for some strange reason Honda decided not to put a/c vents overhead in this new design. The A/c vents for 2018 were moved down low just behind the front row seats and blow back towards the rear of the van. With this deign children in rear facing car seats can not get air directed directly on them. Now we live in Florida so the heat from the son requires this. Every time we get home my sons back is sweaty. I even went to a Tint shop and had expensive ceramic based tint put all around but to no avail. Yes the tint reduced the heat coming in but you just can't match having a/c coming down directly on you. If you don't have or will never have rear facing seats you will never notice this issue and everything else about this van is great. You may find the 9speed a bit strange at first but I got used to it and now like driving the van vary much. I just can't understand why Honda would not consider the comfort of the most delicate passengers when designing a new van. I can only assume it was some cost cutting reason. By the way you will notice another cost cutting feature in the sound system of the EXL. Note they no longer have speakers in the back of the van. All the sound for the rear of the van comes from one overhead speaker. The second row is fine with this however the third row occupants can barley hear what's playing unless you fade the sound all the way back and turn it up louder than you would normally like. All and all we love the van and we like Honda but honestly the A/C oversight is really bad and we are considering getting rid of it after only 1,000 miles. Update So after months and many miles later it’s more of the same. So far it has been in for a new wiper motor as well as the power window switch. Just recently the front left speaker started crackling during music with higher tones and the entire body where the sliding doors meet creak when going up steep inclines. All and all not impressed. Our old Odyssey was better in many ways. Yes this one is more powerful and quieter and more fuel efficient but it’s the overall quality that has gone down hill. Update May 2018 12,000 miles and we were able to live with the AC issue during the winter months even got a new rear facing car seat that helped a bit by allowing more airflow. Now its May and the Florida sun is getting hot again. Yesterday on the way home my wife called me to let me know that my son was soaked again so frustrating. We purchased a product called the "noggle" and it kinda helps but its so hard to get any airflow with any force. We are back to deciding what to do. The van has been reliable after the first few racalls but this AC thing is so frustrating. Update November 2019 30,000 miles So we kept the van. Just so hard to eat the new car depreciation. All and all it’s a good van. We moved to another state where the sun isn’t as bad as FL and the AC issue is now fine. Mix that with the fact our youngest now sits forward facing. A rattle in the passenger side second door is annoying but oh well. It is a good vehicle all and all but the AC thing will be a problem for anyone in hot climates and young children. After the slew of first model issues things settled down and it has served us well since.

Much improved from prior models
Got about 3200 miles on a new 18' model. We got the first one off the truck here locally, the EX-L model with Tech and Nav. We put 100K miles on the same 2011 model. So here is my assessment so far on differences and pros and cons. This is primarily a daily driver for my wife, but I tend to drive on the long family trips. I am 6'1" 200 lbs and find this van is much roomier than the older models. I would say another 4" or so in legroom, much more head and shoulder room too. I can nearly straighten my left leg in the new van. The arm rests are bit wider as well. You can put the seat back farther as well. The touch screen technology is so much better than the older van. It is in HD color, easy to use, tons of options on it. Fuel efficiency is much better. We just drove a 6 hour trip, full load with 5 people and got over 29 MPG. The van is running 4-5 MPG better on both highway and around town than the older model. Also, the ride is much much quieter, this is very noticeable. The engine puts out a bit more acceleration as well when needed. I also like the fog lights standard on this model, not so on the older ones. The middle seats can tilt back some which the kids like on long trips. The blind spot monitor and other safety features like shin airbags are other nice add ons. Overall, the van looks better, definitely seems like they lengthened it maybe another 6", its roomier for sure. Electric start is nice, also the shifters are now buttons which take some getting used to but work pretty well. The kids like the extra plugs, USB, etc. The rear tailgate goes up higher if needed which I like as I used to hit my head on the old one. As far as Cons, the 9 speed transmission can be a bit shifty and low speeds. Again, this just takes some getting used to. Also, all the safety features like lane monitoring, cruise control, etc. are very unique from what I am used to and take some reading up on. Basically, if the van moves out of the lane and hits the lines, it will lightly vibrate and correct back into the lane. On a tight road, this can get annoying. Also, when cruise control is on, if you approach a car in front of you, it will automatically slow down. A bit annoying as you may just prefer to change lanes without adjusting speed. Just some little nuances. Overall, been happy with the purchase. Van is quiet, more comfortable, looks more appealing, gets good fuel efficiency, has more room, and has Honda safety and reliability. We had to pay sticker but got a good trade and got color combos we wanted.

Door latch issue buyer beware 2 weeks old
We are 2 weeks into owning an elite 2018 odyssey. Initial thoughts were that this vehicle is great. We previously owned a 2016 town and country. Right before we hit 300 miles, the passenger side sliding door would no longer close and latch. We took it to the dealership and then indicated that there is a known issue and the part is backordered. They rigged the door and sent me on my way until the part comes in. It is the actuator that is at fault apparently. On the way to the dealership, the door opened as i drove. Lucky for me i was going slowly. The dealership said try not to use the door so until it is fixed the 4 kids have to use one door to get in and out of the vehicle. Horrible service to say the least.

Well, 7 years later and it burned to a crisp!
Update 7/2024 well, this will be my last update since our van engine dropped and caught fire on the freeway! The motor started making noise and grinded to a halt. It dropped to the ground, and fire was coming from under the front up to the top of the hood. Within 5 minutes, the whole van was burning! It is a complete loss! It burned so hot that the rims even melted! This will definitely be our last Honda ever! It had under 80,000 miles! I only wish I could add pictures to this review! Update 7/2021 All problems still exist, only now the back tailgate door will open, then it slowly starts falling. Sometimes it even starts beeping and closes itself. When it does this, we have to hurry and jump out of the way. The battery is constantly dying. We have had it tested multiple times, and it is healthy. We have no clue why it does this. We have checked everything possible. If I leave music playing while I dry the van, it'll be dead by the time I'm done. We've grown tired of this van and can't wait to find a more reliable vehicle. I think we're done with Honda. Update 1/2020 I'm regretting this purchase still! The passenger side sliding door now freezes every time I turn the van on if it was in the process of closing. I then have to get out and manually close this door. The other for does not do this, and this for hasn't always until now. This is super frustrating! The auto stop feature still doesn't work when I stop at lights, and I miss having separate DVD and cd players. I also miss the on board mp3 player that was in our last model. My value is also in the toilet. For a Honda, I thought it would hold a better value. Now I'm waiting to get rid of it. End update. Update 7/2019 We still have to make sure Cabin Watch is turned off on trips in order to watch a DVD. It is set to automatically turn on with the van, so it sucks when we forget to change it and the DVD and camera system freezes. In order to fix it, we have to stop and turn the van off. The auto idle still doesn't work 90% of the time. Honda just ignores these issues and hasn't come up with repairs. Nowhere in the manual or when we purchased the van were we told about these issues existing. We were excited to be able to watch our kids in the back on trips. That's not what we got. We're still missing our old van, but this one still has features we like..... When they work! Updatee 12/28/18 22,000 miles on our odometer now. We still have issues with the DVD system and in-cabin camera freezing and not working until we turn the van off and on a few times. The dealership said Honda blames the Cabin watch camera. They said that it overheats the system. So, we can't watch the camera for long periods of time or it will shut down the DVD system. The overall entertainment system is sub par. You have to use the DVD player for CDs too. Maybe we're old fashioned, but we still like CDs every now and then. Our last Odyssey had built in memory that you could use as an mp3 player. I'm sad they did away with that in this model. The auto stop feature works sometimes. They replaced the brake pedal, but it randomly works. This is my 2nd Odyssey purchase of a brand new vehicle. I owned a 2012 from new until this year without a single problem. We decided to switch to the 2018 this year after seeing all of the fun new features. I regret that every time I drive this van! 1- the blu ray does not play blu ray movies. It will play previews and gets stuck on the main menu and never start the movie. Regular dvds also glitch. The player will get stuck on the main screen with a regular disc and won't play the movie until we push stop then play again. There are times it won't work at all and we have had to pull off the highway to stop the van and restart it multiple times before the dvd player would even work. 2- The auto stop feature hasn't worked 90% of the 7 months we've owned this van. It worked after we made a trip last month, but stopped again and hasn't worked since. 3- The foot to open the tailgate hasn't worked the last several times I've tried to use it. It hardly works. 4- The camera for the back seats keeps freezing, and sometimes it doesn't work. 5- The gps is great when the features work. The "traffic ahead" feature has only worked a couple of times. 6- The internet is through AT&T, and we hardly used it during the trial period, but they claimed we used up the data allotted. We watched one hour long show that whole time. GMC has it straight using OnStar internet! 7- The object detection has almost caused me to crash a couple of times. It slammed my brakes to a grind in the middle of a busy intersection because the car in front of me was turning slowly as I passed it. 8- The auto bright lights is annoying. It turns my brights on when cars are still around and I wouldn't be using them. I read in the features that the sliding door buttons would not freeze each other and stop the door if they bit get pushed, but the doors freeze if my son and I push the buttons any time close to each other. I miss my 2012! Everything worked great on that van! I've never experienced so many glitches with a brand new car as I have with this one! We've bought 5 new cars in the last 5 years too! The Honda dealership just told us that we'd have an update soon to fix the dvd player. That was 2 months ago. I'm so disappointed! It's a beautiful van, but nothing works like its supposed to.

Avoid this car
The Odyssey is comfortable, gets pretty good mileage, and has nice safety features, including rear camera, lane keeping assistance, lane change warning, collision avoidance. BUT, my car would not unlock every time, and that's a problem. Sometimes it was just the driver's door, and other times it was all the doors. Also, it has no CD player, and when you try to load music from a flash drive it will alphabetize the tracks rather than play them in the proper order. A pain that they say they cannot fix. After strongly implying that my door lock problems were all in my head, they finally agreed to try to fix the car, but only after I mentioned the lemon law. Whether they will fix it remains to be seen. Nobody needs these problems. Don't buy this car. Update: Yesterday, the dealer told me that the problem was a pinched cable inside the door, and they claim to have fixed it. That remains to be seen, but at least they now acknowledge that there is a problem. Apparently, within a few days, somebody else had brought back an Odyssey with the exact same problem. Overall, I think this is a good car, but a car that locks you out can have a lot of wonderful features and you still wish you had not bought it.

Not reliable - don't buy!
I bought my Honda Odyssey in May 2018 from Open Road Honda in New Jersey. This is my first mini-van, and was excited. After going through multiple reviews, I shortlisted Chrysler Pacifica and Honda Odyssey. My final decision to buy Odyssey was based on outstanding reviews about the vehicle. After two months, I will not recommend this vehicle. My primary problem is with the sliding door. It has a mind of its own - it will abruptly stop functioning and will never budge. I had tow my BRAND NEW HONDA in the very first month because the sliding door did not close. The service folks retained the vehicle for a day to run diagnostics and returned the car a day later. A month later, the problem has come up again. My park is currently parked with the door half open. When I call the service department, they are giving me an appointment a week later. After a bit of curt messaging, they agreed for me to come today. Bottomline - people buy minivan because of its utility for families with children. If the sliding door does not work properly, its a serious safety issue. So, I will not recommend. [[SO MUCH FOR THE MUCH TOUTED JAPANESE QUALITY AND PREMIUM]]

Stranded on the road
The 2018 Honda van is terrible. It flashes thru the following while driving: vehicle stability control (vsa) problem, road departure mitigation problem, power steering system problem (eps), hill start assist problem, emissions system problem, brake system problem, brake hold system problem. The van engine shuts itself off while driving and sometimes restarts after it sits a little while. The transmission jerks and sometimes won’t allow the van to go faster than 15 mph. One time the van sat on the freeway with cars swerving around it after it died and I had to get out and stand on the shoulder of the road. Called Honda road side assistance and the heavy middle eastern accent guy told me I had to get a taxi and they will send a tow truck to get the van. I let he van sit and then it restarted. Took it to the dealership a couple times and they reset the computer. Last Honda I buy.

Disappointed with my 2018 Honda Odyssey
I had a 2005 Honda Odyssey for 12 years with over 200K miles on it. I loved my Odyssey as I didn't have any major problems with it until the end of its useful life. So naturally I thought my best option for my new vehicle was to get another Odyssey. In June, I decided on the 2018 Honda Odyssey Elite, top of the line. Before my first oil change I noticed so many issues. I never had that problem with my first Odyssey. One major issue is my GPS system. It has given me the wrong directions several times. I brought it to the attention of the dealership when I got my first oil change. They said they could not duplicate the problem. They only drove it around the block. I told them that I had specific addresses to prove it to them. I called American Honda Care. They suggested I video tape some examples. So I did that and e-mailed them to my Honda dealer. They are still telling me that they would need to duplicate the problem. They can easily do that by driving to the locations. But they aren't allowed to drive more than a couple of miles away. I told them it is not very likely they would be able to duplicate it at the dealership. They can see in the videos that the directions are telling me to turn right when the destination is visibly on the left. Another issue I had recently was that I pulled into my driveway, push the button to turn off the radio and then proceeded to get out of my van. I noticed my radio hadn't turned off. So I pushed the button again. The screen said Audio Off. But my radio was still on. I couldn't even turn it up or down. Even when I opened my car door it would not turn off. I decided to videotape that situation as well. I called Honda Roadside assistance as it was night time and the dealership was closed. They could not help me. After about 15 minutes the radio finally turned off on its own. I didn't want to go into the house with the radio still on as it could have drained my battery over night. Another issue is that my Apple CarPlay does not work well. Honda told me the problem could be that I am using an after market USB cord from Verizon. I told them when I bought my Honda I still had my original Apple USB cord and I had the same problems. The screen will say that my CarPlay isn't connected even when it is. I have to keep putting the USB cord in and take it out for it to work. Most of the time I don't have the functionality to do a voice text or have the system read me a text. I have had to reset PBS for my daughter a couple of times already. The van is loud for a new van. My 2005 wasn't even that loud after 12 years. For the money I paid for the van I don't expect to hear it at all. The last time I called Honda I was told they are waiting for other reports of the issues and recall information from Honda. My report and videos should be enough to at least get my van repaired while it is still under warranty. My van is only a few months old. I should not have these issues. Other issues that don't happen all the time is that the hands free rear door process doesn't work all the time. I watched the YouTube video on how it is supposed to work and I do that each time. It is faster for me to unlock it with my remote. My right side blind spot indicator doesn't always work either. Several times cars will pass by and the light will not come on. That is another issue Honda couldn't duplicate. These things don't happen all the time. Another issue I had while driving home one day was that my radio/GPS panel completely shut off and went blank while I was driving. it came back on before I got home. I have no idea what happened. I was driving. So I couldn't investigate anything. My A/C doesn't work as well as it did on my 2005 model. On my 2018 in order to cool my van down I have to put it on Lo and turn the fan up full blast. In my 2005 Odyssey if it was 100 degrees outside I could put it on 72 and feel cool inside. If you are having problems as well, please let Honda know. They told me they didn't have any reports of complaints. But I have seen a couple on here with different issues.

Do Not Buy A Poor Built Odyssey
Straight out of the dealership It went in for alignment a defective sreering wheel. Air Conditioning issues the doors are all out of alignment. This car still drives horrible even after alignment. It constantly wants to go either right or left having to steer without rest to keep it straight. I regret this $50,000 mistake. Shame on you Honda for building such a horrible product. You really gave yourself a bad name.

Transmission failure at 75,411 miles !
I knew this was going to happen; Honda decided to "re-engineer" the transmission for the 2018 Honda Odyssey, and it's going to be a HUGE HEADACHE for the company! I have owned a 2007, 2011,2014, and now, a 2018 Honda Odyssey. I drive an average of 400 miles per day, 90% Highway, in the North Carolina Piedmont area. Love my 2014 for the most part. Put over 300k miles on it before trading, and never had any major mechanical issue. From the very beginning, I was not happy with the 2018. The transmission acted like it never new what gear to go into, and I was getting worse fuel mileage than the 2014 model. I started noticing noise from the drive train early on. If I eased off the gas, while slowing down in traffic, or approaching a stop light, and then re-accelerated, many times the transmission would hesitate, and then "bang" into gear, making a metal-on-metal noise. At first, it was not very loud, and just slightly noticeable, but as time went by and I put more mile on the car, it became louder and much more noticeable! I took it to Autopark Honda in Cary several times with this complaint.. and I would always get the "We can't replicate the problem" response. The last time I took it in, the car had about 58,000 miles on it and the drive train warranty soon to expire. That time, the mechanic acknowledged that the was definitely an issue, and had communicated with Honda Tech, but no resolution offered! I was told that they would "stand behind the car", should something happen. Well, something happened.. the transmission failed. The first call from a Service Advisor told me the repair would cost almost $6,200 ! But then added that they would submit a claim to Honda Goodwill. The next day, I was informed that Honda would pay all but $1261 (which must be their actual hardware cost), of the repair. I find this unacceptable! While I appreciate that they are willing to pay a large part of the cost; a Honda transmission should not fail at 75,000 miles.. period! Honda stupidly decided to re-engineer a perfectly good transmission, and came up with a dud. I am also sure that my situation will not be an isolated one. During my 58,000 mile visit, I was given a 2019 Odyssey as a loaner for a few days. It made the very same noise! So if you own a 2018 or newer Odyssey... beware! And make certain that you are having the transmission fluid serviced every 30k miles, or you will no doubt be denied any help when (no if), your transmission fails.

2018 is #4
The 2018 is almost all new mechanically, much better seats than 2016 trade in, handling better, trans shifts smooth, rides better. However, if you like really complex dash displays with confusing settings, this one has that. Changing dash displys will get a compass, but, going back is a pain. Radio over designed, needs eye off the road for many functions, . when backing up, side mirrors shift to view ground. I want to see whats next to me, not the ground! THERE IS NO SEPERATE COMPASS!!!!! I finally googled this, then found , no compass. The owner's manual is about 1/3 thick as my 2018 F150. Another words, big lack of details. Wonder if the engineers and designers live in US? The vehicle mechanics are great, drives good, fit and finish are good, dealer service is great. Will look at toyota next time. August 14, 2018, a recent 1000 mile trip resulted in lower back ache from drivers seat. Lumbar was not of any help. Van handles well on road, the manual shift levers are too easy to accidently hit by mistake. Its a nice car, but Honda missed the mark. Update 2/15 19: 2 Recalls, 1 for sliding door latches, 1 for power window switches. Gas milage hiway avg 26mpg. Trans shifting is twitchy at low speed. Instruments are a pain, radio, clock settings require eyes off road. This is last Honda for me.

Cheaply made.
I had 2015 Sienna which was about to end Lease. Family thought of moving into something else after owning two Siennas and shape staying the same. Well leased Honda Odyssey exl 2018 for 499 a month 0 down. no doubt it does have some good safety features more than Sienna but the ride is rough than Toyota. Exterior cheaply made . front and rear bumper not aligned correctly. Had to go back to dealer to have it aligned. Over there I saw other odyssey with same issue. My rear window started making clicking noise . they stated loose connection on a new car with 100 miles. Interior has no compass, seat doesn't go high enough, cheap interior material, went location on side so stupid, no place to stow the middle seat, sliding doors jam, third row has only cup holders, no compartment, no speakers, no sunshade and the window is fixed so you can't open for ventilation!!!. Shame on Honda, my first and last Honda. If my family wouldn't insist, I would've never leased it. Let's see what happens later.

Uncomfortable seats
Very close to purchasing the 2018 Honda Odyssey but opted for the Sienna instead. Generally, I like the latest tech (Odyssey has Apple Play but Sienna does not) ... interestingly however, I actually prefer the knob transmission handle (and round A/C knob) on the Sienna instead of the transmission buttons on the 2018 Odyssey. One of our best friends bought the 2018 Odyssey EX-L and loves it (although GPS didn't work properly to get the right destination). I was disappointed that the 2018 Odyssey A/C vents for the 2nd/3rd row seats are on the side of the vehicle (bad for hot weather days) instead of the ceiling like the Sienna. Nevertheless, I still would have purchased the 2018 Odyssey but the one thing that killed the purchase were the UNCOMFORTABLE seats. I was willing to upgrade (spend more) getting the Elite because it had perforated seats in the 1st/2nd rows which offers a bit more cushion but still nowhere as comfortable as the Sienna seating. I sat in the 2nd row of my best friend's 2018 Odyssey EX-L during a ride ... and seating felt so uncomfortable (too hard) that I actually disliked the whole ride experience - it seems to be a bit more noisy than the Sienna ride too. In all fairness, the Elite does have ventilated seats as standard in the front seats which the Sienna does not have.

Great for the Heat...not for the cold.
We bought the 2018 Honda Odyssey to replace our 2006 Toyota Sienna. So alot has happened technologically so that was something getting used to. Although I still am mourning the loss of the CD player...but we will have to find a way. The controls for the temperatures are another story...I don't mind that things are touch-screen, but some things just can be reached without taking off the gloves...and when the windchill is -20 degree outside, it's pretty tough. PLUS we spent an entire 8 hour drive from Chicago to Cleveland trying to figure out how to get the defrost/defogger to work properly. We ended up with windows that were frosted ON THE INSIDE of the car because we couldn't figure out the proper settings. All in all the van is good. Just the temperature controls have issues. In terms, of interior storage...we found that the back seats don't lie completely flat. There are bumps and ridges on the seats that would not allow you to lay something down. For example...if I wanted to sleep in the back of the van while camping, it would be very hard because the molding on the seats would make it near impossible to only have a sleeping bag. You would need a mattress to cover up the plastic on the backs of the seats.

DO NOT BUY
I owned a brand new Honda back in 2009 and when the a/c shot after 3.5 years of owning the car (in upstate NY mind you), I vowed I would never purchase a Honda again. Especially because I missed the warranty by 1,000 miles and the dealership wouldn't stand behind the repairs and wanted more than the car was worth to fix it. I digress. Fast forward to 2018, I now have 2 children in carseats and a third on the way. I bought the Odyssey mainly because of the 2nd row seats the move side to side. Because I will have three under three in carseats, access to the back row was incredibly important to me. This is the only manufacturer at this time that offers this sliding seat option. So, hesitantly, I test drove the Honda and was assured the a/c in the van was phenomenal and was told several times that the technology was amazing etc etc. I have had the car for 3 weeks and I loathe it. LOATHE it. If I could return it today, I would in a heart beat. I now reside in TN and the summers get in the upper 90s, 100s. When its that hot out, the a/c doesn't work for a long time. 17 minutes I had HOT air blowing in my face and on my children in the back seat. Yes, 17 minutes. I tried turning econ mode off as suggested on several forums with no luck of it improving. Mind you, after the 17 minutes of it blasting on "Lo" it wasn't even cold air that began to come out. It was simply cool. Felt like 73 degree air (this is what I ran my Subaru Legacy at). Lo claims to be less than 58 degrees. No way is that possible. I called the dealership and they immediately said they would get it in to look at it. The lady was sweet and after she heard me rave about my Subaru, suggested that their umbrella of dealerships also sells Subaru and the Ascent is coming out with the third row option. Informed her I wish I went that route, but seeing how I just dropped $40k not even a month ago on this piece of junk, I would likely not get what I paid for it now. Hung up with her, end of work day comes and I go to pick up my kids. I started the car while walking about @ 3:50. Arrived at daycare within minutes and left the car running while going in to get them because it was STILL blowing HOT air. I figured, I am going to be in there for a minute getting them, surely it will be running cool by then. 4:08 I am exiting the daycare and HOT AIR is still blowing. My car felt hotter inside that it did outside. It was 98 degrees outside per the car gage. Loaded my kids in, hoping driving would help. 4:17 I finally started to feel relatively cool air coming out, again STILL NOT COLD LO AIR that you would expect. This is garbage. A brand new van, blowing HOT air while on Lo. After reading several reviews on here, I am NOT the only consumer who purchased this massive heat vessel that is beyond dissatisfied. I now am beyond concerned to add another baby to this car and force one of my littles to sit in the back of this hot box. I would not purchase this car if you're looking. Keep looking. In fact, go to Subaru instead. If I can afford to, I plan on getting rid of this car asap and buying the Ascent. The moveable 2nd row seats and sliding doors are NOT worth the money on this thing. I would rather deal with the inconvenience of trying to access the third row and swing out doors that deal with this junk.

Do Not Buy this car...Odyessey Elite 2018
This car has numerous electronic and software issues that Honda America is unable to fix. Dealers continue to sell these vehicles without disclosing the problems. Do your homework and buy a Sienna or Chevy. If you buy the Elite, plan on the following; Sirius XM Radio will work occasionally, Cabin Watch and park sense cameras will lock up and won't work until the car goes through a hard reset, the cabin doors will not repsond to the auto open and close until a hard reset is performed, the DVD system will lock up and won't play until a hard reset is performed, the infotainment system is immature and is still being debugged by Honda Engineers, the voice command system seldom works or responds. The dealer service department will acknowledge that they can't fix the problems. We brought it back 9 times since Jan 2018-April 18 without any fixes made other than reseting which involves disconnecting the battery and waiting 15 minutes for the system to reset. Honda Customer Care America also offers no help with the SW problems. It is a Lemon Law candidate as well as a class action law suit for fraud.

Do Not waste your money
In October 2017 my family leased a 2018 odyssey. We were so excited because it was our first car with navigation and the rear entertainment system! My kids were so happy to have this feature however our excitement was short lived. Almost immediately we noticed problems with the car - the navigation system didn't work and the DVD system was broken - it constantly lost connection. Needless to say, my kids never have been able to watch a movie from beginning to end without it losing connection. The car was brought in for service to fix the issue. The first time I was blamed saying I used scratched DVD's. The second time I was told there is nothing that can be done and I must wait until they figure out how to fix it which could take months even years. For the last 6 weeks I've been dealing with corporate - they are no help and will not offer any compensation for a brand new car that does not work. I always thought Hondas were reliable cars built to last but the only thing I can rely on is the car not working properly!

Poor driver seat comfort!
I have owned 4 odyssey and was thinking about trading in my 2014 for the 2018, until I test drove it. The front driver seat arm rest is as thin as a dime and not adjustable. Go look at the Sienna of Pacifica instead. Hopefully Honda reads this and fixes this problem, otherwise I am purchasing my next minivan from Toyota or Chrysler. Will wait and see what changes 2019 brings...

Console interface - Wonky
Our last car was an 8-seat Sienna. It needed major $ fixes after 86K miles. So we tried the 8-seat Odyssey. Like the reviews said, we also found the console interface wonky and too distracting. How can you drive and navigate the console at the same time? Even to switch from AM to FM is a chore. There is an app which ties your smartphone into the screen-console, and that doesn't work well at all, especially if you have an Android. We also found that the passenger door does not close without slamming it, and we need to bring it back for a fix. The salesman was a little pushy and we feel he lied to us.

Poor placement of controls
Love the safety features, Auto braking, rear camera, ACC. Not a single button for control of navigation/ radio/DVD, etc. It becomes very difficult to change a radio or scan as little bump would move the finger. Great if the car is standstill. They should have had the round button/ within the reach of R hand so we don’t have to look at the screen and try to touch it. Very poor design. Not sure what kind of focus group they used. The horn is a single horn and is not very loud and can be a safety issue during highway rides

Most of our "elite" features don't work!!!
We bought this van after my 11 year old car bit the dust. After being a loyal Toyota customer, it was a big risk for me to get a Honda- but all of my friends "love" their Honda, and we thought we would too. We purchased our 2018 Honda Odyssey Elite in July of 2017 and many of the key features still do not work. Almost every time we are on a road trip and use the Rear Entertainment System, the screen turns black and there is weeping and gnashing of teeth in the back. The CabinWatch camera often freezes or is unable to connect altogether. The hands-free voice commands/calling while connected to ApplyPlay stops working often. I have spent HOURS documenting the errors and trying to speak with HondaCare, but they closed my case until an update was available. There was an update on Wednesday and I have had issues with all three of the aforementioned problems in the past 16 hours. Keeping notes, pictures and videos of all the things wrong with my nice, EXPENSIVE, new van has been a part-time job since I purchased this vehicle. Although it is very convenient for toting little children around, I would do just about anything to trade this van in and get something else. ** UPDATE OCT. 2018** My van has been in the shop for nearly a month and they are still unable to fix the problems with our van. Very disappointing!

Technology disaster but updates fixed most issues
Upadte: some issues ar fixed with updates. Bluetooth works, Siri is iffy but works. The armrest movement is put on reverse and Honda says everything is fine, instead of going down from level position, it goes up pointing towards sky. What good is it that? No car seat position can utilize that mode of armrest, don’t know who tried it.

Most unreliable car I have ever had!
2018 is redesigned model and maybe it explains why it has so many bugs. In the first 3 days of driving my van left sliding door stuck and wouldn't open at all. Dealer had to replace entire lock to fix this issue. After that engine idle shutdown intermittently doesn't work (wasn't able to replicate at the dealer). A few more issues also happen randomly while driving are: screen goes completely blank or frozen, GPS stops giving a guidance, music doesn't play from USB or creating a horrible noise, Bluetooth connection goes off (consequently phone cannot connect), anti theft system losing a power, speakers producing distorted sound. I am extremely frustrated with this car and afraid to drive it far away as it is not reliable. Other cons: conditioning is horrible, laud and inefficient; speakers are junk (totally inappropriate for elite model, not even made by infinity, but Honda); engine is very inefficient as consumes so much gasoline compare to all my other cars I owned. Honda Odyssey is a biggest disappointment!

Lemon?
Well...car has been in the shop 5 times outside of normal maintenance. All of which they required the problem to reproduce in front of them before they would do anything. So really 10 times and lots of video with the problems before they believed what we were saying. Anyways.... First it was XM antenna problems (which they said was software but ended up being hardware) and they replaced Second HDMI unit behind middle console was faulty Third...BOTH motors on sliding doors needed replaced as they ended up shutting in a clunky fashion or just opened up again without shutting Fourth...recall due to the latches Fifth...emission lights which required replacement of fuel injectors Expecting sixth and beyond in the next few months after warranty is up since we have 32000 miles on it. Honda corporate will do nothing to extend the warranty since they are fixing all the problems. My complaint was that there should not be this many problems on a vehicle just over one year old! Good thing is the dealership is friendly.
Not happy
2018 odyssey is not the van we expected compared to previous ones. We have had 16 in the past 17 years due to high mileage. Temperature gauge reading to small, leg room less due to kneeair bag,my wife has a problem getting intofront seat due to knee problems previous ones no problem getting in,front console cause less leg room to center second seat no room for adult leg room previous ones no problem, second row seat back does not go down flat to seat, hard to get to third row seats, and used to beable to haul 4-8 plywood now is a problem also hauled snowblower to our sons place now not able to cargo space smaller also due to second row seat back not going flat, fuel smaller 19.5 compared to previous 21.5 could get almost 600 miles on a fill now only 470 or so maybe last odyssey we get just not what previous 2000-2017 were. We are people that like comfort, room, hauling ability, mileage. We transported track high school girls and many other school activities.lastly my wife had her seat back and our granddaughter asked if she could slide her seat up alittle, others odyssey’s this would not have happened so in closing i would not recommend 2018 odyessey ex to anybody, also no compass now and no homelink system which we used for 3 different garage door openers and they need to put camera back in right side blindspot mirror and show up on screen so you can see distance. Am radio has static in where before we did not so yes we are very dissatisfied with this one, don’t like shifting push button prefer shift lever also wish they would go back to key instead of push start because you can get out of car and forget to shut off. Getting lots of road noise drivers side. Also slow to resume speed on cruise control, overall honda as screwed up on 2018 model. Getting lots of front end noise and just not comfortable ride may scale down to crv

Don't buy!
We owned a 2012 Odyssey and were very happy with it, but it was time to upgrade. We acquired the 2018 Odyssey Elite with all the options. We're very unhappy with the upgrade because the entertainment system occasionally stops working. That means the Blue Ray, Cabin Watch, everything all of the sudden shuts off. We need to stop the car, turn it off, turn it back on, and hope the system comes back to life. We brought it to the dealership immediately, and we were told this is a known problem, Honda knows about it, and there's no solution. "Check back in 90 days" is the answer we got in writing! Can you believe this?! Please save yourself headaches and buy something else. Of course the sales people at the Honda dealerships will never tell you that. This model is full of other smaller bugs, too many to list here. Looks like a car that was not fully tested before getting to market.

This Minivan Rocks even More!
This is a great minivan! Traded our celestial blue metallic 2011 Honda Odyssey EX-L Res with an obsidian blue pearl 2018 Honda Odyssey EX-L Navi/RES with rear parking assist. Definitely noticed the greater power in driving especially with ECO off. Steering is quick. The engine sound especially on acceleration sounds like that of a big SUV or truck this time compared to the 2011 but the cabin is more quiet than ever. The ride and drive are smoother and more peaceful. ECO mode is no longer automatic. The driver has the option when to and not to activate it which I like very much. Fuel economy is driver dependent and route dependent but for most is well above the 28.0mpg. My best was 28.3mpg in a 279miles highway route. Driving through the mountains in Tennessee and North Carolina got me just 26.5 to 27.0mpg. My city mileage is 23-24mpg (Right now, it's 24.1). Snow Mode is good in snowy and icy road conditions. I no longer have to shut this car in the garage during snow and use the CRV. But snow mode driving yields lower mpg and I got only like 21mpg in the snow. I guess my concern during that time is not fuel efficiency but road efficiency in that snowy condition. I love the safety techs-- blindspot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane watch, lane-keeping assist (which automatically steers the car back to the lane) and collision mitigation (which automatically activates the brake to avoid collision). The cruise control wont work at speeds below 20mph but I don't mind as I use that feature only in long drives when I tire behind the wheels. I also like the addition of cross-traffic monitoring in the surround backup camera which warns me when a car or a pedestrian is approaching me and I'm about to back up. I found the seats rather firm than in my 2011 when we got this 2018. But over time, the seats have become comfortable for both the driver and the passengers while still looking and feeling like new. Both the 2nd row and 3rd row feel more spacious and better accessible than in the 2011. The cargo trunk has gone bigger too but the 2011 had a big trunk already. I don't need to take off the 2nd row seats for extra storage but I demand a big trunk space for long trips. As for entertainment, this has gone high-def and modern as the rear entertainment system is based on blu ray, HDMI output and it can also play HD files using USB drives. It has a bigger car hard drive storage for music (Honda Music) which can directly store mp3 and m4a files now. Overall, this minivan is really an improvement of the previous minivan (2011). What it is missing from the 2011 are the 4 bag hooks it used to have in the trunk behind the 3rd row seats which were useful in keeping in place those Walmart grocery bags and also the mini-cooler which was really useful for me because I can put a few drinks and coffee bottles for the drive.

DO NOT BUY THIS CAR !!!
I have this car since March of 2018, I was very excited to have the 2018 Elite to replace my 2014 Odyssey 2014. Since the day that I took it from the dealer I had problems with the paint, it has rust spots that are not coming out. The passenger side slide door almost broke my daughter’s hand just a week ago. Honda Cars of America and the car dealer are telling me that it is normal on 2018 models and that the sensors are supposed to work that way. Now, today, the rear entreteintment system is not working. The cabin watch fails very often as well. When we set the cruise control, the van never gets to the pre set speed, it is always running at a lower speed than the pre seted. I am so disappointed with the car and it’s qual that I will recommend everyone to please, look for another option when it comes to invest on a car for your family, I can warranty you, this car is not a good one.

Ten Cu Ft Less than my 2008 Odyssey
The second row seats are on a dolly of sorts that can not be removed. It is no longer wide enough for a 4X8 sheet of plywood to fit without angling it. It has 10 cu ft less cargo carrying volume than my 2008 Odyssey. All of these are non-starters for me.

Exterior 7/10, Interior 9/10, Driving 8/10, Tranny
Purchased this as i love styling & handling of Honda compare to Toyota (now a days Toyota have great exterior look!). Exterior look was great on 2014-2017 model on side giving solid look. New 2018 side view is horrible, but from front and rear it is looking okay/good. I wish they can offer LED headlights for EXL trims but i am very much disappointed despite paid over 40K i do not have LED headlights. Honda only offer LED headlights for Touring and Elite models which cost 5K to 7K more than EXL RES & NAV I purchased. I love keyless entry and push button start feature, auto seat position for 2 person and auto seat move back as soon as stop engine to get easy access in and out. RES feature is good as i can pay music and video thru USB drive. Useless blue-ray player as most people now a days use USB so Honda could save us some money not having blue-ray drive. Instrument panel has screen which is great. also has turn by turn guidance within. Leather seats are great. Air vents position for rear passengers is located on seating position so that baby in rear face carseat have lots of trouble getting cold air. Trunk cargo floor area is not flush/straight (at center it has bump!) Auto Start feature is included which is awesome! Floor mats quality is too cheap. interior lights are not LED either! Sound quality is acceptable so that i do not think to upgrade. Built in navigation is good. Have android and Apple Car Play but to use of it you have to plug your phone with same USB that you are using with Music and Video! I really disappointed here as if i wanted to use car play and kids also wanted to watch movies; both cannot be happen at same time. My parents said that seating inside this car is more comfortable and spacious than my sisters 2011 Toyota Sienna. Steering wheel is so much responsive too. Acceleration is not good. Feels Like Lake of Power, but may be bcoz this is Van not Car! Overall 8/10 rating. 2 points taken out for Noting giving LED headlights on 40K car, Pickup/acceleration is low and look from side is horrible (giving lines that kill Hondas sharp design). I was one of the fan of Thunderbolt 3rd row design which now they have killed. I was waiting for Toyota van to compare with Honda but Sienna for 2018 is still same one since 2011 and there is no redesign till 2019. at last Wheels looks for EXL is not modern and reminds me 2014 year wheel. Edit 11/14/18 after driving 15 months 5500 miles. Dealer supports are worst. Went to dealer for recall and transmission slip/jerk issue. After they remove and reinstall recall parts now my working 2nd row windows not working!! revisit them and they dont have clue why it is happening. Transmission jerks at low speed driving at 24 /25mph. this is totally not acceptable. If this happening right after 1500 miles imagine what will be happens after 40000 miles. Dealer says this is normal for Honda transmission. If this is true, I advice all buyers to stay away from this 9 speed and buy either 10 speed or go for other choices.

50K car with HORRIBLE air conditioning...
50K for this brand new car. The air conditioning will stop blowing cold air when you are in traffic or in a parking lot. Basically..anytime you stop...you better be ready for the air conditioning to start blowing warm then hot air. Dealership will say they can not replicate it, I can replicate it everytime I drive it. When we are moving, the air is not COLD. I have rented a different car on vacation and we had to turn the air down because it was too cold, this Honda Elite never gets cold in hot weather. IT IS TERRIBLE and your kids will tell you how hot they are. Honda NEEDS to fix this!!!!! 8/27/19 Still an issue with the air conditioning. It decides to warm up if you are stuck in traffic regardless of whatever button you push. Air cond still sucks big time.

New car with old issue with sliding doors.
Nice looking car. The only 1K on the odometer, but already have issues. The driver sliding door stop working and not closing. I stopped on my way to conference open the door to pick up staff from back sits and can't close door anymore. Calls to Honda road assistance - they can offer only tall track and delivery me to close dealership. I don't know how - but I found the fuse block on the back of the trunk, opened this compartment and pull the yellow strap, something clicking and I can mechanically close the door and continue my trip. But it scares if such event happens when kids in the broken car and you can't continue your trip and can't return to home, with the open sliding door. Another aspect - the middle row sits removing procedures, a sit can't be folded and loc in this position as in the old model, they not lock inclining position, they are still flexible when you need to remove them and it makes this process more difficult if compare with the old model of Odyssey. Update - today Feb. 2021. I don't see the reported issue appears during all those years anymore. Change rating to 5 stars.

Worst new vehicle ever purchased
My 2013 Odyssey was way better. My 2018 brakes squeak been in the shop 5 times and just told they are fine and that it is normal? Vehicle last week was driving 75mph and had adaptive cruise control on and nobody was in front of me a vehicle exiting in the right lane and randomly vehicle slammed on break and I went from 75 down to 55 and the car behind me almost rear ended me. I sensed the vehicle to the side of me in another lane and randomly slammed on the brakes cause it thought it was in my lane. Seats a very uncomfortable. Power sliding doors are very slow and under powered. Auto lights at night constantly flash on and off brights even when cars are driving at you. I have owned 5 Honda and used to love them but I think I am going to have to move to another brand of vehicle

Buyer's Remorse
I bought two brand new Honda vehicles within the past 6 months. The first one was a Pilot AWD EX-L and the 2nd one the 2018 Honda Odyssey. The Odyssey has been a disappointment. The infotainment is glitchy sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. The rear doors may not completely close and may require several attempts to get them to close. The front seats are harsh and uncomfortable. The seats on the Pilot are more comfortable. Acceleration in the Honda Odyssey is lackluster, I just can feel any the power. The Pilot is quirky even on ECCO mode. Forget about using ECCO mode on the Odyssey. The ACL is a pain and have caused some near misses like suddenly braking when trying to change a lane at freeway speeds. It also lacks enough USB ports and the gap in the middle console is hideous. I am not a fan of the push button transmission and emergency breaks. I would rather have then in the foot area. I should have bought another Honda Pilot instead of this land yacht.

My car has a couple of product defects
I find a couple of critical product defects and minor issues from Odyssey 2018, experiencing from last 8 month driving. A sliding door at driver side doesn't close, especially outside at hot weather. It seems Honda is evaluating the recall but I haven't got any update from dealer since the report. Windshield is easy to crack. On a high way, the windshield started to crack from the top at driver side and grew gradually. I can guess when it has some impact. About 30 min before the crack started, some dust fell off from the truck ahead and flown to my windshield with tick sounds. I cannot believe how easy the windshield is to crack. I will go to dealer shop but I really want to return this car. I used Honda Accord for 8 years but no single issue but with this Odyssey 2018, I face many critical issues during last 8 months. Why is there big difference in quality with the same car manufacturers?

If only I could take back this purchase...
I own two Honda Odysseys - a 2008 model (bottom of the line) and this new 2018. The more I drive it, the more I dislike my 2018. Why? ERGONOMICS: The 2008 was superior in every way to the 2018. I'm reasonably large, and my 2008 has enough foot-space for my size-13 water-ski feet to rest comfortably on the left of the driver's footwell; in the 2018, the front wheel well impinges on the foot-space. On the 2008, I have an upper and a lower glove box; on the 2018 I get but a single. On the 2008, there is a pull-out cup holder that can accept HUGE cups; on the 2018, the center console offers the only (smaller) cup holders. The 2008 is wider and taller than the 2018, and the more cramped interior on the newer van shows. The controls on the 2008 are simple and intuitive; on the 2018, everything from the push-button shifting to the air conditioning fan speed buttons, to the temperature adjustments require you to take your eyes off the road to find the control that you need. The control complexity of the 2018 is really bad. ACCESSORIES/SERVICE: I purchased the optional backup beepers. The dealer's service department installed half of the sensors upside-down, and the beepers went crazy every time I tried to back up. It took more than a half-dozen overnight stays at the service department (despite me telling them clearly again and again what the problem was) before they got it fixed. My 2008 van has WeatherTech mats that fit; the WT mats for the 2018 are too short to reach the back of the van from the back of the second row of seats, and Honda can recommend none that they know of that are better. TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS: With or without the green "fuel-saver" option enabled, the 2018 van has extremely sluggish acceleration with a very funny throttle response. The transmission shifts at odd times and at odd RPMs. The acceleration is not smooth, and the transmission makes funny noises. The fuel economy is terrible. I can go almost twice as far on a tank of gas with my 2008 Odyssey than I can with the 2018. CONCLUSION: This car was horrendously expensive. It is not as comfortable or as efficient as my 2008 Odyssey. Consumer Reports magazine has put this 2018 Odyssey model on their "Do Not Buy" list for its problems (the CR information was not available to me at the time I purchased my 2018 Odyssey). Honda has fallen to #15 in the Consumer Reports reliability rankings (primarily because of this Odyssey). Despite all the features in this 2018 Odyssey that I have absolutely no use for (sunroof, rear-seat entertainment system, etc.), the vehicle lacks important features that it SHOULD have (rain sensing automatic windshield wipers, heads-up display, automatic stop-and-go acceleration and braking, etc.). If only I could take back this purchase, I'd have chosen something else. And this is my last Honda - sell me a lemon once, shame on you; sell me a lemon twice, shame on me! My conclusion is simple - DON'T buy a Honda Odyssey! UPDATE AFTER A YEAR OF OWNERSHIP: The transmission shifting has gotten even rougher. There's a series of big jerks when accelerating. The driver's seat memory won't stay set on the current driver. It reverts to "Driver 1 regardless of who drove it last. The auto door locks don't auto-lock anymore nor do the doors open at my touch as they should. The dealer's shop just gives me the old "we couldn't duplicate the problem" run-around I still wish I'd bought a Toyota. UPDATE IN DECEMBER OF 2019: The transmission on this van is DANGEROUS. There is supposed to be a "learning function" in the software that adjusts the shifting to the driver's habits. But those settings may be the cause highly unpredictable shifting. Sometimes, when I want to pull into fast traffic from a stop, the engine will rev from 0.5 seconds up to a full second before the car starts to move. When the transmission does "catch," sometimes it engages with a jerk and other times the car will begin to slooooooooowly accelerate, even though I have my foot firmly on the gas pedal. I've already had two "near-misses" due to the transmission's unpredictability. Causes (according to the dealer) may include the fact that my wife and I both drive the van, and have significantly different driving habits. The use of "Eco" mode was also stated as a potential problem. Despite identifying these potential problems, the dealer shop says they have no way to disconnect the learning function of the transmission. They said to petition Honda. I've done so and also reported my problems to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. I didn't buy a new car for a dangerous and unreliable transmission, and Honda needs to fix this. 2021 UPDATE: Honda recognizes their transmission problems & issued an "update" to the transmission software. It didn't fix the problem. It did help a little, but the "hesitate or go" issue from a stop is still there. This is BAD

Not for the disabled
The middle doors wont shut properly when I pick up my grandchildren at school I open the middle doors for them to get in which they do, but when I push the close button the door starts to close them opens right back up and I have to get out of my honda odyssey get back in my wheelchair (suppose to be disabled friendly) race around to the other side put my hand on the door handle and help the honda close the middle door or it simply wont close. I have had it back to the dealer 3 times and they tell me there is no adjustment for this and that they don't no how to fix the problem and that if they mess with it they might make it worse. And the lane assist is dangerous please don' trust it, It is all over the place. But you pay for a functioning lane assist no discount here. It is 01/30/ 2020 and I had to get rid of the troublesome Honda lost a lot of money owning this Honda odyssey new for such a short time had to trade it in on a Toyota Sienna which is a much better and reliable van the doors will open and close without a hitch. Very much needed if you can't open them myself being disabled. I lost so much money and at times was put into danger due to the doors refused to close, And the entertainment system would sometimes not work, The computer sometimes lose power and you would have to pull over and turn the Van off and back on so it would reset itself. very dangerous on the freeway in L.A. I will never own a Honda again. I went looking for a new car for my wife and refused to even look at a honda they cannot be trusted and the honda dealers don't know how to repair what is wrong with them I lost 5000.00 dollars buying my last honda I cannot afford to let that happen again.
