Beware of Civics at or near 90k-100k miles
06-09 honda civics have a known manufactoring defect in the engine block. They mostly fail at the 90k mark a person driving 8k miles a year may not encounter this until the 12th year of ownership. The repair for this known defect is 2500-4500 depending on the dealer. Honda knows about the defect which is why the extended coverage to 10 years. But for owners who are just hitting this 90k-100k thresh hold we are out of luck and need to fork out almost half of a used car. I have loved and pampered my honda for the past 10 years. I don't think it is a question of if it will fail but when.

I'm 100% confident that the Civic is one of the finest cars on the market. The car's gas mileage is astounding. The civic is engineered to provide exceptional gas mileage as per the EPA ratings. I've read some negative postings about the Civic's gas mileage. However, I urge you to take into account that these ratings may be flawed. Superior gas mileage is not only dependent on a car's mechnical structure, but it is also dependent on it's driver. Quick acceleration, driving over 60 mph, and constant breaking, for example, will significantly lower your gas mileage. So if someone is quick to say that the Civic's gas mileage isn't great, I would question their driving skills.
eleven months of civic's
The 2006 civic hybrid has exceeded all my expectations. I average between 46 and 51 mpg. I took the car on a 2500 mile trip to the west coast from Denver and was surprised that it was more comfortable than I thought. I started the trip around 69 mph and soon was cruising at 75 plus mph on the interstates. My worst mileage was from san diego to green river Utah ( all uphill) mileage was about 37 mpg for that segment. The gas engine does really rev up climbing grades in cruise control, but it goes along fine. Probably if you had 4 people on board, you would some more horsepower (I was alone) For what it is , I give it a high rating and like its look much more than the prius.
Not my dream car- updated from 8/06
My 1st Honda-after 7mo, I like even less. Car struggles to change gears-told not fixable-electronic transmission. Learn to live with it. RPM's get stuck too high. If driving on bumpy road-car feels like it is thrown sideways out of control-especially on highway over 55 mph,-scary. If past miles the maint.minder scheduled oil change, each time car's started it blinks with the # of miles you're in arrears until you reset it until oil's changed.(Maint. light on dash is enough).Driver's window now squeaks with window up/down.Brakes squeal with stop in rain.Car rattles like a car I drove over 90,000 mi.For all the Honda hype, I'm sorry I traded in my old car. What did people drive b4 rating this car a 10?
