Known Engine Problems

I purchased a 2014 terrain SLT-1 for far over book value from a dealer in 2021 because you know “used car shortage”. It has used oil like crazy. It’s not leaking. And it doesn’t smell like it’s burning oil. But, it’s draining it. I put 6 - SIX quarts of oil in and I was still 2000 miles from an oil change. I cannot get a dealership to even look into the issue probably because they KNOW there’s issues with the engine. If I trade it in, I am completely upside down on it and will get the lowest trade in value because of mechanical issues. I’m screwed either way. I’m a single mom that makes less than $25,000 a year and I’m so angry the engine issues were never fixed in these vehicles and that dealerships screw people like this. I will never buy another gmc/chevy again and I caution anyone looking at them to reconsider!

2nd Terrain, buying a 3rd one now

This is our second Terrain (2011 & 2014). They have been the most trouble free vehicles that we've ever owned. Not even considering any other vehicle now that we are replacing the 2011 with a 2018.

Freezing in rear seat

I really love the style of this vehicle. As I describe it as a boxy look. Buy being boxy it gives you more head room in the cargo area when putting in and taking out cargo. I also like the split seat in the back. Very convenient when hauling long items. Interior is very nice. Love the leather interior with heated seats. There are 3 things I really dislike about the Terrain. #1) The heating system is not what it should be. I have to set the heat between 76 & 80 and having to keep switching the settings back and forth from windshield to feet. Does not make for safe driving, also makes it hard to listen to the radio at a normal level or have a conversation. There is no heat to back seat area, other then the heat from the front. Believe me this is not sufficient to keep the rear windows from fogging up all the time & roasting those sitting in front. #2) is the lack of adjusting the passenger's seat up and down. My husband has a very difficult time getting in and out that side as the seat is set to high. #3) is the gas mileage. It's a four cylinder with eco. I get 2 more miles per gallon then I did with my previous car which was a v6. It's sluggish on highway when trying tp pass other vehicles.

GMC Terrain SLE-2

Very comfortable ride & seating. Quiet ride. Great sounding radio & phone connections when needed. Only have 5,000 miles on the car. Four cylinder engine is somewhat anemic, but adequate for my type of driving. My other car is a Jaguar XK, thus statisfying my need for speed.

Shop around for the best price. Using Edmunds helped us out a lot on the new car price and the trade in value of our trade in.

handles great ! Use it just around town mostly have not traveled into city or highway yet,but no worries there feels and drives like a brand new car would for being 4 years old. Would definitely recommend this vehicle to put on your list to test drive. Very roomy and comfortable. Love that the seat adjusts for height since i'm a little on the short side and like to see the entire front end of car.

For having a 4 cylinder engine, I have adequate power where I can pull my utility trailer loaded with a load of dirt or gravel with little laboring of power. I get anywhere’s from the low to mid 20’s around town driving all the way to the upper 30’s mpg on the highway driving.

Love my Terrain it's bodystyle makes and say's that you've arrived it's gonna be a classic style that is incomparible and it's never gonna get or be better than this for this is a style that you just can't take your eyes off of even when it's sitting in your Driveway your imagination can't seem to fathom the reality of you owning a SUV of this magnitude . love my GMC....

Terrain SLE-2 still going strong

I am the second owner of this CPO vehicle, 11k on the odometer when purchased, now 102K, no problems other than normal maintenance. Have changed the tires to Continental Standard touring tires, run the tire pressure at 37, upgraded the mass air sensor and have a free flow cat back muffler system, get 22-24 mpg in the city and have regularly achieved in excess of 35+ on the highway.. my highest avg has been over 40+ mpg. Regular oil changes of synthetic oil 0-20 allows 5K between changes. I am hoping to get 200K out of it.. would recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable car that seats 5 easily. Vehicle has now crossed 108K.. stilll runs great, finally replaced struts and shocks. Recently replaced a cannister vapor purge valve ($36.00) and have returned to using 0530W as the lighter weight oil was about a pint low at the end of each 5K oil change. No major issues, car is still tight with no rattles or squeaks.. wind noise is about the same as when I bought it at 11K.

RUST and exhaust

Dohler, 08/19/2021

I have had issues with rust spots everywhere! The back metal gmc and under window had to be replaced and repainted with in one year. My whole exhaust system went to crap and the dealership wanted 4000 just for parts to replace the entire thing because of where rusted hole was located. I had it cut and welded, dealership said better to go with original pieces it would last longer, my husband told them obviously not considering it was 6 years old at the time. Warranty even though it was under 100k miles was void for both since it happened at less than one month after. I see ALOT of terrains with rust around same spots. Fyi, its not covered until it goes completely through. Sucks in snow also unless theres weight in back. I paid it off early so i could spend more on fixing it, oh and heres the kicker. My exhaust sounds like crap again. Yay.
