You can't beat a good Ford truck
This is my second Ranger, and nothing beats a good Ford truck. The 3.0 V6 is no powerhouse, but it has ample power to get the job done. I had a custom flowmaster dual exhaust installed on her and she sounds AWESOME. Comfort level and room beats the Toyota and Chevy by a huge margin. Sure both of them trucks are nice, but no where near the level of a Ford. I average 18 MPG and have had NO PROBLEMS to date...7,100 miles in four months of ownership!
You should look again at a Ford Ranger
My 2002 Ford Ranger (2.3 L, I-4, Supercab) has been 100% reliable. The only repairs that I have had to perform is the normal, routine maintenance. I have never had a more reliable vehicle. I am especially happy with the gas mileage (28 mpg on average). I purchased my Ford Ranger new after driving all the competitive small trucks. My Ford Ranger is definitely a no frills truck, but I am happy with the quality of it. I would highly recommend the Ford Ranger for being a responsible purchase, and I feel I got the most for my money when I bought it. I have read all the trade magazine reports how Ford Rangers are out-of-date and obsolete, but my truck has been 100% reliable. No complaints.

2002 Ranger Edge 4x4 4 door
Fun to drive, great power, gets lots of comments on how cool it looks. no problems as of yet. This is my 3rd Ranger. Its a keeper
Great Truck
I have owned the 4WD Edge for over a year. Love the body styling and haul a 2500 lb. boat with no problems. It is nice on slippery ramps to never worry about pulling the boat out of the water. I know the boat weight is way under the capability of the truck but it my previous truck was very much under powered. Not with this truck.
LOUD wind noise
I had a '94 4.0 reg. cab with 170,000. Excellent truck. I traded it in for a 2002 extended cab 4.0. The driver seat is breaking down. I'll need to take it in for them to build it back. The worst is that is is loud on the road over 55 mph. I get a bad wind noise between the doors. The truck seems "thin" because when I'm on the highway, the ground noise picks up. I really don't like the noise level. I wonder if some it is cause of th Firestone tires.
