2014 Ford Focus Electric 4dr Hatchback (electric DD)

Purchased the car for under 30k and was a great value. Cost for my 36 mile commute is now 0.50 instead of 3.50 (or the cost of a gallon at the time). It has had a few recalls but when those fixes were applied, no issues and nothing really to maintain. No oil changes or fluids/belts/chains/etc. I love the fact that I never go to gas stations, just plug in nightly like my cellphone and ready to go in a couple of hours (with the 220v wall charger). We have a second car for trips, but I think renting a car for the few long trips of the year would be fine if we didn't have a second vehicle. Overall, I am sold on electric and am likely to stick with all electric for my commute/around town car!

Update: June 3023 another year on the Focus...265,000 miles. Still runs great and as I retired this year it is no longer doing daily driver duty to work, it is relegated to running errands and vacation. Still looks good runs well, paint still shiny...motor flawless. Only issue really is that dang Ford Focus Transmission...she still shudders a bit at start off. But it still owes me a chance to see 300K miles before i get rid of it. Been a good car and dependable. So, its now December 2022, the car is now 8.5 years old, and has 246 thousand Miles and its still running strong. Regular/required maintenance. Still runs like a top. Don't know what else to say : Happy with the car. Like the ride, Enjoy owning the car, it's still super reliable. I love it still, and I DO every maintenance as required. My goal with this car is to keep it until 300,000. Still going strong. Drive the beltway everyday and get 40 mpg, why would I get rid of it...Stay Tuned

2014 Ford Focus SE 4dr Hatchback (2.0L 4cyl 5M)

Have 68,000 miles now. I've owned a number of new cars from Toyota, Hyundai, Nissan, and Scion for the past decade, and this is by far my favorite car. It is also the highest quality. Even after all these miles, there is barely a single squeak or rattle going over bumps. Far more solid than any Toyota I've owned. I feel like I stole this car from Ford, it was such a good value. I get 35 mpg combined which is above EPA. Mine is a manual SE w/ sport package. Highly recommend this combo if you're concerned about reliability of SYNC and the auto transmission. No issues whatsoever. Not even a single recall. I didn't mind the auto, but heard about technical issues, so I just avoided. The 5 speed manual is a good transmission. Nice light clutch feel and smooth, authoritative shifter. The sport package upgrades to gray painted wheels, 4 wheel disc brakes (a huge upgrade in my opinion), leather steering wheel and shifter knob, and nice firm seats. I like the seats, but might be too firm for some. The car feels lightweight but incredibly solid and well built. Quiet and smooth on the freeway. Quieter than cars costing many times as much. I didn't fully appreciate this at first, but it's a huge benefit. It's too bad so many people are having trouble with their auto transmissions. The manual version is a great car. Resale value is terrible, but I plan on keeping this forever so I don't care!

I've owned import cars for years and was planning on buying a Mazda3 but just couldn't pass up the price on the Focus. After incentives it was $6,000 below a comparable 3. I'm glad I did. I've had it for 3.5 years and 90,000 miles and I love it! It's comfortable, quiet, efficient, stylish, and well built. It feels light but solid at the same time. Great suspension allows for a perfect ride/handling balance. I enjoy getting into it every day. I opted for the manual transmission SE with sport package. Glad I did because I rented a Titanium with auto trans and hated it. Like two different cars. It's true: The auto has issues. And the MyFord Touch was annoying. If you look at Consumer Reports poor reliability ratings, it's all from the auto trans and MyFord Touch. Simple is better here. I've never had a single issue with it. It feels just as solid as the day I drove it off the lot!
