Good Car

I've had my car for 7 years bought new, longest lasting car I've owned. Being a home owner I have the same demands for maintenance, so I bought a 5x8 enclosed trailer put a hitch on the focus. I've pulled 50 sheets of drywall, lumber, ATV up north hunting, Ice fishing, car handles it just fine. Without the trailer I've drive through 4 inches of fresh snow fall, on federal land. My brother owned one, a guy who was blinded by the evening sun pulled out in front him, he hit him at 60, and walked away! The only reason I'm writing this review is because I'm looking at buying a newer model, but still keeping the 08' and putting snow tires on it

bought my 2008 ford focus used , replaced a 200 ZX3 that was written off by insurance company . while its not a sports car it does very well in both city and highway driving . over all the car is very comfortable and quiet . the sync system is relatively easy to use but does have some weird things about it , when i use iPod connection and drive to destination and turn off car , upon restarting the sync does not recognize iPod and have to scroll through menu to get it back . sometimes refuses to reconnect . i wish there was a trunk release button in the cabin other than using just the key and the remote fob . but other than that very pleased with it .

Reliable, functional, body styling not bad. Some plastic pieces have become brittle / broken over the years, but car seems like it will run forever w/out expensive upkeep.

220 thousand miles and my car is still running great. Great fuel economy. I've kept up with the maintenance and have had no problem. Have recently started having problems with the ignition switch. Sometimes have to jiggle key to start it.

I wrote a review 20AUG2008, I am writing part two today. I am still very thrilled with the decision I made to purchase my brand new 2008 Ford Focus S. I do wish at the time I was not in desperate need to get out of my Land Rover, because I would have placed more time and attention into the details of an S versus the other upgraded models. I have not had any major deficiencies. I have only had to change tires and purchase new battery. I am at approx. 56k miles now and my Focus has never failed me. I have been itching to purchase another SUV; however, I read reviews and see how much it cost to fuel it I immediately get settled back into my Focus.

Noisy on road irregularities. Fuel economy is less than promised. Handles badly in wind. Handling is not good in general.

2008 Ford Focus SE - Nightmare Car!

Bought this heap of junk new. Transmission problems started in February. I have 28,000 miles and it won't stay aligned, eats tires, brakes and rotors. Under warranty, but dealer doesn't want to fix it. Dealer replaced it with a worn-out one from a wreck. Now it's having transmission problems again. Wanted to take it on a trip this morning, wrench light came on and car hesitated and shifted really hard into gear. We're getting another car and saying forget this one. Worst car I've ever owned. Never again!

I purchased this car as my first vehicle, i had worked odd and end jobs for several years leading up to be 16 and i was finally ready to purchase a car. The focus really caught my attention simply because i had never seen another like it before. I purchased the car used with 115k miles for 4k, this was in 2013. it is now 2017 and I am currently waiting to trade this thing in. the first few months with it were fine, and then little things started to happen, weather it was a rattle here, or an odd vibration there, i never thought anything of it because i had the car serviced every 3k miles. the first major problem i had out of the car was the failure of the ignition switch. this happened at approximately 125k miles, about 1 year after owning the car. the ignition switch malfunctioned and the key could not be used to start the car. upon taking this car to the dealership, i was informed that it would cost 300$ for parts plus labor, and i would be without my car for 2-3 weeks. i agreed and let ford keep my car and went to pick it up 2 weeks later to find that the problem had not been resolved. after addressing this my money was refunded and the issue had not been fixed, i replaced the ignition switch and still didn't fix my problem. i know start the car with a screwdriver. another issue that i have with my focus is that the door handles have broken 2 times on each side, so instead of fixing it for a 3rd time i use a piece of string to open my door from the outside. this is the worst car i have ever came in contact with, and it is getting traded in soon! my mother says thats she's scared for me to drive it for long distances bc she thinks that is is going to leave me stranded. I'm a junior in college and can honestly say that this is the most embarrassing and unreliable car I've ever seen.

Anyone who gives 5 stars on this one is not real. This is not the leader in any category. Mileage is bad for this size.Transmission has a bad history tho I've had no problems in in 12 years but my mileage is only 63k.Axxelleration is poor, but that being said the only thing I've had to replace is a known ignition switch issue to which there is a free fix if you dont mind learning how to disassemble it, see YouTube video. So all in all I needed something inexpensive and this worked and still going so the ford gamble paid off..

Basic 08 Focus S

Purchased with 950 miles 8/08 2yr additional extended warranty. 51K 10/12. Very basic model, no options this car. Regularly record 39-40 mpg highway comparing gas gallons at fillup and trip odometer. Acceleration is decent for 2.0 L normally aspirated engine. My vehicle is not listed on the 2 recalls on 08 Focus. Change oil every 3 months at dealer with my oil/filter. No problems to date except upper radiator hose leak at 90 degree plastic elbow. Changed myself due to expense quoted by dealer. I have been in 2 front-end accidents. NOTE: Body repair shop overtightened battery cable terminal. This wore the tin off the terminal, exposing it to rust. Had to replace battery early. Found surface rust on interior supporting panels for instrument panels etc. I do not live in salt prone area like coastal or salted roads due to frequent ice/snow. Manual (5 speed) transmission not mentioned in schedule maintenance book nor online manual for oil change. IT IS MENTIONED for the 2009 Focus at 150K miles. @105K miles at this point of the review now: 3rd set of tires at this point. 105K mileage point is/was major Ford scheduled maintenance point. Nothing unusual found, nothing broken or found needed replacement. As a precaution, I had them change the oil in the manual transmission. This is not scheduled in my schedule maintenance book, and not with Ford either for this year car. Injectors were cleaned/flushed. Mileage at this point is about 36 mpg highway. Could be catalytic converter acting up considering mileage. @112K miles scheduled maintenance check okay. Ford provided air compressor/emergency flat fix device found unusable. Reason was the wiring from 12V connector to it had paired wiring that dried to the point of falling off. This caused numerous electrical shorts and opened the fuse for the Focus 12V power connector inside the car. Aftermarket unit now used for tire inflation. @120K miles scheduled maintenance okay. Rear bumper cover around tailpipe blackened for at least 5K miles. Local Ford Dealer refused to attempt obvious running rich as no check engine light etc. Mileage down about 15%, performance degraded as well. Very dissatisfied with mechanics unable to attempt repairs without aid of onboard computer codes. These are computer techs, not mechanics. ***Last review. Focus was rear-ended by truck due to high school student texting and rear-ending that same truck. Damage was significant and well beyond dollar value of the Focus.***
