Used 2014 Ford Fiesta Hatchback Consumer Reviews
1.0 L Ecoboost worst engine design ever
I originally bought this car in a 5 sp manual with 45k with few non major problems. For one, the actuators in the car are very cheap and had to replace the fan actuator and ac vent actuators. The transmission synchros were under designed for the cars improved torque up to 148 ft lb. The main problem with car is the awful aluminum head with cast iron block design which causes uneven warping. This is especially dumb with a highly stressed small turbo engine leading to a blown head gasket. Now the car is basically totalled and I only put 8 k miles on it.

Fantastic Car - Until the Front Gets Hit
Moral of the story - It only takes a bit of force in the front end of this car to total it, but it is a fantastic car before that! Just look at the crash test scores for the 2015 compared to the 2014 (didn't require the more in depth tests) on cars.com: "Front, Restraints and dummy kinematics - Poor," "Front, Structure and safety cage - Marginal," "Front, Overall evaluation - Marginal." If that doesn't scare you, then best of luck to you and may you never get in an accident because once you do your car is as good as totaled! Ford should focus on durability because the rest of what they did with this car was great. What I loved about my fiesta: Great handling, Smooth acceleration, Little road noise, Fantastic suspension, Nice entertainment system, Good vehicle feedback (tire sensors etc.), Amazing fuel economy (33-37 year round), and I am very sad to see the car go over such a minor incident! If you love yours be super careful with it!

Mean green machine ROCKS
SECOND UPDATE... Owned well over 2 years now. ZERO hiccups. Pushing 50K miles. Regular maintenance only. Husband still loves it! So easy to find in the parking lot in the lime green color, and those heated leather seats sure were nice all winter! 😄 UPDATE... Owned the car for 10 months now. Husband uses it as daily driver. He's over 6' tall and has no issues with comfort. Lots of leg room up front. Car now has 34K on it and we may need tires for upcoming inspection in November, but so far, so good! We bought ours used at a Mercedes dealer, lol, with 25k on it. Looks and drives brand new. The Titanium model comes with absolutely everything you can imagine including heated seats (LOVE this in PA), and backup camera. The navigation system is spot on and Ford Sync finally got their act together. Recognizes commands like a charm. Opt for the 5 speed manual, and you'll have no worries about Ford's crazy "automatic/manual" shift transmission problems. We get higher than the advertised mileage and love all the little extras, generally reserved for a luxury car. My HUSBAND loves the crazy lime green as much as I do!

Wow I have been impressed with this little car
After having had a Jaguar XF, Mercedes C-Class, Mercedes E-Class, BMW 3 series and Pontiac G8...I finally came to a point in my life where I wanted to stop blowing money on heavily depreciating cars that get crappy gas mileage and get something economical and practical. I test drove this little Fiesta Hatch against some other economy cars and this one was way more fun to drive, it's like driving around a little go kart. Not very many creature comforts, mine doesn't even have cruise control, but when I calculate out my MPG and I am getting around 37-39 mpg a tank in COMBINED driving...it makes up for it. Cramped rear seats but I rarely use those. Mine had a problem where it had clunky/sputtering shifting in 2nd gear sometimes on acceleration, and even though I bought my car used since it had under 50k miles and was within its warranty period the dealer replaced the clutch free. Ever since it's been driving like a dream. The fact that I got 39 mpg out of an entire tank of combined driving blows my mind. Very happy with this little car. Only paid $4,500 for it and it had a clean title and only 43k miles when I bought it...what a purchase so far. Not much room left to depreciate and my insurance is only $56 a month. Only spending about $50 a month on gas.

Poorly Assembled and poor quality - JUNK!
As of 2020,These models are so awful, they discontinued them. Tramission, They know it's bad. The front has a fully independent suspension, but rear has only a cheap beam in the back. And the rear bottoms out on bumps. Engine has Zero torque from A standstill when flooring the accelerator. The gas economy is not 29/39. My trip computer at 15,841 miles, says only 17mpg city and 26 on the highway - I challenge Ford to come and look. The only way this car could have ever gotten the epa estimated 29/39 is, in my opinion, with an anorexic, midget, driver and the only thing in the rest of the car including the trunk was a toothpick. lol. The transmission was rebuilt after only 12,000 miles. The grinding noise continues which is the result of duel clutches. And then rebuilt again at 30,000 miles. The trunk had water leaks causing damage to the trunk and stinking up the interior of the car and causing mold and mildew damage. It took months to correct it because the dealer could not find the problem, but eventually they did. The car was assemble in Mexico, not Michigan like most other fords. The Mexican people are great, wonderful, people, but in my experience, the assembly plant in Michigan does a much better job. They assembled it's cousin, the Ford Focus, which shares many of the same parts, as for example, the same defective 6 speed, duel clutch, transmission. Yet although the Focus still has problems, it's no where near what this lemon has. update: at 36,000 miles, the gas economy is still poor for a subcompact this size and Ford does not know why. My theory is because they over estimated the fuel economy. Even the Ford Focus, (I know because, my family member has one), the fuel economy was way overestimated and she does not get anywhere near the mileage told. But, even that said, it is a larger compact and she gets better mileage than our subcompact fiesta, and she has a larger engine. Visibility is poor. The back seat has almost no leg room for it's passengers - it has, but very cramped. For a car built like this, you would think, high fuel economy - guess again. The outside convex mirrors designed to help you see cars in the blind spot works somewhat, but then causes a misperception of how close the curb is when you try to park the car. Continued problems with engine warning light. But nothing is wrong. The car is warning us we are on an ice slope in the summer with 90 degree weather. Sometimes does not start properly. It's really scary. Would never buy one of these again and shame on Ford for not recalling the whole batch and just remodeling the whole line, especially throwing out this horrific defective transmission and replacing it with a real one that works. Double shame on them for not AT LEAST RECALLING and replacing this defective transmission with one like in the Ford Fusion which runs perfectly. Given a choice of buying these three cars in the future, (if i would even consider a Ford again), I would easily chose a base Fusion over these other two cars. It's slightly bigger, but more reliable. And yes, the gas economy is going to be a little less, but less headaches, better trip, and less repairs. If you really want to buy this the Fiesta or the Focus, I strongly recommend that you take out a 7 year extended warranty to prevent yourself from going broke on the repairs after the basic warranty expires. If you have to buy a Fiesta, look at the hatchback. For some reason it looks sturdier than the other models. ********** As of 2018 there is a class action lawsuit for both the Ford Fiesta and the Ford Focus - google for more info. I strongly suggest that you do not buy these cars for model years, especially 2013-2018 and even beyond - stay away! Ford never recalled them to change the defective parts. Ford is scrapping all Ford Focus production as of 2018 because the car shares a lot of the same defective parts (especially the transmission) as the Ford Focus. They are redesigning the focus into a crossover, skipping production in 2019 and that car will be available in 2020. They installed a newly designed 8 speed transmission (really? the newly designed transmission in the focus and fiesta failed for all these years and they never recalled or replaced it). You think they would give it the transmission in the fusion which has proved to be basically trouble free - dah!!!! And the car will be assembled in where? Detroit? Germany? Spain? Korea? nope - China. The Chinese are known for a lot of great things but car assembly is not one of them. I suggest you stay away from this car also until Ford gets their act together and once again proves to us that their quality went up. If you look at consumer reports april 2018 edition, or any edition after, you can see the repair history is poor for both the focus and the fiesta and they also do not recommend you buy these cars. Get it in the library or go online and read their report based on hundreds of thousands of consumer surveys.
