My Dream Truck

I waited years to buy my dream truck. The Ford F250 Diesel Super Duty Crew Cab. The last truck I would ever need to purchase. I just brought my truck in to the dealer, water pressure in the coolant reservoir. Service people with out looking under the hood told me what was wrong. The oil cooler and EGR cooler would need to be replaced. If not caught in time serious engine damage, head gaskets and worse $5,000 and worse. To all out there with a 6.0 diesel or thinking of buying one, consider the oil cooler a maintenance item at 50,000 miles. Have it replaced. From what I have read while learning whats wrong with my truck this is the major cause of problems on this engine. Pass it on

As of Dec 2011, I have owned this truck for over six years. It was bought new and I haven't experienced any problems during this ownership. The truck is used to pull a 24ft boat, large horse/cattle trailer, and utility trailer. Excellent interior space for front and rear passengers, more than ample pulling power, smooth transmission shifting, dashboard layout is exceptional, and multiple positions for rear seat storage/hauling/seating. As some posts mentioned gas mileage - a heavy duty truck was designed for pulling and hauling which makes gas mileage secondary. My next truck will definitely be an F-250 Lariat.

Diesel Disaster 6.0 Turbo

Ford issued a recall for diesel emissions in late 2005, and blamed Ca Air Res Board for recall. NOT TRUE! Ford issued internal recall under state statute violation, and then recalibrated all 6.0 diesels. Performance dropped, turbos started blowing, mileage in the tank, continued issues with the EGR systems and oil leaks. THESE TRUCKS ARE TERRIBLE. I paid premium money for this truck, and am now in lemon law process and Ford is fighting me back and say nothing is wrong, but at the same time gave me 200K warranty on engine.. Yeah right. Piece of crap engine and NOT what I paid for and with this recall on problems they blame on CARB, as indicated by dealers, that is a flat out lie! Stay away!

6.0 Liter Diesel Needs Work

I love my truck. It fits me - I'm 6' 6" and I can wear a hat in the cab. The machine drives well, is easy to maneuver and park. This is my fourth F250 diesel - all my others were the 7.3L engine. My experience with the 6.0L diesel is that it underperforms the 7.3L both in power and economy. I was used to 14.5-15.5 mpg city and 18-20 mpg highway with the 7.3L. The best I've gotten with the 6.0L is 13.0 city and 15.0 highway. The 6.0L does not accelerate as well as the 7.3L did. I'm disappointed, especially as the price of diesel has escalated out of sight. There is a recall on the ECM and I hope that resolves the performance/economy problem.

Great mileage for a large heavy truck

I have the 6.0 Diesel; the '05 ride is totally different from '04. It's like my brother's GMC or my passenger car . On the highway I get 20 miles per gallon and 13 to 16 in city depending on my foot. I love the power. They've taken about 10 ft off the turn radius making it much easier to park, however it is a big truck and it's a dream to drive on the highway and freeway -- you see everything.

Very comfortable and a fine looking truck whose handling is amazing for its size and weight. However with less then 65K miles the turbo has failed, the high pressure oil pump has failed, and the EGR cooler has leaked. The oil is always changed at 5000 miles (a must for this truck) and while the warranty has covered the repairs the trips to the dealer are tiresome

I've had my diesel 4x4 truck for almost a year and thus far has given me perfect service...no problems whatsoever. I often pull my enclosed car trailer (about 7500 lbs.) effortlessly. I get about 14 mpg around town, 18-19 mpg on the open road doing 80 mph and around 12 mpg when towing 65-70 mph. I have the deluxe King Ranch model and is very comfortable. I regularly get compliments about the truck when getting fuel. The only thing that I would change would be not having the captain seats in the rear, but a bench seat for the sake of carrying groceries and packages inside. I also like the availability of getting 16", 18", or 20" wheels, unlike GMC/GM were only 16" wheels are offered.

Ford F 250 Crew Cab Diesel

I purchased this F 250 Diesel in early December of 2004. I had read of the changes for 2005 a couple of years ago and decided to wait for the 2005 model. I am glad I did. Ford made significant improvements over 2004. The ride is significantly improved thanks to the coil springs up front rather than the old leaf springs. Even for a diesel this vehicle is very quiet inside with no rattles. The drivetrain is excellent with very smooth shifts. The 5 speed Torq Shift transmission is highly recommended. I find the seats to be comfortable and the rear seat is much more roomy than my second choice, the Dodge Ram Crew. The transmission and ride in the F 250 are better than the Dodge as well.

I can say, first off, that I am satisfied with my truck for the most part. However, there are a lot of expensive parts, mainly the transmission, which sells new for around $7,000. I drove this truck for a little over a year and didn't have any trouble with it at all and when I finally did - it has been a huge ordeal since. The problem is that there doesn't seem to be anyone that has any knowledge of that style tranny. The main problem is that there are way too many electronic components, which makes it impossible for me to even work on without fear of making a small problem a huge catastrophe. Whatever happened to simplicity?

The XLT Sport package is nice, but lacks the refinement that I was used in the F-150 Lariat. Also, the new 5.4L gas engine should not be used in this truck regardless of what the specs say. Based on the truck's weight and various observations, the V10 gas or Power Stroke diesel is the way to go. Horsepower is O.K., but something this heavy needs more torque. Overall, this is still a very nice truck. It rides pretty well and is capable of limited heavy duty requirements. Too bad it was not ordered with the V10!

Bought the truck new...shortly thereafter, when I would hit a bump at speed, the truck would lose steering, lose brakes, shake uncontrollably. make a sound like the end of the world. I took it in to be fixed. They claimed it was repaired 4 or 5 times!! Seriously dangerous stuff. I was bound to kill myself or someone else or whomever was driving it: my wife, mother, father-in-law. I spoke with Ford and got their TSBs...happens in a A LOT of the F250s(gas)! I asked to swap the truck out. No dice; they told me to Lemon Law it (Florida). I did...and won. Ford appealed the decision. This was about a year ago. We go trial (again) in January. When I win that case, Ford will appeal again

I traded in a Cadillac STS for this truck. This is a different world. I look forward to getting up in the morning to drive this big truck. The speed bumps in my neighborhood are no longer huge obstacles for me to navigate. I've traded in some luxury and in return I got serious power. If John Wayne were alive, this is what he would drive.

I've driven this truck back and forth in Texas and enjoy every mile of it. For a 10k lb truck, she drives like a dream. I test drove the Dodge and Chevy, but neither one offered the room or options that I got with my Ford. Haven't chipped it yet, but I am still getting 15-18 in city and 25 plus on the highway, as long as you stay out of the turbo and realize what you are driving and just kick back.

I have only had this truck for a month and have put on 3000 miles. It is extreme yellow with the Amarillo black interior. 4X4 diesel. I get 17 + mph average. It is the nicest vehicle with plenty of room. The 4 door is really great. I drove truck over the road for 35 years and figured I deserved a new pick up. I traded an '03 F-150 which was ok but if you want a brute force truck this is it. I LOVE IT! Guess I over did this write up huh!

I upgraded to from a '04 2wd F-250 to my '05 4wd. What a difference in ride and turning radius night and day. The 6.0 International Powerstroke is a pleasure to drive. I can get 21 highway and 16 city. I seldom go anywhere that someone doesn't comment on what a good looking truck it is. I do not really haul anything or use it as a work truck, inside job, except for normal homeowner or occasional fire wood work but I have always wanted a 4wd diesel 4 door truck and this one will satisfy that desire for a long time.

I found this vehicle excellent on the highway, comfort and acceleration is very good. I also found the truck to handle very nicely in town. Parking in a lot is a little difficult, but to be expected for a big truck. I have heard that Ford has a problem with this engine but this was not my experience. I am somewhat skeptical of buying another one because of the "lemon" factor. BUT mine has been very good. I have driven the new 2007 King Ranch version like mine, very little difference.

Almost bought a 2004 F 250 in May. Waited for the 2005 due to the changes that were to be made. I had ordered my truck at the end of July. A week before my truck arrived at the dealership, I had test drove one to see how I would like it. The 2005 model is in a class of it's own. Like Day and Night from any former F-250 model before. The new front suspension is much better than before. The truck turns much tighter and rides much smoother than earlier models. I was amazed at the 6 liter diesel as to how much power and snap it had compared to a 7.3 liter diesel I had in my 1999 Ford F-250. If you test a 2004 and a 2005, you will notice the improvements to the

I purchased my new F-250 with a Turbo-Diesel around April 2004. I started having trouble after about 6,000 miles. The engine would just shut down to an idle. You could not give it any fuel by the foot pedal. I had it in the shop approximately six times from 6,000 miles to 11,000 miles. It became very dangerous and unreliable. It quit on my wife while crossing a railroad crossing. The dealership said after many times at their shop that the problem was a connection and they supposedly replaced the wiring loom for the accelerator. I finally became so disgusted that I traded it off for a Chevrolet Diesel. I enjoy it very much. I have heard a few others with the same problem I had. Ford needs to fix this.

After being stranded by 3 Chevys in a row I decided to try Ford. You will never be stuck or stranded with your horse trailer again! I have gone into cornfields with a 6 horse trailer and you put this baby in 4WD and no problem. Hills are a breeze when hauling horses and I'm in the Ozarks. It comes off the dealer lot READY TO PULL! Electrical is already set up. Interior is so luxurious that I hate to get in it in muddy boots. ROOMY! When not hitched to a trailer this truck is amazing to drive. This truck is FAST off the line and I say this as a 2002 Corvette owner. So much power make sure you have ballast in back when it snows. No problem towing in bad weather. A real beast of a truck.

I have owned appx. 8 full size trucks since I began driving and by far this is the best riding, handling and certainly PARKING full size vehichle I've ever owned. To date I only have a couple thousand miles on the truck but I'm already impressed with the increased fuel mileage. This truck is equipped with a five speed automatic transmission and I'm currently averaging 16-17 miles per gallon around town I'm anxious to see how well it will do on a long trip. I've also been impressed with horsepower and tourque it feels far superior to the G.M "Duramax" diesel the ride is also much smoother. Ford has hit a homerun as far as I'm concerned with the new 2005 "Superduty"

After owning a Silverado Ex-cab for 6 years I can't imagine why we didn't buy this sooner. The F-250 Crew Cab diesel is so much fun to drive, has a huge interior space for the kids and all of our stuff, and it pulls our 27 foot camping trailer like it isn't even there! Ford outdid themselves on this beautiful truck. My Lincoln Towncar sits in the garage now that we have the F-250. The kids love to ride to school in it, and they ask me to pick them up after school in the truck because they can hear me coming around the corner. My husband flips up the rear seat and uses the back for extra cargo space, especially when it is raining. Our whole family loves this truck.

This has to be the most powerful truck I have ever owned. Equipped with the Power Stroke Diesel this truck accelerates and handles better than most gas engines. While towing a 25ft travel trailer it is easy to forget the trailer is still back there. When cruising at 65MPH and the tow haul mode set the engine is running right in its max torque range at about 1950 RPMs, while still averaging better fuel milage than my gas F-150 ever did. Ford really got it right on this set up!

Good truck, 5.4 powerful enough. New 5 speed auto transmission was replaced at 5,000 miles. Is starting to have the same problem (slipping) after less than 1,000 miles. Dealer said some sort of ring broke. The Lariat has great comfort features. Power back sliding window, sunroof, seat heater. Fuel economy stinks. The trip computer says I've averaged 10.6 MPG.

My 6L diesel truck has about 36k on it now, and never had an unscheduled maintenance. None of my many Toyotas were this reliable. I have always gotten around 14 to 16mpg in town (hills and stop signs and long, long red lights in Meridian, MS). On the highway, I get over 23mpg if I am driving 55mph; as little as 18mpg if I am going 80 on a windy, rainy day, empty or loaded up and trailering. I have driven it in a hurricane (here, Katrina was all-day-long 45 to 55mph and the truck never felt unstable); my work can call me out at odd hours. It seems as fast as my '06 Corvette, and is fine for 6 snooty adults! Highly recommended!

These trucks were made useless. Had to declare bankruptcy in 2018 for returning a voluntary repossession FORD [non-permissible content removed]. Everyone knows they were garbage made Trucks so bad that they even rolled out a 1600 dollar engine stud upgrade cause the motors would fall apart.
