A reliable cement truck

Bought 2 years ago with 46,000 miles on the truck. Great reliability but the ride is punishing and gas consumption is alarming. I own a 2001 Chevy Tahoe with a big V8 that uses far less fuel and rides much smoother. The 4WD is tremendous in foul weather, and we can't complain about repairs, but what a brutal ride to all the gas stations!

I think that the 4wd was a comfort to own, although it was not needed very often. Great for shopping sprees.

I bought my Ford used in 2000, It has never broken down on me never had a major problem. Has been to California at least 10 times, I live in Albuquerque,NM. Besides minor maintance like oil and breaks this car has definitely paid for itself. It still drives daily, has no leaks and power still there like the day I drove it for the first time. 225,000 and counting

Junk that looks good

Two weeks after we bought the Explorer the transmission went out. The transmission man who replaced it said it was the worst transmission Ford ever made. Five months later the trans mission went out again and was replaced under warranty. The transmission just went out again. I'm going to haul it to the Junk yard. The door locks don't work, the seat is broken, the AC doesn't work, cruise control quit and it is running bad now. It isn't worth the trouble to fix it. I always took care of it and never ran it hard so it shouldn't have had these problems.

Transfer case problems normal?

As a rule I have enjoyed owmning my Explorer. The only real complaints I have are the rear bumper design, the fact that the back seems to be a dirt magnet, and the cargo inside slides all over the place even when I drive slow and careful. The rear bumper is attractive, however, it holds a "ton" of dirt just from ordinary driving, no dirt roads and it is difficult to clean out. I am encountering transfer case problems with it that are very expensive to repair and no one seems to want ot include them on the extended warranty plans. If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate them.
