ReviewThis is not a good SUV to drive on heavy snow
high ways. Specially 4x4. I spinned twice and hit on the edge of the highway safety guards. I was driving 30mph on a 70mph road. Please use 2 wheel drive on high ways when its really bad on roads.

im not trying to be rude here but the cause of you spinning out is due to you not knowing how to drive in inclement weather conditions. I have a 1996 ford explorer xlt 4wd with the 4.0. i have had the vehicle since December of 2006. I am the first and only owner. as of right now it has 326033 miles on it. the engine internal are all original one power steering pump 2 alternators and a couple of tensioner pulleys. and had the transmission rebuilt at 210k i can count on one hand the times it has been in 4wd. 4wd is designed to get you out of a tough spot like stuck in the mud ice snow ect.... You might of been going 30mph but you have to keep in mind that when you hit ice snow or hydroplane you NEVER touch the brake pedal or mash down the accelerator pedal. 90 percent of the time accident happen in inclement weather because people panic and hit the brake or gas. yes the explorers have light rear ends and do tend to drift time to time. I live in iowa the winters here are harsh. bottom line is you cant blame the vehicle for the accident. 98 percent of the time you are telling the vehicle what to do and it will only do what you are commanding it to do. accidents are only like maybe 10 percent mechanical failure freak of nature kind of thing. and the rest is driver error wither it be you or someone hitting you or running you off the road kind of thing. i am also a truck driver. I have a 2million mile record with out any accidents or tickets. drive smart and dont take any chances. and also dont blame a vehicle for an accident unless it was or is proven that something mechanically went wrong.Report it
