Trouble-Free in over 65K miles.
OK, so I had to replace the left front parking light bulb two weeks after we took delivery. Otherwise, the only times this car has been in the shop in its first 39K miles are the regular maintenance procedures (oil & filter changes, tire rotations, etc) done at the dealer's shop every 5K miles. Three weeks after delivery we had a 6- to 8-inch snowfall, with moderately heavy (wet) snow. I spent a couple hours driving on unsanded hills, through plowed snowbanks at driveways, around unplowed parking lots behind the business section, purposely putting this SUV into situations where getting stuck would be no surprise. The "Intelligent 4WD" performed perfectly, keeping me on the move with no loss of traction. My wife and I both drive this vehicle, and we both find the seating comfortable and the ride acceptably smooth. What it lacks in smoothness it more than makes up in handling and stability, excellent cornering, and quick responsiveness on the steering wheel and the accelerator. All-round fuel economy is 24.3 mpg; on a 2000-mile vacation trip just completed it was 27.8, with the air-conditioning operating the whole way. As a rule, we do not burn rubber on starts, but I have found no lack of power when I needed quick acceleration to merge with fast-moving traffic. The 6-speed transmission shifts smoothly, and the ecoboost turbo kicks in without the hesitation reported by some users. I often use the "S" position on the transmission selector lever to control downshifting on hills and on stop-sign approaches, to save the brakes, careful to not over-rev the engine. Both of us like the placement of the shift lever at the angled intersection of the center console and the instrument panel. At our last dealer maintenance service, the techs measured the tread in the tires, and told me all four tires show even wear, and have sufficient remaining tread to be street-legal for at least another 15K miles. There have been no interior rattles or squeaks in this car, or defects in form-fit-function. Road noise is sometimes an issue, but that depends on the type of road surface. I expected cross-wind gusts to compromise stability on the road, because of the higher profile vs. our previous sedans, but this has not proven to be an issue. One day shortly after we bought our Escape, a friend asked what I liked most about it. My instantaneous reply was " It's easy to get into and out of". (This is a big plus for folks in their 70's.) We have found the rear seat to be less comfortable than the front bucket seats, but acceptable at least for short trips. On most mornings I get heat from the dashboard ducts about half-way into the 2-mile trip to my coffee shop. On very cold (single-digit) mornings it takes most of that four-minute trip to get noticeable heat -- very acceptable. The rear cargo space is adequate for shopping trips for this two-person household. With the rear seats folded down on our recent vacation trip, the full cargo deck was more than sufficient to carry 3 large luggage bags, three smaller travel bags, a box for snacks and water bottles, and 8 large cartons of dishes which we delivered to a china & glassware replacement service, plus hanging clothes and sundry other items. My only complaint about our 2014 Escape is the "infotainment" panel located in the center of the dashboard, because its operating logic is so convoluted that it defies this simple but rational ex-computer programmer's ability to understand it. In 1979 I bought a new Sedan de Ville and kept it for 10 years. In the past, I've always considered that Caddy to be the best auto I've ever owned. But so far, this versatile 2014 Escape is far more fun to drive, and less trouble to own. Final update: Still trouble-free after 65,000 miles. Traded it so that somebody else could enjoy it. Dealer re-sold it locally.

Good Performance and Value
First the good news. It is a nice looking SUV. Especially with the Titanium Package. We got a good deal on the price of the vehicle from the Ford Dealer in addition to 0% interest. The 2.0 Turbo engine is smooth and powerful. This SUV has good acceleration with the optional 2.0 Ecoboost engine. Driving without being real conservative, we average a combined city/highway mileage of 27.3 miles per gallon. The ride is comfortable and the vehicle handles well. Brakes are good. Navigation screen is a good size and gives clear directions. Controls are good quality. The SUV has good room inside and the back seats laying flat is a great feature for more cargo space. They are also easy to operate. Heated front seats are nice and the rear camera/sensors work well. Minor negative observations. I wish there was just a little less road noise at highway speed. Seal at bottom of doors would probably help get rid of some of that. The front seats could use about another 1/2 inch of knee bolster. The Sony Audio System is acceptable but is not as good as the Harmon Kardon one we had in our last car. The Sync System has a hard time understanding voice commands. These are minor negative observations after owning vehicle for 18 months and 15K miles. Ford Escape is a great vehicle and a good value for the money. Update: 26K miles. Still like the vehicle and I think it is a good value for the money. I wish the gas tank was about 2-3 gallons larger. My mileage has dropped to 26.7 average city/highway combined.

Fantastic vehicle!
I love my Titanium 2.0 AWD Escape so much when I took a friend shopping for a car after trying out several other brands she bought a twin to mine. Nothing is easier for those with limited mobility to get in and out of out of the 25+ cars we tested for my grandma to get in and out of who is 90 with limited mobility. Absolute bang up job Ford! 1/18/17 still everything I said it was before... amazing traction and handling even in the snow and ice. Unbeatable vehicle 48,500 miles

Good design but crappy parts
I got the 2014 Ford Escape Titanium AWD (2.0 Liter engine). I really like the design of the vehicle and the interior. The fuel economy isn't as bad as some have stated. I average about 24mpg combined (27-28 highway). The AWD does a really good job in slippery conditions, and I was pretty impressed with it. However! I bought it in Nov 2013 and I've already had a few issues that really surprised me. The first issue was within 10k miles. I had a bearing go bad in my front right wheel. The warranty covered it no problem, but it was still really strange. A couple of months later I had back left strut go bad, and I had to get that replaced. Still it was under warranty so it wasn't a huge issue, but I was starting to worry about the quality of the Ford parts. Now this week I took it in for a knocking noise when I back-up and it turns out my front left strut is bad as well. This time however it was only covered under the extended warranty for some reason, so I had to pay a 100$ co-pay. At this point I'm basically considering my options to escape this Escape. I'm barely at 35k miles on this thing and not quite 2 years of ownership. I understand parts go bad, but for 3 parts to fail in the first 2 years and 35k miles worries me. Update: I'm near 3 years of ownership and since the last issues stated above I haven't had any of the same issues. It could have been that those initial issues in the first couple years of ownership were flukes or bad luck. I'm at 50k miles and my first set of tires are wearing out and require new tires, which is pretty normal I'd say.

2014 Ford Escape first impressions are great
Just bought 2014 Escape Titanium 2.0 liter AWD First 150 miles: 1. Top notch build quality--interior on par with the low end BMW small SUV, quiet 2. European drive-great agility fun to drive 3. Mileage is fine--I am getting 23.5 mpg in mixed driving on a lot of hills--pretty much as expected-no long highway trip yet 4. MyTouch--with all due respect to consumer reports, it was easy to master in 15 minutes and works really well. Has a lot of features that are very convenient and useful. I just don't get all the negative hype about this. Perhaps it is due to non computer savvy folk? Here is my 60,000 mile update! Yes 60,000 in two years Absolutely no repairs Now getting 26 mpg in mixed country hi way driving No rattles or squeaks My touch has always worked without problems Drives tightly and sporty a pleasure to drive I have liked this car so much that I've ordered a 2017 escape

LOVE THIS VEHICLE
I traded my 2009 chevy Colorado for the 4wd, 1.6 liter Titanium. Although I loved my truck and was sad to trade, I have not missed my truck at all! I now get 27 mpg on highways and have even gotten 33.5 mpg on 2 lane country roads, depending on how hard I drive it. It is a super fun vehicle to drive. We have driven it 8 hours to the beach and it was very comfortable. Everything has worked perfectly on this vehicle. I was worried about the acceleration due to going from a V8 to a 4 cyl, but the acceleration is great. I have no complaints whatsoever about this vehicle. Very happy!
The biggest POS I've ever owned
Beware, this vehicle is the worst vehicle I have ever owned. I purchased this 2014 SUV to replace a 2002 Toyota that I gave my son. In Jan 2015 the torque converter went out and ford replaced my transmission with a 1 year warranty. After the year was up, I started having issues with what I thought was my transmission slipping, ford dealership couldn't find anything wrong with the vehicle, blamed it on a recall. If you look this vehicle up there have been a lot of recalls. This car would stall, and sometimes not even go anywhere. I learned to put it in park and back in drive to be able to drive off and while driving down the road it jerked a lot. I finally found out that the intelligent 4wheel drive was messed up causing my car to go into 4wheel drive while in motion. This car had a constant whining noise that wouldn't go away. I finally couldn't take it anymore and traded it in and lost a lot of money. Thankful now to have purchased a vehicle I feel safe in and rides a thousand times better than the ford. Being a single mother I try and keep a vehicle to the wheels fall off, this was my first trade in and I have never been so happy to get rid of something in my life. I am 46 by the way. Run from this vehicle, do notchase it...

Titanium 2.0L EcoBoost transmission bust
Love the features but can’t keep a vehicle that needs a transmission replacement at 53K. Bought used in Oct 2016 with 24K miles. Axle seal failure in Feb 2017. Lost all power on freeway due to loss of transmission fluid. Dealership fixed seal and replaced fluid. Brought back to dealership in 2017 at least three times after that to address shifting issues that resembled the issues I had before the axle seal went (as I was worried that it was happening to another seal). Every time I was told either a.) the shifting issues couldn’t be replicated by their techs or b.) the shifting issues were within the standards of this particular transmission (2.0L EcoBoost). Stopped taking it in because dealership maintained there was nothing wrong or if there was, they couldn’t replicate issue. Fast forward to June 2018. In preparation for a 1000-mile road trip I took vehicle to an independent repair shop for an oil change and just happened to mention shifting issues. After one day in the shop their tech could not only replicate the shifting issue they also expressed concern over the dark transmission fluid. “Should not be that dark for a 53K vehicle.” Actually that fluid is only a little over a year old due to replacement after the axle seal issue in Feb 2017. The independent shop felt that “transmission failure was imminent” and warned me not to take vehicle on trip. Took vehicle to different dealer before heading to Enterprise to rent a car. After a couple weeks of not being able to replicate issue (???) they ultimately decided to disassemble the transmission and replace it with a remanufactured transmission. Still waiting for them to start the work. Will sell/trade vehicle as soon as work is complete. Wanted to love this vehicle but I just can’t.

Buyer Beward
I purchased a 2014 Ford Escape new. Transmission failed at 77k miles. Powertrain warranty is for 60k miles. The owners manual calls for zero maintenance until 150k miles. I reached out to Ford to try recoup costs for this lemon and they refused. Replacement transmission cost $5,900 with tax and labor. Considering sticker price was around $30,000, one would expect the transmission to last longer than the first set of tires. I was wrong. Hopefully others will find a better quality vehicle.

60K Miles, 4200 pounds on a truck scale, 27MPG HWY
my "major " problems? Rear wire fell off on day#1 the plastic pull down handle on gate split apart 1 year. I am a car guy not a whiner so I put two Deck Screws in the handle and used two plastic tie wraps to secure the two halfs. Works great! I am 250 pounds myself! My tool bags are at least the same. My Gas mileage is very good I think. 4WD is AWESOME. First day I had it we got 2 feet of snow in Watertown NY and It was not plowed in the downtown area and the Escape drove thru like it was nothing. I use Firestone Snow Tires. I am worried about the 1.6 motor failing so I change oil evry 3K miles. Knock on Wood no troubles at all! 60K miles. Looking to go to 125K and then replace. UPDATE - Oct 11 2016 - Rear Axle system has failed. Bearings worn out. Dealer has ordered parts. Will be back to me in three weeks time. Price $ 2700 I have rented a KIA SEDONA from NATIONAL for $ 700 for a few weeks. to keep on the road doing my repairs. So you may need to add $ 3400 to the total cost of ownership when you factor in your math.

2014 Ford Escape Titanium 2.0 liter ecoboost
Bought the 2.0 liter 2014 Ford Escape Titanium from AutoNation Ford in Jacksonville, FL. I now have about 2,500 miles on the vehicle and am perfectly satisfied with all options and accessories including but not limited to Navigation, Sirius radio, sync, My Ford touch, panoramic moon roof, tow package etc. This is a comfortable and smooth riding vehicle which is also well built and easy to look at. I traded in a 2012 Ford Escape for the 2014 and have been very pleased with Ford quality in general and in this vehicle specifically.
Solid vehicle
Okay, up front, this car weirdly burns a little oil right when it starts up, but it's been doing it for most of its life. At 108,000+ miles, it's still doing well. I would recommend if you buy a turbocharged vehicle to check the oil once in awhile. Usually I don't even have to add any before the next oil change, but I like to check it just to be safe and take good care of the car. As far as everything else, we've had no major repairs, just brakes and some recalls. We've taken it on some long trips, and my wife drives it on her 50-ish mile commute every weekday, plus it's our main vehicle on the weekends. One thing I've noticed is this car's gas mileage drops to around 26-27 mpg in colder weather (sometimes lower in extreme cold, like 10 degrees F or less) but stays around 28-28.5 when it's warm out. I can't complain though. For a decently roomy family vehicle, even 26 mpg is pretty good. The touchscreen controls aren't as intuitive as the new Fords, but they work well once you get used to them. Also, I've put some pretty serious loads in this little SUV with the rear seats folded down, and it really excels in that department. We also like that the rear seats can be tipped back slightly instead of being left straight up. It takes away a few cubic inches of cargo space, but it's nicer and more comfortable for the kids. This is a comfortable car to drive. The ride is a little stiff, but I feel like that's a side effect of having sporty suspension and top notch handling. I'm serious. This little thing handles like it's on rails. One thing you should know if you buy one is that the traction control is terrible on snow or ice. The best thing to do if you're on an un-plowed snowy road is to shut off the traction control, which is a little annoying because you have to go into "settings" every time. Other than that, I can't complain about a car that's been driven 21,000 miles per year with no major problems, starts up every day, and is cheap to insure. (also, I'm just a hair shy of 6 feet tall, and this little car has plenty of head and leg room for me, which is nice too)

Sporty SUV - Escape Titanium 2.0L AWD
I recently traded in my 2010 camaro to get more room and better winter driving. I researched and drove a lot of cars and I have never owned a ford, I liked the escape the best. I got the almost completely loaded Titanium version, I was a little scared off the price at the start but the car had a lot of great tech features that I liked and I was able to get close to $5000 off MSRP with incentives and negotiations (use True Car to save some $$$). The titanium has everything you could possible use in a car! The 2.0 L turbo also has good power. Mixed driving has been about 25 MPG so far. The car is solid overall and has everything you could think of for options on the loaded version.
Love it, if it weren't for all the rattles!
I really love everything about my escape, its the 2.0 turbo, but the interior rattles drive me nuts, and there's too many to even try and have "fixed". Sad that a vehicle with so few miles on it sounds like a 300,000 mile car. infact, I drive my '71 Chevy truck more because it's almost rattle free and 45 years old. I would really love it if it was quieter inside, but I'll probably have to get rid of it for something better built.

Not As Good As Expected !
Having owned Fords previously with little to no trouble, this Escape has not been as good. The ride is very jittery, but it does handle well with good brakes. The AC has quit working twice with no help for the dealer since he could not replicate the problem. Now the rear hatch panel/handle has broken and is going in for repair. The gas mileage is not anywhere close to the window sticker, I actually get better mileage from my Mustang ! This is not going to be a long term keeper but still too new to trade and lose our shirt. Our Escape is one year old with approx. 10,000 miles.

14 Escape SE 1.6
I bought the Escape new on Black Friday and after 5300 miles and several trips back to the dealer....The dealer agreed to pay me back the entire purchase price on this very challanged vehicle. (1) the heat doesnt work very well, (2) the breaks squeal, (3) the interior rattles. I owned a new 2010 and that was a VERY good vehicle 70K miles and only 2 trips to the dealer for recalls/TSBs.
For Escape SE
I bought the Escape SE in March. About 1750 miles now. Averages 25 MPG now, with conservative driving in the City. About 50 miles a day. Not tested on the highway yet. 05-10-2016 05-26-2018 Now about 50000 miles. Was getting 26.5 mpg, but now it has come down to 24.5 don't know why. Changed filer, reported to the Service, got it checked, still don't know why. Had only minor issues. Regular services were done. Same driving style - now mpg is 26.6/gallon. After the Fuel Pump Recall work, one of the sensors went bad - service engine soon warning showed up. Sensor was replaced, and now running good. 11-10-2016 The Escape SE is running good, giving 26.5 mpg with 30,000+ miles for mainly city driving. As of today I am happy with my purchase. 11-18-2017. Noticed highway miles 20 plus. MPG went down 26.5 to 26.3 after 600 miles. Now replaced air and cabin filters. May be due to that. Per Ford, he could not find any other reason. 44000 miles now. Running good. Happy. Will keep an eye on highway miles.

Not expecting this many issues with a Titanium pac
Car looked nice but the wind and interior rattling was so annoying. Took to dealership multi times with no change. Every bump has a rattle in dash and doors. Wasn't expecting a low quality and attention to detail on a Titanium package Ford

Escape 2.0 liter titanium 4WD/10,000 mile update
It's hard to believe but at an 80 mile per day round trip commute I am already at 10,000 miles in a vehicle I bought in April 2014. I do winding up and down country roads and a piece of interstate hiway every day. Mileage now 26.5mpg in combined driving. Not bad at all. This car continues to perform as if it is a much more expensive car. Still hugs the road like a beemer and with excellent acceleration. No rattles or squeaks. Solid feel. Mytouch has worked flawlessly, with no problems and pretty functional. Moon roof puts in exactly the right breeze--not too rough but can feel it. At this rate I'll have 50-60K after 2 years. I'll come back for an updated review at 25,000.
Very Disappointed In FORD!
I own a 2014 Ford Escape. I have had nothing but issues with it. I have had issues with the transmission and now my instrument panel is going out and Ford WILL NOT fix it. They say because it was manufactured in 2013 it is not covered by the recall on the 2014!! This issue clearly says in the recall that it is unsafe as you can no longer tell the mileage, tire pressure, cannot receive any messages, and cannot tell what gear your car is in. Ford should back up their products period! There are two other outstanding recalls, one for the door latches and another for a issue with a part on the engine that can catch fire...but there is NO FIX for it! Are you kidding me?? Now these issues are going to cost a fortune to address. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD! I Will let everyone that is interested in buying a Ford not to! I had called the ford motor corporate office in Detroit and was treated pretty shitty! I do not have the funds to repair these issues with my instrument panel. I have pleaded for them to fix the issue to no avail. Very Disappointed! DO NOT BUY A FORD!!!

This car has opened the road for us to travel.
We recently purchased a Ford Escape 2014 from Seeley Ford and Kia on Stadium dr. Kalamazoo Mi. This car was a real God send for the price they allowed me to buy it for. We find this car easy to drive with a lot of bells and whistles. I enjoy the technological part and the comfort of the seats and ride. We took it on a road trip recently from Mattawan, Michigan to northern Michigan around Gaylord then up to the bridge and back home on less then $70 for gas. Living on a fixed income this will make it a more do-able thing for us to travel on a shoe string savings. My husband and I are both disabled with Fibromyalgia and find it hard to ride for a long period of time. We suffered very little discomfort or fatigue from riding up to Gaylord or back home.

Worst car i've ever owned... sad really.
Was hoping a "newer" car would be the best thing, definitely did not do research and got this car.... Worst decision ever made. SOOOOO many recalls, the engine needed replaced before the car even had 34k miles. NOT RIGHT. luckily it was covered under the warranty. Engine light comes on every month at least since owning the car. (8months) has been sucking down gas so much so you can watch the meter go down, cant take it to get fixed without paying since the engine light didnt come on for that problem, waste of money completely. I do not advise anyone getting this car 100 percent. VERY DISAPPOINTED. I had a 2004 mazda van that ran smoother, and quieter and paid less in gas than this 2014 escape Only good thing about the car is the rear view camera and the heated seats, and the leather is comfortable, other then that, BAD quality. No large adult can fit comfortably in the back seat also, way too small cramped and seats arent as comfy as the front.

Making the Ford switch
I traded my 2012 Honda CRV for the 2014 Ford Escape to escape the Honda's horrible cabin road noise problem. In my humble opinion, the Honda was built on the cheap, while the Escape's interior materials are much better and the doors don't sound like tin cans. Fast forward to July, 2016. I've put over 50,000 miles of mixed driving on my 2014 Escape, which also includes two long road trips to Colorado. I've owned at least 35 cars and trucks and must say, the Escape is one of the very best vehicles of the bunch. It's fun to drive, love the fact it gives me great gas mileage (I have a heavy foot), the little fuel injected four banger engine has all the power and pickup I need while driving on the interstate highways, the seats are perfect as I can drive for hours without having back problems or undue stiffness. It's given great service and never had any mechanical problems or issues. The interior materials have held up very well and look about the same as my first day of ownership. We're now into January 2017 and I've had the Escape for three years, which may be a record for me, since I've been prone to trade vehicles once they hit 40,000 miles. It's been a very good and reliable vehicle and have never had any problems or issues. I change the oil and filter every 4,000 miles. The original tires lasted 45,000 miles. 90% of my miles are highway miles which is much easier on vehicles than town driving at slower speeds. I'm a happy camper and don't plan on trading anytime soon.

Was a great car until I hit 60,000 miles
Bought the car used with 17,000 miles, only problems I had was 1: lid for console broke and dealership wanted $400 to replace console and wasn't covered under warranty 2: Only one of the 4 charging ports in the car worked, I payed approximately $400 to repair, wasn't covered under warranty. Fast foward to 62,000. I had received a recall notice about the coolant sensor, twice I called the dealership and was told 1: hadn't received and instructions how to fix and 2: didn't have the parts necessary to repair and would contact me when available. I was driving home from work one night and my car flashed a bright red message to pull over safely as soon as possible because my car was overheating. I sat on the side of road for 15 minutes, then proceeded home (was only about 5 minutes away). Had radiator checked the next day, was almost empty, had it refilled and was told "all these cars leak". Called the dealership and told them what happened and they instructed me to come in that day to have fixed because they "now" had parts. They also fixed the seal on the axle which was covered under warranty, car was driving well. 2 months later, I was sitting in traffic and my car wouldn't move for a few minutes. I was able get to parking lot and seemed better. When I was driving home on the highway, the RPM gauge was almost up to six and fluctuating wildly but car was driving fine. I got off on the ramp and car started to act very sluggish and not driving well at all. I ended up being stuck at a stop light blocking traffic and having to get towed to the dealership. This time my transmission was overhauled which was covered under the extended warranty that I am so thankful that I purchased. Have had the car back for 2 weeks, so far so good, but really nervous about reliability in the future.

Unhappy with purchase
After 14 months of having the same repeated problems (in for service 20 times, over 45 days) and no fix! This Escape had the worst gas mileage (kept all receipts) average 14 MPG (mostly highway driving). Continual lies from Ford, never provided loaner, clear lemon, management couldn't care less, got hard balled once we mentioned getting an attorney because they couldn't fix and refused to replace. We finally did hire an attorney. Ford was ordered to repurchase! We were lifetime Ford family, now driving my 3rd Explorer, son drives a Ford Focus, and then this piece of junk Escape for my wife. WE WILL NEVER BUY A FORD AGAIN! God help you if you have problems. Their propaganda is: "#1 priority is customer satisfaction" I assure you, in our case, that's BS when they can't fix it. Ford will drag you through hell!

Hopeful
Purchased a used 2014 with a little over 14k miles. I had issues from early on but I'm hopeful once things are reconciled it will all be ok. Transmission seems to stall between shifting, AC stoped working, Gas mileage is horrible...I'm getting 15.3 highway/city it moved up from the 14.9. Automatic lights was killing my battery. Battery replaced Autolights out and battery is still draining. I'm hopeful.

It happened to me
I bought a 2014 Ford Escape new in 9/2014. In June 2015 I took it to the dealership at 10,785 miles and reported problems accelerating quickly. The transmission is not engaging. Service department could not verify the concern. Through the years I have intermittently noticed the same issue. On December 27, 2018 while driving with my 83 yr old mother, in raining foggy conditions, I stepped on the gas to merge quickly onto the freeway and heard the loudest noise from the engine. I said to my mom “What was that?” Luckily we got home safely. The next day the same thing happened while trying to accelerate quickly. This time I lost power for a few seconds and had to pull off the busy street. I immediately took it to the dealership, was given a loner car and waited for the diagnostic which came back as internal transmission failure at 68,778 miles. We were given a quote of $6,300.00 to replace the transmission! We called Ford Motor Company Customer Service (800-392-3673) with our complaint. They worked with the service station and we just paid $2,369 for a new transmission. VERY disappointing that a such a serious repair was required. Furthermore my/our safety was compromised!
Fun Little SUV
After 6 years of driving a Ford Focus, I found that although I loved the car, I missed being in an SUV. I have a 2003 Explorer XLT that serves as our boat hauler/ camping vehicle, but needed something comfortable for trips to our mountain house. I've found it. This is an amazingly fun little SUV - handles well, and looks and feels like a much more expensive vehicle. One of the best driving cars I've ever owned. The gas mileage is not on par with my former Focus, but it's an easy trade off for the room and comfort in the Escape.
Purchase the extended warrenty
Beware the certified vehicle con. The 99 point check sheet is just pencil whipped. Purchased this car with 58000 miles. Three weeks later the battery died. The battery is a check point so the dealer replaced it. Heard a constant whine from the right rear wheel, took it back to the dealership and was told it was a drive axle or wheel bearing. Turns out it was the rear differential and had to have it replaced. It would have cost about 3500 for a owner to fix but again since the dealership certified it and passed it they had to eat it as well. I have had this car 2.5 months and I am very disappointed with Ford's poor standard. Beware the certified vehicle line, it is just a way to up the vehicles price.

Water Leaking
Had vehicle for a little over 2 years now. Great acceleration and handling. Gas mileage not as advertised. Average 20 mpg city and 26 hwy. Only problem is the water leak on passenger side front. Both sides were leaking but dealer fixed drivers side. After two attempts by dealer to repair, passenger side still leaks. We are glad we leased and did not buy this vehicle.

Excellent small SUV
I'm amazed to hear the complaints by others of bad gas mileage and the Sync system. I'll address those first. A 2012 Escape with the V-6 has much less HP and torque and will only get about 19mpg city. Our 2014 2.0 Eco Boost gets around 22 to 23 in the city commute with 240 HP, it's got more power than my 1985 Mustang GT. It scoots! Plus the MPG is 15% higher than its V-6 predecessor. What about that isn't awesome. The engine is so good you can find it in the Range Rover Evoque at 40-50k. Any complaints here just can't be non-agenda driven. The SYNC system is very intuitive to us. No problems at all. I'm not really sure what is so difficult to understand.
2L Titanium, but choice isn't listed
In August, 2013, I purchased my 2014 2L FWD Titanium model. Aside from the bad work from Brandon Ford, where I purchased it AND Ford refusing to honor my $1,200 warranty for a shattered panoramic glass which took 3wks to repair, and the air leak it's been almost flawless. I've waited for months for the dealer to return my calls and for Ford to do the right thing, so hey, I'm going to talk about it. The good part is, I like the vehicle with little exception. It isn't as smooth as my Explorer AWD was, but steering feel from the D/S is excellent and driving exp. is great. Economy has gone UP! Started around 22mpg avg and has gone to nearly 25mpg avg. 8.1k on the odometer.
Two time Fail Faulty 2014 Ford Escape Transmissio
This car is terribly dangerous. Ford failed faulty transmission went out twice once at 84,329 miles. I purchase it new & this is what I ended up with. Fixed by dealership Jan. 4, 2017. Then its went out again Jan. 18, 2018. Sadly it was given only one year warranty. So it would cost 4,229. 00 to fix it. I asked other mechanics & they said check out google complaints for your car. I did & there are so many complaints out there & guest what Ford is doing about it? NOTHING! Mechanics are saying get rid of it because once it is repaired look for it to go out again within one to three years. Plus there are other Ford cars with this same problems. 😢 to have a car note and have to ride uber, lyft , & public transportation to get around. I don't have 4,229.00 to fix it. Ford need a class action law suit started. Someone out there with money we need your help!

Transmission problems
The Ford Escape is a nice ride while it lasts. At 100,000K expect major repairs. This is my 2nd Escape and my last because both have had the transmission go out at around 100,000 miles. For the 2014, it went out at 100,247 miles. I would not recommend this vehicle.

It's just a great car!
I have a 2014 Ford Escape SE 2.0 EcoBoost AWD (Edmunds site doesn't have the 2.0 listed) and I freaking love it. Yes, I've had a couple issues. No, it's not perfect. But, I drive almost 40,000 miles per year. I commute almost 100 miles per day in this car, have driven it from NY to FL, taken it on several vacations, used to for some light off-roading, and have hauled a good bit in it. I'd like to think I've gotten a ton of use out of it. The good: It has a comfortable and spacious interior, a number of awesome features (like the built-in rear 3-prong 110V AC Power Inverter, reclining rear seats, 2 tier cargo floor, hidden storage compartment in the floor behind the passenger seat, and MASSIVE windshield), and is so easy to drive. It handles very well through corners for a crossover, and is especially quick in the 2.0 AWD setup. It's no sports car, but it's given a couple a run for their money. The seats are comfortable, but don't offer much bolstering so best not to take corners TOO fast or risk falling out. The sound system's not bad either, and while the Sync media system takes a learning curve, it's usable once you get used to it. The bad: The interior is a bit awkward; there's no storage other than the center console, so finding a place to store your phone and wallet is a bit of a pain. There's only one DC plug up front, and while there are 2 USBs in the center console, they're hidden away and not convenient to anyone trying to charge their phone. The ugly: My transmission has been rebuilt twice, both under warranty. I credit that to my more aggressive driving style and the amount of miles I put on my car daily. My instrument cluster had to be replaced because the screen went out. I was told that's a common issue. I occasionally get a "LOW BRAKE FLUID" warning but check only to find its perfectly full. The wipers are a pain to change out because of their size and crossed design. They often have to be recalibrated or they'll hit each other and send a wiper flying off your car (been there, done that). Overall, I love my car. It has some issues every now and then, but never fails to start, move, and comfortably get me where I need to go. 2014 Ford Escape SE 2.0 EcoBoost AWD Options: - Sync 2 w/ Navigation - Dual Climate Control w/ heated mirrors - Heated front seats - Leather interior - Remote start - Panoramic roof **Update: I traded the ol' Escape in about 7 months ago. It remains a perfectly good car, and I'm questioning whether or not I should've traded it. Had it not been for the killer deal I got on a new Ford Ranger, I'd likely still have it.

be careful!
Never broke down, but.... CV joints, wheel-bearings, or something in the front-end began howling at about 50K. Never actually diagnosed, but the noise is consistent with that type of thing, and in any case its LOUD. Now 62K, and wipers turn on randomly, blower motor went out, and when it gets real cold the radio and rear back-up camera don't work. Tires are good and rated at 60K. One got a hole in it but still went to 58K+, and the other three are still going strong. ***Update*** 89,000 miles: all above problems plus a door/door-lock issue were fixed either under warranty or as factory recall. After sitting for 3-4 weeks, the radio would no longer keep time after being set. After one day, it mysteriously fixed itself. Where the driver's side metal rear-quarter meets the plastic rear-bumper molding, it is falling out of alignment. A minor cosmetic issue. Still never broke down, good reliable car that I plan to keep. ***Update*** 96,000 miles: replaced battery since last entry.

14 escape titanium 2.0l AWD w/nav. and pan roof
Great so far. traded a 13 Honda crv ex-l on this 14 tit. 2.0l awd. The Honda seats were very uncomfortable. Every day use made your tailbone sore. Worked with an upholstery guy for a while but to no avail. Only drove 1400 miles. the ford makes the Honda feel like it was a ten year old car. Love the power of the 2L turbo. Much better than the 1.6 in my fusion se fwd. drives nice, feels solid, quiet. put a hitch on. 2000 lb cap. learning to use the nav. and sync. nice features but takes some learning. Will follow up at 10000 miles or so. About 17,000 miles now and like it more than when it was new. Air works great compared to that Honda. Excellent engine power. Seats still a little firm for me but they are pretty nice. Might try an Edge next time for more room. About 22000 now. Still like it a lot. 10% less gas mileage but 30% more H.P. than the Honda. Big power difference. My friends thought it was a V6 engine, and that was with four people in it with the air running. almost 30000 miles now and everything is good. still love that 2.0L turbo engine. This setup is great, I hope it runs a long time. Tires getting iffy, but that's normal for factory rubber. I would like something a little bigger next time, like the edge sport would be great. 37000 miles now and nothing new to add. 42,000 plus miles and all is well. Love the power of the 2.0 ecoboost. replaced the battery and tires. That's it so far. 55000 mi and all is well. Still impressed with this engine. Edmunds needs to update their model information. A 2.0 liter turbo was not on the model choices. 65000 and just rear brakes so far.

Warning! Do not buy 2014 Ford Escape!
I purchased a 2014 Ford Escape 35K miles, 1.6 Liter engine, 4WD, Ecoboost w/ Turbo in Nov 2016. At first everything was good at 40,000 miles a wheel bearing needed to be replaced, 50,000 the axle seal needed to be replaced, at 60,000 the Turbo case is leaking oil! Then just last week the transmission stated to slip! And of course it's out of warranty now, can't believe all this has gone wrong with this car! Ford has definitely gone down the drain as far as quality built vehicles go and they do not stand by their vehicles either from what I hear. Their more concerned about their profit margins and shareholders then they are their own customers. My family has owned nothing but Fords for the past 60 years! If Ford will not stand behind the vehicles it builds I will not stand behind Ford that builds these vehicles! I never thought the day would come when I would say I will never buy another Ford product again! All I've ever bought and owned was Ford vehicles, I was a very loyal customer. My advice to Ford Motor Company is they should read some of these reviews and get with it and at least stand behind their product which apparently they have not done in a while. I feel it suffices to say that Ford Motor Company unfortunately will never be what they used to be.

We are happy with our 2014 Ford Escape now
Update: Since we had the major repairs done (transmission, air conditioner, etc.) the car has been a delight. It is comfortable and reliable. We are holding on to it for a while longer. I'm a loyal Ford guy, and I've had 8 Fords since my first Explorer in 1991. I have never had to put so much money into keeping one running as I have with this car. I had to put in a new transmission at 131 thousand miles, after having it fixed under the warranty earlier. Now its one thing after another, regularly requiring expensive service.I had to replace the air conditioner, bearings, tie rods, etc... The car is beautiful and when it is running right it is a delight. But it has been so expensive and such a problem that I am looking at vehicles outside the Ford family for the first time in quite a while.

2.0L Turbo AWD Escape is a Great Car for my needs
Bought a used 2014 Escape 2.0L turbo AWD and have driven over 20,000 miles along the Colorado Front Range of the Rockies. Acceleration and handling are superb on twisty mountain roads and on 75 mph interstates. Cross winds of 40 mph do not affect steering this car at high speeds due to a good aerodynamic design. The turbo engine gives rapid acceleration, even uphill, and is great when merging into the 75 mph Colorado interstate lanes from short entrance merge lanes. I keep my car on the Ford maintenance schedule and have not had any major breakdowns or repairs. I purchased the Escape 2.0L Turbo AWD because I wanted a performance car with a large interior carrying capacity. I have no complaints and am exceedingly happy with my purchase.

A big disappointment
I bought this vehicle thinking that for the compact space I would get descent gas mileage. well I get 17 MPG in city and 26 on highway - far below what I was told back seat has little room if front seat passengers are tall. lots of rattles and road noise. Have taken it in for issues three times in first year. The console is designed poorly and not a lot of handy storage, compared to the Toyotas or Hondas I have owned this is a great disappointment in terms of quality and design
I like it
I purchased my 2014 CPO in May 2016; I'm writing this review in December 2017. My car currently has about 48,000 on it. I have every option but the sunroof and towing package. Overall, I really like it but a few things may prevent me from getting another one. I'm a 40-something woman who loves cars and has had a lot of them. I prefer cars that are more fun (GTI, Mini Cooper S, etc) but decided to get something completely different this time. What I love - the engine, the steering g, the handling, the seats, the ergonomics, the safety features. What I don't love - the dash and be the console are ugly, it isn't the easiest thing to see out of, the rattles in the center console, the interior trim pieces that keep falling off. To me, the drive is like that of an older VW (i mean that as a huge compliment) but the stupid quality issues annoy me. Used or CPO, I think this is a good value new, I think it's expensive. If they'd take the mechanics of the car and put them in a German car skin, it would be perfection. I tend not to keep cars for more than a couple of years but I think I'll keep this one for a while. I do miss being in a car vs. a crossover so I'll probably get a station wagon next time but that's just my personal preference. I do think that more people should consider Fords than currently do; i test drive a bunch of foreign brands before I bought the Escape and it was better than most of them, at least of what I wanted, which was a quick wagon that handled well and has good safety features like BLIS. I am a little worried about how best the this f will look in 3 more years, though.

higher trim levels are most compelling
A little more expensive than others in the class but with great handling and the powerful 2.0 liter engine it's a great car to drive, and the material quality of the dash and door panels is nice enough not to look out of place when you upgrade to leather seats. The infotainment system requires that you take an hour or two to sit down and learn how to use it if you are going to get the most out of it. The suspension smooths vibrations and small bumps out well, but a good sized pot hole can be pretty jarring if you drive through it. I have never gotten gas millage as high as the highway estimates, but also never quit as low as the city estimates. in combined driving I get around 25 mpg.
Disappointing! It's been a bumpy ride.
This car has given me quite a headache the last couple months. First of all, the FWD version is absolutely terrible in the snow. The dealership told me that I wouldn't need 4x4....and I listened. I live in Michigan, and on the day of a small snow storm, I literally saw five Ford Escapes similar to mine STUCK! Of course I need 4x4. The traction control in this vehicle is horrible. (I also need for the car to not take 20 minutes to heat up/cool down....that'd be nice). Next, trying to get this car to accelerate is like watching paint dry. I'll be gray before I can get this thing to 70 mph. Also, above the passenger door is water damage from some sort of leak. Not sure if it's the windshield or if it is something else, but I felt it once when it was raining and it was soaking wet. The biggest problem I have with this vehicle right now is that the passenger door won't lock. The car will beep twice when I try to lock it (it usually only beeps once.) I just ignored it at first, but when it started happening more frequently, I went around to see if all the doors were locked. Sometimes when I go around and slam each door, it'll lock....but it hasn't worked the last few times I've tried it. I've been putting off trying to schedule maintenance on the car for the last couple months, but now I have no choice. I don't feel safe in the vehicle, and the fuel economy is absolutely horrendous. This car is a complete disappointment and I can't wait to trade it in for something else.
