Quite a Buy for a mid sized SUV

If you want the luxurious ride of a Lexus 400 but can't afford the price, this may be the car for you. A smooth ride with good acceleration when desired. Very comfortable seating, quiet ride(not quite as good as the Lexus I tested) and above average instrument panel both visually and with hands-on. Traded a Chev Equinox LTZ and the turning radius is much improved as to what I had with the Equinox. Mileage about as expected given i have a heavy foot even though it is a 4 cylinder turbo all wheel drive. Would highly recommend to anyone looking at the Lexus 400, Lincoln MDX etc that can't afford the price tag. 1/2024 and I still feel the same. Thinking 3 more years.

40,000 miles on our car so far and we've had to have the engine replaced and the rear differential went out. Both times took months to fix because Ford didn't have parts available, which tells me the problems must be widespread.

I am disappointed in the gas mileage. Far less than advertised and I am not a quick accelerator.

We purchased our 2017 Ford Edge with the 3.5 L new. This car has been outstanding so far. We have 35,000 miles on it to date and have not had any major issues at all. The only warranty work we had done was replacement of front drive shaft carrier bearing. It got a little noisy at about 20,000 miles. The vehicle is very quiet on the highway, has good acceleration and shifts very smooth. My wife loves this car. Lots of interior room and the seats are comfortable and because it sits a little higher it is easy to get in and out of the vehicle. The handling is very stable and the AWD is excellent. This vehicle has never slid around a corner or gone out of control on snowy roads. The blind spot indicator works great on the highway and really makes driving in traffic much easier. The sync system works great and is easy to operate. I have only a short list of items that I have noticed about the vehicle. Small bumps at lower speed seem a little harsh. It is sometimes hard to know where the front of the vehicle is when pulling up to a curb or wall but you do get used to that. The cross traffic alert system works great but sometimes is annoying like backing out of the garage. The things my wife loves about the car are the heated seats and steering wheel. The remote start works so well and she can start the car from in her office at the end of the day. This is actually our second Edge. Our first was a 2015 SEL that had the 2.0 turbo 4 cylinder and it was much quieter than the 3.5L, especially when accelerating, and it actually seemed a little quicker. We purchased the 2017 to get some of the upgrades mentioned above. We will definitely purchase another Ford Edge.

My impression after 6 months

I think the most important thing to do is to rent the car you intend to buy and drive it for 2-3 days in as many different conditions as possible. A car is a very personal thing. One person can love a car for feature X and another may hate it because of that very same feature or the quality with which the vehicle delivers that feature. For this review I will start off with my "main" issue and then offer my insight on the other aspects of the vehicle. I tried like crazy to rent an EDGE but it was "season" down here and SUVs were in very high demand. I decided a "test drive" would have to do. I test drove the EDGE and I was told I could not go on the highway. The road we were driving on was rather remote so I managed to get the car up to 55 MPH for about 10 seconds. All seemed well. I test drove the 2.0l turbo SEL as well as a V6. Long story short, I shopped around for the best price and found a fantastic price ($1500 lower than all the rest) in the middle of the state. I arrived around 5:30 PM and dropped of the rental. The sales person came and picked me up. I wanted to test drive the car but it only had gas for 1 mile. This was done so as to "make it diffcult for thieves" he said. Not sure I bought the explanation but......... Long story short, I sign and begin my drive home. I immediately notice that at about 55-60 MPH there is a very annoying, turbulent and gusting wind noise. In case you haven't guessed, a quiet, insulated, smooth ride is by far the most important thing for me. My heart literally sank. I was sitting in a brand new 35k wind experiment. I later started to hear squeaks and creaks from around the shifter. Every time I accelerated, applied the brake, hit a bump or turned a bit sharply there it was. A few days later I noticed the doors were not put on properly. My fiance actually had to use her shoulder to jar it open. Really Ford??? QC people.......... My mother received some rather serious medical news so I had to care for her for a few months but now I am expecting Ford and their dealers to correct these issues ASAP. The first dealer I went to tried but was unable to permanently correct the creaking noises and the door was only partially corrected. I am now in the process of going to another dealer. I have called Ford and will create a stink as big as I have to until some type of restitution is provided. These things have to be corrected. I did not pay 35k in order to drive around from dealer to dealer trying to fix Ford's problems. The biggest problem in my estimation is that quantity over quality mentality. They spend millions of $$$ for research, testing etc. and yet these basic things slip right by. No matter how stern I get with a service advisor, all I'd be doing is to stress them out more than they already are. It isn't their fault. The ones that give a darn run around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to please everyone. In my estimation, the problems I am experiencing are sad, unacceptable, unforgivable and reflect very badly on those at the factory and towards the top of the management chain. So, if you don't mind wind noise, squeaky/creaky plastic and crooked doors, the rest of the SUV is actually quite nice. I think they did a very good job with the steering, acceleration and braking. I purchased the 3.5l V6 Titanium (although I know it isn't an option on this site, it does actually exist. The 2.0l with turbo was sluggish for me) The technology is quite good and the 8 in. screen is quite nice. I have the Sony stereo and that has some nice features and delivers good sound. The SUV is spacious (I'm a bit over 6 ft). The climate controls work very well as do the heated seats. Gas mileage is decent for me at about 21 mpg combined. I am very careful never to exceed 2500 rpms but i can live with that. Again, each person is different. This may bug some people. Some people say the suspension is a bit stiff. I wouldn't have minded if it were a bit softer myself but overall it is quite smooth and does not bother me at all. Overall, if this car didn't squeak, suffer from that annoying, excessive wind noise and had the various parts assembled properly, I think it could have been a most excellent vehicle. I will gladly update my review in the event there is anything to report.
