Nice Truck, BUT
The truck is great I love it. The only thing wrong is I get A LOT of WIND SOUND on the drivers door. I took it in to Carmax in Los ANgeles and they tell me nothing is wrong. I will try back with Frahm but if they dont fix it I will be trying a Ford in two years.
Wish it was better
The truck is pretty nice, but it is very very sensitive to every bump in the road. Especially at 65-70 on a freeway, the truck starts bucking to the point that I have to slow down to feel like I can control it! Also not pleased with build quality. Big pain blemish in the cab embedded in the actual finish! Dealer says they have to strip entire cab to fix. Found other paint defects, like over spray drips. Fit not great, especially with hood. Interior is fantastic, I love the extra storage and roominess, and the rear seat arrangement.
I'm satisfied
I bought my pickup in August of 2002. The dealer had a demo with 13000 miles that had the options (Crew cab, Dark red, 4.7V8, Premium seats, aluminum wheels) that I wanted. I now have over 25000 miles on the truck. I have really enjoyed the smooth quiet ride (for a truck) and the spacious cab. I highly recommend the premium seats. The engine is adequate but could use more power especially for the amount of fuel it consumes (average 15.4 MPG). I hardly notice the transmission working. The truck feels stable and easy to maneuver. Over all I am very satisfied.
A Perfect 10 Around The USA
Purchased the vehicle Feb 2002; I drove this new truck on a cross- country road trip starting in June 2002 which consisted of summer weather, 4 months constant driving, and 17,000 miles total trip. Midwest to New York to Miami, Miami to San Diego, San Diego up old Hiway 1 to Seattle, and back to the Midwest starting point. I purchased this truck new with 9 miles on it; it's red SLT Plus (now called Larmie) and had the Sport package (20" wheels). New retail price was $38,915; it had every option available. Other vehicles I own: Lincoln Navigator, BMW X5 and Mercedes S600. My favorite: The DODGE; why?...I had no problems with it what-so-ever. NONE!
Great Truck
Very good handling ,rides nice.Very car like interior. Exterior big truck like. No problem with anything.Just needs a little more power.
work truck
My truck has been used to tow boats and cars to Florida and no matter the size the truck pulls it like it is empty
Bought it used
I'm not sure what to say other then get a warranty. I bought my Ram used and have had nothing but problems with it. I'm not sure if it was abused before me but is surley abusing me. I bought it with 47,000 miles and have replaced the motor, rear end, radiator, and now have to replace the AC condenser fan and a control module. The check engine light is on more then off. Love the truck but it is getting pricey to keep and the warranty which covers very little is almost up.
throttle response and handling
I bought the 2 door model with the 4.7L V8 for the sole purpose to get from point a to point b.If you compare the hp rating to that of the 5.3L cheverolet you will be disapointed in dodge. But line the two up at your local red light and the dodge really surpises you. Its handling is that not of a truck. I'll drive it till the wheels fall off and buy another one in its place.
Best truck Yet
Best truck I have ever owned. I cant say enough about it. I true winner from the Dodge boys
2002 TUFF RAM
Thus far I am absolutely 100% satisfied and pleased with this vehicle. When I purchased I was torn between the GMC, Ford and Dodge. I ended up with the Dodge and still believe this is the best choice. My next truck will definitely be another Ram but this time it may be a 2500 or 3500 with a HEMI.
This truck fits
Steering – big improvement, and the manual transmission shifts nicely and has a decent set of ratios. The clutch is nice, too. The 4.7L engine is a good mate for this tranny, but it has a lower than expected toque feel at the lower rpms. No biggie, I just need to relearn the shifting and acceleration methods. Towers using this engine should try the higher ratio diff. The ride height is excellent. The shorter bed is an excellent comprimise with the rear cab space. The storage spaces are great - although the brochure is somewhat misleading - talk to your dealer. Driven 500 miles so far. Mileage: City ~15, hwy ~18 - better than EPA! It does not "feel" as large as it is.
Great Truck
Truck handles well, steering wheel feels good, and with the fully adjustable seats, the truck is easy to drive. It was a great looking truck when it was new and it still is the best looking truck out there.
Great Family Truck
My wife and I like this truck a lot. We are both over 6 feet tall and drove several SUV type vehicles. NONE had the room the RAM does, and it has a bed to boot. Great for the little woman to go out and bring home lots of stuff from local yard sales. I also feel a lot better knowing that our baby is being wrapped in American steel.
good truck
easy acess under the hood.nice ride doesn't like bumps at higher speeds. seats need to recline all the way. when you open the doors snow falls on the seats. back seat good room,no head protection from rear glass.
Ouch
I finally got the opportunity to get a new body style when my '00 Dodge's engine was about to blow and got a decent deal on this '02 SB Quad Cab 4x4. Now, the head light switch has issues and I'm constantly "flashing" people unintentionally. Or, the parking and fog lights are constantly on. Sure I could get the $130 brand spanking new light switch. Then there's the issue of averaging 10 mpg with $3 gas, and a 30 mile commute each way daily. I will probably end up trading this truck in tonight for an Avalanche or Xterra. At least they average 16-18 mpg. Also, there is no real "frame" on this truck. There's a special towing hitch that you have to buy. I'd be scared to tow our Airstream with this.
Big Red Ram
The big red ram I ordered is flame red and it is the best truck I have ever driven and I had a lot of gm products working for the city. The 5300 # beauty stands out every where and everybody that sees it stares or wants a closer look and says that its a beautiful truck. It rides like a limo and is very quick and nimble. Ken B
I Want my Chevy back!!!
I traded a '99 Chevy 1500 X-cab LT Z71, back in March for this 02 Dodge 1500 4DR,4x4 SLT Sport. The Chevy handled better, had much more power, did not bounce all over the road when I hit a bump, and got much better gas mileage. If I had it to do all over again, I would have gone back to a Chevy. I really like the new look and 4 doors of this vehicle but thats about it. The transmission is not geared as well as my old Chevy and just doesnt feel like a truck with a 360 in it.
Excellent Truck
So far this has been a great truck. I did notice quite a bit of rear wheel play on a bumpy interstate, but I also have towing package and 20" wheels. Great handling and superior build quality. Excellent fit and finish. I have owned Chevy's 1500 4x4 last 14 years, but this Dodge changed my mind on that.
I love it!!
I just want to tell eveyone that this is the truck of tommorrow today!!!!! It is great!!
Best Truck Yet
Performance is good, handling is excellent. The 4 wheel disc brakes are fantastic, the truck stops on a dime and the brake feel is firm and controlling. The doors are all double rubber sealed so she is quiet to ride in. The rack and pinion steering and the stiffer frame make the handling of the truck nice in corners and sudden moves. The truck sits up a littel higher than some and really like the visibility.
A great truck at a great price
I purchased a loaded Sport Ram 1500 4 door about 7 months ago and haven't regretted it in the least. The Ram gives me plenty of leg, head, and shoulder room. The interior is clean and uncluttered but full of useful storage space. This is my first Dodge but it won't be my last. The Dodge is my favorite full sized truck on the market, it is also one of the most affordable between Ford, Dodge, and Chevy. I could buy more truck for less money with a Dodge, and feel I got a superior product as well. Its heavy, safe, smooth, and dependable.
Perfect Vehicle for Me
I love this truck because it gives you the ability to haul stuff and/or people. Just this past week we had visitors in town and I can honestly say it fits six adults comfortably. Two days later I used it to haul an entire kitchen worth of cabinets. The 4.7 liter engine is a good trade-off between being powerful enough and economical. A few months ago we drove 1200 miles across country in this truck, it cruises down the highway very comfortably. The truck has about 60k on it and it made the 1200 mile drive home non-stop without trouble.
worst mistake of my life
Top speed flat out on the floor with no load 75 MPH. I shift down for every tiny little hill. Its the slowest doggiest vehicle I ever owned and for this lack of power I am rewarded with 17MPG. Dodge has managed to combine the power of a 2 liter with the gas mileage of a 360 cu.in.
The Overlook
I love every feature of this truck even the 20" Wheels,Its a great ride and gets alot of attention.
awesome!
this is one bad a** truck! inside, its a luxury car, outside, its big-rig styling that says "get the hell out of my way!" all in all, its an excellent vehicle in terms of reliability, overall design and build quality. wish they'd put the Hemi in soon though!
Bad Ass Flame Red Truck
Love this truck have always been Chevy Freak thought I'd give dodge a try. $5000 less than a Chevy and 0% fin. for 5 yrs. you can't beat it!!!!
Cool Truck, but I think I'll swap it.
Fun to drive, but has spent a fair amt of time in the shop (transaxle,A/C and other issues). Loves gas:13 mpg avg (and most of that is highway) which doesn't bother me. I just think I should be getting ALOT more power for that kind of mileage. Wife hates the rather tight back seat on long trips. So, I'm going to look at Nissan & Ford today.
Roomy
It seems to have the most room in the front for 2. I liked the dash/ stereo area compared to others. I wish 02' had lumbar support and the back doors could be a little bigger. Overall I still think it is the best looking truck on the road.
2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab 5.9
Runs good handles great so far we like it. However it has poor gas milage. Very good heating and A/C. Rides like a car. Also can fit our four-wheeler in the back of it.
We really like our truck.
We have immenseley enjoyed our truck. It has been problem free for 2 1/2 years except it needed a visor replaced. We tow occasionally and it does a great job towing. We have travelled with it and it makes for a very nice trip. The only complaint we really have is the paint on the truck can virtually no abuse. You barely touch it it seems and there will be a scratch. I really do wish they could somehow make a tougher paint that could withstand a small branch (for example) touching the truck and would not leave a scratch that has to be rubbed out. Other than that Dodge has agreat truck and would recommend it proudly to anyone.
Dont buy this truck
Where do i begin! Truck has constant shaking problems that the dealer claims they cant feel, windshield wiper flew off, stalling problems, two brake jobs before 30,000 miles, complete rear end overhaul, rear end jerks to the side when hitting bumps which makes highway driving fun when you have to do the two handed recovery, windows rattle when half way down, recalls, and finally the damn thing was stolen for those stupid 20" tires, I was praying for a torching but of course not!
Great Truck
Fun to drive, looks great. Handles very well. I have the V8 automatic ST.
More Than I Expected
purchased a base (ST) model with cloth seats and automatic transmission. This is one of those "the whole is more than the sum of the parts". I've Never owned a Dodge before, but the build quality, looks, drive, power, ride, equipment and price are far beyond what Ford, Chev and Toyota can offer.
Engineer's Review
I bought the truck for the ride, fit, and finish. Exterior and interior looks were not a factor, but a pleasant surprise to have this package wrapped so well. Outstanding ride, excellent engine/transmission match, comfortable for 5. Just turned 10,000 miles with no major problems. Best package for the $$ when compared to Ford and GM. 7/100 warranty a nice plus, but don't anticipate needing it.
2002 Reg Cab
Excellent Truck. Fun to drive
No Bowties
This is my 5th Dodge. This thing will pull the hinges off of the barn door and look great doing it. The ride is 100 times better than any "Z71" as you go around them in the mud to hook up the chains to drag them out. 90,000 miles so far and no problems. I tow a 31' travel trailer and it does the job. Mileage is 16-18 hwy, 15-16 combined 14-15 city, 7-11 towing (31' travel trailer)
Better than Chevy and Ford
I've had my Ram now for about 6 months. This is by far the best truck I've ever owned. I've always been a Chevy guy myself, but... after testing Chevy's 1500, Ford's F-150 and the Toyota Tundra, I decided to try the Dodge. I bought it that day. Tough, reliable, comfortable, stylish, it offers everything one would need in a pickup truck. I had never thought about buying the Dodge, but now, I'm telling everyone to buy one! This is the best truck I've ever driven (in my 27 years of driving) bar none. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.
Turns all the heads
I really enjoy this truck and exp the price that I got. I would have had to go up 8000 for a gmc and for i couldnt get them below 23 for a used one with 30k on it.
I love my truck!
I love my Dodge truck. It is fun to drive and is extremely dependable. It always starts on the first or second crank of the ignition, and it handles like a dream. I also love it because it sits up high off the ground so a person can see extremely well. It has a short turning radius, so tight corners are not a problem. Finally, I love its overall appearance. It just looks good!
So Far So Good
So far so good. I only have 800 miles on this truck. The interior room out beat Ford, Toyota, Chevy, and GMC trucks. Ive owned Fords since I was a kid and finally made a switch that was well worth it. Dodge was the only one with a 7 year, 100,000 mile warranty on the engine and drive train. That made my final decision.
Nice Truck
Just bought a Dodge Quad Cab, the truck is not bad. They design is awsome, the gas milage well if you want more then 18 miles to the gallon on the highway buy a ford or a Chevy. The engine is ok, you do not feel any lag when turning the ac on. You can get your motorcycle in it, with the gate down, and secure it just fine. The interior is not bad some of the fittings are cheep but over all the truck is solid.
#1 Truck
This is my first Dodge and I plan to stay with the dodge line. I like the way the truck drives and I love the way it looks on the road. I went with a 4 x 4 and the size of the truck makes me feel safe on the highway.
IF YOU CAN'T DODGE IT RAM IT!
A great looking truck with a reliable reputation, comfortable interior, slightly potent engine(CAN'T WAIT FOR THE 5.7L HEMI WITH 350HP),great work ethic and solid chassis and feel for the whole truck!
I Love My New Dodge, BUT
i love this truck, it has power, it sounds great with the new dual three chamber flow masters. but, the gas mileage could be improved greatly. but, what i hate the most, is the wind sound coming from the drivers side door.
constant problems with Transmission
we have had a new transmission put in and new computer and still have problems with transmission
Great refined Truck
This is one great Truck! It handling is far superior to any truck I have driven, I have a lot of fun following a mustang on a narrow mountain road and watching the expression on the driver in front of me when he has a heck of a time to get rid of me. I have loaded this truck to and beyond its load capacity and it has performed well as far as handling and power is concerned. As soon as you have the over drive off the annoying Down shift up shift cycle is avoided most of the time. Did I mention that it is huge inside? You have ample room and with a folding metal tray under the rear seats you have plenty of space to load whatever your heart desires.
Buy the 5.9L
The 2002 rams interior was nicer than the 2003, i owned both. Dodge cheaped out on the 2003. Seems to be more plastic. More plastic on doors, no overhead sunglasses holder, trim on bottom of doors is gone, no tinted window on 2003. Wish i would have stayed with the 2002. Anybody that says the 4.7L is a better choice than the 5.9L, never had one.
2002 Dodge Ram 1500 SB 6cyl Review
My 2002 Dodge P/U has 10k mile on it now and I have had it for about 9 months. I have no complaints about the vehicle at all. It is fun to drive, gets reasonable fuel economy (3.7L) averages 18.0 mpg. Clutching/shifting is easy and precise. Probably the biggest item of note is the excellent braking - very nice. The oil is easy to change and overall I just like it.
Gas Mileage?
Great vehicle hands down. First time Dodge owner and probably will buy again. The 5.9L needs more punch and gas mileage per cubic inch (willing to accept low MPG for more HP). Sport Package should come with header/exhaust system upgrade. The 4 speed Auto shift/downshift points need another look at (would be fine with beefier motor). CD player skips on bumpy roads. Excellent built vehicle, ride is comfortable, and room for everything.
No Complaints after 5 years
Bought when it first hit the lot. Had some problems with the speed sensor, but fixed. Still get 15+ MPG in city and 18-19 hwy. Replaced front and rear bumpers like all good Texans. Now it is a tank. Have had nothing but compliments on its looks and ride from friends and family. Hauled may loads of hay in Texas heat with no problems. Tows like there is nothing behind it. Could get better MPG but as said before it is a truck and one that even Tim Allen would be proud of.
