2018 Dodge Journey SXT 4dr SUV AWD (3.6L 6cyl 6A)

When you look at a vehicle in this class you are looking for okay looks, good inside room and access, decent handling and gas mileage, and perhaps throw in the third seat. This Medium Sized SUV has all of that, and my three previous Journeys had been very reliable and needed minimal maintenance until I turned each in, at around 70K miles. I must add that the first iteration had some issues with the brakes wearing out prematurely, and not being quite up to the task of stopping this vehicle. The transmission also failed catastrophically at 50K, but was replaced under warranty by Dodge with no questions asked. Since that initial stab at it, Dodge has done major improvements in enlarging the disc brakes and creating a much more dependable transmission! This car is priced right, looks great in the bright red finish, has AWD and I am leaving most other drivers in the dust when I take off from a start or need to speed up at highway speeds (within reason that is!). I usually drive around 25K miles per year, up to 85 miles MPH and this car is stable even in substantial winds, gets a bit over 21 MPG and I am happy with it. No backup camera in my version, which is a company car, but aside from that inconvenience, it has everything that I need. And the Stereo is really something to hear, great bass. All in all, a very nice package and not one that matches the online reviews that I have seen. Let's get realistic and realize that this car is very popular (at least in car happy SoCal!) and is a great deal!

Dodge Journey SXT FWD 2.4L

The Dodge Journey is truly an exceptional vehicle. My wife has the Dodge Journey Crossroad V6 AWD, and that vehicle is a workhorse. I saw how well the vehicle drove especially with a newborn and a toddler traveling on major highways and roads with no issues regardless of any inclement weather. We drove the car cross country, and to Canada, and didn’t feel tired at all. It was time for me to purchase a new vehicle, and I was always a Subaru guy, but I fell in love with the Journey. It has great handling, no road noise, very comfortable ride. Good visibility, and commanding driving position. Many hiding compartments, and very easy to clean (Turtle wax interior, and Turtle wax ICE on the outside). I give this vehicle a 100% coming from owing two previous Subaru Outback’s. Well done Dodge!

Great mid size SUV & low price

I wanted to downgrade from my Ford Expedition Limited, so I looked at the Chevy traverse, the Ford Explorer & even a Nissan Pathfinder. All of those were great SUV’s but the price wasn’t what I wanted to pay. I rented a Dodge Journey to drive from Boston to SC for my nephews graduation from boot camp. It handled so well, got great gas mileage & had enough room for myself & my 2 children 11 & 8. In June I seen a black Journey Crossroad AWD with black rims & all black interior for sale & had to go look at it. It was exactly what I was looking for. It was sporty enough that it wasn’t just a mid-size SUV that you see everywhere & it stood out unlike all the rest. The price was just what I was looking to spend because downsizing from a Expedition was hard enough & I wanted to be more realistic w/maintenance after the warranty is up. No it does NOT have ALL the bells & whistles like heated/cooling seats, all electric seats, electronic push button trunk, sensor backup camera or a sunroof BUT it has the bells which was perfect for me. Yes I would love to have all the above, I mean who wouldn’t right, but not for $10-$15k more. I have had my Dodge Journey Crossroad AWD for 4 months now & I must say it’s amazing. It suits my family’s needs & I still have plenty of room for my 11yr old sons hockey bag & 2 sticks. I would recommend this SUV to anyone who wants something NEW but half the cost of the other competitors w/the 3rd row if your able to be ok with only having the bells.

My wife and I had to by a new car. Since we have two kids (11&9) we wanted a small SUV. I did research and based on price and availability in our area and went to test out the 19 Ford Escape and 19 Jeep Renagade. They both seemed like fine cars, however, neither felt right. I saw a Black Dodge Journey and actually liked how it looked. But I remember looking at expert reviews online and the Journey was rated at the bottom. I decided to do more research on the Journey and also test drive it. We also test drove a Grand Cherokee for a class comparison. Online, the Journey was compared with midsized SUVs like the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Toyota Highlander so I felt it was only right to drive one and see the difference. When compared to the Grand Cherokee, the Journey was a lower standard SUV. The Cherokee had leather, a sun roof, and a larger touch screen and the Journey did not have leather or a sun roof and only a smaller touch screen. I also noticed that the online reviews of the Journey were for the 2.4L front wheel drive model and I test drove the 3.6L all-wheel drive model. It had the same engine as the Cherokee and drove very comparable, however, the Cherokee was a slightly better feeling ride. Another area the Journey received poor reviews was for compartment space. Since it has a third row, there is little room back there if the third row is used. However, we have no thoughts of using the third row and when laid flat, it has a ton of space. The tech is also behind the Cherokee but it still has more tech than any car I have owned. I do wish it had 1 thing, blue-tooth. When I compared the Journey to the Escape and Renagade, the Journey was much better in my opinion. I’m 37 so I like the look better since the Escape looks like a 20 year old Girls suv and the Renagade looks like a 20 boys suv. The Journey looks like a boring dad suv and that is exactly what I am. Lol. Not going to impress the guys at work but I am not worried about trying to compensate for anything. The price was almost the same as the two smaller suvs. We walked out of the dealer paying $24,000 for the V6 All-Wheel drive model. A few months in and we really like the Journey.

Our Journey has been a pleasant suprise!!! After reading the expert reviews and then reading the reviews that people who actually own them, the opinions are so different!!! I have no problem with the acceleration, even when fully loaded. There is plenty of room in the first 2 rows for adults. The 3rd row suitable for kids. The ride is awesome!!! The cabin is quiet and the steering makes it feel like a much smaller suv. Absolutely love this suv!!! Forget the experts!!!

Everyone who has driven or rode in my 2016 journey loves it. It is quiet, roomy, nice riding, and accelerates well (with the V6). I bought it almost specifically for the ease of entry and exit, but getting all the other benefits was great. As an example, we were looking for a new home and riding in the realtors 2010 Infinity SUV. I got tired of the heat and entry/exit difficulty with the Infinity and suggested we just use the Journey which we did. Everyone was much more satisfied. Infinitys suck. I think the only problem with a Journey is that it is a Dodge which has been around forever and people think foreign cars are better engineered. IT AIN'T SO!! It isn't all roses tho, the tires were crap (good for about 25K), and you have to remove the front tire to replace the battery. I replaced tires with Michelin and got a AAA battery and now the Journey is about perfect. I've got about 85K on the Journey now and look forward to 150-200K before I part with it. One last word of advice. You don't need AWD. This feature is much oversold in all cars. Much better to have good tires with lots of tread on them.

It is true that Dodge has not updated the Journey since 2011. It is true that it does not carry some of the new advanced electronics that it's competitors do. However, if you want an SUV for a great price, the Dodge Journey is the model of choice. SO far, I really like the Dodge Journey. It is comfortable to drive. It handles the road. My biggest recommendation is to get the optional V6 engine. You will thank me for that. I test drove the 4Cyl. version. It was very underpowered. The V6 is just right for this size vehicle. Overall, I recommend the Dodge Journey. Dealers have some phenomenal deals going on now.

I wanted a safe, affordable suv that was suitable for our three grandkids and practical for our lifestyle. I bought the 2018 Crossroad AWD in pitch black with black leather interior and black rims. It has the technology that I was hoping for and the third row that we needed. All three of our grandkids are required to sit in carseats. Two of them fit just fine in the third row while the smallest one fits rear facing in the second row. We are very happy that we went with the Crossroad. I can't wait to experience Maine's winter months in this car. If you're looking for a new car to tote kids around in and you're not ready to purchase a minivan, this is the car for you!

Dodge hasn’t changed the style of this model since it came out. For good reason, I think. It’s still a great looking car! We are coming from leasing a base model sorento, and the crossroad version is a huge upgrade for us. If you’re getting a Journey, get the crossroad edition. We sat in the SE and SXT and they’re not comparable. I also highly recommend the v6 with all wheel drive. We live where there’s regular snow and ice in the winter and it handles beautifully. The ONLY drawback so far is the low gas mileage (about 17 around town). But I’ll take it since everything else is a positive.

Purchased vehicle for my wife who is a traveling nurse. Her car is her office. This vehicle is roomy and reliable and gets the job done. Being a retired automotive professional and having been able to compare comparable vehicles throughout my career I can see why Dodge makes a quality vehicle. I disagree with all the negative reviews and can see through the biased comments. Mike Barse of Vann Dodge Jeep Ram Chrysler of Vineland New Jersey made my purchase experience an exceptional experience throughout. A real beauty of a inexpensive SUV !

Bought a used 2013 SE in 2016. It had been driven long and hard beforehand, but was very reliable. Then bought a new SE in 2017. Was very pleased with it, but the wife needs power driver's seat due to operation on her arm. We have gone back and just upgraded to a new 2019 Crossroad. Again we are very pleased. The low price, smooth ride, reliability, relative comfort, noise reduction, UConnect for the phone, rearview camera, Sirius XM and space all fit so very well with our needs.

I have had my journey for a year now I still love it as I did the day I bought it. If u family is on a budget and can’t afford a big expensive vehicle I highly recommend the Dodge Journey. I went from a 2001 Chevy Tahoe to a 2019 Dodge Journey all though it is not a power house I am used to I absolutely love this vehicle it drives smooth it is super easy on gas and it seats all my kids cause it has a third row. I love my Journey it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles some of them do but it is perfect for me. I am a very tall person and I can ride and drive my journey comfortably. I highly recommend the Dodge Journey to anyone especially if u r on a budget and need something new cause to me my journey is just as good as any other suv just dosnt have all the horses that is fine with me. I LOVE MY JOURNEY

Not very happy with my 2018 Journey, bought it brand new, within the first 4 months it was in the shop 4 different times trying to figure out a noise in the front end. They replaced shocks and 2 other items however over a year now it still continues. I recently just started having problems with something electrical as my radio will just turn the volume up to 40 as I'm driving down the road as well as now the fan for the air/heat in the back of the vehicle is turning all the way up on its own as I'm driving down the road! Not a happy customer!

So let me start by saying dodge is way behind the other companies. Originally went for a durrango but being 5'1 and the fact dodge is probably the only company that doesn't include power seats in a 2019 model its extra. So im left with the choice to buy the 50k model or pay 40k and get a booster seat..wtf so i looked into the journey the v6 gt is the best model available. It struggles to get up hills due to low horsepower compared to other suvs. Constantly find myself rolling backwards while driving. The software and accessories are dated due to the fact they havent given the body or computer an update ever. The 3rd row is very cramped for small children and trunk space is horrible. But it warms up quickly in the winter and does great in the snow. The floor storage is nice but very small. Built in booster seats are convenient, the back up camera is very accurate.Back window is a blindspot theres no chance of seeing out of it with passengers. So not sure if i'd buy this again theres alot of faults but i like it so far probably would never buy again unless they updated it

2018 SE Blacktop 2.4 is just right for us!

My wife has collapsed disks in her back. At the young age of 32 she suffers the back pain of people 20yrs her senior, and so driving a car was really hurting her The seats are just too close to the floor. On Valentine's day 2019, we traded our 2011 Camry XLE for a new 2018 Dodge Journey. Our Camry's work-of-art V6 was a rocket compared to the 2.4 world engine in the Journey. However we have had several Kia and Hyundai vehicles powered by various vintages of that engine and knew what to expect from it. A 0-60 time of 9.5 seconds may be "slow" by 2019 standards, but it's plenty quick enough for the rural area of Ohio we live in. Our Journey is a left-over 2018. It is a base SE, with the backup camera (standard in 2018+), the blacktop package, and the Bluetooth/Satellite and Leather Steering wheel package. It's window sticker was $25.5k, and with all of the rebates we received from FCA, and Ganley motors in London, OH; the car's price was just $18,500! We have had the car for only a month, but first impressions are good. Interior quality is descent and except for accelerating, the engine noise is well subdued. The 4-speed is ancient, but the torque converter is pretty high stall, and allows the engine to review fairly freely to make the most of it's modest output. All in all its performance is not much different than the 2011 Kia Sorento 2.4 we used to have as well, and that SUV had a six speed auto. The car is black, and with the tinted windows, and blacktop package, admittedly it looks much more expensive than it is, but best of all the seating angle is higher than our old Camry, and my wife hurts much less as she drives all over the state for her job, and that is most important to me anyway. Everything else is just an added win! Fuel economy could be better, but 22-23mpg combined isn't awful either.

Plenty of front seat headroom and legroom for larger drivers. Third row seating is great if you have to drive a bunch of kids around. There are two built-in coolers under the back seat floor mat, each of which can hold a 12 pack, for long trips. Power and handling are not great, but adequate for getting from point A to point B. I have been getting about 28 mpg on the highway with the 2.4L 4-cylinder engine. No problems so far.

Purchased 2018 Dodge Journey Crossroads with all the extra features. Drove great during test drive; nice looking car for the price tag. The first week of owning the car, the power steering and acceleration went out while driving on two separate occasions. The car was still under factory warranty but Dodge found no problems. We have read countless similar stories. Due to the vehicle being a major safety issue we bought another car two weeks later. We only drove the car one week and we were given 4k negative equity. Stay away, Dodge Journey is a nightmare car. Wish we never crossed paths.

We recently bought this car with only 10,000 miles on it. This car doesn't have all the bells and whistles, only a 4 cyl but the fuel mileage is great. No electric seats but I found something interesting on it that probably few people know about. There is a handle on the side of the driver's seat that when pumped will raise the level of the seat. I was lamenting not having this feature a few days before I found this. Now I am happy with this car. Unlike electronic buttons, this will probably work a lot longer.

Dodge is turning a quick buck on this baby! I have the basic model and they went too far; moreover, it was like the stripped it when they built it in Mexico. #1 on the motor they no longer put the cover on the top of motor. #2 They managed to make the front passenger seat so it will not fold down flat ( forward)for long cargo! #3 the digital interface for the speedometer looks like they forgot to finished it with a small digital display for the speed and arrows that stay permanently on, of instead of say a four inch display its closer than less than three inches. #4 DO NOT pull out in front of any moving vehicle because it has the speed of a slug with salt, I think it is the transmission or the computer system, but if you think you are going to floor the gas pedal it will not move very fast. #5 the standard radio is NOT interchangeable with any radio at your local store and I was quoted at best buy over seven hundred for the face plate or in this car the whole front console; moreover, a good blue tooth radio is only a few hundred but you have to buy the console so you are looking a close to a Grand!

The vehicle is a pleasure to drive with the sport steering and suspension, and very strong 283 hp V6 and automatic stick.

Not a reliable car, this is the 2018 journey I traded in and it didn’t do so bad until like 50 thousand miles… then I had to constantly replace the battery and the camshaft position sensor, now at 89,885 miles I had to get rid of it I loved the car I wish I didn’t have to part with it but it wasn’t very reliable. I just traded it in for a 21 traverse which is a huge upgrade, other than the low quality speakers. Over all except for reliability it was a good car decent power, comfortable, and fuel efficient.

Had my car for 3 month 2019 brand new car, got out from the dealership with 4 miles. not even 2 months later and i was already having issues with it. September 22.2019 my car got flooded, my insurance paid most of it and GAP refuse to pay the rest of the car. I do NOT recommend using or refinance with Chrysler Capital

I purchased a brand new 2018 Dodge Journey in December of 2018. It only had 3 miles on it when I purchased it. I did All my scheduled maintenance and oil changes on time. Now the vehicle has 150,000 The interior and body are in excellent shape. However the engine is gone. I purchased the vehicle for 26,000 and I owe 10,600 and the engine is gone. My warranty has expired and I was told it will be 4,700 for a used engine and about 2,000 to put it in. That will bring me up to close what I owe on it. For starters Dodge put a 4 cylinder engine in a 7 passenger SUV. I always said the engine was too small for the car. This is the worst vehicle I have ever owned. I will never buy another Dodge again. Oh BTW I use to be a Dodge guy until I got this vehicle. Never Again!!!!

My journey has 250k kms in it 2018 crossroad awd. And I've probably spent the most money on tires. Some strut repair due to my gravel driveways having potholes that's about it

So far the car is pretty good. No failures, but it is a new car. Auto shifter doesn't seem to work that great when going down steep inclines. Dealership jumped the price after I settled on a price, then they fired the salesman. If nothing breaks in 5 years I'll rate it higher.

WORST CAR I HAVE EVER HAD!

DenverMama, 03/07/2025

I bought this car with low miles (48,000) and within less than a year it spent MONTHS in the dealer repair shop. I was the second owner, there were no issues when I bought it, mostly drove it on the highway, maintained it, frequent oil changes. I had to get an entirely new engine, and a new starter, the check engine light came on often, and then I had to have transmission work done, and oil housing replaced. After all of that, I thought I would be good to go, and I was wrong, leaking transmission fluid on the radiator, causing smoke, and the windshield wiper hoses kept disconnecting to wash both the front and back windshields. This car has been nothing but a problem. Every time I have taken it in to get repaired, auto techs tell me to get rid of it, that they have nothing but problems with this car, and they see people constantly coming in for repairs. As a mom, I do not feel safe driving this car and it is definitely not dependable.
