This van is the bomb!

We've purchased this van brand new in 2006. It has over 117,000 miles in it! Other than the interior cosmetic issues such as flimsy cup holders and shortage on the automatic windows and lights in the front- in terms of its reliability, it's great as it has never left us stranded anywhere we've been! My kids grew up riding in it and we have all loved it! No transmission or engine issues so far! We're hoping to another 100,000 miles in it!

Convenient, Practical & Comfortable for 10+ years

This is our third Dodge/Chrysler minivan (over a 23 year span) and this one will always be my favorite. It's a shame they don't make 'em like this anymore. The seats are super comfortable. The Stow & Go seating is amazing. The sound system is high quality and better than some of the newer vehicles. We've moved our oldest kids in and out of college hauling everything in the minivan (without ever having to rent a uhaul). We've traveled ( 5 people) all across the country comfortably with plenty of room for luggage, water skis - you name it. We've hauled washers & dryers, furniture, etc. One of the few issues we've had is with the automatic doors - we've had to have them repaired twice when the lock buttons were stuck (had the actuators were replaced). Other than the replacing the actuators, the maintenance & repairs costs were lower than average. It will be sad day when it's time to part with my van.

We traded in our 2002 Grand Caravan for the 2006 Grand Caravan. We were very pleased with the '02 but this van with its Stow n Go seating is far superior. The seats work easily. If you do not have Stow n Go you will be amazed how frequently you use them. We use them every day. easy to use and can fold all seats within a minute. Have not had any major problems with the van at all. The van has made three trips to Florida and South Carolina (from NJ) and it is very comfortable. The storage wells for the middle row seats make a great storage area for snacks and things. There really is a lot of room in this van. Rides like a Cadillac on the highway. Easy to drive with great visibility.

I grew up on MoPar station wagons of the ‘50s & ‘60s and bought of the very first Grand Voyagers in ‘87; put 100k on that one and got a ‘91 and put over 100k on it. Had some tranny work under warranty on both but loved ‘em. I bought this well-kept 2006 EXT in July 2015 with 110k on it after I’d put 250k on a Chevy Venture and am now approaching 150k. I’ve had the following Annoyances: both sliding door locks failed within a week of each other. I replaced them myself for $35 each by watching YouTube videos. Rear lift gate struts weak when cold; cheap to replace and easy install. Front sway bar bushings worn out; $15 Moogs which I’ll install someday. Very noisy power steering pump after running at speed for more than 15 minutes; I’ve expected it to fail for the last 15-20k but it just keeps whining along. The a/c compressor is also getting noisy. Each will be shop-replaced when it finally fails. For a US-built minivan, I don’t consider this abnormal; all my other vehicles are Toyotas so I know the tradeoffs. The underlying design and performance of the MoPar minivans is as good or better than Honda’s and Toyota’s versions and of course these MoPars depreciate much faster, making them much cheaper to buy used. I’m an educated consumer who helped a used car dealer evaluate and buy hundreds of cars at wholesale after I retired from practicing law. The reputation of MoPar minivans among used car dealer professionals isn’t bad, though they do build some bad ones. I treat mine as my covered pickup truck and jack of all trades and likely will run it another 100k. A friend who does not keep her cars very well has one of these with 260k on its original powertrain and counting. Oddly enough given all the hooha over these trannies, most all of the dozens and dozens I drove in my used car days were like butttaah. Honda’s minivan trannies were viewed as worrisome by the wholesale buyers once over about 120k, FWIW. 6/2019 update: now at 175k. Had alternator replaced as it got very noisy. Changed the radiator myself. Dipstick broke so I changed that. Annoyingly, changed front struts, then sway bar links (one of them twice) and sway bar bushings and front suspension still “clunks” over bumps. Just had a shop do a full tranny flush/service/BG for me. They also fixed the wiring to the left front SRS impact system that had thrown the SRS code. I also impressed myself by changing all the plugs, plug wires and coil packs, which cleared a misfire code. Currently I occasionally get a self-clearing “less than peak efficiency” that illuminates under light loads. I run Walmart High-Mileage 10W-30 full synthetic oil and Fram ToughGard 16 filters changed at the factory 6k, and add LiquiMoly molybdenum additive at each change; about every 4th change I also add their Ceratec ceramic additive to reduce internal wear etc. Can’t hurt, might help. Oh, and the power steering pump still protests during/after sustained high-speed runs, but the Lucas fluid keeps it truckin’. In short, I love this van and expect another 100k out of it, easy. 12/19 update: my van now lives in Chicago vs VA as we spend half our time there helping care for a granddaughter. The suspension clunking proved to be just the upper strut retaining nuts. I decided to bite the bullet and had the cat converter replaced to get rid of the recurring CHECK ENGINE codes, since I plan to run this van til it drops. Added an aftermarket remote start system for VA summers and it sure is nice. The power-steering pump is generally quiet now. I’m tending to the first signs of rocker-panel and tailgate rust, as one sees a lot of Mopar vans with serious body rot. Nice to have a versatile, reliable carryall that is done depreciating. 6/2020 update: Now at 186.1k. COVID complications caused the termination of this van’s ChiTown life when we vacated our apartment there on 4/30/20 and headed home to Williamsburg VA full-time. My wife drove the van behind the moving truck I was driving. The power steering pump no longer protests long, hard runs; I think the refills with Lucas over time had a cumulative favorable effect. The General Altimax 43 tires are wearing well, ride smoothly and provide very secure handling in heavy rain. The replacement cat converter mentioned above wasn’t hung properly and vibrates against the rear underbody at certain rpms and especially when the ban is nose-high. I need to get it back over there now that it’s home. Other than that maintenance issue, Zorba the Van motors on. I’d drive it anywhere, any time. It’s one of the “good ones.” 12/2020 update: 194k and still going strong. Just had some Gabriel Hijackers installed so I can carry a heavy Thule hitch rack for two heavy e-bikes; raising the rear about 3” also keeps the rear muffler from vibrating against the rear underbody. In a couple weeks, Zorba will get towed behind our RV for 3-4 months in St Pete. Next oil change@ 200k. June 2022 update: Zorba the Van rolled 200k on 3/31/21 and now has 228.5k. Paid $550 to have the front pads and rotors changed in St Petersburg rather than doing it myself because they did it in under an hour and it woulda taken me a day or two. As I approach my 75th birthday, I’m losing my appetite for labor-intensive tasks. But Zorba soldiers on! In one 7-day period (3 driving days) I drove him 2,560 miles, getting about 21 mpg cruising with the traffic at 75-80. Last week we did an 800-mile round trip from VA to SC and back. Outside temps ran 100-102 but the temp gauge rode right on its usual mark. The power steering pump was noisy at fuel stops so I need to get a turkey baster and do a suck-out-and-replace drill to freshen the Lucas ps fluid in the tank. In normal temps it’s quiet even at speed. I’ve enjoyed renting Pacificas on trips and have logged about 2k in them. But Zorba has appreciated a bit and fits us like a glove. And I’d drive it coast to coast without a concern. 12/2022 update: 237k and going strong! Exhaust system still buzzes against the body under certain conditions and it throws off occasional cat codes under light loads, which I clear after checking. Zorba needs an alignment and a set of tires sometime soon. Only new annoyance is the front blower fan sometimes fails to wake-up on engine start. Eventually it does. Changed a relay but that didn’t help. Probably the motor is tired.

I bought my caravan 4 years ago with 116k miles , only replaced a strut , an alternator brakes and tires. Still runs like new , cold a/c and seems It will pass the 300k mile mark easy. I am the second owner , parts are cheap , I work at LKQ , a low mile engine cost about $650 a tranny $350.00 , I seen other ford , Nissan , Toyota and chevy minivans give up with a lot less miles than mine, The vast majority of caravans that we have in our yards are because they are totaled in a major wreck. The other brands land here because they break down and parts are very expensive.

Horrible Reliability - Never Buy Dodge Van

Nothing but non-stop issues design flaws, poor quality and mfg'd parts, and multitude of issues. Interesting, when you talk to all the auto shops - which plz take the time to do, they tell you they see this EVERY day with Dodges. After 55k miles, transmission completely went out - which was a $3k repair, dealership would have been $5k. With less than 85k miles still - have already replaced the front left CV joint, replaced alternator, front passenger window regulator, passenger sliding door lock actuator, rear hatch lift gate assembly motor/arm and also shocks, oil pan seal, and more. Bottom line, Dodge vans are total POS and will never buy one again.

Bought this van new in 2005, has been a great hauler for grandkids and big stuff. In 80000 miles, it went thru 3 sets of front brakes and 2 sets of rear brakes, the original tires lasted 28000 miles. Cooer GS4 have lasted 52000 mi. in the last year the sliding doors have decided to rust on the bottom and the rear fender wells have also started. The 3.8 motor has used a quart of oil every 1500 miles since 47000 mi. replaced the turn signal switch 2 times. Final thing the driver side spring broke the other day, never had a car do that. very dangerous. with the rust not sure it's worth repairing. Worst of 4 vans. As of 12/15/2016 Still driving a Toyota, wouldn't have another Chrysler , if they gave it to me. Will have another Toyota some day when this one wears out.

While returning to our home from an out-of-town gathering we stopped about 50 miles from home for refreshments. When we got back in the car the headlights failed to work. Using the flashers only we managed to find a motel for the night. The next day we returned home to find a dealer that did absolutely nothing to help us out. I'm very disappointed in both the vehicle and the dealership. By the way, the vehicle has less than 5000 miles on it.

Bought used with 36,000 miles. It now has 44,000 . Both auto doors went out about a week apart. Lift gate will not stay open. Power driver seat stopped working. Breaks are way under sized for the weight of the vehicle and need to be replaced. I get a slight shutter and wine when turning. It was hard to start in the cold weather. I do like the stow n go seats but they are a but of a chore to stow them. The value for it has dropped so much that I cant even trade it in. No one wants it including me!

The seats are positioned to view the road easily. The seat sits upright, which helps me keep alert and on task. This vehicle is easy to enter and exit, which is my daily favorite thing about owning these vans. Even though the kids are gone, all ten, I still love it's versatility. I haul almost anything, inside or on top. I enjoy road trips, very similar to my college days, only with an air mattress in the rear. It towed my tent trailer for camping, and my utility trailer for neighborhood garbage runs and home improvement projects. It's a joy to pick up friends for church activities, take neighbors to senior events or grocery shopping. These Vans were made for me to share!

My Grand Caravan met an ungrand ending a few days ago (we were hit) and I'm already searching the net for it's twinkie. It was by far the best, most reliable "car" I've driven. My only complaint would be that a sensor went out around 50,000 that would not allow one of the side doors to close with the click of the auto key. It was $350 to fix, so we made due and got used to it. I also had a problem with the turn signal that would not work, it was covered under warranty. We have five children and really liked the stowing capacity. It was also very comfortable for long trips. (I say that as a driver. 3rd seats not as comfy - but that is true with most vans.)

My husband has worked for General motors for 31 years, and felt very guilty even looking at a Dodge! (At least it is American made). But this mini van had everything we were looking for that we couldn't find in a GM van. We love the stow and go seating, that was the main selling point, along with the auto sliding doors and tail gate and the three zone climate control. This all comes in handy with our two large labs. The van is much quieter than our previous Chevy and the ride is very smooth.

I just traded in my van with 88K miles for a 2012 Honda CRV. This was my 3rd Dodge van and Dodge should be embarrassed by the quality. I will no longer purchase a Chrysler product. Issues: Head gasket, Water pump, Steering rack (I was told I now need anther one) Valve covers needed new seals, Tie rods on both sides, Power side doors - one does not work and the other needs replacement motor, Air Conditioning - Dodge paid for part of the repair because issue was the design with mis-matched metals that causes leaks, Van is rusting and dealer repaired under warranty but not all rust issues, ignition harness, starter - I have no more space but more issues!!

Got it as from a dealer who bought it at a fleet auction. Former rental. Changed oil, and that's it. Had it for about 10,000 miles now with no problems whatsoever. The Stow 'N Go space versatility is tremendous, with nothing really comparable in the market. ALL THE SEATS FOLD FLAT INTO THE FLOOR. I had a 1995 Caravan and I almost killed myself moving those seats in and out for when I needed to carry stuff. I swore I'd never buy another minivan until all the seats folded into the floor. Abacadabra!

This is our second Dodge van, the first one a 2003 we tried to save money on and bought the Caravan SXT with no features. Never had any trouble with this van at all and really liked it. Until all the incentives came out and we upgraded for less money to the Grand Caravan. If you have kids, upgrade. You won't be sorry. Convenient hooks for grocery bags all over the place. 3 zone control. I never wanted a minivan, now I wouldn't be without it, kids or no kids. For the money, I don't think you will find a better deal. Started buying Dodge products 4 years ago and I have yet to schedule a service call. Sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes products are just that good?

Reasonable Entry Cost But Failures Abound

The 2006 Grand Caravan was my third Grand Caravan, so I can't say that there is no appeal to the vehicle. When Grand Caravans are in their first couple of years of service they are a joy. They are relatively inexpensive when compared to a Honda Odyssey. The seats fold flat to provide an unparalleled cargo area. This baby hauls sheets of plywood or drywall with the tailgate closed. It lugs around a large family too. Chrysler's design is just not up to the challenge of doing these chores over and over year in and year out. Chrysler designed the vehicle to warn drivers when the sliding doors open by activating the flashers and to protect parents from forgetful children who file out and leave the door open with the cabin light on. The power to all lights and accessories turns off after 15 minutes, protecting the battery from discharge (best family feature ever). As others have reported, the Grand Caravan has a poor power steering design. In cold weather in particular it is prone to clogging and starving the power steering pump. Mine failed at 30,000 miles. The whining pump noise returned at 100,000 miles whenever the temperature outside was in the single digits. The air bag system failed at 11,000 miles and again at 50,000. The passenger sliding door developed a rattle at about the 60,000 mile mark and the door lock solenoid failed. Grand Caravans develop lots of rattles as they age and the suspension needs rebuilding. There were a steady stream of failures that ended when the coolant leaked out just months after replacing the radiator, water pump and hoses causing the engine to overheat and throw a rod. After less than nine years and 129,000 miles the vehicle had to be recycled. The cost of ownership worked out to $290.00 per month to own the Grand Caravan when I reviewed my repair expenses. This vehicle is likely to nickel, dime and thousand dollar you to death. Edmunds asked me to update this review today,12-28-16. I have little to add except maybe not to be exclusive of this brand when it comes to aging poorly, especially in the harsh environment of the Upper Midwest with sub-zero weather and highly corrosive road salt. All cars are more tightly engineered today to last about 8 years or 150,000 miles. If I were to buy a Dodge again, it would be a low mileage used one that I would sell promptly at the 50,000 mile mark.

This van is really not that terrible. It does have it's faults. I am going to list the issues we currently have as of 120k miles: 2 broken locks, door trim has fallen off, terrible squeaking noise, A/C broke 3 times, heating won't work, cup holder has fallen off the seat, rear windshield wiper won't work, and the van "screams" when it goes through puddles. The suspension is way too bouncy and harsh for my liking. When you go over a bump, it feels like a roller coaster. The van has slowly died over it's time and is starting to fall apart. We are planning on getting a Nissan Rogue, Jeep Patriot, Ford Escape, etc for the next car. The workmanship of this vehicle is not really that great. It truly isn't a terrible van, it just has a few significant faults.

Drives well. Love the Stow N Go. Power doors sometimes will not respond not enough so the dealer would think I was not crazy. Cup holders placed on sides of seats where kids can forget them and step on them thus breaking them. Floorboard creaks a bit,squeeks..whatever. The carpet in 3rd row actually looks bowed down a bit as if giving. But it drives and handles well.

I started out leasing this van because of what I heard about Chryslers' reliability and (at the time) corporate stability. That was 40 months ago. My lease ran out last month, and I bought the van. Why? I haven't had any significant trouble with the van in 30k miles. It's overkill for a 1 person commute but it is excellent for carpooling and family vacations. When we travel (fam of 4) we put down 1/2 rear seat for the cooler. My son brings his playstation and plays it through overhead video & wireless headphones. Tip: the middle seats are much more comfortable if you put up the headrests. Noticed slight mpg bump with K&N filter. Though lower horsepower than competitors, it's plenty.

Had this van since 35k miles, now has 89k miles. It has been a very reliable van for our family. middle and 3rd row seats aren't as comfortable as i would like (I think it's b/c they have to fold flat into the floor). Love that they fold flat, makes it a very multipurpose vehicle (can hold lots of "stuff" or people or both). Brakes were replaced but they still squeak, more of a brake manuf. issue than a Dodge issue. Had a Chevrolet Uplander before this van and the Uplander was ALWAYS in the shop for something. Have been really pleased with the Dodge Grand Caravan's reliability; plan to keep it for a long time.

We purchased this van new with only 6 miles on it. It has done us very well. Took it on a 1500 mile road trip and the mileage was around 23, and that is fully loaded with luggage and 6 people on board. The passenger side door failed and got a new motor. The DVD system failed and dealer replaced the complete head unit. The van is great and will buy another one. Looked at the Toyota/Honda both and the Dodge came out on top, and it is American! Power is very smooth and linear. The sunroof had a small issue and needed new motor. Seems like a lot of issues in a short time, but again a well worhty Mini-Van!

I've had my van now for two years and have LOVED every minute of it. It great on trips, roomy, comfortable, easy to handle. I am now, after almost 2 years to the date, running into small problems. Air conditioning blows hot air, water pump is leaking and window motor needs to be replaced. It's all under warranty. So far, it's been great. It will be interesting to see what happens after the warranty. I hope it holds up.

My wife still loves this van. The kids are grown but she wants to keep this van as long as we can. She puts all her props for plays and garage sales finds in the van. With the seats down it is amazing what you can transport. We get about 19 miles to the gallon around town. It has comfortable seating even on a long drive. Knock on wood, but no mechanical problems to date.

Bought used in 2009 and started to rust badly around the wheel wells about a year later. It was still under warranty, so they repaired it, but it came back in the same place. They repaired it again and it came back yet again in the exact spot they "repaired." It is now out of warranty and the dealership won't return our calls. We contacted Chrysler and for the past 2 weeks, they have been "looking into it." The only other issue we have is that driver side passenger door sticks/jams upon opening. Overall, it seems to be mechanically solid. However, the rust issue is serious enough that we are looking at getting rid of it. And we will NEVER purchase a Chrysler product again.

I was so impressed with the overall performance and comfort of the vehicle. It is superior to any other similar van I have owned or driven in. It has been such a pleasure to drive, has excellent visibility and great acceleration on the freeway. Best of all is the stow and go feature, it has been a real asset. The vehicle is nicely fitted with amenities that you get wonderful luxury and don't have to rob a bank. I looked at other vans including Toyota and Honda, and this van is in their class no doubt about it. The audio system controls in the steering column was a very nice feature to add as well.

I bought my Grand Caravan brand new in 06. I now have 108,000 on it. I have just replaced the radiator and a water pump about 10,000 miles ago. We had to change a sensor out at about 90,000 miles. Other than those things this van has been great. Stow and go seating is awesome. I have never been stranded in this vehicle. You will always have to replace some parts here and there but I know this caravan has many more miles to go.

My friends warned me about Chrysler products, but I ignored them. BOY, I was wrong, at 30,000 miles steering was vibrating intensely when cold accompanied by a loud whine. The dealer and Dodge online said tough luck, you bought a lemon and this is the power steering reservoir clogged, a cheap fix. Before considering buying a Chrysler product, you have to ask yourself what kind of car manufacturer screws up power steering. One that ENGINEERS their products to FAIL. I never owned a vehicle with a power steering problem except for the 2 Caravans I bought. I not own this one when the trans fails, and it will, like the other Caravan I owned. I will NEVER BUY ANOTHER CHRYSLER PRODUCT.

i bought this van on 5-25-2019. i knew full well this van needed a makeover on the interior and exterior and engine. this slow sluggish van weighs 4400 lbs and i can feel all of its weight. i started to work on the exhaust and engine. i drilled half inch holes on the back of the two mufflers and i added a fuel magnet. i felt the improvement on engine performance but i needed more performance to make it worth my driving experience. i then added a kln air filter and shazam the van now performs even better. i am able to keep up with traffic or pass it. the 3.8 ltr engine came with 215 hp and 263 ftlbs of torque. i am guessing i added an extra 15-20 hp. this is a really big difference. i will then add iridium spark plugs or bosch plus 4 plugs for an additional 10 hp. this van is now fun to drive and the miles per tank and mpg has increase by at least 5mpg and 50 miles more per tank.

My wife felt she needed a van to haul the kids in, she now can not wait to get rid of the thing. It has to have tires replaced too often, brakes are poor design and undersized, causing often replacement. Both power slide doors had to have motors replaced under warranty, passenger side motor has failed again and I am not paying to replace. The transmission shifts vary hard. Front suspension joints had to be replaced at 45,000 miles. ABS control module fried at 47,000 miles. The heat is always on unless you turn the fans off, good thing it is winter now. Fuel economy is less than impressive, and if anyone is wondering, neither one of us drive fast or push the vehicle hard.

Wow, what an upgrade from our SUV. This is out first minivan and Diamler vehicle. We looked at the Odessey, Sienna and Venture and felt the Dodge Grand Caravan offered more features per dollar than any of its competitors. We have a growing family and this car caters to our three children with space galore. We'd buy another one in a heart beat. Also the $3,500 cash back was nice.

With 2 little ones, I like the convenience of the van for getting them in and out of their car seats. We were in a BAD accident on the highway and were safe because we were in it. BUT once the warranty expired on it, stupid little things started to go- The wipers got tripped up on each other during a bad storm (mechanic says this is common), EGR valve went, Trip computer blips out intermittently. Feel like i am waiting for something big to go...not sure what van we buy next. ,

I bought the car and left Detroit immediately, hoping there would be no issues which needed dealer attention. There were none. I enjoyed the drive to Mexico with it. It is so spacious. It has good pick up when passing. The seats are comfortable. I got excellent gas mileage on the highway, sometimes exceeding 28 mpg on the flat road conditions in Texas and Arizona.

I have had this mini-van for 18 months and have been very pleased with it except for the gas milage which is only 14 city and 21 highway. Also the anti-lock brakes did not work for the first year that I owned the vehicle. I was not aware of it but the dealer found the defect when I took it in for it's second oil change. Something had been assembled incorectly at the factory.

Joy to own. A very comfortable ride, and a very versatile vehicle with Stow N Go seating. 24 MPG on trips and about 20 MPG. Captain chairs in the middle were new for us but definitely an asset. With the larger V6 we have no trouble going up most hills in overdrive. With rear air the vehicle stays cool. While we don't use the power doors and liftgate all the time but they are a great option. Even with the seats up there is a great deal of room for cargo either behind the back bench seat or in the floor area in front of the middle seat. Have had the vehicle for 8 months without any problems.

The 1300 mile drive to Georgia and back was a plesant driving experience. We found out first hand about its handling capability as far as manuvering around road debris. We had to swerve around large chunks of tires a couple of times and didn't feel the least bit uncomfortable as far as feeling like we might roll over or lose control. Excellent in my book. We plan on several trips to Georgia and back, and look forward to doing it in this vehicle.

Just switched from a 2005 Sienna to 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. The Caravan has much more torque making it more responsive in normal driving, brakes are far better, excellent handling. Feels like a relatively nimble mid size sedan. Surprising to look behind and see how large the interior is. Lots of open space in the cabin is great for holding stuff and allowing easy movement within the cabin. Build quality appears to be excellent. Much better choice than a Sienna. Sienna is all hype. Gas mileage on the Caravan although rated 18/25 has been better than the Sienna rated 19/26.

This is the family's first van and Dodge vehicle. We love the ride especially the comfort on our road trips with two kids and dog. We plan to have another child so we don't have to worry about room because there is plenty. We are certainly impressed w/ the quality of this vehicle. The gas mileage is much better than our Explorer, which we traded for this car. We looked at other brands and felt we were getting more for our money with Dodge. What made it even more attractive was the fact that it uses regular fuel and not premium like some of the other brands. We might the right choice with this pruchase.

After only 65,000 km (40,000 mi) it uses 2 liters of oil between changes! Chrysler service mgr. told me I was checking it wrong! Then said that if it were using that much oil, you wouldn't be able to see behind the car for smoke! Then he said it is common for a car to use a liter every 1000 km! All this in a 5 minute conversation! The head light module has been replaced, as have most of the front end components. Seats are uncomfortable and suspension is mushy! Have already done first brake job! Guess I shouldn't compare it to my 1996 with 323,000 km (200,000 miles)! Thank god I didn't trade it! At least I have 1 good car! Also the /06 only gives 19 to 20 mpg as compared to the /96 at 28 mpg.

Back in July of 2006, we bought a Dodge Grand Caravan, dumb move, it was terrible, we hated it! The ride was rough, seats were uncomfortable, visibility was awful, and we only got an average of about 13 mpg! Not good enough with these soaring gas prices. So after 13 months, we traded it in for a Kia Rondo, much much better.

Bought our van new in late '05. Was perfect the whole time it was under warranty. As soon as we ticked past 36K everything went to heck and FAST! EGR valve, water pump, power sliding door motors, transmission is slipping, burns up tires and brakes, and the icing on the cake is that last year it starting burning a quart of oil every 1000 miles! Now a year later, it has used to a quart every 500 miles! What a joke! We are trading it off in a few weeks and will never buy another Chrysler/Dodge product again! I am so disappointed in this van. We had planned on keeping for a long long time and now are forced to go look for another vehicle. The re-sale value is crap as well.

Vehicle was running perfectly until engine started dying randomly. Sometimes it would start right back up. Sometimes it wouldn't start for days. Other times, it would start back up 20 minutes later. Brought it to a shop that told me it needed a tune up. $500 later it still had the same problem. (No refunds on unneccesary repairs however). Next they replaced the the cars main computer. Nope. Not that either. So $1000 or so in and no solution. I brought it it to the dealership thinking maybe they'd have a better idea of what to do. They called me and told me it was fixed. I went to pay them their $500 and pick it up. Vehicle wouldn't start. Did I mention that shops don't give refunds on repairs that don't fix the problem. They told me that maybe they could try replacing the connector to the pcm (main computer) for ..... another $240! Nice. I respectfully declined as I now believed they were just crap shooting. I finally started reading forums and found that this exact problem is common with the grand caravan. The worst case scenario being that the wiring harness shows no sign of damage but the wires underneath ARE in fact damaged. A new wiring harness and installation would cost in the multiple thousands of dollars. However, being in denial that a perfectly running car could be sent to the junkyard because of something like this, I parked it in a garage for a couple years. I finally ran into a a shop that almost exclusively fixes fleet grand caravans for medical and handicap transportation companies. He assured me he could fix it. $700 dollars later, it actually did drive perfectly for a couple days. Unfortunately, on about the third day I was driving it, it started dying again. At first, it would start right back up. After several die outs and restarts that day, it finally wouldn't start again. I called a cab and about 5 minutes before the cab arrived , it started. However , it was late at night and I didn't want to cancel cab only to have the car die 5 minutes later. I went back to restart it a couple times over the next few weeks. I didn't bother to drive it , as I didn't trust it and didn't have time for adventures. I finally went back a few days ago and spent a couple days trying to get it started to no avail. I have now given it away as a parts car. If you find your caravan having this type of problem, DO NOT waste your money. Just get rid of it. I spent probably more than I've listed here and even if I had gotten the car to be reliable again, it would have been worth $1200-1500. I would not recommend buying a used caravan because of the possibility of that this could happen. Problems that can be fixed are tolerable, but dodge in general is known for these types of mystery electrical problems that send vehicles to the junk yard. I highly doubt that I will ever buy another dodge vehicle ever.

The van has a much improved and quieter ride over our 2000 Chrysler Gr VoyagerSE model. 3.8 V6 is very smooth and gets better gas mileage than the 3.3 V6. We looked at several Dodge/Chrysler vans before settling for this one. Build quality in terms of fit and finish seemed suspect with some of the vans. This one however had none of those negative traits. Great van at a great price Sure resale value isn't there, but I don't trade that often, so resale value isn't an issue for me. I would buy again.

I decided to trade my old van for the 2006 because of the stow n go seats. I am leasing the van with all intentions of keeping the van when the lease is up. I should have kept my old vehicle. I had complained twice about the odor I get when I turn on the defrost or a/c and I have been told there is nothing wrong. I had to have the back a/c unit replaced because of leaking, the part was on back order and had to wait 2 months which was during the hottest time of the season. The motor on the passenger side window had to be replaced, the window would not go up during a rain. Now the left passenger side door will not slide open when I press the button, I have to manually open the door.
