Fun to drive - when working
Love to drive this van, especially on long trips. Can get 24mpg at 70mph. Unfortunately the van is in the shop alot, and I may trade it. Biggest problem has been the master brake cylinder. Have had 4 in 36K miles. The dash dials have stopped cold on numerous occasions, and one time some swith broke and the van was stuck in 2nd. Have my own coffee mug at the dealer.
99' SE Sport
We skeptically purchased this van with 60K on it after years of being strictly Mercedes/Honda drivers. I'm shocked at just how good the experience has been. It seems from the other reviews that you can also get bad ones too but ours has been trouble free for 30K+. We are planning to sell it and are looking at another Dodge Grand Caravan. Ours is still rattle free and drives exactly like a new van. I drove two others, an 04/05' this week with 25K and 37K and they drove just like ours. We have looked at Odysseys but have found them to be more pricey and more noisy with rattles. If you find a good one they are hard to beat!
Sport model
Two sets of tires, one set of brakes and one transmission sensor (warranty) have been the only repairs. 115,000 miles later, I am still getting 18.5 mpg in city, 24.5 mpg crossing the country with family and luggage.
After 6 years we are satisfied
We purchased this van new with a tow package since it included the transmission cooler (fearing the infamous failures). So far we have done regular maintenance. About $2500 worth over 6 years and completed 2 recalls. The only out of warranty repairs have been the serpentine belt pulley ($100) and a transmission speed sensor at 40K miles($150). Much better then our Volvo 850 wagon which needed a timing belt and water pump new window switches, and radio at 17K miles. This car has travelled from California to Maryland and from Florida to Canada on our vacations without any problems. I hope it lasts another 5 years.
Never buy a dodge
Horrible....horrible ....horrible. Bought the van used in 2002. Has 3.3ltr, engine was just replaced when I bought it, had to replace it a year later at $1500.00. That was the "deal" I got. Now, engine gone again!! Contacted Dodge and they said basically...too bad too sad. Will NEVER buy from the company again.
