A top contender in many categories = versatility.
I have had a 2001 V8 Durango, 2006 Pacifica, 2008 Honda CRV, and a 2013 Toyota Highlander. The 2020 Durango is my favorite. I disagree with Edmunds that the V6 lacks adequate performance. It is more than adequate. I would not want the V8 unless I had serious towing needs. The Durango is not too small, not too big - it's just the right size. There are few that can haul more people and/or more gear. To my surprise, it gets the same or slightly better gas mileage than all I have had but the CRV. I hate the automatic engine shutdown / restart, but I love that it can be turned off and stays off until you decide to turn it back on. It will get some respect on city streets, and there are even urban Youtube Durango enthusiasts. It has more reasonable off-road and deep snow ground clearance than many. It will get you to the opera or out on the tractor path through the field or on the fire road in the mountains. It will serve daily commuters, soccer moms, or cowboys. It may not be the best at any one thing, but it is a serious contender in virtually every category.

Get the Durango!
We purchased this vehicle used but new to us. So far we love everything about it. This vehicle compared to me previous SUV is a no brained to pick.
Simple, Reliable, Suprisingly good Gas mileage
We bought the base model Durango and love it. I am 6 ft tall and can fit in the 3rd row. It has been so reliable with zero issues. Occasionally we get the warning light that the stop/start isn't working which is fine because we turn it off every time anyways. We put 30000 since we bought it in March 2020. Great car, no complaints.
