I purchased my 05 Durango SLT new in early 06. It has the 5.7L hemi (drop down menu does not show this option). It now has 102,000 miles and still runs great. Though the miles are low we have put the Dodge through its paces. We have driven it to both coasts multiple times (we live in Kansas), pulled heavy trailers, driven through some rough weather (after all this is Kansas!). You never forget you are driving a truck but the ride is smooth, the handling competent, the seats comfortable on long trips and cabin is usually quiet. The quietness is compromised if driving in a stout cross wind as a whistle develops around the passenger door. The SUV originally had a gas overflow problem. When filling up, with gas, the pump would turn off and gas would flow upward out of the tank. This was repaired under a factory service bulletin but you will see many of these vehicles with paint issues around the fuel door. We live in the country and rely on our Durango to get us to town and back in inclement weather including some deep snow and ice. It has never let us down and the full time AWD keeps the truck firmly planted to the roads. The locking center differential will get you through most slick situations. Most of our driving is country highway, interstate and a little small town driving. Gas mileage varies for 19 to 21. That's not bad for a vehicle this big and capable. We have the 3rd row but rarely use it as it is just too small. Otherwise, there is plenty of room for 4 though rear seat foot room is a bit skimpy. I'm not ready to trade as there are too many miles left on my Durango and I enjoy driving it. When it is time I'll definitely consider another one. Update 11/26/2020 - We still have our Durango and it is still doing great for us. We recently purchased a 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited which has replaced the Durango as our go to long trip vehicle but the Dodge still has a place in our fleet. I recently used it to tow a trailer from Omaha to Wichita. Probably had 6000 pounds behind the hitch. The Durango never missed a beat and easily maintained highway speeds on the Kansas Turnpike (75 MPH). In summary I'd still drive the Durango anywhere on a moments notice and in bad weather it is still my go to vehicle. UPDATE:12/23/21 - We now have 116,000 miles on our Durango and it continues to serve well. I recently changed the spark plugs which can be a chore as there are 16 spark plugs (2 per cylinder) and some are hard to reach. The new plugs resulted in a noticeable increase in pep. I am planning to take the Dodge on a trip to Georgia later this month and have no concerns in doing so. I occasionally think about trading for something newer but can't really see a good reason to do so. The Durango is still reliable and comfortable. And if the weather turns bad it is comforting to be in vehicle this solidly built.

this is a 5.7 HEMI AWD 2005 Durango... had it serviced and did the recalls at a dodge dealer... used Full Synthetic Oil...(best for this vehicle).. the 5.7 HEMI is a great engine and has power when you need it and drives great. On the highway headed north.. cruse control at 78MPH, got 20.1-21.7 miles per gallon. Pretty good for a large V-8... did all the maintenance... has new brakes and rotors all 4 wheels, new MS tires... comfort, dependability always there... nice vehicle... i liked it a lot needed a truck..... wish i could have kept it....

210,000 miles in 5 years

I bought an '05 Dodge Durango ST with 45k on it in June 07 for ~$19k. In that time I've put on over 165,000 miles. I have had to replace all 4 tires twice, battery, headlights, alternator, gas tank (factory recall covered by Dodge), spark plugs, & air compressor. What finally did me in was losing the transmission about 2 weeks ago. Fixing it would run about $1500 and even then its no guarantee how much more the car has in it. The gas mileage is miserable but this car held on through the rough & tumble college years where it was routinely loaded down with people & stuff for long haul drives (1k+ miles). Nothing fancy but sturdy. I am sad to see it go and not sure what I'll replace it with.

My Durango has been a trooper. we originally drove this vehicle from FL to IL with no issues. This is a vehicle that can handle miles and will last. But one issue I have found is my gas inlet does not close. This causes gas to over flow when I fuel the vehicle. Now this was a recall for this vehicle. I have also experienced my car shifting out of park (which caused me to park into a cop) but Chrysler refuses to uphold to repair being my vin is not highly reported. So be aware of the vehicle and its faults.

I love this truck. It has been dependable since I purchased it in 2007. It was a 2005 with 23K. I have driven this from WI - TN x2 and WI- FL x2. No issues other then it spits fuel back out when you fill it. Minor repair issues. I even hit a deer did minimal damage. I feel very safe in this truck.
