2002 CHEV 2500HD 4wd
Have had continued problems with the drive train, from transmission noise to multiple problems with the front and rear differentials noise and leaking. Vehicle seems reliable in most cases, but leaves that nagging feeling that once the warranty is off I'm going to be looking at repairs on a low milage vehicle (only averages 500 per month). Much fun to drive, but the overall fuel mileage is a w f u l, but that goes with the territory of the 6L engine and the rear end selection.
Awesome Truck!
I purchased my 2002 Chevrolet 2500HD 4x4 Ext cab truck in 2003. Other than the fuel economy of this truck, I have no compliants. I take care of it but I also use it as a truck. I am a hunter and commonly go off-road on some horrible roads. I have never been stuck and the truck is all stock. I plan on keeping this truck for a long long time and hopefully passing it on to one of my sons as a first truck. Chevrolet really put time, heart, and guts into building this machine!

Love My Allison Tranny!
For every day driving in southern California, also to haul horses, fuel economy has been good, the diesel engine surprisingly quiet. The Allison tranny holds speed going down hill. After hauling horses with the Allison tranny, through incredibly smooth decelerations, I don't think I'll go back to brand X. All in all a Great truck, Very sporty ride compared to its predecessor.
Silverado 2500 H.D. Diesel 5sp auto-4x4
My Wife & I really like our new Silverado. The 6.6 liter Duramax Diesel with the Allison 5 speed automatic transmission is the perfect combination towing our 28 ft. trailer. Our trailer is concidered a liteweight at around 5,500 lbs. Our truck is capable of towing almost 12,000 . We have already towed our trailer a couple times and experienced no sway from Semi-trucks passing us up! That was a major problem we had with our smaller Astro minivan. As far as gas mileage goes- we got around 16 mpg towing (mostly highway driving). I tend to average about 55 mph on the highway. Driving solo- we get around 20 mpg combination highway & city driving.
Beware GM Gas Engines!
At 10k miles my truck started knocking. Now at 25k it knocks all the time. Complained to dealer and GM, they extended engine warranty to 5 years/100k miles. What good is a truck that cost $30k that I have to get rid of in 5 years if it doesn't blow before hand? This is from a 40 year GM loyalist and shareholder. Search "piston slap" on the internet for all the sorry details.
Bowtie fantasy
This truck has the power and the payload to do anything that I want to do. I have the 8.1L gas engine with the 5 speed Allison and as long as you keep your foot off the pedal, you can get about 15 mpg in the city. It also looks very good.
Virtyually trouble free
Fuel economy is abysmal, 11mpg around town and 15 on the highway. Ride is very good for a 3/4 ton truck and the spit cloth front seats are comfortable, as are the rear. I can fit 3 adults or a couple car seats and/or boosters with no problem, I just wish the middle seat had a headrest. Everything is laid out logically and the materials are fine with the exception of the hard plastic dash, but no rattles as of 181K miles and my interior is still in near new condition. 6.0 liter tows very well with more grunt than I expected. It does burn 1-2 quarts of oil between oil changes (5000 mile intervals) depending on the type of driving. It also developed an exhaust manifold leak around 100k but it goes away after the engine has warmed up, about 5 minutes or a few miles. The 4 speed automatic has been rock solid but it could use two more gears. Reliability has been outstanding. One sensor covered under warranty and routine maintenance, that's it. Having previously owned Ford trucks I'll have to say I've been very impressed. I'd say I'd buy another one but I figure I have at least another 100K miles to go before I will need to.

Awesome Truck
We have had this truck for 18 years. Bought it brand new. We love it. This truck is more comfortable and drives well compared the brand new 2017 tercel we got 3 years ago. We haul boats and very heavy trailers with no problems. We have driven it cross country many many times. Only in the past year have we had any problems...but we're easy but sometimes a little expensive to fix. After 15 years what can you expect? We have been looking to find another truck like this but so far nothing we found do we like as much as our truck. We plan to keep it even when we do get a new vehicle. We think after 13 years and over 250k miles we will use this truck as our stay in state vehicle just to be safe. If we could we would give it 10 stars.
Best Truck I'll never sell
I have 207,000 miles on my 2002 6.0 2500HD 4x4. It's been as reliable as the sun and still looks good. I've replaced an alternator, driver side power window regulator, and the O² sensors and that's it. Regular service is all it's ever had since 2006 when I got it. Nowadays it needs a paint job after an ill advised trip to a fishing hole but it truly deserves it. Wind noise is a bit of an issue but other than that I have zero complaints.

Maybe Not so Heavy Duty
I have always been a Chevy man that is until I purchased a new HD. I is very comfortable, fun to drive, but i have a few problems to complain about. namely weak steering and poor quality sheet metal.
All around best medium duty hauler.
The duramax diesel is a performer. Fuel economy is 50% better than previous 2000, 6 liter silverado, both solo and towing 12,000 pounds of camper. Plenty of power, quiet, allison is great, a no brainer on shifting, onstar is handy when traveling, just an all around good truck, it's about time chevy.
Great Truck
The silverado is one tough truck. It is full of power. I love it!
Great truck
Couldn't ask for much more. Compared to F-250's much quieter, more power, more room inside. This is a tough truck.
Great pickup!
I bought this truck because I liked the way it looked over the half-ton. I am completely satisfied by it so far. The performance is unbelieveable a true strong running truck. My truck has the 6.0L in it more than enough power. But I have added dual exhaust and plan on an intake system in the near future. Still it has more power than other pickups when it was stock. I have had no mechanical problems yet. Just a little rattle under the dash. I highly recomend this truck.
Chevy Deisel
I added a $300 chip and get 20mpg on the road and 16mpg around town. it's amazing for a truck that large to have as much power, confort and gas economy. I will put it up next to a Ford or Dodge any day.
Great Truck
I have had my truck 7 months and I love it. So much power and comfort. It's really great. In the summer I pull a lot and one time I had just over 21,000lbs behind the truck and she pulled it. Was not going far fast but she did it
Duramax Desiel
Love all of the power that the duramax has and the comfort of Leather
2500 HD Truck of the year
Mileage with the 6.0 liter gets 11 city and 14 highway. It is an okay truck but you can really see where GM cut corners. Haven't had any major problems.
Great Truck
This is truly a go anywhere, do anything pickup. 4WD with locking differential and capabale of towing 15,600 lbs. A fantastic truck. I pull a 5th wheel RV with this truck all the time with no problems.

Top-o-the-Line
Man oh man what a truck. This pickup has surpassed everythin that I have wanted in a truck. It has the looks, the power, and payload that anyone could ever want. To me there is not another choice.
Great truck
I have a 5 speed manual that is great

WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER!!!
I bought this truck new, 2 miles on it when I test-drove it. BEFORE I bought it, a fluid line exploded all over the engine. That should have been my FIRST indication to drive off and leave it! My husband & dad said it had a "warranty" to go ahead and get it. WRONG! That was ONLY the beginning! The local dealership could not get the problems that I had fixed on this truck like: replaced drive shaft for truck tugging when driven, replaced power- steering pump, noise when backing up, jerks when pulling a horse trailer, severe gaps when applying brakes, headlight dim extremely low for no reason, and the list still goes on!
