  • We reveal how U-Drags came to be and relive some of the best races.
  • If you've ever wondered how this idea got its start and how we do it, now's the time to have your questions answered.
  • We look forward to doing many, many more in 2025.

We've officially burned through 50 different U-Drags races, and to celebrate the milestone, we're taking you behind the scenes. If you've ever wondered how we set it up, what goes into making these races happen, or just why we wanted to do it in the first place, you'll wonder no more. Edmunds Editor-in-Chief Alistair Weaver; our executive director of video, Brendan Thomas; and our director of vehicle testing, Jonathan Elfalan, come together here to detail all of the work and effort that goes into U-Drags and how it's evolved since our first race in February 2022.

The way we do these races has needed to evolve because of the addition of EVs, and the format you see today has been shaped by a number of considerations like the kinds of cars we race, driver safety, and the need for so much space. So, we'll go back to the very beginning discussing how the idea even came to manifest itself and talk about why the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 we owned was the reason for all of this in the first place.

We don't want to spill the juicy details here, so you'll just have to kick back, crack open a cold beverage, and listen in to learn just how our secret sauce is made.
